wc: 800 (i think)
put some drunk conrad in to help with the storyline!! not majority edited just wanted to get this out
Tumblr media
It was supposed to be a boy's night. To drink and talk about sports or just hang out in general. But here conrad was, looking at your pictures on his phone showing the guys around him. Even if they were at a party where there were over 100 people, you were still the first thing on his mind.
“she’s just so pretty guys,” he told steven and jeremiah who were sipping on beers
“oh we know, for how much you talk about her.” jere muttered over his drink
“man, as much as i love how you’re in love with my sister, but please spare all details.” steven rolled his eyes
“she’s just so sweet, she’s helped me with so much. like that one time she snuck me into your house because i missed her and my roommate was having sex,” he admitted
“oh god! you snuck into our house. if laurel ever hears this you’re dead meat.” steven leaned forward
“relax steve, i’ll have you know your mom likes me too much.” conrad took a sip of his beer when he should have stopped drinking for a while now “i miss her.”
“he’s so whipped.” jere laughed watching his brother be lovesick for you
“do you think she will answer if i call her?” his eyes lit up
“she’s probably sleeping.” steven looked over his shoulder to the crowd of people spotting taylor dancing with some of the volleyball girls
“just make your move already.” jeremiah pointed out
“you know belly would absolutely murder me if i touched her best friend.” steven sighed and looked away
“hey! look at me man.” conrad put a hand on his shoulder “you haven’t murdered me yet.” he smiled
“that’s because i’m building up to it.” conrad shook his head
“i’m gonna call her, i miss her.”
“dude-“ it was too late he already clicked your contact.
Meanwhile, you were on your bed watching netflix and having a self-care night. With conrad with the guys, you felt like he needed to get out of the apartment they all shared because all they did was play video games and sleep. Your phone rang on the comforter causing you to jump not expecting any calls. You turned the phone seeing conrad’s name on the screen.
“hey.” you paused your show leaning back on the pillows
“hi baby.” he slurred. this wasn’t the first time occurrence he’s called you drunk, you soon found out he was clingy and wanted your attention when drunk
“hey you, how’s the boy's night?” he sighed on the other side of the phone
“it’s good, it’s good. i wanted to call and say i miss you, like a lot.”
“you just saw me yesterday dummy.” you laughed into the phone
“i just really love you.” your heart fluttered as he said the words, you don’t usually say it because it meant a lot to the both of you with what happened to your parents
“can you do me a favor baby?” he hummed on the other side “can i talk to my brother really quick?”
“yeah! here, steven she wants to talk to you.” you heard him hand the phone over
“hey sis.”
“hey can i come get him? i think he’s had enough and i know he’s gonna want me to come get him soon enough.”
“oh yeah please,”
“thank you for taking him out tonight, i know he’s stressed with everything with adam and everything.”
“no yeah i understand, see you soon.” the phone was pulled away from him and back in the hands of your boyfriend
“hey lover.” he chuckled “i’m gonna a come get you okay?”
“yeah, thats sounds good.” you knew after a while he would start overthinking and then the stress would come back
“just stay with the guys and no more drinking, okay?”
“okay, see you soon baby.” you both hung up and you got out of bed
The drive over to the house was over 20 minutes. But you didn’t mind you wanted to see conrad. There has been a lot of stuff going on recently with his dad. you knew their relationship wasn’t the greatest and it really got to him sometimes.
You parked the car in search of your boyfriend. Steven texted you saying they were in the backyard in some chairs, and you saw the back of your boyfriend's head as he talked to the boys in front of him. You wrapped your arms over his shoulder and leaned your head down on his shoulder.
“i have a girlfriend!” his head snapped and he relaxed seeing it was you “oh. sorry.”
“that’s okay, you ready to go?” he nodded “you boys have a ride back?” you looked towards jere and steven
“yeah, taylor said she would take us.” you smiled at steven “when are you gonna ask her out?” conrad moved his arms to rub against yours that were draped over him
“chill, i just don’t wanna upset belly.”
“for fucks sake i’m dating your best friend and you didn’t beat me up.”
“told you.” conrad muttered
“this is different.” he sighed rubbing his face
“it’s not really.” conrad moved to lay his head on your arm giving you the signal it was time to go “just do something at least, con and i are gonna head out.” you pulled your hands away and the man stood from his seat “ready.” he nodded taking your hand in his “be safe tonight, call me if you need anything.”
As you drove home, conrad kept a hand on your thigh but he didn’t say anything and you knew the quietness and depression were slowly coming back from the side effects of his drinking. The whole ride was quiet up until you made it into your room closing the door facing him.
“come here con.” he walked towards you slowly and dipped his head into to crook of your neck and wrapped his arms around you “let’s sleep okay?” he nodded but didn’t let go “con?”
“hm?”
“let’s lay down handsome.” he stepped away from you and you helped him take off his shirt as he slipped out of his jeans left in his boxers and slid into bed “ill be right back, going to get you water.”
“okay.” he softly spoke into the pillow he was laying on
Walking downstairs your mom was also grabbing a midnight snack. She knew he would come over and she also knew he was going through a lot in your 2 years together.
“how is he?” she leaned against the counter as you opened the fridge to grab a water bottle
“it’s a lot, he won’t really talk to me about some of it and i understand.”
“you’re a great girlfriend for him. susannah always loved the thought of you two together.” she grabbed your hand and squeezed it “speaking of conrad.” she nodded behind you, turning around you saw your boyfriend standing at the end of the stairs
“hey, what’s wrong?” you walked towards him
“you left me for a long time.” he rubbed his eyes and you smiled
“come on you big baby, good night mom.”
“night laurel.” conrad muttered
“night kids.” you could hear the humor in her voice
Back up in your room you were both now in bed with the light of the tv shining on the both of you. Conrad’s eyes drifted but he just stared at you.
“can i cuddle you?” he asked softly
“you don’t need to ask.” he moved closer to you hugging you to him, his head on your shoulder and you moved your hand to run though his hair “con?”
“yeah?” you moved to look at him and leaned down to kiss him for the first time that night
“i love you.” he smiled genuinely the first time since you saw him
“i love you.” he closed his eyes and kissed your neck
Soon enough his soft snoring filled the room as you continued to watch your show until you followed him into the dream state.

To be honest, no one expected Conrad to have a girlfriend like you. Everyone said that you were far from his type, you weren't dumb - you were just slow and doesn't know certain types of words or slangs. For Conrad, you were one of the most smartest person that he knew, well basically because he got to know you. You don't really show it but you have so much potential especially when it comes to fashion and make-up! a plus is that you are really good with art.
About his type, they always thought that it would be Belly and Conrad that would end up together, knowing that Belly is literally in love with him ever since they were kids, before you happened, they had a special bond - a bond that to the point where they were just inseparable, Belly thought that it was something so beautiful, It was her dream to be with Conrad.
Not until she knew that he had a girlfriend, and that he just treats him like a sister and nothing else.

Conrad's Pov
"Connie, you should bring that girlfriend of yours here sometimes!" Mom exclaimed, happily. Ever since I brought Y/N here, she was all mom asked from me, even her and Jeremiah instantly clicked. You can say that amongst the girls that I have been with, Y/N is surely my mom's favorite.
I smiled proudly, "I'll try, Mom. She's busy and I don't want to interfere with her personal life, but I'll ask. I'm sure she'll say yes especially if it's your request" I rubbed my mom's shoulder, she nodded.
She stood up and walked towards the kitchen, "Well tell me when she's coming so I can invite the Conklin's too, I'm sure her and Belly will get along really well." I just hummed and nodded. I pulled out my phone and sent a text to Y/N asking if she can come here for dinner, she immediately responded saying yes. I smiled.
I saw my mom's figure come into the living room, I looked up - smiling at her, she tilted her head looking at me confused, "Well, it looks like you favorite girl is coming" I said giddily. My mom squealed, "Omg! I am so excited, I will cook her her favorite!" she said before going to the kitchen, to list down foods that she know's Y/N will like.
───────────────────────────
FEW DAYS LATER
Y/N's Pov
"Mom! We're here!" Conrad yelled, his hand rubbing your waist gently. You saw Susannah walked towards us, she went up to me and hugged me "Oh gosh! You're finally here, I missed you" she cooed, pulling away - placing her hands on your face gently. You smiled, looking at her "Oh Susannah, I missed you too! Here I got you your favorite" You said, handing her the dessert that she liked. She gasped, and grabbed it from you gently "Oh you didn't have to!" she said, pouting a little. You shook your head "It's okay! I wanted to" You smiled before looking up to Conrad who was already looking at you - smiling lovingly.
Jeremiah came into the view, walking towards you - pulling you in for a hug. "Hey, you!" he said, smiling. "Hi, Jere" I looked at him, smiling. "Looking good as always" he said, twirling me a little bit. It wasn't anything that was awkward between you and Jeremiah, even Conrad doesn't find it awkward. Ever since Conrad brought you here for the first time, you and Jeremiah just had that sister & brother bond.
You felt Conrad hand on your waist, "Baby, this is the Conklin's. This is Steven, Belly, and Laurel. You already know who they are since I did talk about them to you." Conrad said - smiling, turning you gently to face the Conklin's. You saw Laurel smile at you before walking towards you for a hug, "It is nice to finally meet you" she said, before pulling away. You saw Steven wave while Belly was just there, looking at you up and down, but you just chose to ignore it and just smiled at her.
After a while, you all went to the dining room to start eating. "Here you go, sweets. Eat lots yeah?" Conrad said, grabbing food for you - placing it on your plate, you heard Belly scoff "What? you got no hands? can't get your own food?" she mocked you, you looked at her confused. Steven nudged her with his elbow "Belly, stop it" he said, you looked around, all of them were looking at her, Susannah had a stern look on her face. Belly rolled her eyes, groaning "Calm down you guys, it was a joke!" she said, looking at you smiling, Susannah sighed "That wasn't a good joke, Belly" she said, reaching for you gently. Belly looked at her and said sorry. You just smiled back nodding, going back to eating your food.
You felt Conrad's hand on your thigh, you placed your hand on top of his - you felt his hands lock in with yours. You looked up and saw him give you a reassuring smile, you nodded and smile, telling him that you were okay. "So Y/N.. what is your major?" Laurel asked, you furrowed your brows, not familiar with the word until Conrad whispered to you "It’s what you do in school, baby" he said smiling, Belly chuckled - not believing what she just saw "Oh! Uhm I major in fashion design!" you exclaimed happily, smiling at Laurel. She nodded before smiling at you "Well It is obvious, just look at what you are wearing." Belly said, looking at you up and down, "Isabella." Laurel warned her, grabbing her arm gently
you smiled - thinking that it was a compliment. "Thank you!" you said, looking at Belly - she just looked at you like you were crazy which made you shrug you shoulders - looking at Conrad. He was looking at them, his brows furrowed. You felt his hand tighten around your thigh, you placed your hand above his - rubbing it gently, He looked at you - his gaze softened, he smiled.
After you guys were done with dinner, Conrad decided to walk you around the house. You guys were now at the back of the house, at the pool with your feet's dipped in it. Conrad reached for your hand, caressing it gently "Sorry for earlier, darling. I'm sorry for not defending you or saying anything to Belly" he said, before tucking a strand of your hair behind your ear. You turned to him, brow furrowed, shaking your head "Why are you sorry? nothing happened earlier, Connie. I am okay, whatever they said didn't hurt me okay? I'll try my best to get along with Belly." you said, smiling still unaware of Belly's action.
Conrad eyes softened "Oh my love, you are too kind. Sometimes it scares because then people will try to get advantage of you" he paused, caressing your face "but it's okay, i'll be here yeah? I'll defend you and I will stay right by your side, always so don't worry about getting along with her. You don't have to do that, baby. Just think about mom and everyone else, they absolutely love you." he said, before pulling you in for a kiss.
Conrad is just deeply in love with you, he doesn't care what other people think as long as you are there beside him. He was just high over heels, he absolutely adores you and treasure you, he wouldn't ask for more. He just felt like the luckiest guy to have someone like you.
───────────────────────────
I JUST LOVED WRITING THIS! it is honestly one of the cutest and wholesome oneshot i've ever written. Conrad is just so inlove with reader and I AM UP FOR IT, I want a love like this UGH. Thank you, anon for requesting this <3

The Roommate~Conrad Fisher
Tumblr media
WARRING~ Cussing, P-In-V Sex, Unprotected Sex, Cheating
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
I’ve been seeing this very cute guy recently. He had a dorm room here like mine. However, his dorm room was in a different building, so I never went there. He also had a roommate, which is something I don't have.

We just had a very nice date, and we were going to go back to his dorm since we were always going to mine.

"My roommate might be at home, so just ignore him," I laughed when we approached the door.

"Trusky, it's okay." He looked in his pocket for his keys.

“Shit.” He started knocking on the door. "Con, I left my keys.” He yelled at the door, and I laughed at him.

The door opened to reveal the sexiest man I've ever seen. His eyes, his facial features, his smile, his lips. He laughed at Trusky.

"Trusky, if you're going to bring a girl home, you should really remember your keys." I laughed, making him turn to me. "You must be Y/n."
"Yes, I am." I smiled. He welcomed us inside and went back to his bedroom.

"My room is here." Trusky pointed at his room. I smiled and followed him.

I was supposed to stay the night with Trusky, but I couldn't get his roommate out of my head. So I decided to go home since Trusky had fallen asleep a while ago. I left his room only to be greeted by a tall, dark figure next to the door.

"Where are you going?" It was his roommate.

"Back to my dorm." I shrugged, and he laughed.

"So you're going to walk alone at midnight? Nope, I'm walking you back," he grabbed his keys and went to the door.

"Um, I didn’t catch your name." I ran out the door after him.

"I didn't throw it," he said, smiling and leaving the building, leaving me running after him again.

"Well, if I walk with you back to my dorm, don’t you think I should know your name?” I smiled.

"It's Conrad. Conrad Fisher.” He laughed

We just talked and got to know each other on our walk back to my dorm. I tried paying attention to what he was saying, but all I could think about was kissing him and feeling his arms wrap around my body.

I know I can't because I'm dating his roommate, but Trusky and I aren’t even that serious. There wouldn’t be anything wrong with kissing him. Right?

Arriving at my dorm is what pulled me out of my thoughts. "This is me." I smiled at Conrad, but he didn’t stop. He kept walking inside.

"You're not in your room yet, are you? So my job isn't over." I smiled, following him.

When we arrived at my room, I turned around to face him, only to see his face inches away from mine.

"Um, this is me," I stuttered, suddenly feeling his hands on my hips pulling our bodies closer together.

"Conrad, we can't." I put my hand on his chest, trying to push him away. As much as I wanted to, I couldn't do that to Trusky.

"Oh, but we can, and you know you want to." He leaned in, brushing a piece of hair behind my ear and whispering in it.

"You want to, don't you?" I nodded my head a little, looking away from him. He turned my head, so I looked him in the eye.

"So, what's stopping us, princess?"

The next thing I knew, my lips were slamming against his. I knew it was bad, but I had never felt like this before. Every part of my body was on fire, wanting more.

I dug into my purse, looking for my keys. Finding them, I turned around to open the door. Conrad placed his lips on my neck, biting and sucking, making me rush to unlock my door.

Once the door opened, Conrad pushed me in, slamming the door closed and shoving me against the door, kissing me.

"Jump,” he mumbled against my lips, trailing his hand down my body and taping the back of my thighs. I wrapped my legs around his waist as our lips moved in sync.

He moved us to bed, hovering over me. "Off,” I mumbled, trailing my hands under his shirt. Taking his shirt off, I throw it somewhere in the room, flipping us around and straddling him.

"God, you are so hot.” I mumbled, running my hands up and down his chest.

"I'm going to have to move. Trusky isn't going to be happy, but this is so worth it.” He laughed, raising my top over my head and leaving me with my bra and shorts on.

"There's always room in my bed." I winked. A smirk grew on his face as he flipped us around, reaching around my back to unclip my bra. I arched my back for easy access. He took off my bra and threw it somewhere on the floor as he stared at me in amazement.

"You're beautiful.” He mumbled before smashing his lips back onto mine, our teeth and lips clashing as his tongue swiped across my bottom lip, asking for entrance.

Denying him access, he harshly grinds down into my core, making me let out a loud moan, which he takes advantage of by shoving his tongue into my mouth, exploring and sucking on my tongue.

His hand trails down my body, giving a soft squeeze to my boob before moving down to the edge of my cotton shorts. I sigh in pleasure as he slips his hand into my lacy thong, his fingers playing with the bundle of nerves that make me lift my hips up for more contact.

"Please." I beg him, arching my back as his lips kiss down my throat.

"Please, what?" he mumbles against my skin, dragging his fingers up and down my slick, teasing me.

“Please, please touch me.” I beg, lifting my hips up, trying to gain something, anything.

I moan out as two of his thick fingers enter me, slowly but harshly thrusting into my center. "Fuck, you're so wet," he groans. He continues to finger me for a few moments to prepare me.

"You ready, baby?" He asks me, and I nod. Conrad kisses my lips again before pulling down my shorts and his own. His thick cock slapped his abdomen when released from the constrained boxers they were in.

I looked at it, wondering how it would fit. I wrapped my little hands around it and started pumping it. The top leaking with precum, leaving me drooling and soaked.

“Don’t worry, it'll fit." He reassures me. Seeing the look in my eyes. Watching intently as he lines himself up before sinking down into me, bottoming out. Every vein and inch of his dick stretched me out in the best way possible.

Throwing my head back at the feel of him inside of me. He thrusts deeply into me as I moan, loudly gripping the sheets and digging my nails into his back, feeling him nearly hitting my gut.

"fuck!" I cry out as he buries his face into my neck, fastening his pace. He's pounding harder into me. His hand grabs the back of my right thigh, pushing it to my chest to give himself a better angle to hit my sweet spot.

I bite into his shoulder, making him groan lowly as I feel his dick twitch inside of me. My hands are in a frenzy, clawing his back, pulling at his hair, or anything else to get him closer to me.

"You like that, baby," he moans as he continues to thrust his dick at my sweet spot, making the knot in my stomach tighten.

"Yes, holy fuck, you feel so good!" I nod quickly, nearly on the verge of sobbing, as tears well up in my eyes from how good he feels.

I turned my head to the side, moaning into the pillow, trying not to wake everyone in the building. He fastened his pace when he felt my walls tighten. He knew that I was getting close.

"Baby, I want to hear you. Let everyone know how good I'm making you feel." He turned my head back towards him as he thrust into my G-spot, making me scream with pleasure.

“Found it.” Conrad laughed over me, pounding and slamming harder into me as I dragged my nails down his back. "Are you close?" He asks.

"I can feel your walls squeezing my cock."

I moan out in response, unable to form words with the state of bliss I am in. I cling to his shoulders as my legs start to shake.

"Fuck, I'm going to come soon," Conrad groans, throwing his head back in pleasure. "Where do you want it?"

"I'm," I try to say, but my eyes keep rolling backwards. "I'm on the pill."

He looks down at me with lust in his eyes and asks, "Are you sure?"

"Fuck, Conrad! Yes, yes." I moaned

Picking up the pace of his thrusts, he raised one of my legs over his shoulder, making it easier for him to hit my G-spot. His hand reaches down to start rubbing figure eights on my clit to help me get closer.

"Come on, baby, cum on this dick, baby, I know you can do it. I'm right behind you.” He groaned.

"Fuck, Conrad, I'm coming!" I scream out.

"That's it, baby.” He groaned, leaving kisses all over my face as my toes curled and my thighs shook. My back arches to his chest as I feel my orgasm crashing down on me all at once.

Shortly after, he also let go of his load, falling down next to me and pulling me towards his chest.

We both crawl under my blanket, his arm instinctively wrapping around my waist to pull me closer. "So, what are you going to do about Trusky?" He asked.

"Well, I have my eye on someone else." I smiled, looking at him.

"Well, would it be okay for this guy to stay with you so that Trusky doesn't kill him?" He mumbles into my hair, kissing my bare shoulder.

"Of course he can."

Tumblr media
You weren’t sure of the moment you’d lost him. But you knew the exact moment when you realised that you had. He’d come back from surfing, and it had started raining outside in Cousins - a rare summer shower even on the hottest day. Conrad had showered and came downstairs to where you were curled up on the couch, eyes closed. The Conrad that you knew would have grabbed the nearest blanket and settled it over your shoulders, and taken up the spot closest to you so that, when you awoke, you could snuggle into him and he’d share in your comfort. But this Conrad had taken a seat on the opposite couch, his eyes focused on a distant spot somewhere in the lounge. You’d woken up when it got oddly cold and realised that he’d left the garden doors open, letting in sprays of rain and the coldest wind.
“Con?” You’d spoken, voice full of sleep, “Everything okay?”
He looked at you with an off, empty look in his eyes - like he was looking at a stranger. You knew then, and you still couldn’t figure out why.
That wasn’t your Conrad. That wasn’t the Conrad that loved you.
———
That exact moment had been four months ago, only a week before things ended between the two of you. You’d cried more than your heart could cope with, and you’d had enough sleepless nights to make it feel like you wouldn’t sleep again. You’d stopped eating and stopped enjoying the smallest things in your life. Until, one day, you just felt… better. There was no specific cause or cure, just that you were yourself once again. The self that you’d been before Conrad. Healed.
Your parents had owned a house in Cousins for the past couple of years and that’s how you’d first met the Fisher family. This weekend would be the first time you were returning to Cousins since you and Conrad had finished, and it was agitating a pain in your chest that you tried your best to ignore.
“(Y/n)?” It’s your Mom’s voice that snaps you back to reality, “Do you mind taking a trip to the store?”
You look at her and blink a second time, feeling your mind return to the setting of the beach house, “Yeah, yeah, of course I will.”
“Thanks honey,” She smiles, “There’s a list on the kitchen island.”
You nod and she steps back out of your bedroom, letting you return to welcome solitude.
There was something about being back here - this house, this town - everything reminded you of him.
———
The shop is relatively empty when you get there and you make your way around the aisles picking up the items from your Moms list. It was thanksgiving next week so these were just the bits to keep you fed between now and then. She definitely wouldn’t trust you with the real thanksgiving shop.
As you round onto the next aisle, your cart bumps into someone coming the other way.
“Oh shit my-“ A familiar voice speaks quickly and you glance up to see Stephen at the end of your cart.
“Stephen!” You grin, “Hi!”
He grins just as widely and stretches out his arms, “Holy shit (y/n) it’s good to see you.”
His arms wrap you in a bear hug and he breathes deeply as your chin perches atop his shoulder, stood on your tiptoes to do so.
“What are you doing here in Cousins?” You ask him, “I thought you guys were only here for summer.”
“Yeah well my Mom and Suzanne decided to start doing thanksgiving too because they think we should see each other more often,” He shrugs his shoulders, “I’m not complaining, it’s more fun here than back home.”
“Yeah, yeah, definitely,” You nod, “I didn’t even think to ask you guys if you’d be here. I mean, normally I’d ask Co-“
Both of you stop and he looks at you with that frown between his eyebrows as if watching the discomfort settle between you.
You clear your throat, “How are the boys?”
Stephen smiles that sort of sympathetic smile, “They’re good. I’m sure they’d love to see you, and my sister would too - she’s going to hate that she didn’t come to the store with me.”
You laugh and drag a hand through your hair, the mention of Conrad and the Fishers bringing back that same glimpse of empty pain you’d had for weeks after things had ended. You avert your eyes from him towards the large windows in the store and notice that the heavens have opened, rain pouring onto the concrete.
“Shit, I knew I should’ve brought the car,” Stephen winces, “I better call Jere-“
“No, no, don’t be silly,” You shake your head, “I’ll drive you home, it’s the same way anyway.”
“(y/n) I always knew you were an angel,” Stephen jokes with a bright smile.
He helps you put your things through the checkout and then the two of you clamber into your car, dumping your bags into the back.
You drive the short distance in the direction of both houses, the Fisher’s house only being a street away from your own. The roads are all familiar, a second home within itself. But the sight of their exact house, as you pull into the driveway, settles an uneasy feeling on your chest. You ignore it.
“Thanks (Y/n),” Stephen smiles, “And, hey, don’t be a stranger. We’d all still love to see you, I’m sure they’ll all say the same when I tell them you were here.”
You smile and go to respond when your car door is pulled open.
“(Y/n) (y/l/n)!” It’s Jeremiah, his arm holding your door as he stands in the opening, grinning wildly as his hair gets rapidly soaked by the rain, “What the hell are you doing here?”
“Driving Stephen back to avoid the rain,” You laugh gently, “Which you should be doing too.”
“Please come in, Belly’s going to kill me if you were here and she didn’t get to say hi,” He has those sort of eyes that it’s impossible to say no to, the same golden retriever look that ran through his personality.
You turn your keys in the ignition and pull them out, “Alright, just five minutes.”
Jeremiah reaches out a hand to you and stretched one side of his hoodie out so you can both duck under the material, the three of you hurrying towards the house.
It’s all so beautifully familiar. Stephen grumbling about the rain in his hair and Jeremiah laughing the same way he always did, the warmth of the walls in this house, the sense of home.
The door shuts behind you and you feel it again - that little bit of relief that you really had moved on. This place held good memories - for the year that you’d been dating Conrad he’d been everything and his family came with that. Losing him didn’t mean you lost the sense of family that his own people had always given you.
“Okay, now we can say a proper hello,” Jeremiah laughs, wrapping his arms around you as he lifts you up from the ground, spinning you around before settling you back down.
“It’s good to see you too, Jere,” You return, “I’m sorry, I had no idea you guys were back in Cousins.”
“Yeah, well, it was a last minute decision,” He nods, “Come on, I think Belly’s in the kit-“
Stephen grabs Jeremiah’s arm before he can go any further, “Um, Jere, is Conrad here?”
“Oh shit yeah I didn’t eve-“
“Guys, seriously,” You shake your head at them, “Come on, what happened with me and Con was a long time ago. We’re all grown ups here.”
They look at you with a slight uncertainty but nod anyway, walking through the back of the house.
Your steps pause ever so slightly when you catch sight of him but you don’t let it show, letting your eyes look around the rest of the room before falling back to him.
Conrad stands up almost instantly, his entire being alert.
“(Y/n).”
Your name from his lips turns a knot into your stomach but it dissipates when you focus on it for long enough.
“Hey Con,” You smile, running a hand through your hair.
“What are yo-“
“Oh my god (Y/n)!” Belly squeals and hurries over, engulfing you in a velocity fuelled hug, “What are you doing here?”
You laugh and squeeze her before stepping back, “Just dropping Stephen home.”
“Yeah, it was raining like hell when I was in the store so (Y/n) offered to drive back,” Stephen comments.
“You, uh, you hate driving in the rain,” Conrad clears his throat, eyes on you as if nobody else was there.
You let out a breathy laugh and let your eyes lock onto him, your fingers tightening around the car keys in your hand, “Yeah, a few months ago I did. I guess I just got better.”
He swallows the lump in his throat, his lips parting.
“I should probably get going,” You clear your throat, “My Mom will kill me if I let that ice cream melt.”
“We’ll catch up soon, okay?” Belly squeezes your arm, “I’m so glad you’re here.”
You wave goodbye and step back out, feeling the weight on your chest release just enough that it no longer feels like it’s there. You step back out of the house and, for the first time in a long time, Conrad races through your mind. You turn the music up just a little louder in your car so it’ll somewhat drown out the thought.
———
The following night, there’s a party down at the beach that it’s impossible to say no to when Jeremiah, Belly and Stephen have all been convincing you all day. You change into a pink ditsy floral dress that has a corset style top and a simple pair of white converse - they’d only end up full of sand anyway. It was cold enough that you knew it was a terrible idea to just wear a dress, so you throw over a baggy grey jumper and roll up the sleeves twice so they don’t hang over your hands.
Once they’ve texted to say they’re already there, you leave and take the short walk down to the beach, bag tucked over your shoulder.
“Hey! (Y/n)!” Cameron waves you over to where he’s filling up a red cup with a can of Sprite.
“Hey Cam,” You smile, “How are you doing?”
He nods, “I’m thinking this party is a terrible idea in the middle of November.”
You laugh, “I’m hoping a beer will warm me up a bit,” You take a cup and fill it from the keg beside him.
“How are you doing anyway?” Cam nudges you, “Is it weird being back?”
You take a second of looking at him before you respond, invisibly composing yourself, “No, it’s okay. What happened with me and Conrad was… and obviously I wouldn’t want to… I’m fine. We’re fine.”
He nods, taking it as certain sign that he shouldn’t persist with the topic, “I think Belly and the guys are over that way.”
You follow him over to where Belly, Jere and Stephen are all sat around a big campfire, warming their hands on the floating heat.
“Hey, are you not freezing in that dress?” Stephen looks at you slightly bewildered.
“Yeah, I’m used to never packing clothes to come here because I always have summer clothes in my closet in the house but… that doesn’t exactly work in november,” You wince, running your hands over the skin of your thighs.
“Yeah who thought it was a good idea to have a beach party in the middle of november?” Belly shakes her head, “It’s meant to get freezing tonight.”
Jere shrugs, “Where’s the fun in that attitude Bels?”
The chatter continues but you find your eyes drifting around the beach for a pair of eyes that you’re yet to find. Somewhere in the lost time, you get through a few more beers and the sun continues to set over the Cousins beach until the cold really starts to set in. The beer is warming your system just a little but far from enough.
A shiver runs over you and draws goose pimples to your skin, so you take it as your cue to leave, saying your goodbyes before heading up the beach towards the path that let you back to the houses.
You’re not sure why. But your feet take you in the direction of the street adjacent to your own, one you’d driven up and walked up countless times. One you missed.
In the one house that catches your attention, there’s a light on out the back and you find yourself pushing through the back garden gate into the yard.
“Jere?” It’s Conrad’s voice that speaks out and you turn to find him sat at the edge of the pool, his feet dragging below the surface.
“Um, no, it’s me,” You clear your throat, “Sorry, I’m not really sure why I came this way.”
He keeps his eyes on you, pushing himself up to stand at the poolside, “Do you-“
“Sorry, I should probably go home I-“
“I bet you’re freezing,” He interrupts, gesturing towards the doors into the house, “Do you want to come inside? I can make you a hot drink or something.”
“Um,” You look at the slightly pleasing look in his eyes and realise it’s impossible to say anything other than, “Sure.”
Conrad nods and pulls open the garden door, stepping aside to let you in.
“I think my Mom and Laurel are out at a bar tonight, it’s just me here,” Conrad comments as you follow him through to the kitchen.
You two spent every minute together when you’d been dating - thankful to be living in the same city without the hours long drive between you that you had at home. This kitchen was where he’d first kissed you. You’d been sitting atop the kitchen counter and he’d been making pancakes at the stove. You laughed when he failed at flipping one of them and he’d come over to make you try the first one - telling you it was good luck to try the first pancake of the night. He’d wiped a bit of syrup from the side of your mouth and the next thing you knew he was kissing you. His lips were uncertain at first but they soon-
“(Y/n)?” Conrad’s voice slices through.
You don’t remember ever hopping up onto the countertop but you’re in the exact spot you’d been in on that pancake morning.
“Do you want cocoa or tea?”
“Tea, please,” You swallow the lump in your throat, dropping your bag down to the counter beside you.
He nods and sets the kettle onto the stove, cracking up the heat before turning around to lean back against the counter opposite you, the water waiting to whistle to a boil behind him.
“What are you thinking about?” He asks you, crossing his arms over his chest.
You look at him and study his face for a moment, a face you’d memorised over and over again, and then shake your head, “That I’m fucking freezing.”
He laughs gently, the kind that rumbles the air, “That’ll teach you to not wear a dress in winter.”
“I didn’t have anything else,” You raise your hands in defence, “And this outfit looks cute.”
“It’s the most impractical outfit ever I mean seriously you must be cold as-“
Without you realising, Conrad has stepped forward from the counter and his hand has come to rest on your thigh - enough for you to feel the electricity charging through you.
“Sorry I-“
Before he can retract, you fly a hand down to press over the top of his, relaxing a little at the contact, “It’s okay. Your hands are warm.”
Conrad looks up at you through the hair that falls around his eyes and you bring your other hand up to brush the strands away from his face. He winces at the cold of your fingers when they brush his face and brings his own hand up to wrap around yours on his cheek to warm your skin there.
Both of you are silent, trapped in the most contact you’ve had in months. You hold each other there for just a moment before the kettle whistles behind him and it seems to snap you back to where you need to be.
“Thank god, I’m dying for a tea,” You pull both of your hands away from him and hop down from the counter, grabbing two mugs from the cupboard.
Conrad stays stood where he was, his hands resting on the countertop in front of him as he squeezes his grip against the edge of it.
You go about making two teas and hand one of the mugs over to him, wrapping your own two palms around the heat of the other.
Conrad winces as the liquid touches his lips, blowing gently on the rippling surface of the drink. You’d always loved his lips. The way they spoke, the way they laughed, the way they kissed. The indent of his cupid’s bow and the shadow of stubble that surrounded them when he didn’t shave. You’d always loved him.
“How come you didn’t come to the beach tonight?” You ask him, your hands burning a little under the heat of the mug.
“In this weather? It’s stupid.”
You shake your head, “You prefer the cold anyway.”
He stops for a moment and sets the mug down, “I figured you wouldn’t want me to be there, and I didn’t want to ruin your night.”
You purse your lips together and look away from him, down at an invisible mark on the floor, “You wouldn’t ruin it.”
Conrad doesn’t speak.
“Come on, just because we split up doesn’t mean we have to act like we don’t know each other,” You comment, “We’re always going to run in the same circles.”
He looks up at you again, studying you, “But we didn’t just split up. I broke your heart (y/n).”
You find yourself smiling just a little, “Anyone would think you’re full of yourself Con.”
“Oh, no, I didn’t mean-“
“I know,” You interject, taking a deep breath, “You did break my heart. But time heals, surprisingly. I’m good now, I’m happy.”
You watch his face falter for just a moment. Conrad was right - he had broken your heart. You’d been hurt by him. But things had changed. You couldn’t hate him forever, and you couldn’t hate your life without him forever. But, the truth was, he didn’t feel even close to being over you. And it killed him to think you’d already slipped away. Far enough away that he couldn’t pull you back.
“I’m glad you’re happy” He swigs the drink, “That’s all I ever wanted.”
You’re not sure what makes you say it. But you do without thinking.
“Really?” You raise your brows, “It didn’t feel like that last summer.”
“(Y/n)…”
“I fought for you Conrad. I really did,” You feel your voice tremble a little but regain it, “I remember even after I knew that you were done with me, I was trying so fucking hard to fix it.”
He’s silent, eyes watching you.
“Two nights before you ended it, I remember I stayed up after you thought I’d gone to sleep and I felt you pull away from me. You pulled your arm from underneath me, you took your arm away from around me, you pushed yourself back to the other side of the bed. And I knew you’d wake up and blame it on being cold in the night. But I felt you. I felt you go. And that’s when I gave up. When I knew there was no saving what you didn’t want to fix,” You shake your head, shaking out your hands to fight the way your body seems to tremble against your will.
“I never wanted to lose you (Y/n), I just… I got scared and I-“
“I don’t need you to explain things Conrad. I spent days and nights trying to figure out where the hell I went wrong. And I made my peace with it - if you weren’t going to love me that was fine, it didn’t mean I wasn’t capable of being loved.”
“I did love you, I do love you,” His words are almost pleading and he steps closer to you, still two feet standing between your bodies, “That never changed.”
You look down and smile a little at the thought, words that would have been wrenching at your heart a few months ago. Today, they settle into you and fall into your system like they weren’t ever said to have an impact.
“I shouldn’t have come here tonight Con,” You look up and take a deep breath, “Thank you for the tea, and for letting me in, and for… I don’t know, maybe we can class this as an impromptu therapy session. But I should be going.”
When you turn around, you notice the pounding rain outside, pattering against the glass and into the open cover of the swimming pool. It’s relentless, the kind that you can hardly see through.
“Stay,” Conrad speaks from behind you.
You turn around to look at him, his eyes soft as if there could never be a bad intention behind them.
“You can take my bed, I’ll sleep on the couch.”
Your breath falls deeply from your chest, staring into eyes that had once broken you into pieces as you say, “Okay.”
———
The following morning, you step out of Conrad’s room and into the house. Everyone else is asleep, or at least you suppose they are from the shut bedroom doors and faint snores. You collect up your things and pad quietly along the wooden floors, wincing when one of the boards creaks on the staircase. You slip out of the back of the house, knowing the shortcut that would lead to your own house before your parents woke up to realise you’d never made it home.
It’s a crisp morning but the sun is just starting to warm the air and you squint against the bright light. Just visible at the end of the boardwalk leading towards the water, you can make out the shape of a boy sat in solitude. You’re not sure what draws you to him, maybe the same thing that had drawn you in the first place.
Conrad turns around when he hears your feet against the wooden pier and watches as you sit down in the seat beside him along the wooden bench, both of you looking out at the still water.
“Did you sleep well?” He asks, clearing his throat when the words come out dry.
You nod, “I always said your bed was comfy.”
Conrad nods, folding his arms over his chest, “The same can’t be said for those couches.”
You smile a little and look down at your hands in your lap, “Thank you for letting me stay.”
He shrugs, “It’s the least I could do. My Mom would kill me if I let you walk home alone in the rain.”
You’re both silent.
“I should pro-“
“Can I ask you something?” He cuts you off.
You settle back into your seat and look at him briefly, turning your head back to the water soon after, “Of course.”
“How did you get over it?” Conrad asks so simply as if the question has been playing on his mind a hundred times, “How did you make it look so easy?”
You take a deep breath, “It wasn’t easy, Con. I cried for weeks over you.”
He clenches his jaw, the mention of your hurt making him hate himself a little more, “But what about now?”
“I was home and you were in Boston. It was easier to get over you when we weren’t around each other. I just… I realised I could be fine by myself,” You swallow the lump in your throat, “I just convinced myself that there was nothing I could have done. That in a thousand lives in a thousand universes, you’d have still done the same - because you’d have just fallen out of love with me. And so it was out of my control.”
“You really think I fell out of love with you?” Conrad looks at you with his eyebrows slightly raised, his lips parting as if he’s echoing the hurt into silence.
“Come on Con,” You turn your head to him, “I was there. I watched you slip away.”
“I-“ He takes a deep breath, “I meant what I said yesterday. I was scared. It wasn’t that I fell out of love with you. Hell, I think I fell so in love with you that that’s why I jumped. Because I’d wake up and Id think of you and then I’d want to see you all day, and I’d go to bed thinking of you and every single day I knew you were all I ever wanted.”
You feel the lump form in your throat, the electricity coursing through your hands that just seem to want to reach for him.
“People would mention your name and I’d be listening for the rest of their sentence. I couldn’t see colours without thinking of you, I couldn’t hear songs without reminding myself of you, I couldn’t do anything without being consumed by you,” He gasps as if all air has left his lungs and his hand lifts to press against his chest, “You became me, my whole life. And I was so fucking terrified of it. I just… it’s stupid, I know it is. But I loved you too much to ever think I’d be enough for you, like I was waiting for the moment Id hurt you.”
“And you don’t think ending it was what hurt me?” You point out.
He laughs a little and you see the tension release a tiny bit, “Yeah, yeah, I guess I should’ve thought of that.”
“You know the worst thing you can do when you love someone that much is to push them away? To make them feel like they’re not loved, not wanted, not worth it,” You explain, “You might’ve felt all of those things Conrad but did you ever try to tell me that? To show me that?”
He closes his eyes and swallows the lump in his throat, “I want to. Now, I want to.”
You shift yourself on the wooden bench and draw your legs up to your chest, wrapping your arms around them, “Okay.”
“Wh- what?” Conrad blinks, “I don-“
“We’re not getting back together, Con. I’m not the same girl that I was when we first got together, and you’re clearly not the same guy. But I think we need to get to need to get to know these versions of ourselves - and if those two love each other, then they’ll make it work,” You nod, more certain of yourself than ever before, “I’m (Y/n).”
Conrad looks down at your outstretched hand and smiles to himself, clasping it to shake his hand with yours, “I’m Conrad.”
He keeps his hand around yours and his thumb brushes your skin. When his grip releases, you watch his hand flex slightly away from the loss of touch.
You look into his eyes, the ones that pierced into your soul so often. And you feel a little piece of yourself melt under his gaze, a little piece of your heart swell softly.
“Well, (Y/n), do you like pancakes?”
“I do.”
He outstretches a hand once again and this time you lace your fingers with him, a course of adoration flooding through you.
You could do this.
You had healed.
You could be you, and he could be him. And the two could cross once more.

Conrad hadn't intended for this to happen. His relationship with you was supposed to be no strings attached, simply business and pleasure, but somehow in the process of it all, Conrad had gone mad.
He thought of you, outside of the nights you spent together and the sheets you would tangle yourselves in. He imagined himself with you free from the sneaking around and the hook-ups.
You were Belly's best friend, and earlier in the year after getting intoxicated beyond measure you and Conrad had spent the night together. It was meant to be a one-time thing. One night of your skin against his, Conrad's lips on yours. Somehow in the mix of it all, you and Conrad had made a deal. Sex, no strings attached, no feelings involved, and nobody should know. At the time Conrad was okay with that, nights spent with you when he needed some relief, but somewhere along the line, Conrad had begun needing and wanting you as more than just a body to hold in the darkness.
Soon, summer would be over, and everyone would leave cousins behind until the next year, and that meant Conrad had a limited time with you. There was no telling if Belly would bring you back with her next year, either. Maybe bringing her best friend along was a one-time thing. Perhaps Conrad ran the risk of never seeing you again outside of occasions such as Belly's birthday parties. He hated to think about that, but what he found worse was that you probably didn't care about such a thing. As far as Conrad knew you were oblivious to his feelings for you, how they had grown over the nights you spent with him.
"Earth to Conrad!" It's Jeremiah, waving from across the kitchen. "Dude, get your ass moving, Belly and Y/N are back."
The sound of your name gets Conrad up, and he jumps down from the counter where he was sitting. When he makes it to the driveway, you and Belly are struggling with far too many grocery bags.
"You said you were just gonna get a couple of things, not hundreds." Conrad takes the bags from you, trying his best not to smile too broadly. If he does it might just reveal to the others how much time you and Conrad have really spent together. It might also let you see behind the curtain of his feelings, he's not sure he's ready to tell you how he feels yet.
"We got carried away." You look to Belly with a grin, Jeremiah laughing as he takes the rest of the bags
"We can see that."
It almost stops Conrad's heart when you push past him, shoulder brushing against his as you lift bottles of chocolate milk and juice up in your arms. He can't comprehend whether the contact was made on purpose or not, and he follows close behind as you wander into the house.
You head straight to the fridge to put the beverages away, Conrad dumping the bags he holds onto the counter with Jeremiah close behind. Conrad wants so badly to talk to you at that moment, and he hates himself for thinking about some kind of domestic lifestyle with you. It's been one summer after all, and somehow in the short time Conrad was blessed with your presence, such strong feelings have arisen.
He clears his throat before he can stop himself, and you turn, the refrigerator door falling shut as you do. Jeremiah eyes him closely too, and he knows then that he can't do this. Not now, not here. It's not fair of him to put you on the spot in front of Jeremiah and Belly. If he's going to confess how he feels, which Conrad is still not sure he can do, he's going to do it privately where he can gauge your genuine reaction. No outside components involved. So, Conrad walks away, acting as though he had never intended to say anything at all.
-
Conrad had spent more than enough time thinking about how he would broach the subject of his feelings to you, and in the end, he felt there was no possible way he could plan for it. You sat beside the pool with Belly, laughing with your feet in the water, and as much as Conrad knew you would hate him for it, he called out your name. When you looked up, the shock of it was all over your face.
"Can I talk to you for a sec?" Conrad speaks again, taking note of the way Belly glances between the two of you as if you are a foreign species about to do a peculiar dance.
You stand, slowly, and make your way to him, Conrad moving inside and away from the curious ears of Belly Conklin.
"I want to talk about us." He's careful with his words, and they feel foreign on his tongue. Us, as in you and Conrad together. It feels odd to say.
"What about us?" You look around as you say it, arms folding over your chest in discomfort. He hates to make you feel that way, but he can't keep hiding how he feels, not when summers almost gone.
"I want us to be something." It's a weird way to put it, but it's all Conrad can think of to say. "Something more than whatever the fuck we've been doing." He finds himself reaching for you, pulling your arms away from your chest so he can take your hands in his own. "I know we said no strings attached, but I fucking like you—a lot."
You can't seem to meet his eyes, dodging his gaze expertly as he gives your hands a gentle squeeze. He wanted your honest reaction, and he guesses this is it, though it's not the one he wanted. "Y/N, please look at me." He stares you down, and when you finally lock your eyes with his, he doesn't know what to think. You seem scared, and Conrad worries he might be the source of your fears.
"Belly is my best friend Conrad, this can't happen, even if I wanted it to."
"So you admit, you want more than what we have?" It sounds harsh when the words leave him, and Conrad doesn't intend it to be that way. He's just desperate, for you.
"Conrad," His name from your lips would be soothing, if not for the situation. He still holds your hands in his own, and he intertwines your fingers with his, hoping that it might mean something to you, and get you to change your mind. All you do is shake your head and he curses his bad luck that the one person he needs, he can't have.
"Y/N, please. Just give me one shot, give us one shot." He's pulled you just that little bit closer, a risky move considering anyone could walk in and catch you any second. He does it anyway, and you don't stop him. That's enough for him to lean in further, and then he waits. He's so close to you that the tip of his nose brushes against yours and the anticipation of his lips so close drives him crazy. When you close the gap he knows you feel the same. Even if he can't be with you, even if Belly and the others hold you back, he knows you have something.
"Don't make me wait till next summer." He whispers the words with his forehead pressed to yours when your lips break apart, looking down at his hands holding yours. He's in love, but he doesn't know when it happened, or how.
"There's no guarantee Belly will want me to come with her next year Con." It's a harsh truth that has to be spoken. There's no way Belly would let you come with her again next year if she knew what you and Conrad had been doing all summer. Maybe he could invite you back himself, but that wouldn't be fair on you or Belly. The only person that would be happy with the arrangement would be Conrad, and was he really that selfish?
"You have to leave in a week." The words are so quiet because even Conrad himself doesn't want to hear them. He says them anyway, hands moving up to hold your wrists. His grasp is gentle, but he can feel your pulse through his fingers and it reminds him just how real you are. He'd done that a lot over the last couple of weeks, and every time it hit him like a shockwave, a reminder that everything you had was reality and not just some distant dream.
"Do you want us to be more? Don't think about anyone else, just give me a yes or no." His eyes are pleading, and he knows it's unfair on you but he needs the answer. He needs to know.
"I really like you, Conrad," You bring a hand up to touch the side of his face, so gently that the touch is hardly registered against his skin. "But you know we can't."
"That's not an answer." He's determined and with each second that passes, that desperate feeling grows inside him, a weed that he can't remove from the garden.
You let out a sigh, shifting your gaze to the floor beside you, "We agreed on this being a no-strings-attached type of deal, and I hate that I'm attached to you now, but that's the rule, Conrad. That's the promise we made."
"I don't care about that promise." He's dead serious and when you turn to look at him again, he knows you are too. You shake your head, moving away from him.
"We can't."
-
A few days pass and Conrad knows your avoiding him. The days go by slowly, you don't answer his texts, and he hardly sees you around the beach house. You're around of course, and you act as though everything is fine so as to not draw attention to your sudden distaste for Conrad's presence, but you work hard to keep appearances where he may be to a minimum. Conrad called you a few times late at night too, hoping if anything to go back to the way things were before he confessed just so he could spend some time with you. You didn't pick up.
"Hey, where's Y/N?" it's the day before you leave Cousins, and Conrad can't help but ask Belly where you may be. He needs to talk to you, make sure everything is okay before you leave him and the beach house behind.
Belly's expression is one of confusion when she looks to him, a frown gracing her forehead as she shovels cereal through her lips. "What is it with you and her, something's going on."
Conrad can only shrug, wondering what you would do if he blew your cover. If he did maybe it would be easier to have a conversation with you, even if you were yelling at him, at least he would have you talking. But he doesn't want to hurt you and outing your little arrangement over the last month might just do that.
"I just want to know where she is Belly."
It's as if you know what he's doing because in the next moment his phone dings, and as he stares down at the screen it's your name that reflects against his eyes. He dashes out the door as soon as he sees it, ignoring Belly's concerned calls after him as he races to the sand dunes. When he gets there, you're waiting for him, knees hugged to your chest.
"You got my text." You look up when he's right beside you, and he lets out an exasperated laugh.
"It doesn't seem like you got many of mine." It's a dig at the way you'd been avoiding him and Conrad knows it's risky to say, but he does so anyway. He is a little annoyed with you after all.
"I'm sorry, I needed time to think." You shuffle over in the sand, an invitation for him to sit with you. He takes it gratefully, settling down at your side.
"You're leaving soon." His voice is quiet, and he waits. You say nothing, instead opting to rest your head on his shoulder, the silence enveloping you both. It's enough though, a gesture that tells Conrad just how much you'll miss him when summer is over. He rests his head over yours, and you wait together for your summer to reach its end.
-
On the final day, Conrad is at his limit. Watching you pack your things is almost too much for him, even though he knew it was coming. You'd said goodbye to him privately earlier in the day, a kiss or two exchanged, but Conrad hated it. It felt too final like he would never be seeing you again, and he refused to see that as a fact.
Now, you stand by the car, hugging Susannah goodbye. His mother strokes your hair lovingly, muttering something to you that he can't hear, and he can't believe summer is over. His summer with you, perhaps the only one he will get, is over. You're heading toward the car when he makes his decision, and the way his legs carry him over to you is almost abnormal. It's almost as though he has no control over his own body, his mind consumed with the thought of you, making his limps force their way to your figure.
"Y/N, wait." Your name falls from his lips smooth, his tongue so used to saying the word. You turn fast as if you'd been waiting for him. He hopes you were.
Conrad is selfish. He wants to be selfish and he's made his decision about that. He's willing to live with it, because, in the next moment, he's kissing you, bringing you into him in front of his family and friends, and making a statement that is full of risk and passion. But the best part is, he doesn't care how they'll react. Kissing you makes him feel alive as if he's a decent human being worthy of something, and if this is the last time he gets to feel that way, so be it. So he kisses you, and you kiss him back, that being a type of relief no drug can provide. He doesn't know what will happen when he pulls away, when your lips part from his, but for now, he doesn't want to find out. Not much time had passed since Conrad started his plan to win you back, and you were already growing suspicious.
First, it started with him going to your favorite place to grab your breakfast. He made it a point to hand you a croissant with more than familiar packaging, a gesture that seemed to bring back memories and leave you questioning his intentions.
Then he sat right next to you, even nudging your knee with his as you all ate breakfast, a deliberate closeness that bordered on invasive, stirring up a greater mixture of nostalgia and confusion within you.
Now he was volunteering to help you make the guest bedroom for Belly's dad and his dad's girlfriend.
You knew that Conrad had never been one for chores or family obligations lately. His sudden enthusiasm for helping out was as baffling as it was unexpected. Yet, there he was, smoothing out the sheets with surprising skill as he carefully arranged the pillows on the freshly made bed. It was as if he was determined to prove something to you, though you couldn't quite guess what that something might be.
The fact it was the 4th of July made the Cousins Beach air buzz with excitement and anticipation. Flags fluttered in the breeze, and the distant crackle of fireworks echoed through the neighborhood. The sun beat down, casting a warm glow over everything, as if the day itself was celebrating. But you knew that couldn't be it.
Conrad and you worked side by side, folding sheets and fluffing pillows in the guest bedroom, a comfortable rhythm settling between you. It was a far difference from the awkwardness that had plagued your interactions in recent days, replaced instead by a sense of closeness.
Conrad's sleeves were rolled up, revealing the faint sheen of sweat on his brow as he worked diligently, his movements precise and focused. You couldn't help but steal glances at him when he wasn't looking, admiring the way the sunlight caught the strands of his hair and the curve of his jawline.
Your conversation flowed effortlessly, punctuated by shared memories and inside jokes that seemed to bridge the gap between you. With each passing moment, the tension that had once lingered between you melted away, replaced instead by a growing sense of ease and familiarity.
As you smoothed out the final wrinkles in the freshly made bed, Conrad stole a sideways glance at you, his eyes softening with unspoken affection. It was a moment suspended in time, a fleeting glimpse of the connection you had once shared and the possibility of what could be.
"We both know I didn't volunteer just to help you make a bed," Conrad remarked, his voice gentle yet tinged with a hint of playfulness as he sat on the finished bed. "I've been wanting to talk to you forever."
You followed him, sitting down next to him. Your gaze met his with a mixture of curiosity and anticipation. Like you had predicted, there was more to Conrad's sudden eagerness to help than met the eye, and now, as you stood face to face, you couldn't ignore the tension that crackled between you.
"Is that why you insisted on helping me instead of Belly? She did give me a pancake apology," you replied, your tone light but tinged with a hint of teasing.
Your question hung in the air, a thread of curiosity along with a hint of suspicion. As you watched Conrad's reaction, you couldn't help but notice the subtle tightening of his jaw, the way his gaze momentarily flickered, betraying his intention to keep his emotions beneath the surface.
His fingers absently traced the pattern on the bedsheet, a nervous energy coursing through him, while his gaze remained fixed on some distant point, as if lost in a sea of conflicting thoughts.
"I mean, I did tell her off at that party if that helps," you offered, your voice light but teasing. You nudged him with your shoulder, a silent invitation for him to share his thoughts.
Conrad's tension eased slightly at your touch, the warmth of your proximity a balm to his troubled soul.
He glanced at you, his eyes softening with a mixture of gratitude and amusement. "Yeah, I heard something about that," Conrad's lips quirked into a smile at your remark, his gaze softening, "The night of our sleepover, right?"
You nodded, a soft chuckle escaping your lips like a fleeting breeze. The memory of that night danced between you, letting you share a flicker of warmth.
You both fell into another comfortable silence, only to be interrupted by the soft rustle of fabric as you leaned your shoulder into Conrad's. Sensing your proximity, Conrad instinctively inclined his head towards yours. He missed your laughter, but it was more like he missed laughing with you. So much that he found himself on the edge of confession.
In a voice barely above a whisper, Conrad's words lingered in the air, tinged with a hint of vulnerability. "I know we can't go back in time," he paused, "but I want to know everything I missed," he confessed, his nerves palpable despite his attempt to mask them.
You stayed silent.
Conrad's courage swelled within him. With newfound determination, he lifted his gaze to meet yours, his voice a gentle murmur meant for your ears alone. "I really miss you. I miss Bambi, our secret meetings, everything," Conrad admitted, his sincerity echoing in the tender space between you.
Your gaze met Conrad's with an intensity that sent a rush of warmth flooding through your veins. In that moment, you realized how much you felt the same, and it was scary. It was scary that after everything that happened, you could still feel the same way about him that you did the summer before.
Both of you were closer than ever, but you didn't mind.
Your eyes locked, a silent conversation passing between you as you leaned in, your breaths mingling in the space between you. With a gentle touch, Conrad cupped your cheek, his thumb tracing the curve of your jawline, sending shivers down your spine.
Who initiated the final movement would remain unknown. Yet, in that brief instant of contact, your worlds collided. Your lips met his in a tender embrace. It was a kiss filled with longing and reassurance, a promise of all the words left unspoken. In that moment, time seemed to stand still as you lost yourselves in the warmth of each other's embrace.
"Guys!" A series of knocks on the door followed Steven's voice. It startled you both, causing you to pull away rapidly, "They're here!"
Breathless and flushed, Conrad's forehead pressed against yours, your hearts beating in sync. In the quiet aftermath, you shared a smile that turned into nervous laughs, "I also missed this," Conrad murmured, his voice a gentle caress against your skin, as you lingered in the quiet space between words. Had you finally found your way back?
You stood up, taming your curls the best you could with your fingers, "Come on, let's go."

Conrad sighed quietly as y/n’s giggle rang out from a few yards away. He watched as his brother Jeremiah chased after y/n as she ran along the shore. They’d all been hanging out along the pier when Jeremiah randomly claimed he could outrun y/n. Conrad watched as y/n immediately started running down the dock and onto the hot sand as soon as the statement left Jeremiah’s mouth.
Conrad was happy the girl he loved and his brother got along so well. However, he couldn’t help but feel a twinge of jealousy over their friendship. Jeremiah and y/n had been friends before she’d even met Conrad. In fact, Conrad met y/n through his younger brother. Which certainly did not help his feelings of jealousy.
Conrad trusted y/n, more than he trusted anyone else. Yet, he didn’t care for the way y/n’s friends would call Jeremiah her boy friend. Sure, they used the appropriate spacing between the words. But, it was still too close to the term boyfriend for Conrad’s liking.
Conrad knew y/n, Jeremiah, and her friends meant no harm by it. In fact, it was something Jeremiah had started when trying to scare some creep away from y/n at a frat party a few years back. Jeremiah had come up and interrupted the frat guys’ incessant small talk and introduced himself by saying, “I’m Jeremiah, y/n’s boy….friend”. When y/n questioned Jeremiah for calling himself her boyfriend, worried that their friendship would fall apart due to her not returning his feelings, he clarified that he’d said boy friend not boyfriend. Jeremiah had known that the guy would back off thinking he meant boyfriend and just unintentionally added the awkwardly long pause between the words. It worked, the guy left y/n alone after that. Since that night, the nickname just stuck.
Usually it didn’t bother Conrad that greatly. But today, he’d been witness to multiple incidents in which he felt Jeremiah was better at the role. Be it boy friend or even boyfriend. Between Jeremiah joking around until y/n laughed after she got into a fight via text with her best friend, Jeremiah picking out ridiculous clothes he dared y/n to buy, and now chasing her down the beach, Conrad was feeling like a third wheel. He felt bad for feeling like this, but it was out of his control.
Y/n leaned forward, her hands on her thighs as she tried to catch her breath. As she was gasping for air, her chest heaving, she felt arms wrap around her. Within seconds Jeremiah had flipped her body so she was now hanging upside down over his shoulder. Y/n squeaked quietly as she tried to get out of Jeremiah’s grip.
Y/n’s momentary shock turned into panic as she continued to still struggle to breathe. Being upside down, her abdomen pressed against Jeremiah’s shoulder blade, wasn’t helping her predicament. Y/n took short gasps before choked out, “Jere, stop,”.
Only, Jeremiah took it as a joke. He figured y/n’s shortness of breath was due to laughing too much, not from being unable to breathe. So, he shook his head and chuckled loudly as he marched back towards his brother. Jeremiah could barely see the panicked look cross Conrad’s face before his brother’s arms were on him. He barely had time to acknowledge the change in Conrad’s demeanor before he was feeling his brother peel y/n from his grip.
“Let her go Jere!” Conrad shouted, bending his brother’s fingers away from y/n’s legs. He ignored Jeremiah’s confused laughter and kept prying y/n from his brother’s hold. “I’m serious, fucking let her go!” Conrad exclaimed, his heart racing as he watched y/n weakly smack Jeremiah’s back.
“Okay, okay,” Jeremiah replied, shaking his head as he arched forwards.
The second Jeremiah was leaning down, y/n’s feet searched for the sand. She let out a loud sigh before taking in a giant gasp. Her lungs were burning, her eyes watery from the sensation. Y/n’s frantic eyes darted around until they found Conrad standing right by her. She’d kinda felt someone’s hands on her back, but she was so out of it that until she saw him, she didn’t even really notice it.
Y/N’s eyes lifted from where she saw Conrad’s Converse as they sank into the sand under them, and up to his face. The second she lifted her head enough to see his worried gaze, y/n all-but launched herself into his embrace. Y/n was still painfully sucking in more air, her hand now gripping the front of her boyfriend’s shirt.
Y/n could faintly make out Jeremiah’s apologetic tone as she focused on her breathing. She vaguely her him apologizing to her and Conrad for not knowing she wasn’t playing around. Y/n didn’t respond, instead letting Conrad handle the situation as he simultaneously rubbed her back soothingly.
Once y/n had regained her normal breathing rhythm, even though the air still burned in her lungs now, she sighed with relief. She gazed up at Conrad and offered him a cheek kiss in appreciation. When he looked down at her with such concern and love, y/n lifted her hand up and stroked his flushed cheek. “I’m okay now, Con,” she promised, wincing at how her weak voice made that sound untrue.
Conrad lifted a brow questioningly as he continued to watch y/n closely. But, as she nodded promisingly and took a visible deep breath, he settled. Conrad draped his arms carefully over her shoulders, being sure they were only touching y/n with a featherlight weight. He crooked his neck and placed a kiss to the top of y/n’s head, “good”.

The group was now settled back on the pier, quietly enjoying some ice-cream. Jeremiah had refused to stop apologizing until y/n suggested he could make up for it by buying them all some dessert. As such, they were now seated at a picnic table on the boardwalk, eating his apology.
Y/n sucked the melted ice-cream off her spoon as she watched her boyfriend closely. She noticed he seemed a bit off today; even before her windless breathing attack moments ago. She’d tried to bring it up earlier, but Conrad hadn’t really answered her. So as she took another spoonful of ice-cream from their shared dish, y/n kept staring at him; as if she stared long enough maybe she could read his mind through his beautiful cerulean eyes.
Jeremiah too had noticed something was bothering his older brother. But, he figured it was just one of Connie’s ‘moody moments’. As such, he hadn’t thought much of it until now. But, as Jeremiah watched y/n stare at Conrad and then look his way with a raised curious eyebrow, he decided enough was enough.
“Hey, uh,” Jeremiah said suddenly, his voice ending the peaceful silence surrounding their table. “I’m going to head back, keep the keys,” he said, digging the Jeep keys from his pocket and sliding them across the wooden slats towards his brother.
“Everything okay Jere?” Conrad asked, squinting at the car keys as they scratched against the panels on the picnic table. When he looked back up, he saw Jeremiah and y/n had seemingly exchanged a knowing look.
Jeremiah nodded, “yeah man”. He shrugged, picking up the bowl containing his remaining ice-cream. “Steven wanted to hang later, so I should get going,” Jeremiah explained. “Besides, gotta let the couple have some alone time,” he winked.
Conrad chuckled lightly as y/n smiled and shook her head before resting it on his shoulder. He nodded at his younger brother, “you walking then?”. Conrad quickly glanced towards the beach house, making sure it wasn’t too far. He smiled as Jeremiah nodded with a grin.
“Yep,” Jeremiah answered, tossing his ice-cream container in the trash bin beside them. “Well, I want hugs,” he said, holding his arms out expectantly. After both y/n and Conrad hugged him, Jeremiah smirked. “Alright, I best head out. I’m just the boy friend after all, now you gotta spend time with your boyfriend, y/n/n,” he playful instructed, making y/n laugh lightly.
Y/n waved goodbye to Jeremiah and then turned towards Conrad. Her smile fell off her face as she noticed Conrad’s smile had disappeared. She knew he was smiling right after hugging his brother, so what changed? Y/n took a calming breath as she set her hands on Conrad’s.
Conrad dropped his spoon back into the ice-cream dish when y/n had rested her hands over his. He looked up at her in confusion, only to frown when he saw her serous expression. Conrad wordlessly flipped his hands over so he could interlace their fingers. He shifted so he was straddling the picnic table bench so he was properly facing his girlfriend. Conrad watched y/n closely as he patiently waited for her to say whatever was on her mind.
“Connie,” y/n sighed, a pout pushing out her bottom lip. “Are…,” she huffed lightly before forcing on a tight and inauthentic smile, “are we okay?”. When y/n saw the wave of confusion cross her boyfriend’s face, a wave of relief hit her. “You’re not mad at me? Or, trying to avoid me?” She wondered quietly.
Conrad squeezed y/n’s hands tightly as he shook his head quickly. “No, no,” he gushed, “‘course not!” Conrad’s brows scrunched as he analyzed y/n’s eyes. “Wh-why would you think that, baby?”
Y/n let out an audible sigh before a slight smile graced her lips. “I dunno…” she shrugged, looking away from Conrad briefly, her eyes casting towards the ocean. “You just seemed off today,” y/n said, hearing Conrad’s subsequent sigh. “I mean… I know everyone has their days…” she clarified. “B-but… one second you were smiling that dashing smile you know I love and then the next second, when Jere mentioned me spending time with you, it was gone,” y/n pointed out cautiously.
Conrad sighed again as his thumbs rubbed the back of y/n’s hands. “It’s not you,” he promised, shaking his head. His guilt over feeling so envious had tripled now that he’d seen what it did to his girl. “I promise,” Conrad swore, moving his face closer to y/n’s. “I love spending time with you, baby,” he smiled, eyes flickering between y/n’s y/e/c eyes and her soft lips.
Y/n picked up on Conrad’s not-so-subtle gaze and smiled. She leaned forward, closing the distance between them until their lips met. Y/n felt Conrad’s hands tighten their hold on hers as he smiled into the kiss. When she pulled back, she slipped one hand out of his hold and moved it to his face. Y/n tilted her head to the side slightly as her thumb graced Conrad’s cheekbone, “then do it. Talk to me”.
Conrad leaned into y/n’s touch but frowned as he contemplated having to explain his feelings to her. He didn’t want y/n to hate him for how insecure he was feeling. He didn’t want y/n to feel like she had to choose between the brothers; especially as he wasn’t sure if he would be the chosen one. Conrad, of course, noticed the patient gaze his girlfriend wore as she saw his silent appreciation for what it was.
“I…,” Conrad licked his lips as he paused. “I love that you and Jere are close,” he disclaimed, waiting until y/n nodded that she understood. “But,…” Conrad shook his head a self deprecating scoff left his lips. “I can’t help but feel… like maybe… you are closer with him than me…” he mumbled, not knowing how to express his emotions without labeling them as jealousy.
Y/n watched Conrad wordlessly for a moment, hoping time would give him the chance to let go of whatever he was holding back. She lifted the left side of her lips as she squeezed his hand lovingly. “He’s just a friend, Connie,” y/n vowed, “I promise”.
Conrad nodded quickly with guilt and shame. “No, I, I know,” he admitted quietly. “I-I trust you,” Conrad said, nodding to himself, “I know you’re just friends”.
Y/n hummed delicately. She frowned as she looked at the sad expression on her boyfriend’s face. “Then why are you so jealous?” Y/n asked in a whispered manner as she once again traced Conrad’s cheekbone with her thumb.
“I’m not jealous,” Conrad blurted. A blatant lie. They both knew as much. He winced faintly at his own fib.
“Conrad,” y/n sighed lightly, using her tone to wordlessly convey he didn’t have to lie to her about this.
Conrad laughed humorlessly. “Okay, fine… I’m jealous,” he confessed reluctantly. “B-but it’s just… you two are so close, and…” Conrad trailed off, his eyes flittering away from y/n’s gaze in embarrassment.
Y/n’s head unconsciously tilted more to the left in confusion. She licked her bottom lip, bringing it in between her upper and bottom teeth momentarily. While lightly biting her lip, she analyzed her evidently insecure boyfriend in front of her. Y/n frowned, unable to find any other words to express her confusion then, “so are you and I, babe”.
Conrad nodded, a small smile on his lips as his eyes stayed glued to the small gap of picnic table bench between his lap and y/n. “In a different way,” he expressed solemnly. It wasn’t that Conrad didn’t love what he and y/n had, he hoped she knew as much. He just…, he felt bad for not being able to give her what Jeremiah’s friendship could; random, spontaneous, thrilling fun adventures.
Y/n’s hand lowered from Conrad’s cheek out of shock. She remained silent as her arm slowly sank back down to her side. “And, what’s wrong with that?” Y/n questioned breathily. “I…I love what we have, Connie,” she admitted, her worried eyes finding Conrad’s gaze.
Conrad swallowed thickly, his guilt building even more. This was exactly what he worried would happen. He hated that he wasn’t great at expressing his feelings and emotions. No matter how hard Conrad tried, that was something else Jeremiah seemed to be better at. “So do I,” Conrad proclaimed reassuringly, tightening his hold on y/n’s hand. He flipped their earlier roles/behaviors and used his free hand to cup y/n’s sun-warmed cheek. Conrad’s pinky finger was hooked underneath y/n’s chin, the soft tissue composing the side of his upper thumb rested in the valley between the slope of her nose and her cheekbone, his other three fingers lightly bore down captivatingly onto y/n’s upper jaw. Conrad could feel y/n’s tender and heated exaltations billowing out of her hydrated and plump lips and onto his thumb pad as it was pressed flatly against her lips.
“Then, what’s the problem?” Y/n asked mutely. “I’m not-,” she sighed, her breath ricocheting off of Conrad’s thumb pad area of his palm and back against her mouth. “I’m not understanding what you’re wondering about, Connie,” y/n admitted considerately.
“Am I enough?” Conrad questioned aloud. His breathy voice showed the softness of his vulnerability and insecurity. Conrad hated having to ask y/n this. He knew she loved him. Plus, Conrad despised putting y/n in a situation in which it made it seem like he needed her to constantly reassure him. This was his problem and he preferred to keep it that way. But, as Conrad gazed into y/n’s curious and compassionate eyes, the words escaped his mouth before he could stop them.
“What?!” Y/n sputtered. Her y/e/c eyes blinked rapidly as she gawked at Conrad. Disbelief would be an understatement for what she was feeling in that moment. How could Conrad not know how absurd that question was?!
Before y/n could utter another word or ask a more articulate clarifying question, Conrad began explaining himself. “I.. I’m not asking you to fix my insecurities baby; that’s not fair to you,” he determined. “I know you love me, I do, I assure you”. Conrad knew he needed to keep y/n from worrying that he didn’t feel the weight or sincerity of her love for him. “Baby,” he exhaled deeply, “I want to give you everything, but-“.
“Conrad,” y/n chimed in. She’d had enough of her boyfriend suggesting he was anything less the wonderful man she was in love with. Y/n cherished that he was being open and honest about his feelings, but she didn’t want him to wallow in them. Certainly not when they were so far off base.
“Connie,” y/n cooed, “you do.” She leaned her head into Conrad’s hold, nuzzling into his sail-boat-calloused palm. “You are everything,” y/n exclaimed breathlessly. “Sure, I’m friends with Jeremiah, but that’s just it. He’s just a boy who is my friend. You’re my boyfriend,” she commented. Seeing Conrad’s still present sadness, y/n added, “and, also a boy who is my friend”. She lovingly shook her head, Conrad’s fingers tenderly curling against her cheek in response. “You’re more than enough, you’re everything,” y/n vowed, intensely gazing into Conrad’s oceanic eyes.
Conrad’s cheeks flushed cerise as a bashful grin donned his lips. “I’m sorry for being jealous,” he apologized, “I do like it that you and Jere are so close”. Conrad grinned widely when y/n twisted her head slightly to place an adoring kiss to his palm. “I just can’t stand the idea of losing you,” he confessed. As uncomfortable as Conrad was while struggling to express himself, he now felt like a weight had been lifted off his chest. He was undoubtedly still slightly jealous of Jeremiah, but at least it wasn’t a secret anymore.
“You don’t need to worry about that, you’re stuck with me Conrad Fisher,” y/n winked. She giggled warmly as Conrad’s lips gifted her nose with a kiss. Y/n rested her forehead against Conrad’s before he had the chance to pull back completely. Her lips formed a painfully large smile as her boyfriend whispered how thankful he was to be ‘stuck’ with her.

Later that day, Conrad had to head to Cleveland’s for work, leaving y/n and Jeremiah to themselves again. He never worried about his absence, fully trusting his girlfriend and brother. And truth be told, he felt infinitesimally better knowing that y/n knew of his slight jealousy now; knowing she’d likely be even more cautious of the friendship boundary lines.
Yet, as Conrad returned home from work, he frowned upon not not being greeted by his sweet girlfriend. He begrudgingly dragged himself upstairs to shower and change so he could rid himself of the scent of fishing lure from Cleveland’s boat. Conrad sent a quick text to y/n to let her know he was home so he could possibly join her and his brother once he was done showering. He then plugged his phone into the charger and slipped into the bathroom to get cleaned up.
Conrad’s chuckled to himself despite the way his lips hurt from the size of his grin. He locked his phone and slid it into his shorts’ pocket before he looked back out his bedroom window again. Conrad leaned against the windowsill for a moment, taking in the sweet gesture.

While Conrad had been away at work, y/n and Jeremiah had relaxed on the beach. Y/n had tried to finished a novel she was reading while Jeremiah took advantage of the nice day by surfing. It was a laid back few hours, only breaking when Jeremiah caught sight of y/n wiping her hands against the sand in an odd manner.
When Jeremiah had ventured out of the waves and back to his friend on the shore, he laughed upon seeing what y/n was trying to do. “You’re so cheesy,” he groaned playfully, shoving her shoulder.
Y/n glared lightheartedly at her friend and then refocused on the sandy canvas before her. She’d smoothed out the sand so that she could write a cute message for her boyfriend, on she arranged so he could see it from his bedroom window. “Shut up,” y/n griped as Jere mumbled something about her being a simp for his brother.
“Just stay back,” y/n scolded, pushing Jeremiah away from her makeshift canvas of smoothed sand. “No ruining my masterpiece,” she commented playfully as she mentally envisioned the way she’d write the message in the hot sand. When she heard Jeremiah continue to mock her, y/n glared over at him, a little less playfully this time. “Look, he could really use this,” she defended, turning back to the empty space before her.
Jeremiah noticed the sincerity in y/n’s voice and decided to help. He knew even if he pushed her to a state of total annoyance, she’d never tell him what was bothering his brother Conrad. Y/n was loyal like that, especially when it came to her boyfriend, even though her boyfriend just so happened to be Jeremiah’s brother. So, while he wished he knew what was troubling Con, Jeremiah cluelessly decided to go along with y/n’s idea.
By the time Conrad had texted that he was home and hopping into a quick shower, the friends had finished their messages. Y/n had written, “I’m yours” in the sand with a smiley face next to it. She then had to help Jeremiah finish their shared sand-written note. When done, it read “we love you”, a large crooked heart drawn under the message. It was at that time that y/n texted Conrad to look out his window when he could.
While they waited for Conrad to join them, or text that he’d seen the sand messages and wanted them to hang out inside, Jeremiah taunted y/n. He kept pretending he was going to kick or toss sand over her note, a playful grin on his lips as he ran around the words. Y/n scolded him for getting too close to the note, shaking her head at his playful but careless behavior.
After begging Conrad to relieve her of Jeremiah duty, y/n wandered over to where a small section of smoothed but untouched sand remained. She smiled to herself as she knelt down and stuck her finger into the sun-heated sand. Y/n signed “I”, a little heart, “you”, in cursive letters. She leaned back and smacked Jeremiah’s leg as his approach left trace clumps of sand around the otherwise pristine note. But, as she threw her head back to look up at the beach house, she saw movement in the window of Conrad’s bedroom.
Y/n narrowed her eyes in an attempt to see through the glare on Conrad’s bedroom window. When she could make out his shirtless frame facing outwards, she smiled and waved. Seemingly knowing that y/n wouldn’t be able see his facial expression, Conrad waved back before forming a heart with his hands. Y/n giggled like a schoolgirl with a crush as she watched him point to her before his body left the window; presumably to finish getting ready to venture down to join her and Jere.
“You’re such a dork,” Jeremiah teased, kicking some light sand onto y/N’s lap. As she lifted her head back up to squint at him, Jeremiah smirked. “Who would’ve thought,” he tsked playfully. “Little miss y/n, falling for the moody older brother of her boy friend,” Jeremiah commented with a taunting shake of his head.
“Shut up , Jere,” y/n warned lightly. “He’s not moody, you’re just annoying,” she hummed, leaning back as she supported herself with her palms pressed against the sand backwards and slightly to the side of her butt. Y/n smiled as her peripheral vision caught a glimpse of Conrad jogging down the oak stairway connecting the summer house to the beach.
“Look at you,” Jeremiah chided with mock disbelief.
“You best watch it, or I’ll be sure to tell Sam what you said the other night,” y/n threatened, knowing the implication would make Jeremiah shut up. She smirked proudly as her friend gaped in offense.
“You do that…” Jeremiah mumbled, pulling his phone from his pocket. “And I show my brother that precious baby picture of you that I dared y/bff/n to send me,” he smirked back, knowing he had the upper hand again.
“You wouldn’t dare,” y/n gasped, pushing herself off the sand. When Jeremiah casually shrugged and unlocked his phone, y/n lunged forward to try and grab it. She sighed as Jeremiah took off down the beach, reluctantly chasing after him.
Jeremiah spun around suddenly, picking y/n up in a split second move. “Just remember, unless you want your boyfriend to see that photo, you say nothing to Sam,” he teased, tickling y/n’s sides as she squirmed.
Y/n huffed as Jeremiah set her back down with a look of achievement on his smug face. She glared at him but before she could comment, she heard her boyfriends voice asking what photo Jeremiah was referencing. Y/n didn’t even have to see Conrad’s face to notice his jealousy. She frowned to herself at how quickly things had changed.
Y/n snatched Jeremiah’s phone from his hand as Conrad reached their side. When Jeremiah protested about how it was not okay for her to do that and delete the photo, y/n waved her hand dismissively at her friend. “I’m not deleting it,” she argued, entering Jeremiah’s pin and unlocking the device. “I’m showing Conrad the photo,” y/n elaborated as she pulled up Jeremiah’s photo album app.
“Babe, you don’t need-,” Conrad commented quietly, his hands set softly on y/n’s waist. He appreciated what she was trying to do, but didn’t want to overstep either. And according to what he’d caught of Jeremiah and y/n’s playful fight, she didn’t want to share said photo.
Y/n shook her head, placing a quick kiss to Conrad’s cheek as she noticed his guilty expression. “It’s fine, but you can’t laugh,” she warned, covering Jeremiah’s phone as she loaded the photo in question. “Okay, well, you can,” y/n amended as Jere laughed loudly, “But.. Okay,…”. She moved her hand away from the phone and showed Conrad the embarrassing baby picture her mother just had to take.
Conrad stifled a chuckle as he squeezed y/n’s hip. “You look adorable,” he commented sweetly. When y/n shot him a exasperated look, his laughter increased. “You do!” Conrad defended, shaking his head lovingly. “A bit crazy, but I can handle crazy,” he joked with a wink.
Y/n gasped in faux offense as she walked away from the brothers. She could hear them both following after her, still trying to quiet their laughter. She shook her head despite the smirk she was only able to hide because her back was to them. As her feet reached the crisp water, she grinned wickedly as she scooped up a piece of seaweed that had washed ashore.
“Baby,” Conrad hummed, wiping his eyes as he hooked his arm around y/n’s lower back. He pulled her to his side and pressed a kiss to the top of her head as he grinned. “You do look cute in it though,” Conrad promised despite the amused tone of his voice.
Y/n turned around, letting Conrad adjust his arms to hook behind her. She lifted her arms around his neck, keeping an innocent look on her face. “Not as cute as you look right now,” she hummed. Y/n quickly draped the still damp seaweed onto Conrad’s shoulders before rushing out of his arms.
Y/n giggled loudly as she examined her boyfriend who was now staring at her in shock. She bit her lip and pulled out her phone to snap a quick photo. As she slid the phone back into her back pocket, she noticed Conrad was stalking towards her, a playfully menacing look in his eyes. Y/n gave him an exaggerated grin before running away.
Conrad chased after y/n, his smile never faltering. He decided against picking her up upon reaching her, the way that his brother had multiple times earlier today. Instead, Conrad chose to let that be Jeremiah’s thing with her. So, when y/n was finally in reach, Conrad snaked his hands around her frame and spun her around to face him. He wordlessly kissed her, tilting her backwards minimally; while fully supporting her frame nevertheless.
Jeremiah smirked to himself as he watched his brother and friend. He shook his head at the disgustingly sweet scene and took a quick candid photo for the couple. Jeremiah was beyond thrilled that despite whatever had been troubling Conrad today, his brother and friend were both so clearly happy together.

It was early in the morning, you were coming back from a party at Sheila’s house. To say that you had a hangover from last night was an understatement, all you wanted was to take your dress off and sleep until Christmas. You arrived at the Fisher’s house, the place where you spend all your vacations, carefully you took your shoes off and started walking upstairs trying to not make any noise and damn, you did it, you got into your bedroom like a spy, you were even proud of yourself for it. You took your dress and your bra off and left them in the corner of the room. You opened your wardrobe and started looking for a large shirt to wear, a few minutes later, you found a shirt that was exactly what you were looking for, it was large and it said “Cousins Volleyball Team”, you didn’t think much, put it on and went to bed.
You woke up several hours later starving, you got up and walked like a zoombie to the kitchen to look for something to eat and, hopefully, helps you with the headache that you were feeling. When you walked through the living room, you saw Conrad and Jeremiah there talking about something.
“Good morning sleeping beauty” Conrad said and Jere laughed.
“Morning” you answered sitting besides Conrad and resting your head on his shoulder. “I’m never drinking alcohol again.”
“Tonight we have a bonfire” Jeremiah said and you looked at him.
“After the bonfire I’ll never drink alcohol again.” The brother laughed and you pressed your forehead in Conrad’s shoulder.
“Well, I have to go to work, see you later.” Jeremiah left leaving you and Conrad there.
“Want some waffles?” Conrad asks and you look at him like the answer was obvious. He laughed. “Okay, let’s go to the kitchen” He got up and stopped in front of you looking to the shirt you were wearing. “Are you wearing my shirt?”
You looked down and it was Conrad’s shirt, you didn’t even think about it before putting it on.
“I guess, it was in my wardrobe last night.” You said and Conrad continue looking at you with a small grin at his face. “I can change if you want.” Before you could stand up, Conrad stopped you.
“No, Y/N/N, don’t.”
“But…”
“It looks better on you anyway.” He smiled and you blushed. “So… Waffles?” You smiled in answer and Conrad reaches out to you, you take his hand and both of you walked to the kitchen.

The drive to Brown was horrible tonight. It’s as if it was raining cats and dogs. But you told yourself nothing would stop you from seeing your boyfriend. You had a horrible week back at home. Your sister Belly was making you help her with trigonometry, and the only person you learned from was Conrad but he was busy this whole week with finals. Belly would take up all your free time when you weren’t doing your classes online. You decided to stay home your first 2 years and do online to help with Susannah and your mom as they both were going through a lot. But to your siblings, that just meant you’re always home for them to ask you for anything.
The rain calmed down as you entered the campus. He didn’t know you were coming but he did text you and tell you he has the weekend free to rest until his next final on monday. You wouldn’t be lying if you said that you cried the 3 hours of driving you did and all of connie’s texts were going unanswered so he became worried. He called Steven who told him you were sleeping— he was in on the surprise.
Pulling up to his dorm building you parked the car and grabbed your bag before running through the rain to the entrance. You tried to use the backpack as an umbrella but it didn’t work as your clothes got damp. Walking to the elevator it opened and you clicked the top floor. It felt like the machine was taking forever because he was just a few feet away. And it’s been almost 3 weeks since you saw him last. The sliding doors opened and you speed-walked to his door. Standing in front of it, you knocked breathing out of your mouth.
“coming!” the familiar voice yelled out and the door opened to his beautiful face
“hi.” you softly spoke scared he didn’t want you here but he didn’t say anything just ran and picked you up holding you close to him
“oh my gosh.” his head was in your neck breathing in your scent “you’re here.” he looked back at your teary face
“i missed you.” he wiped a fallen tear
“don’t cry.” he kissed your forehead running his hands through your damp hair “you drove in this rain?” worry struck his face
“i needed to see you.” both his hands cupped your face
“i was so worried when you didn’t answer and then steven said you were sleeping, i didn’t believe him.” he laughed and you shook your head at your young brother
“can i come in?” he moved and let you into the dorm room. his roommate was gone and conrad’s side of the room was neatly made just like he always did in cousins
“my roommate finished his finals so he’s gone.” the door closed behind you as you dropped your bag pealing off your jacket before flopping on his bed “dork.” he chuckled and climbed behind you bringing him towards you. “missed you,” he mumbled
“not possible i missed you more.” you turned around in his arms taking in his face. his thumb slowly drifted across your face
“i’m sorry that i was so busy, i know you were having a hard week.” you shook your head
“just had no time to relax. Belly needed help with trig and it got to a point i couldn’t understand, and then steven called me one night at like three am drunk asking for a ride when i had work at five. my mom was all over the place with your mom and it was a mess.” he didn’t interrupt you he just listened
“i’m sorry i couldn’t be there, you know jere can help too.”
“jere was drunk with steven.”
“of course he was.” conrad laughed “well i’m almost done with finals so i’m gonna be all yours.” he sighed bringing you closer to kiss you softly and you brought your hands up to his soft hair that you missed so much. the kiss depended as he moved to get on top of you putting his weight on you “missed you so much, gosh,” he whispered against your lips
“show me.” his eyes darkened as those words came out of your mouth.
“baby,” he mumbled looking down at you
“con, i’ve missed you so much, please. it’s been forever since you touched me.” a small smirk grew on his face before he leaned down to kiss your lips softly and then slowly descend down to your neck, but his lips stayed there as his hand drifted down towards the waistband of your sweatpants “please”
He didn’t have to be told twice by you. Conrad let his hand slip under your underwear and finally makes contact with you feeling the effect he has on you. His fingers started slowly circling your clit and it made you buck your hips into him feeling the hard pressure from him against you. He didn’t focus on that. Only you. He wanted to make sure you were satisfied. He could wait. As he teased you around your entrance his lips stopped kissing your neck and he looked into your eyes lovingly.
“hi,” you breathed into him as he ran a finger over you again
“hi baby.” he smiled down at you and slipped a finger inside of you catching your mouth in a gasp he kissed you “like that?” you nodded fast against him as he slowly moved in and out of you “so pretty.” he kissed the tip of your nose as he moved his thumb to play with your clit again circling it just how you liked it
“con.” you bucked into him again
“i’m not gonna let you cum, don’t you worry we’re gonna do that together.” he moved faster on the spot you needed him most before pulling out of you when he knew you were getting close
“yeah, yeah.” you sighed and conrad peeled off his shirt over his head and then helped you out of yours to see the lace bra you were wearing
“for me?” you leaned back on your elbows giving him a nice view
“the one and only.” he chuckled before you grabbed the side of his face and brought your lips back together. you slightly lifted yourself and unclipped your bra letting it fall between the both of your bodies. conrad sighed as he looked at your tits wondering how he got so lucky. he then moved both his hands to your waistband and separated from you
“you sure? i just thought you would be tired from the drive.” you couldn’t help but smile at him as he was the most caring and loving boy you have ever met
“for you, always.” he didn’t need another word before dragging both your underwear and pants down and tossed them off the bed to the floor
“careful connie gonna get your room dirty.”
“i’m only fine with that if you cause the mess.” he connected your lips once more as your hands drifted to his jeans. you could do this blindfolded anytime any day of the week. the button popped and you rolled the zipper down and pushed the fabric past his thighs, conrad groaned as it went past his hard erection
“fuck.” he fell to your shoulder
“seems like someone missed me,” you said kissing the side of his head
“give me a break, there’s so much phone sex with you can do.” you couldn’t respond as he bit down on your neck. next thing you knew his boxers were off and he was reaching into his side table for a condom. you designed the box where he kept them as it said ‘for y/n use only’ which you loved and conrad laughed as you gave it to him for his birthday. he ripped open the package and you relaxed on the bed as he slipped the condom on “soft tonight okay? missed you too much.” biting your lip you nodded as he breathed out lining up to you before pushing in little by little getting used to you again
“conrad.” you gasped digging your nails into his back
“i know baby, we have to get used to it again.” he moved a little more as a small whimper came out of you
“just go all the way. this is too much.” he listened to your words and pushed more into you
“fuck!” he bottomed out catching his breath and looked down at your closed-eyed figure “look at me.” he moved your hair from your face and your eyes opened to his pretty face “if it becomes too much, you let me know.”
“okay, i promise.” he relaxed onto you and moved his hips out before pushing them back into you causing both of you to groan
“j-just don’t moan too loud, i got neighbors.” he breathed out. last time you both had sex here conrad got a noise complaint and if he got a second one it would be his last warning for any visitors
“sorry.” you whispered against his lips and his hips slowed movements letting you feel him “don’t slow down.”
“just needed to feel you.” he dipped his head into the crook of your neck holding you close as if he wasn’t inside of you close enough already, you squeezed around him and his body jolted “if you do that again i will cum, and i really don’t want that.”
“then fuck me conrad.” he lifted his head as his eyes darkened over yours
“yes ma’am.” he pulled out all the way and slammed his hips back into yours the sound of skin slapping echoed around the room, he did that multiple times. it wasn’t hard it was telling and passion
As your breaths mixed you both slowly started to lose control. His hips got sloppy and that was a sigh he was getting closer to his edge. But something about conrad is he never wanted to finish first, he wanted you to have to spotlight before he finished after you.
“cant last much longer.” he grabbed one of your hands bringing it above your head and interlocking your fingers together as he looked down between the both of you and where you were connected
“me too.” you arched your back as he hit a spot like never before “fuck.” the man above you continued to hit that g-spot and you started to shake uncontrollably “con-“ he brought his lips down to your mouth and dragged one more thrust before you came, he slowed his movements letting you relax.
“i got you.” he pushed some of your hair away from your face
“did you finish?” the answer was no. he wanted you to feel special even before he could ever
“no it’s okay, i wanted it to be about you-“ you cut him off flipping both of you over carefully as the twin bed didn’t have much room. you slipped the condom off tying it and tossed it in his trash can
“y/n.” he sighed laying back on full display for you
“let me take care of you now.” leaning down his hard erection stayed up, red at the tip wanted to release
“do something baby.” you nodded before taking him all in your mouth
“god i love it when you do that.” using your hands you stroked what you couldn’t fit in your mouth and he bucked into your mouth hearing a gagging sound come from your throat “sorry.” but you ignored him coming up and sucking on the tip before going down again “cumming.” he groaned out and the warm texture filled your mouth some falling out past your lips “fuck, fuck” he held your head in place slowly pumping to get the rest out “good girl.” he sighed and fell back onto his pillow as you swallowed what you could then grabbing his shirt to clean the both of you
“good?” you wanted to make it everything he wanted
“amazing, come here.” he reached for you and you grabbed the blanket at the end of the bed before cuddling into his side covering the think texture over the two of you “i love you.” he looked down at your face
“i love you.” leaning up to kiss him softly he could taste himself on you and he knew there would be many more rounds tomorrow “thank you for visiting.”
“of course, i’d be lost without you conrad fisher.” and you closed your eyes driving off to sleep as he realized, he was gonna marry you one day.

summary : conrad defending you from belly on your birthday
warnings : yelling, Belly being a bitch, fluff
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Conrad and you had been madly in love since you both first laid eyes on each other. Your relationship was built on a foundation of support, understanding, and kindness. But Belly, who is someone you both grew up with, seemed to have developed envy towards their connection.
The confrontation began innocently enough. At first, Belly's jabs were veiled as jokes, but the malicious intent soon became evident. Conrad's concern grew with each biting remark that spewed from Belly's mouth, his girlfriend's normally bright smile fading into a mask of hurt.
Conrad knew he had to act to protect the woman he loved, even if it meant confronting his best friend. Taking a deep breath to steady himself, he stepped forward, determination lending strength to his voice.
"Hey, Belly," he said firmly, “I think you should go home, you’re drunk.” Belly's eyes narrowed as she turned her attention towards Conrad. She could sense his seriousness and was taken aback by his willingness to challenge her.
"What why? I'm just having a little fun," Belly replied, a smug grin playing on her lips.
Conrad refused to back down. "Fun is one thing, Belly, but this is crossing a line. I won't just stand here and watch you belittle and insult Y/N. I don’t know what your problem is but I don’t like you ruining her birthday."
As Conrad spoke, he noticed the room had fallen into a hushed silence. Everyone watched their exchange with anticipation, wondering how it would unfold.
Belly's face flushed with anger, but something in her eyes held a flicker of remorse. "Oh shut up! Ever since she came into our lives i’ve been feeling like the second choice! the second option!"
Conrad's stern expression softened as he listened to Belly's unexpected admission. He understood her feelings of insecurity, realizing that perhaps he had unintentionally neglected their friendship as his relationship with you deepened. But that didn't excuse Belly's hurtful behavior.
"I understand you might feel that way, Belly, but hurting others won't fix it. You could’ve just talked to me, to us. We didn’t want you to feel like this at all.”
You walked up to Belly, grabbing her shoulder gently. "Belly, I'm sorry if I made you feel left out. I care about our friendship to-“
Belly shook her head, pushing Y/N away, “No just stop! Just stop trying to be the good person. You knew! you knew how much I liked him, Y/N!” she yelled, crying. Jeremiah went up to her, pulling her up, “Come on, let’s go. I don’t want you regretting anything.” Jeremiah said, walking out of the door, bring Belly home.
You felt Conrad’s hand on my back, “I’m sorry, baby. This was supposed to be your special day” you shook your head, turning to Conrad, you placed your hands on his cheek, “It’s okay, I totally understand where she’s coming from. Maybe we should’ve been you know.. careful” you said, looking down.
Conrad looked down at you before pulling you in, lifting your face, kissing your cheek, you felt his hand on your head, guiding you close to his chest, “Look if she was truly our friend then she would be happy for us. Don’t worry, I got you always okay? I love you so much, I’m sorry, sweetheart.” Conrad said, reassuring you — he just wanted this day to be special for you, he just wanted to be a good boyfriend. It took days for him to finish this plan and he just wouldn’t let anything ruin it, not even Belly.

pairing ; conrad fisher x reader
summary ; the three summers that connected you to conrad
warning ;
note! lover inspired 😛 i tried something new and wrote it in reader's pov or your pov, hope u like it!
⎯⎯ ୨ ୧ ⎯⎯
🩷🎀
The coastal town of cousins was alive with the sound of the waves crashing against the shore while the salty sea breeze brushes through my hair, it was the beginning of summer and I wasted no time going to the beach of cousins.
I sat there on the sand, reading cheesy and cliche romance books that twelve year old me longed for such love, which was then interrupted by a group of guys laughter.
I looked up to see three boys, one with curly hair, another with black hair and pale skin. Yet all I cared about was the boy with light eyes and messy hair.
With his messy hair and sunkissed skin, and the way the sun shone in his eyes. The way he pushed his glasses up every time it kept slipping off, or the way he runs his fingers through his hair.
I was shocked when they all walked towards me. I looked up at them confused, "Hi?"
"Hi, can you join us? we were about to play catch but we're short one person, and Conrad here was too shy to ask." The one with black hair asked, receiving a nudge in his rib.
"He thinks you're pretty! What's your name?" The curly haired one exclaimed, he seemed to be slightly younger than the other two. Red rushed to my cheeks as the two bicker in front of me.
I smiled at him, my cheeks red as roses. "I'm y/n, what about you guys?"
The three boys introduced themselves, the curly headed one as Jeremiah, the dark haired one as Steven.
Conrad, as I'd come to know him, he shared the magic of Cousins beach with me on all three summers we connected.
🧸🖼️
The summer when I turned 15, unfolded like a delicate dance between Conrad and I. Underneath the starlit sky, at beach bonfires and friendly gatherings, our eyes met in fleeting glances.
Cousins beach became a place where I visited every summer, thanks to my father and his intentions to bring some fun into the family. Conrad became my best friend since then, so did his family.
It was a battle in my mind everyday as I had developed a crush on my best friend, each day at Cousins it grows. Our feelings danced around each other with each step echoing each other's unspoken thoughts.
It was a really hot day at cousins beach and you were dying to go out and buy some ice cream. Just as you were about to call Belly to buy some, your mother stepped into your room.
"Hey honey, Conrad's downstairs, I think he wants to go to the boardwalk." She says with her warm smile that always insinuates something else.
I try to pretend annoyed and roll my eyes but my red cheeks and smile gives it away. "Stop with that look, you always do that with Conrad. I swear we're just friends, mom." I say, but my mother knew better.
"I didn't say anything, sweetie!" She says, laughing at my expense. I bid my goodbye and walked downstairs to greet Conrad.
He was there, by the living room with his tousled hair and a white tee and khaki shorts. He smiled up at me, adjusting his glasses as he walked his way to where I was.
"Hi connie, you ready to lose at all the games?" I grin, teasing him. He laughs at me as he ruffles up my hair.
"You wish, sunny." he said proudly as I swatted his hand away from my head. The nickname was something he created the day we watched the sunset together as I read him my Pride and Prejudice book.
I like that he keeps the memory close to heart the same way I do. Conrad was always thoughtful, he wasn't great at communication but he showed it in ways many couldn't.
At ring toss, Conrad was determined to win. Our tongues were stained red and blue from the slushie and snow cones we've had through the afternoon.
"Congratulations! You have won a price, which one would you like?" The guy said in a monotonous voice as Conrad finally won a game of ring toss. He thinks thoroughly before choosing the cutest little bear with a pink ribbon stitched by its ear.
He walked his way to where I stood and handed me the light brown bear with its pink ribbon. He sheepishly smiles, "Here, I got it for you."
In that moment I almost melted in a puddle of admiration. "Really? Thank you, Connie!" I said gleefully
He grins at my reaction, unbeknownst to me that he was giving me such an adoring look. "It reminded me of you, you know, with the way you always have a ribbon in your hair."
That alone made me feel all warm, Conrad is observant and he recognizes everything around him, and he noticed the ribbons in my hair.
🍒 🌅
I felt that this summer would be different. I wanted to make it different.
This was the summer I would admit to my feelings and tell Conrad, my best friend, that I was in love with him. I've read books about falling for your best friend, and I hoped it wouldn't ruin our friendship.
It was the night of the fourth of July, everyone was celebrating. Susannah hosted a lovely gathering at their house, and I had planned to confess to Conrad this summer.
Conrad was the one constant in my life, he was always by my side. His presence became a steady anchor, that makes everything in my life a little bit better.
Our group, the younger people, all went to the beach and had a little get together. Secrets were spilled, so were alcohol, and laughter was shared.
Conrad was right next to me, he had his arm over my shoulder as Steven told a funny story from the country club.
"You should've seen his face!" Steven says, and everyone laughed louder. Taylor played some music and ushered everyone to dance, and of course Steven was up in a heartbeat, inviting Taylor to dance with him.
I smiled at them, winking at Taylor. Conrad stood up and grabbed me to stand up. "Hi, dove." He said, a mere whisper.
We were so close to each other that I almost threw up, luckily I did not. "Connie, do you want to dance?" I say, eyeing him with a playful smirk on my face.
He chuckles, "I wanna talk." He said, a smile playing at his face.
It was night time, 24 minutes past nine pm of July fourth, a summer I will never forget.
"What's up, Con?" I say, brushing the sand away with my feet as I waited for him to say something.
"Look up, the stars look really captivating tonight." He says, but he wasn't even looking at the stars.
looking up, I smiled. "It really does."
"Just like you."
With that, I almost gave myself whiplash when I turned to look at him with reddened cheeks and wide eyes.
Conrad chuckles, as he reaches for my hand and threads his fingers through mine. "You know, the last few summers have been something special, hasn't it?" He pauses, looking down at our hands.
I nod, a smile forming on my face as I held onto his hand.
"Each day I spent with you I felt something more different, something that I can't quite put into words." He says, slowly inching towards me. I could feel my pulse quickening.
I sheepishly smile at him, "What do you mean, Conrad?"
He smiles, his hands coming near my face to tuck the stray piece of hair on my face. "I mean... I've fallen for you." Conrad says
His ocean eyes were staring into my soul, unknowingly our bodies were getting closer and closer.
I looked up at him, my eyebrows furrowed together. He continues, "I've fallen for you head over heals, y/n/n."
I took a deep breath about to say something when colors of red, white, and blue were in the sky.
Fireworks, I smiled. I had the biggest grin on my face as I looked at Conrad again, cupping his cheeks and pulling him into a kiss.
He was shocked at first but then quickly kisses me back, his arm entangled around my waist.
"I've loved you three summers now, Connie. And I want them all."

Fault (Part Three)
Tumblr media
“She’s gone. She’s fucking gone,” Conrad drags both hands through his hair, tugging on the strands to release any ounce of his frustrations.
“What do you mean she’s gone?” Steven frowns, watching Conrad’s movements as he paces the room.
“I mean she left, Steven,” He snaps, “Her stuff’s gone, her suitcase isn’t in Belly’s room, her keys are gone. It’s all fucking gone.”
“Okay, okay, what do we do about it?” Steven persists, “What can we do?”
“I don’t know,” Conrad shakes his head, “What the fuck is happening, Steven?”
Steven watches his normally stoic friend crumble just a little in front of him, his eyes filling with tears he won’t let fall.
“We should be happy, you know?” Conrad half-laughs, “We should be fucking happy.”
“I know,” Steven sighs, “How Jere and my sister are being is really shitty, I get it. But you can’t let that ruin things with you and (Y/n). It’s not worth it.”
Conrad falls silent, running a hand over his face.
“Get your car, go and find her, okay?” Steven says, “You need to go.”
Something switches in Conrad at the words and he nods, eyes scanning the room to find his car keys. He grabs them and stuffs them into his pocket, checking his phone to make sure there still wasn’t any text from you. He doesn’t say another word, hurrying past Steven and down the stairs.
At the base of the staircase, his brother stands, knocking into Conrad at the exact moment that he comes flying down.
“Conrad-“ Jeremiah begins, watching as Conrad reaches for the front door.
He stops in his tracks and turns around, glancing at his younger brother, “This was never about you Jere. And until you realise that, I have nothing to say to you.”
The door slams behind him and he’s hit with the harsh chill of the breeze sweeping across the driveway. It seems oddly empty without your car parked up on the far side but he fuels himself with every emotion coursing through him, his car driving away from the house before it feels like he’s taken a breath.
———
The roads are too empty as he drives, knowing there are only a single pair of headlights he’s hoping to see. He gets out of Cousins, just down the road that would take him towards the highway. And then the realisation hits. There was only one place you’d go before jumping the gun to drive home.
He indicates and turns into the gas station, parking up in front of the small storefront. Your car is parked up in the bay beside his and he feels his chest ease, pressing the heel of his hand against his heart until he notices himself relax.
It’s relatively empty inside apart from someone talking to the person working at the counter. And just above one of the short aisles, he spots the back of your head, tilted down as you’re browsing, completely oblivious to him. He walks over until he’s stood directly beside you, both of you in silence.
You’ve got two bags of crisps in your hands, trying to decide between the two, “Which one do I pick?”
Conrad stands so close beside you that his arm bumps against yours, igniting the tiniest bit of comfort back into him, “Those ones.”
He points down at one of the packets and you decide to take his word, setting down the other back onto the shelf before you turn to face him.
“Hi,” He says softly, looking down at you.
You look up, “How did you know I was here?”
“You never drive home without stopping first.”
You smile briefly, the warmth holding you for a moment, before the reality returns, “I can’t go back there Conrad.”
He watches the way your bottom lip trembles at the words and reaches out to hold you, his eyes searching until yours met his, “We don’t have to.”
You lean forward and rest your head on his chest, feeling the tension inside of you evaporate at his touch.
“Let’s go, come on,” He stretches out a hand, palm up waiting for your own.
Without a second thought, you lace your fingers with his. He walks the pair of you to the register - stopping on the way to pick up a toothbrush and toothpaste. You stop at your car on the way over and he takes your bag out of the trunk, taking it over to his own car and tossing it onto the back seats. You climb into the passenger seat and he sets a hand on your thigh when he isn’t changing gears.
It isn’t more than a couple of minutes before you reach your destination, the motel just down the street from the gas station. It was always at least half-empty and the sign at the front flickered every few seconds, buzzing in its illumination.
You pay up at the reception and the lady gives you a key to a room on the far end, Room 23. There’s a lantern above the doorframe and the numbers on the wooden door are painted pale blue, though it seems to have faded and chipped in it’s weathering. Conrad unlocks the door and both of you step inside. It’s a small room, made seemingly smaller by the dark burgundy walls that seem to draw the space inwards. The floors are wooden and the room is cold, even in the summer weather. There’s a double bed against the left wall, and a small table and chairs next to the window at the front of the room, a desk and small standing closet against the wall on the right, a bathroom at the far end where the door is slightly ajar.
“Well, this is luxury,” Conrad comments, closing the door behind the pair of you.
He walks around the room as if inspecting it, glancing into the bathroom. You walk over to the bed and sit down on the edge, your hands in your lap. Conrad turns around and his features soften, walking slowly over to you. He crouches down in front of you and holds your hands in his.
“We’re going to figure it out, okay?” He says softly, taking a deep breath as if encouraging you to breathe with him.
“They’re just so sure this is going to fail,” You whisper, “The way they spoke about you Con it’s like… it’s like they’re just expecting you to fuck up everything.”
“Okay,” Conrad nods, “And do you believe them?”
“No, God, I know it’s not true I just-“
“Okay,” He repeats, so softly, “That’s all I need.”
You let out a little laugh, “That’s it? Conrad what about them-“
“I’m not thinking about them,” He stands up slowly and you tilt your head up to look at him, his hands cupping either side of your face, “I’m thinking about you.”
Your stomach gives you the same butterflies it had when you’d first kissed Conrad, when he’d first held you in his arms and made you feel so sure that he was all you needed.
He leans down until his nose bumps yours, nudging you as if he wanted to see any glimpse of assurance in you. When your lips curl into a smile. he kisses them as if to seal it there.
“That’s my girl,” He mumbles as he pulls away from your lips.
You hum in agreement, reaching your hands up to grab at the shoulders of his shirt, pulling him down onto the top of you as you fall back onto the mattress, “Say that again.”
———
You wake up the following morning wrapped in Conrad’s arms, a welcome contrast from the cold of the room. He’s asleep beside you, his arm underneath you wrapped around your back as your head rests on his chest. You trail your fingers up his skin, towards his jaw where you lean up and press a kiss.
He groans as he awakes, tensing underneath you before relaxing into your touch.
“Good morning,” You hum, snuggling into him closer.
He grumbles something close to a response and tightens his arm around you.
“Did you sleep okay?” You ask him, drawing swirls around his chest.
Conrad hums, “It’s fucking freezing in here.”
You giggle, “Yeah the air con is definitely broken. And that window doesn’t shut properly.”
“I promise our next night away will be a little more romantic than this,” Conrad blinks his eyes awake and looks down at you, tucking an arm under his head to watch you from a better angle.
“I don’t know, I’d say it was pretty romantic,” You turn over and lean up onto your elbows, smiling at him.
He reaches a hand over and brushes the hair away from your face, his hands stopping on your neck, where a mark from the night before was darkening into a blotchy purple just beneath your jaw, “Oh god I’m sorry.”
You giggle, “Nothing that concealer won’t cover.”
Conrad smiles, “You know, I have a present for you.”
You raise your brows, “A present?”
He hums, “It’s in the pocket of my jacket, I was going to give it to you last night but it didn’t feel like the time.”
“Can I get it?” You grin, already stretching up from him as if you were about to dart from the bed.
He nods and you jump up, hurrying over to the other side of the room to get his jacket. You were dressed in his t-shirt from the night before and nothing else, it hung just around your thighs and he watches as you bend down to pick up his jacket from the chair. He’s sure, in that moment, he falls in love all over again. He watches you like you’re simply angelic. Like in the darkest moments of his life, it would still be possible for you to brighten it. He could hold you in his arms and convince himself that it would be forever. And he knows, despite every ounce of reluctance to be vulnerable he’s had before, he would do what he could to fight for you.
You pull out the small velvet pouch from his pocket and smile widely, brushing your thumb over the soft material. When you turn around, Conrad is laying with his arm folded under his head, the sheets hanging low over his waist and the skin of his chest golden in the dim morning light. He’s smiling at you lazily, softly. And you’re sure he could be everything you ever needed. That, when the younger version of yourself thought of her knight in shining armour, it was him you were thinking of. Someone just as loving, as thoughtful, as honest, as handsome. All the small somethings that could make up everything. Your heart swells and you feel yourself fall in love all over again - hoping for the same feeling every day.
“Okay can I open it now?” You ask excitedly, perching yourself on the edge of the bed beside him.
He nods, shifting himself back in the bed so that he sits back against the headboard.
You pull open the strings and look inside the small bag, pulling out a thin gold chain - one decorated with a small pendant engraved with the curve of the letter ‘C’.
“Con-“ You begin softly, feeling the lump form in your throat.
“You don’t have to say you like it if you don’t and you can always not we-“
“I love it.”
You watch him visibly relax, the worry releasing into a bright smile, “Here.”
He takes it from you and you turn around, pulling your hair to the side so that he can fix the chain around the back of your neck. His fingers brush gently over the skin and he presses a soft kiss there before you turn back to face him.
His initial sits perfectly over your chest, over the material of his t-shirt. His.
“I know it might feel early to say it, but I think I’d be stupid not to,” Conrad lets out a laugh, “I love you.”
“I love you too,” You say the words so quickly after him that it’s as if they fit seamlessly together.
He grins widely, pulling you into him.
All you’d ever need.
———
You both shower and get changed - Conrad borrowing back the one t-shirt of his you’d packed in with your things. It’s only then that you check your phone.
Laurel: Just let us know that you’re safe
Susannah: Is Conrad with you honey? I don’t want you to be on your own
You type back a response to Laurel and send it over, telling her that you were okay and that you were sorry. You reply to Susannah telling her Conrad had found you last night. They both reply almost instantly with their evident relief.
There was another notification that a message had come through from Belly but it had been deleted before you got a chance to read it.
“Ready to go darling?” You glance up and Conrad is stood in the doorway of the bathroom, running a hand through his hair.
“Your Mom and Laurel were asking after us,” You mention, picking your bag up from the bed beside you.
“Yeah?” Conrad walks over and takes the bag from your hand without a second thought, “What did you tell them?”
“That we were together and we were both okay,” You reply, following him out of the room.
“Does that mean we don’t have to go back now?” He jokes, glancing back to wait for you, reaching out a hand for you to take.
“Yeah, lets just never go back, we’ve already said we could,” You smile, ducking under his arm so that he can wrap it around your shoulders.
You interlock your fingers with his arm around you, brushing your thumb over the soft skin. Conrad hums in agreement and pulls you into him a little, kissing the top of your head quickly.
As the two of you steer towards the car, you both stop in your tracks.
Jeremiah’s truck, parked two spots down from Conrad’s - Belly, Jeremiah and Steven stood leaning against the hood. They all stand up straighter when they see you.
“What are you doing here?” Conrad speaks harshly, coldly.
“Conrad,” Jeremiah responds as is he’s instantly hoping it will calm the situation down, “We wanted to speak to you. To both of you.”
“You’re not starting this again, okay? I’m not having you argue with us until we-“
“We’re not here to argue with you,” Steven interjects, glancing at the two beside him, “We just wanted to sort things out.”
You glance over at Belly and your hand slips down from Conrad’s, yours falling down at your side. She looks at you and her brows furrow as if with sympathy, offering you a small smile that you somewhat return. Conrad’s arm moves away from your shoulders but his fingers bump yours as soon as they’re at his side, as if reminding you he was still there. You see Belly swallow the lump in her throat.
“Well, talk,” Conrad shrugs, “I didn’t pay for a late checkout so can we hurry this shit along.”
“We were in the wrong last night,” Jeremiah begins, glancing between the two of you, “We didn’t mean for it to come across the way it did. (Y/N) we were just looking out for you, and we were looking at this all wrong. Conrad clearly cares about you, and we were wrong for thinking that it was anything less than that.”
Conrad is unmoving, like he’s happy to completely ignore what’s being said.
“If you two want to be together, that’s not our place to get involved. We should be happy for you,” Jeremiah glances at you, “And we are.”
“Okay,” Conrad shrugs, “And you?”
His attention turns to Belly.
“I mean, Jere can say we all he wants but what do you want to say?” He persists, “(Y/N)’s meant to be your best friend Belly, did you forget that?”
Part of you almost expects yourself to stop him - like you should be telling him it was too far, or you didn’t want to upset her, or you didn’t want to make things worse. But he was right. And it needed to be said, when you felt like you couldn’t say it yourself.
“I’m sorry,” Belly’s voice cracks over the words and the loyalist in your heart reaches out for her, “I never meant for it to get like this. I never- I never knew how you felt about Conrad, and I hate myself for not realising it sooner, and for not letting you feel like you could tell me how you felt. But it won’t be like that now, I promise. I don’t want you to have to hide anything from us any more.”
You feel a tension in your chest settle and your shoulders relax, Conrad’s hand brushing yours again with how close the two of you stood together.
“Thank you,” You half-whisper, offering her your most sincere smile.
“Alright,” Steven clasps his hands together, “We good?”
You look at Belly and for the first time in days feel like you’re actually looking at your best friend, “We’re good.”
“Okay let’s get out of here, please,” Steven encourages, clasping Jere and Belly on the shoulders either side of him, “We’ll see you guys at home?”
“Yeah, we’ll be right behind you,” Conrad nods, watching as the three of them turn around to pile into the car.
They drive off to leave the two of you stood in your own company once again. Conrad turns to you and you can see the tension still caught between his features.
“Are you happy?” He says softly, his hand reaching out to squeeze yours.
You nod, “I am.”
He relaxes almost instantly, like he needed any confirmation from you before he could react. His fingertips reach out to you, brushing over the necklace on your chest, his thumb pressing the C pendant.
“Ready to go home?”
You nod again.
He wraps an arm around you and picks up your bag from the floor, squeezing you tightly.
———
The house feels lighter when you return, like it’s flooded with relief. You’d stopped on the way to pick up your car from the gas station, driven the rest of the way following behind Conrad - who had made sure you were in his rear view mirrors for the whole way home.
You both step into the house to the smell of baking and sweetness and some level of mayhem.
“What’s going on?” You frown, walking through to the kitchen.
“We thought we’d make muffins,” Belly smiles, “Although we were hoping they’d be done by the time you got home.”
You laugh, “Yeah, sorry, maybe I should’ve driven a bit slower.”
Belly laughs, “It’s our fault. Steven refused to help and Jeremiah can’t follow instructions.”
“I wouldn’t trust them to do it anyway,” You reply, “Belly baking has always been the best.”
Conrad walks through after you and he stops quickly, “Sorry, I’m not interrupting am I?”
You go to respond but the words catch on your tongue.
“Of course not!” Belly beams, “Just waiting for the muffins to bake.”
Conrad nods, “As long as they’re better than the ones you made at Christmas.”
“That was one bad batch!” Belly exclaims, waving the spatula in his direction.
He raises his hands in defence, “I said what I said.”
They both laugh and for a moment you feel like you need to capture it, like it was a bit of normalcy you’d been missing for far too long. Conrad glances at you and smiles and you smile too, both sharing in the relief.
“These will be ready in five, the boys are out by the pool if you want to join us out there,” Belly offers.
You nod, “Yeah, sure, let me just get changed.”
You walk out and Conrad follows after you, taking your bag up the stairs behind you. When the two of you reach the top, you both stop in your tracks.
“Am I supposed to stay with you or with Belly?”
Conrad laughs, “You’re not supposed to do anything, it’s up to you.”
“But will she be mad at me if I don’t stay with her? Or is it weird if I don’t stay with the guy I’m seeing?” You drag a hand through your hair.
He shakes his head, smiling at you, “(Y/n) don’t overthink it. It’s just a bed to stay in.”
You nod, Conrad spoke to calmly and softly when he spoke to you that it made you certain that you could believe him, every single time.
“Not to skew your decision or anything but I would obviously prefer if you stayed with me.”
You roll your eyes, “Of course you would Con.”
You step past him in the direction of your room and he follows after you, hand reaching out to grab your waist. You giggle as the two of you stumble into the comfort of his room and he closes the door behind you.
“So, I’ve either got navy, or this blue one, or red,” You hold up three bikinis in your hand and Conrad raises his brows, “Which one?”
He furrows his brows as if he’s deciding before he says, “Blue.”
“Blue it is,” You return, turning around so that you can start getting changed.
Conrad flops down onto the bed and leans onto his elbows, watching you.
“Stop staring,” You turn around and narrow your eyes at him, “Can you tie this at the back for me?”
You walk backwards until you’re at the bed and he sits up straighter so that he can tie the elasticated strings at the back of your neck, his fingers delicate over your skin. When he’s done, he runs his hands over your shoulders, leaning in so he can press a kiss to your back.
You turn around in his arms and look down at where he sits, running your hands through his hair, “I’ll meet you downstairs.”
He hums in agreement and flutters his eyes closed at your touch, like he wants to lean up into it.
“Keep it in your pants, Fisher,” You grin, grabbing your towel, phone and book from the side and heading back out of the room.
When you get back downstairs, Belly is just taking the muffins out of the oven, and she turns around to catch your eyeline as she sets them down on the counter.
“Ooh they look good,” You smile, “And they smell good too.”
She grins up at you but her expression falters for just a second, her smile returning a moment later. Though, it had disappeared for just long enough for you to notice the light slip from her eyes momentarily.
“Did Conrad get you that?” She gestures towards your pendant.
Your hand flies to the necklace as if you’d forgotten it was there, brushing over the gold, “Oh, um, yeah, he gave it to me this morning.”
“It’s beautiful,” She says softly, “I’m surprised he can be so romantic.”
You laugh a little, trying to force the awkwardness from your lungs, “Yeah I was surprised too.”
“I don’t want you to-“ Belly shakes her head, “I don’t want you to feel like you can’t tell me things. Like, I want you to feel like we can still talk about boyfriend stuff, you know? I mean, if you want to.”
You nod, “Come on, if I can’t talk to you about it I can’t talk to anyone.”
She laughs, looking down to start pulling the muffins from their tray, “So Cameron swiped up on my story a couple of days ago.”
“What?” You gasp, “Cam Cameron?!”
She laughs and her eyes crease in the way they do when they’re at their brightest, “Yeah it’s weird right? I don’t really know what he’s thinking is going to happen but-“
“Oh come on, the boy was head over heels for you,” You scoff, “I think I know exactly what he’s thinking.”
She laughs again and both of you settle into silence, smiling at each other like you hadn’t seen each other in forever.
“Why don’t you give him a second chance? He was sweet.”
Her eyes drift outside to where Jeremiah is laying across one of the loungers, “Yeah, maybe.”
“Jere?!” You exclaim, eyes wide, “Wh-“
You’re stopped as Conrad walks into the room, dressed only in a pair of swim shorts, “What about him?”
You glance at him and your lips part as if you’re about to speak but you stop yourself, “None of your business Fisher.”
He raises his hands in defence and steps past you, squeezing your hip as he goes behind you, “Forget I asked.”
You glance back to Belly and she mouths a silent thank you.
“You coming?” Conrad looks back at you before he steps outside.
You nod, “Yeah,” Turning back to Belly, you say, “This conversation isn’t done, okay? We have a lot to talk about.”
She giggles and nods, a flurrying blush on her cheeks, “Okay, okay.”
“What was that about?” Conrad asks you as the two of you step outside, him following close behind you.
“I’m not telling you,” You shake your head, “Girl code, Conrad, you wouldn’t understand.”
“You know things were easier when you two weren’t friends,” He points out, jokingly, and you jab him in the side as a ‘don’t even mention it’.
You walk over to the other two boys and set your things down on the lounger next to Jeremiah, watching as he opens his eyes at the sound of you near him.
“Hey,” He says, leaning up onto his elbows, “We were waiting for you so we could start a volleyball game, do you want to play?”
“Of course I do,” You grin, “Come on Con.”
You look back at him as he flops down onto the lounger the other side of you, closing his eyes.
“Are you shutting down?”
He hums in agreement, his eyes still softly closed.
“Alright Jere, me and you against Belly and Steven,” You encourage, “Who needs Conrad?”
He squints his eyes open and cocks a brow at you, “Excuse me?”
You grin and hurry off to the pool where Jeremiah and Steven have both jumped in, both of them yelling over to Belly to join them too. Conrad leans up onto his elbows and watches you as you push yourself off from the side and into the water, swimming over to Jeremiah’s side. He smiles, thankful for the moments of normalcy amongst a hectic few days. You were back with your friends, the people that had brought you and Conrad together in the first place. And it was a relief that you weren’t losing them anymore. His eyes drift to Jeremiah as the two of you pass the ball between each other and he wonders for a moment what is going through his brother’s head. Did he still have feelings for you? Had they already gone away?
But then Conrad looks at you again and you’re throwing your head back laughing at something Steven had said. And he knows then he has nothing to ever be afraid of. Whoever it was, whatever feelings were there, it was his initial still around your neck, his heart you’d go back to. And the jealousy he thought he’d always have just seems to disappear. Maybe that’s how it was supposed to be.
You’re in the water with the others for a while, you and Jere winning the first game, Belly and Steven winning the next, and you and Jere taking victory on the last one. After an over-the-top celebration just to really force your win, you climb out of the water and walk over to Conrad, where he’s laying with his attention tucked into the pages of your book, eyes scanning the words of the page.
When you’re stood over him, blocking the sun, he glances up.
“Did you win?” He asks, setting the book down beside him, double checking that he hadn’t lost your page.
“You weren’t watching?” You gasp, “I should be offended.”
“I saw the first game, but you keep talking about this book and I wanted to know what all the fuss was about,” He comments, sitting up a little on the lounger so that you can sit down on the edge beside him.
“It’s good right?” You grin, “I knew you’d like it.”
“I’ll read it when you’re done,” He says, hiding the hints of a smile.
“We can just read it together,” You encourage, “I’m not far into it.”
“Alright enough of the couples shit, you coming?” Steven climbs out of the pool and the other two follow after him.
“Yeah, we’ll be there now,” You nod, standing back up.
“We’ll be where?” Conrad frowns.
“Lunch!”
You outstretch a hand for him to take and he groans, stepping off of the lounger to follow you with his hand locked in yours.
———
After a full day at the pool, Jeremiah suggests that you all have a movie night and order a takeaway, since Laurel and Susannah were out tonight. You oblige and they settle on ordering pizza. Steven had found a case of beer left over from the party and you were all in the kitchen waiting for the door to ring to tell you the pizza was here.
“I just think you can’t go wrong with a cheesy pizza you know?” Jeremiah shrugs, taking a sip from the beer bottle in his hand.
“But that’s just boring, it’s not a pizza without toppings!” Steven exclaims, stood on the adjacent side of the island to Jeremiah.
Belly was stood next to the younger Fisher brother and you’d made a point of widening your eyes at her when she had. She’d blushed and looked away from you.
“Of course it’s still a pizza!” Belly retorts, “You’re just weird.”
“Is Steven going on his pizza rant again?” Conrad comments, walking through into the kitchen.
“I just think-“
The doorbell rings to cut him off and Jeremiah hurries over to answer the door. Belly mentions that she’ll set up the movie and Steven follows her with the crate of beer.
“You okay babe?” You ask Conrad, turning around to him.
He puts his hands on either side of his hips and takes a slow step towards you, his hair falling over his forehead and making him look even more youthful.
“So, I love seeing you back with these guys, and it’s obviously a lot better that they don’t hate us anymore,” He speaks slowly, “But I-“
“You want it to be just us two?”
He smiles a little, “I feel like I haven’t seen you all day, I miss you.”
You chuckle, “You miss me?”
“I think I’ve got too used to it being just us,” He laughs a little, placing his hands onto your waist, “Can we go back to that?”
“Okay, we eat pizza, we watch whatever film Belly chooses, and then we go to bed,” You suggest, “We can watch a film together, read that book, whatever you want.”
“Whatever I want?” He cocks a brow.
“Keep it in your pants!” You gasp, grabbing his hand and pulling him with you into the lounge.
He chuckles and follows in after you, his hand not leaving yours.
“Okay, okay, make room for the couple,” Steven grins at the two of you, shuffling over on the couch so that there’s room for you two to sit together.
You flop down onto the elongated side of the couch, legs stretched over the leg rest as Conrad grabs a plate and piles a few slices on.
He drops down beside you and you prop yourself up beside him as he holds the plate out for you.
Belly starts the film and Jere flicks off the light, the two of them taking places on the other end of the couch.
You pause for a moment and breathe it all in. Conrad beside you, all of your other favorite people to keep you company too. It was what you wanted. The simplicity of it all. And it really feels like this could work. You’re sure of it then more than ever.
———
You’re not sure what time it is when your eyes blink open. The TV is turned onto standby, the pizza boxes cleared from the table, the lights in the room reduced to a single lamp next to the couch. Conrad is beneath you, his arm wrapped around your torso, your head resting on his chest, legs tangled together.
“Con,” You whisper, leaning up onto your elbow to look down at him.
His eyes are closed and you bring up your hand to brush over the hair falling over his forehead. He hums at the contact, his nose scrunching softly as he wakes.
“I think we fell asleep,” You say quietly, trailing your fingers down his cheek.
He frowns a little and glances around the empty room, shifting his other arm to wrap around your waist and pull you over the top of him. You giggle and rest your legs on either side of him, your hands settling on his chest.
“So are you happier now?” Conrad asks, his hands strong on your waist, his words still laced a little with fatigue.
You nod your head in the dim room, smiling down at him, “Everything felt normal today.”
Conrad smiles back, “How about a date tomorrow night? We’ll go somewhere nice, just us two.”
You grin, “Somewhere nice? Like back to the motel?”
He chuckles deeply and you feel it rumble in his chest, “No, nicer than the motel.”
You hum and dip your head down to press a kiss to his jaw, “I don’t know, I kind of liked it, especially last night.”
He tightens his grip on your waist, “Well, we’re the only ones here…”

Tumblr media
You don't remember the exact moment you fell for Conrad Fisher, maybe it was all those years ago when your family had moved in a beach house for summer in Cousins after your dad's knee surgery as the doctor had suggested that fresh air and change in scenery would do wonders for his recovery. You and your sister were playing by the huge swimming pool in the backyard when your mom had called you both over and handed you two freshly baked boxes of chocolate chip cookies that were to be given to your new neighbors, The Fishers and The Conklins.
You had nervously knocked at the Fisher's front door and a boy about your age had answered it, his eyes were the most beautiful, sublime shade of blue you've ever seen reminding you of the ocean from your bedroom window, his smile when he introduced himself, welcoming you and your sister to the neighborhood made your heart skip a beat and your nerves dissipate as you and your sister thanked him, introducing yourselves.
When you walked out of the Fishers’ front gate, waving at Conrad, your heart knew that it was the beginning of something special between you both.
At Conklins’ you were greeted by a beautiful woman who introduced herself as Laurel and a girl who was looking at you and your sister curiously from behind her mother and was the same age as your sister was her daughter, Isabel or Belly.
Another year, another summer at Cousins, your dad was recovering very well, all thanks to the ocean breeze, sun, sand and sea along with the love and care of his family, friends and neighbors. The Fishers and The Conklins have been a huge support to you and your family, Susannah and Laurel were there for your parents countless times while Conrad, Jeremiah and Belly helped you and your sister settle in with them right away.
You had gotten a part time summer job at the clubhouse as a lifeguard, same as Jeremiah and you're currently on your shift, keeping an eye out at the swimming pool and then focusing back on the book in your hand. When you look up again, you spot Steven jump over the snack bar where he was working and rush over to the other side of the pool where Conrad, Belly and Taylor had just walked in, Conrad waves at you and you wave back, Belly gives you a small wave which you return and Taylor smiles at you, you smile back and they then turn to wave at Jeremiah as Steven reaches the group.
Taylor laughs as Steven very animatedly narrates her something, both walking back to the snack bar while Belly and Conrad prepare for a dip in the pool, book momentarily forgotten in your lap, you watch as Conrad pulls his shirt over his head and you sigh, resting your chin in the palm of your hand but your daydreaming doesn't last long as a commotion in the pool has you and Jeremiah getting down from your chairs and intervene to restore everything back to normal.
Conrad ducks laughing as Belly flicks some water at him, dark brown locks of his hair sticking to his forehead, the alluring blue hues of his eyes sparkle in the afternoon sun and you sigh again, pressing your fist close to your heart.
“So when are you going to tell my brother that you've been in love with him since forever?” Jeremiah speaks up and when you look at the youngest Fisher, his arms are crossed upon his chest, his eyebrows are quirked up in amusement.
“And here we go again.” You shake your head and then start walking back to your chair when your sister joins you both.
“Since the time we showed up at your door with cookies, Jere. Conrad opened the door, one look at his gorgeous blue eyes and warm smile, she was a goner!”
“When did you get here?” You ask.
“Just now? With Conrad, Belly and Taylor.
I stayed back for a while to text mum for the snacks we would need for our Disney movie night.” She answers, holding up her phone to show you the list of snacks.
“Please tell me we are not watching Tangled AGAIN?” Jeremiah quips in.
“Flynn Ryder Supremacy!!” You and your sister both answer at the same time as Jeremiah groans making you both laugh.
“No but seriously sis, when are you going to tell Connie how you feel?” Your sister changes the subject again.
“Exactly. What are you waiting for? For him to bring a girl home from college for the holidays and announce their engagement? Or for him to get married to her and announce that they are expecting their first child?” Jeremiah adds, agreeing to what your sister just said.
“You guys..” You sigh. It's not that you never had the thought about telling Conrad how you really feel for him, you did, half of your days were spent thinking about Conrad and how would it really be if you ever told him about your feelings? Would he smile and then pull you in for a passionate kiss or would you mess up and end up ruining your friendship?
“It's.. it's not easy okay? What if I tell him how I really feel and he doesn't feel the same way? It would ruin our friendship and that's the last thing I want.”
“Sis, I understand. It's always scary to open up your heart to someone, especially when you've been friends for so long. There is a chance that Conrad might not reciprocate, there is a chance that it might ruin your friendship but there's also a chance that he might reciprocate, a chance that your friendship might evolve into something beautiful, but if you don't tell him how you feel, you'll have nothing but regrets, what-if's and a missed shot at true love.” Your sister replies, gently clasping your hand in hers.
“Hey, I thought I was the wiser one. When did you grow up so much?”
“Fyi, contrary to what you think dearest sister, I am always the wiser one, duh. Also, I've been learning from the best.”
You smile and hug your sister tight, who hugs you back as tightly.
“Room for one more?” Jeremiah asks.
Smiling, you both open your arms for him to join in the hug and he does, happily throwing his arms around you and your sister.
“Now I need to tell Connie how I feel.”
“Tell me what?”
A deep voice that you would recognize even in your dreams, Conrad stands behind you, a towel on his shoulder as he looks between the three of you.
“To tell you that.. that we'll be watching Tangled at the disney movie night again.” Jeremiah saves you at the right moment and you quietly mouth him a thank you to which he responds with a subtle wink.
“Oh, that's cool. I like Tangled.” Conrad shrugs.
“Et tu, Brute?” Jeremiah clutches his chest dramatically making you all laugh.
Still laughing at his brother's antics, Conrad shakes his head and then looks at you, “I was thinking, if you are free then maybe we could go for a swim.”
You look at your watch, “Yeah sure, my shift ends in five minutes. Let me just change out of my lifeguard uniform and then I'll join you.”
“Cool.”
Your sister clears her throat, “We too have be somewhere, don't we Jere?”
“Yeah, I have a few hours of my shift left so I'll be going back to my chair.”
“And I'll go find Belly and Taylor.”
“Have fun kids.” Jeremiah salutes you both and then walks off with your sister.
You change out of your uniform and since you are already wearing your bikini underneath, it's even quicker. You untie your hair, give them a little shake as you take a last look at yourself in the mirror and then take a deep breath to calm the butterflies fluttering in your stomach before walking out to meet Conrad by the pool, whose eyes widen and jaw drops as he takes you in, his eyes lingering on your curves.
“I.. Wow. Is that new?” He asks, breaking out of his trance, referring to your burnt orange high waisted bikini.
“Oh.. this old thing? No, I brought it last summer just.. never had the chance to wear it.” You reply shyly, tucking a lock of hair behind your ear.
“I.. you.. Wow. You look..”
Last summer when you had picked up the bikini from the rack to try it on, you instantly fell in love with it, for it beautifully accentuates your curves and not to mention, your sister wouldn't leave you alone till you brought the swimsuit.
Now that you've left Conrad Fisher speechless, you're so fucking glad that you tried on the bikini, that your sister pestered you to buy it and that you decided to wear it this morning.
“You.. You look stunning! I love the color on you.” Conrad says as he steps a bit closer, his sapphire eyes darken precisely to a shade of the ocean under a night sky.
“Thank you Connie.” You reply, the tips of your ears turning pink.
“So, the last one to reach the other side of the pool is a rotten egg?” He then looks at you with pure mischief, amusement dancing in his blue eyes.
“Oh you're so on, Fisher!”
The two of you dived into the pool together, trying to out-race each other. It's something you both have been doing every summer since you were kids and you had first arrived at Cousins. Jeremiah and your sister used to be the referees but you both are competitive and the loser has to buy winner ice-cream for the rest of the summer, so the stakes are even higher with free ice-cream which resulted in a fighting match and ended in you both sulking and not talking to each other.
It made you and Conrad miserable, not to mention Jeremiah and Your sister had to be your messengers when you both weren't talking and they were sick of it, so they quit and you both then decided to dial down the competitiveness but the loser still had to buy winner ice-cream for the rest of the summer and you and Conrad still squabble over who out-raced whom.
You both swam to the other side of the pool together, finishing neck to neck and agree to buy each other ice-cream, as you and Conrad dry off, you two trade stories about college, your classes, the friends you've made and agreeing on the fact that the friendships you've both formed in Cousins will always be special.
Strands of his wet, dark brown hair fall on his forehead, obstructing your view of his eyes and before you can stop yourself, you are already pushing back the locks of his hair so you can look into his eyes.
“Have I ever told you that your eyes are the most beautiful shade of blue I've ever seen? It reminds me of the ocean. Everytime you pull your hair down, I want to brush them away because.. I want to get lost in those eyes, Connie.”
Sometimes when I look into your eyes,
I pretend you're mine, all the damn time.
Conrad steps closer to you, his hand cupping the side of your face and his thumb caressing your cheek gently.
“No you haven't, but the way you look at me tells me everything.”
An enormous splash of water drenches you both, breaking the tender moment between you two as a twelve year old resurfaces and apologizes for cannonballing into the pool too hard.
“So ice-cream?” Conrad laughs, wiping off water from his face, his hand now entwined with yours.
“Yess ice-cream!” You respond excitedly, with a child-like gleam in your eyes and Conrad laughs again as he leads you out of the pool area.
You all had worked and planned your butts off for the 70’s themed party, a last hurrah at the Fisher's beach house, a homage to Susannah. Initially, it was Belly's idea and Conrad had agreed to it but you all wanted to give the beloved beach house a proper goodbye.
You had chosen black velvet bell bottoms paired with a red bohemian print front tie top that had cute bell sleeves, hoop earrings and chunky heels while your sister had opted for a sparkly silver dress with a matching headband, cuff bracelets and ankle length boots. She had done both hers and yours makeup with holographic eyeliners, lots of glitter and gems for the eyes and classic red lips. You looked beautiful, you felt beautiful and you got compliments the minute you walked in through the door.
You spot Conrad standing by the drinks counter with Steven and he waves at you as he sees you, picking up two beers and making his way through the crowd to you.
“Wow.. you look..” He tries, never once taking his eyes off you.
Was Conrad Fisher speechless again? This is the second time! Do you have that effect on him?
Your heart skips a beat as you reply, “I just hope I'm on theme.”
“You are, you look beautiful.” Conrad speaks as he looks into your eyes.
“Thanks Connie.” You blush, unable to hold eye contact.
Steven calls you both over for photos, you strike a cute pose, your fingers held up to the left side of your face in a v sign and a bright smile, your other arm around Conrad while his arm is around your waist, the warmth of his skin against yours making your heart pound in your chest.
The camera goes off with a bright white flash and you both go over to Steven to see the photo, it takes a few moments to develop and when it does, Steven has the biggest grin on his face as he hands the photograph to you both.
It's a very cute picture, you posing for the camera while Conrad looks at you adoringly, not at the camera where he should be looking but at you, warmth spreads in every fiber of your body as you realize that that's exactly how you look at him too, not to mention, you also noticed how he had brushed his hair back today and wasn't pulling it down like he always did. The crimson on your cheek darkens when you realize that he did it for you because you like his hair brushed back so you can look into his eyes.
“What do we have here?” Your sister comes up from behind you, pulling the polaroid from your grasp before you can stop her and Jere ofcourse is right behind her, the two being of the same age and are as thick as thieves.
“Ooooh. This is such a romantic picture, isn't it Jere?” Your sister's eyes sparkle with fondness and mischief as she looks at the polaroid.
“It is. The way Connie's looking at her, oof.” Jeremiah nods cutely, his golden brown curls swishing across his forehead.
“I know right? This is exactly what they call The Look Of Love.”
“Okay you goofs, that belongs to us.” Conrad takes the polaroid back from your sister and Jeremiah, “by the way, I heard Skye asking Cam that they are confused as to what they should watch at the next Disney movie night, Tangled Or Frozen?”
“Frozen obviously, there's no way I'm watching Tangled again!” Jeremiah crosses his arms across his chest.
“How dare you? I'm going to tell Skye that we are watching Tangled!” Your sister glares at Jeremiah and then stomps off to find Syke and Cam.
“Oh no, you don't!” Jere follows her.
Conrad gives you the photograph, his hand closing around yours as he pulls you closer to himself and you gasp softly from the sudden proximity.
“Should we head out to get some fresh air?” He asks, handing you one of the beers.
“Yeah, fresh air sounds great!” You smile.
Your hand entwined with Conrad's, you both walk out to the pool area and sit side by side, dipping your feet in water. The party rages on inside and while you enjoyed it immensely, it's nice to take a break and listen to your thoughts again. Nostalgia of every summer that you've spent here ever since moving to Cousins when you were kids washes over you and you blink back tears, Conrad wraps an arm around you, pulling you closer and you rest your head on his shoulder.
“I miss Susannah.”
“Me too.”
“Remember when she threw us a welcome party?” You look up at Conrad, smiling and his lips curl upwards in a smile at the memory.
“You mean the party where you tried to convince us that pizza tastes better with peanut butter on top?” He mimes barfing.
“Hey, that was one time! Besides, you were the very first one to try it out.” You hit him playfully in the chest, laughing.
“Yeah well, maybe because I've never been able to say no to you, also your puppy eyes are deadly!” Conrad looks down at you adoringly, his blue eyes soft as he tucks a lock of hair behind your ear.
You blush, looking down at your lap and then look back at him again.
“God, you're so beautiful.” Conrad whispers as he cups your face, his thumb gently caressing your cheek, moonlight washing over you both and you close your eyes, giving into the warmth of his touch.
“That day at the pool, you said that my eyes are the most beautiful shade of blue you've ever seen and that you want to get lost in them. What if I say that every time I look into your eyes, I'm unable to look anywhere else, I'm lost in your beautiful eyes. What if I say that every time I look at you, my heart feels as if it'd beat out of my chest. What if I say that every time when you walk in through the door, all I want to do is take you in my arms, kiss you and tell you how incredibly lucky I am to have you in my life and that everytime you leave after summer's over, a piece of my heart goes with you.”
“Connie..” You speak, your heart beating a mile per minute.
“If I don't tell you how I feel tonight, I might never have the chance to do so. I love you, most ardently, I am in love with you and I never wish to be parted from you from this day on.” Conrad says, looking into your eyes, holding both of your hands in his and tears pool your eyes realizing that he just quoted your most favourite, timeless declaration of love from your most favourite book.
You remember talking his ear off about your love for Pride and Prejudice, about Elizabeth and Darcy being the OG enemies to lovers during the long summer afternoons when you both would be relaxing by the poolside with chilled glasses of lemonade, sometimes you would read to him too and Conrad had gifted you a hardcover edition of Pride and Prejudice with illustrations on your birthday.
It's one of your most special gifts and one of your most prized possessions till date.
You take a deep, calming breath, ready to bare your heart to him as well.
“My life has never been the same ever since I walked up to your front door with cookies and you answered the door with your serene blue eyes and your warm smile that reached up to them, the way my heart skips a beat when you hold me close everytime we watch horror movies, the way I want to kiss you everytime you get chocolate on your nose from your favorite donuts and everytime I leave after summer's over, a piece of my heart stays with you. I love you, I love you too, Conrad Fisher.”
You both look into each other's eyes for a few moments letting the words, the feelings sink in, before inching closer. When his lips touch yours, you melt into him, your arms wrapping around his shoulders while his wrap around your waist pulling you closer. The kiss is soft, sweet, full of promises and you both part with a sigh before Conrad kisses you again, a little passionate this time.
“I love you Connie.”
“I love you more.”
“So boyfriend, should we head inside? I wanna dance and would love do so with your arms around me.” You ask, pressing a kiss to his lips before getting up and pulling him up as well.
“Would love to girlfriend, just give me a few more minutes because I'm not done kissing you yet.” Conrad smiles before leaning in to kiss you again.
