Which is your hardest, and why? I have always found that these are some of the hardest for students to tackle. In my classes, I often go back to the good ol' simple formats of using boxes and simple shapes to help students understand how to 'construct' and not just Observe and draw. I've come across very good artists who must have reference and also artists who can create from the mine itself. Draw Every Day - Sketch #17 Video Bonus: “Sacrebleu Mon Crayon”. This little Film Noir is the result of my first attempt at filming myself while drawing. I was so amused by the result I felt impelled to finally download some video editing software so I could share it and start making some of the moving visual ideas I’ve had recently. I did some quick research and settled on Filmora9 by Wondershare. After an afternoon playing with it capabilities I purchased the watermark free version. It was so easy and powerful. Fantastic for making really great movies at a low price point. In order to share the five minutes of shot video, I very easily chopped the single shot into segments that I could speed up as needed and get 4 minutes and 59 seconds down to 57 seconds with royalty free music, transitions and titles. Its only been a day, so I’m sure I’ll find stuff that bugs me, but for now, I have new handy little friend. I could only squeeze in 10 minutes to draw on Wednesday, and in keeping with my promise to myself to post whatever I can do, here are some preliminary construction lines of the model from sketch #15, in a different pose. I’m also including a little peek into my studio and set-up. I’m using an old sawhorse easel my father-in-law Les gave me, with my old Masonite drawing board from college. This is a big improvement over holding the board on my knee with my left hand. Which I had been doing the last two weeks. Draw Every Day - Sketch #31: “In Progress No. 2D”. In further catching up, here’s my sketch from January 31st. I wrapped up last month with more leaf and branch sketching practice. I WAS in the mood for drawing leaves this time and really got into it. My focus was towards making flowing complimentary shapes, and also controlling shading and line weight so it was detailed, but not too busy, and didn’t compete with the foreground characters.
