MOGAI BHM- Day 1!
Happy BHM! To celebrate the first day of Black History Month, I figured I’d make my first post about the history of BHM itself! i highly recommend you read the whole post, but if you do genuinely struggle with reading very long posts, I will have a summary/conclusion at the end!
Carter G. Woodson-
Tumblr media
[Image ID: A black-and-white, portrait-style photograph of Carter G. Woodson. He is thin, Black with a medium-dark skin tone, and is wearing a black suit jacket over a white button-up collared shirt with a necktie that is grey with small white polka dots. He is wearing his hair in corn rows, and has a somewhat solemn expression on his face. End ID.]
The history of Black History Month would be entirely incomplete without discussing Carter G. Woodson! Woodson never in his lifetime got to see official establishments and celebrations of BHM, but he is nevertheless integral to its history.
Carter G. Woodson was born in 1875. Growing up, he was quite poor, and his schooling was very limited- he was mostly self taught. He taught himself basic subjects, and he graduated from high school only two years after entering. He worked in West Virginian coal mines to earn additional income for his family.
From an early age, Woodson was interested in teaching and history. Before getting his bachelors degree in literature from Kentucky’s Berea College, he worked as both a teacher and a school principal, and after graduating with his bachelor’s degree, he went on to travel Europe and Asia before returning to America to earn a master’s degree from the University of Chicago, and he then became the second Black American to ever attend and graduate from Harvard University. Eventually, he became the Dean of the College of Arts and Sciences at Howard University, an HBCU!
The ASNLH, ‘N*gro History Week’, And More
Tumblr media
[Image ID: A newspaper clip from 1976. The newspaper clip has three columns of content- the right and left columns are text, and the central column is a picture of Carter G. Woodson’s face with his name as a caption. The title of the article is written across the whole top of the clipping and it reads: “Carter Woodson: Father Of Black History Month In U.S.” The text in both columns reads:
“Editor’s Note: Today marks the beginning of Black History Month, which continues through Feb. 29. In observance of this period, we think it appropriate to begin by running this article by Howard James Jones, who writes a column entitled, “Black Folk In American Civilization”, which runs in the Daily World.
February is celebrated as Black History Month. It received this designation as a result of the dream of one man who was able to work with a number of other persons to make this dream a reality. This seer was that he could do research for his dissertation at the Library of Congress. In 1909, he began teaching French, Spanish, English, and History in the public schools of the District of Columbia. In 1912, his dissertation, “The Disruption of Virginia”, was accepted by Harvard and he was awarded the degree of Doctor of Philosophy. Afterwards, he served as Dean of The School of Liberal Arts at Howard University, but left because he did not agree with certain administration policies. He eventually gave up teaching altogether for this same reason.”
End ID.]
In the summer of 1915, Woodson attended an event which celebrated the 50th anniversary of emancipation. While the event was wildly popular and successful, it also coincided with Woodson being barred from conferences at the AHA, the American History Association. He realized that his goal of celebrating and recording Black history could not be achieved simply working within the framework of the AHA, so in 1915, he founded the Association for the Study of N*gro Life and History, or the ASNLH, which still exists today under the name the Association for the Study of African American Life and History, ASALH.
In 1916, he founded the Journal of N*gro History, which to this day remains a published journal under the name the Journal of African American History. The award-winning journal highlights stories from Black history and offers book reviews as well.
Woodson’s fraternity brothers sided with him when they helped him found N*gro History and Literature Week, later renamed N*gro Achievement Week, in 1924. While it had a significant impact, Woodson was not fully satisfied with it and wanted to go further. So, in February of 1926, he established what would, in 50 years, become Black History Month- N*gro History Week.
Celebrations of N*gro History Week spread rapidly. They popped up all over the USA, and Woodson along with the ASNLH provided annual themes, study materials, and incentives for celebrations. The spread of N*gro History Week was massive. Official celebrations were established by political leaders, and many schools began forming N*gro History clubs.
Woodson’s Concerns-
While Woodson was definitely pleased with the reaction to N*gro History Week, he still had many concerns about it. Although he chose the second week of February to celebrate the week due to many Black communities across America celebrating the birthdays of Abraham Lincoln and Frederick Douglass, both of which occur in the second week of February, he personally disapproved of those celebrations because he believed that they gave to much emphasis to one or two great people, instead of highlighting the history of Black people as a whole.
This concern he brought to N*gro History Week- he worried that people would start only celebrating certain huge figures from Black history instead of celebrating all the Black people from Black history, whether or not they personally made huge advancements, because he believed that the greatness of Black history came not from a few important individuals, but from every single Black American.
Another concern that Woodson had was with the performativity of many N*gro History Week celebrations. He observed that, while many people did genuinely engage in celebrations, many also used it as an opportunity to appear progressive than to actually celebrate Black history. He believed that, if Black history were ever to be truly respected, it must not be confined to a singular week or period of time, but instead must be a constant, never-ceasing pursuit- year-round instead of confined to a time period.
Black History After Woodson-
Rest in power to Carter G. Woodson, who passed away on April 3, 1950.
In the 1950s and 1960s, Woodson’s legacy lived on. The drive to celebrate and commemorate Black history showed up in larger movements for racial change. The Freedom Schools of the South incorporated Black history into their curriculums, Black teachers fought for recognition of Black history within schools, and Woodson’s ASNLH continued to fight for institutional change regarding the celebration of Black history.
In 1976, the first American president officially endorsed February as Black History Month. Every president since has similarly endorsed it. To this day, Black History Month is a thriving celebration, in America and across the world. Although Carter G. Woodson didn’t survive to see the first official celebrations of Black History Month, his legacy lives on through BHM- and so does his call to a genuine commitment to anti-racism and Black history.
Summary/Conclusion/Key Points-
- Carter G. Woodson was a man dedicated to the pursuit of documenting, teaching, learning, and celebrating Black history. He was a teacher, a scholar, and a historian.
- In 1915, Woodson founded the ASNLH to promote independent institutionalization of Black history and its education. The next year, he founded the Journal of N*gro History. Both of these things still exist to this day.
- In 1926, Woodson founded N*gro History Week, which rapidly spread throughout the following decades. It was wildly popular and important, but also raised concerns about performativity.
- Woodson passed away in 1950. After his death, efforts to improve the education about Black history continued, especially in the South with activism from Black teachers.
- In 1976, Black History Month was first celebrated officially across America in February. Woodson’s legacy lives on to this day through BHM.
- While BHM is just a month long, Black history is constant and is not confined to one month of the year. Honor Black history in all you do, not just in February but at any and all opportunities across the whole year.

House Republican investigators have asked the National Archives to hand over any unredacted records in which then-VP Joe Biden used a pseudonym.
Previously released emails retrieved from Hunter's abandoned laptop reveal that Biden used a "[email protected]" email address while he was serving as Vice President of the United States. What's more, that Biden aide John Flynn cc'd Hunter on 10 emails which contained Joe's daily schedule between May 19 and June 15, 2016.
One of the emails details plans for a phone call with Ukraine's former president, Petro Poroshenko. Flynn copied Hunter at his email address at Rosemont Seneca Partners - while Hunter was serving on the board of Ukrainian energy giant, Burisma, which was deemed to be corrupt by the Obama-Biden State Department.
"Boss--8:45am prep for 9am phone call with Pres Poroshenko. Then we're off to Rhode Island for infrastructure event and then Wilmington for UDel commencement," Flynn wrote. "Nate will have your draft remarks delivered later tonight or with your press clips in the morning."
The House Oversight Committee request primarily is focused on Hunter’s $1 million per year position on the board of Ukrainian gas company Burisma, which hired the then-second son in early 2014 as his dad assumed control of the Obama administration’s Ukraine policy. But the broad request for records involving the president’s pseudonyms could turn up a variety of content, including about other Biden family ventures in countries such as China. -NY Post
According to a letter from House Oversight Committee Chairman James Comer, "The Committee’s need for these Vice-Presidential records is specific and well- documented," adding "The Committee seeks to craft legislative solutions aimed at deficiencies it has identified in the current legal framework regarding ethics laws and disclosure of financial interests related to the immediate family members of Vice Presidents and Presidents— deficiencies that may place American national security and interests at risk."
"The Committee seeks unrestricted special access/ ... These records have been redacted for public release pursuant to the PRA and FOIA. For example, an email bearing the subject “Friday Schedule Card,” is withheld in part under a “P6” and “b(6)” restrictions, denoting personal information regarding the subject under the PRA and FOIA respectively," Comer wrote.
"Attached to this email, and made available on the NARA website, is a document that indicates at 9:00 a.m. on May 27, 2016, Vice President Biden took a call with the president of Ukraine, Petro Poroshenko," he added. "It is concerning to the Committee, however, that this document was sent to “Robert L. Peters”—a pseudonym the Committee has identified as then Vice- President Biden. Additionally, the Committee questions why the then-Vice President’s son, Hunter Biden—and only Hunter Biden—was copied on this email to then-Vice President Biden."
As Just the News further notes, The letter requested special access to specific documents, including any:
"Document or communication in which a pseudonym for Vice President Joe Biden was included either as a sender, recipient, copied or was included in the contents of the document or communication, including but not limited to Robert Peters, Robin Ware, and JRB Ware;
"Document or communication in which Hunter Biden, Eric Schwerin, or Devon Archer was included either as a sender, recipient, copied, or was included in the contents of the document or communication; and
"Drafts from November 1, 2015 to December 9, 2015 of then-Vice President Biden’s speech delivered to the Ukrainian Rada on December 9, 2015."
Democrats probably need another Trump indictment at this point.

Web Development Trends 2023: What's Shaping the Future of Online Experiences
The development of the web over time is evidence of the tech industry's commitment to constant innovation in the face of a constantly shifting digital landscape. Keeping up with these changes is crucial if we are to continue providing our clients with the most innovative solutions as a leading Web development company in Vadodara, Gujarat, India.
Web development has come a long way from its infancy to the present day. Static HTML web pages were the foundation upon which the modern web was developed. The pages were static and lacked the interactive elements that characterise modern websites. However, a giant leap was made in web development with the introduction of JavaScript and its associated frameworks. This ushered in a new era of user-centric design, rich media, and dynamic content.
The subsequent appearance of content management systems (CMS) triggered a sea change in web development and administration. WordPress, Joomla, and Drupal are just a few of the platforms that have simplified content updates and modifications by eliminating the need for elaborate coding. As a top Web development company in Gujarat, India we were responsible for implementing these systems to provide our customers with better control over their material and provide more streamlined processes.
As the variety of devices available to users grew, so did the demand for responsive web design. Maintaining continuity of use across devices with varying display sizes is now of crucial importance. This focus on responsive design is in line with our mission as a Vadodara web development company to deliver excellent user experiences on all devices.
Cutting-edge innovations like AI, Progressive online Apps, and AR have come to define modern online design and development. These developments are raising the bar for performance and user interaction, allowing for the creation of truly unique digital experiences. As an excellent Web development company in India, we've embraced these developments, tapping into their potential to create sites that expertly blend aesthetic value with state-of-the-art features.
Tumblr media
The Advent of Progressive Web Apps (PWAs):
The advent of Progressive Web Apps (PWAs) has been heralded as a revolutionary step that has effectively blurred the distinctions between regular web pages and dedicated mobile apps. Nivida Web Solutions is recognised as a distinct Web development company in Vadodara, Gujarat, India. We recognise the potential of PWAs to improve digital interactions for our customers and their end users, and we are committed to seizing this opportunity.
When it comes to interacting with and understanding material on the web, progressive web apps herald a significant shift. These applications take the greatest features of both websites and mobile apps and offer users extraordinary interactivity and functionality. We know that progressive web apps' (PWAs') smooth user experience is crucial to attracting and retaining visitors.
PWAs are distinguished by their adaptability to different screen sizes and devices. PWAs guarantee the same high-quality experience across all devices, from mobile to desktop. Being the most reliable Web development company in Gujarat, we are dedicated to providing solutions that are as adaptable as possible to meet the needs of a wide range of users.
Instant loading times are another strength of PWAs, which they achieve in spades regardless of network performance. Faster loading speeds improve the user experience by decreasing the need for patience-testing waits. We know how important it is for our client's digital platforms to load quickly so that users can have a positive experience.
In addition, PWAs include offline capabilities that let consumers view content even without an active internet connection. This is a huge deal, especially in places with spotty internet service.
Voice Search and AI Integration: Transforming User Interactions
Key developments, such as voice search and AI integration, are revolutionising the way people use the internet. We at a premier Web development company in India understand the revolutionary potential of these technologies to shape the future of people's time spent online, and we're dedicated to maximising that potential to create delightful, natural user experiences for our customers and their target demographics.
Voice-activated search engines are changing the way people find their way online. The way individuals look for information has changed drastically since the introduction of voice-activated devices and virtual assistants. To ensure that our clients' platforms are still discoverable and available to consumers who prefer speech-based queries, as a reputable Web development company in Gujarat, we know the value of optimising websites for voice search.
Another game-changer in user engagement is the incorporation of artificial intelligence (AI), especially in the form of chatbots. Artificial intelligence-based chatbots allow for immediate help and tailored suggestions. Users are more satisfied and invested in the experience because it feels more human. As an India-based web development agency, we specialise in incorporating AI-powered chatbots to provide innovative user experiences that go beyond standard interfaces.
In addition, businesses may learn more about their customers' habits and preferences using AI-driven data analysis, paving the way for more tailored content and a more satisfied customer base. Vadodara's most innovative web developers know full well the strategic value of using AI to create personalised user experiences.
Keeping up with the competition requires websites to evolve as the use of voice search and AI increases. Our agile web development team builds AI-driven features that respond to user preferences and expedite interactions to make websites voice search-friendly.
Web Accessibility and Inclusive Design: Making the Web Universally Usable
The trend now is towards making websites and apps usable for people of all ages, abilities, and backgrounds. The principles of web accessibility and inclusive design have recently come to the fore, greatly impacting the process by which new websites are created. We understand the impact these tendencies will have on the future of people's interactions with the internet and are dedicated to building accessible platforms for everyone.
For those with physical or cognitive impairments, it is essential that websites be built with accessibility in mind from the start. However, Inclusive Design goes above and beyond accessibility standards by taking into account a wider range of user requirements and preferences. We, as Gujarat's leading web development agency, believe that everyone should be able to enjoy the same high-quality online services without discrimination.
Screen reader compatibility, keyboard navigation, picture alt text, and optimisation for users with visual, aural, or cognitive impairments are all components of Web Accessibility. Not only does Inclusive Design account for people of all ages and linguistic backgrounds, but it also takes into account the specific needs of those users. Websites built by an Indian web development firm following these guidelines would be accessible to the widest possible audience.
Web accessibility and inclusive design have many positive outcomes. For starters, they improve the quality of service provided by a website by making it easier to navigate and utilise. Second, they allow people who might not have been able to visit websites before to do so because of these tools. Websites that are easy for users with disabilities to navigate tend to rank higher in search results. Being the most distinguished Web development company in India, it is our responsibility to ensure that these guiding principles are fully included in our work so that no user is overlooked.
Immersive Technologies: AR and VR Redefining Online Experiences
The advent of new kinds of online experiences is due in large part to the widespread adoption of immersive technologies like AR and VR. We at Nivida Web Solutions, recognise the game-changing potential of augmented and virtual reality to shape the future of the internet. Incorporating these innovations into websites and apps will allow developers to craft more engaging and dynamic experiences for users.
In Augmented Reality, the user's environment is augmented with digital elements such as images, animations, and data. In contrast, virtual reality (VR) allows users to feel as though they are actually present and interacting within a digital world. We see the potential for augmented and virtual reality integration to transform customers' online experiences across sectors.
Virtual and augmented reality has the potential to produce very compelling interactions that will draw people in and keep them engrossed in digital material. The level of immersion provided by these technologies is unrivalled by more conventional means, whether one is trying on clothes before buying them or touring a house virtually. As an Indian web development firm, it is our job to leverage augmented and virtual reality to create user experiences that stick with them long after they've left the website.
The fields of teaching, learning, and leisure could likewise benefit greatly from these innovations. The ways in which people take in information are changing as a result of the advent of augmented and virtual reality technologies. Responsible web development in Vadodara means using cutting-edge tools like augmented and virtual reality to build cutting-edge platforms that provide users with more than just the run-of-the-mill experience.
Final Thoughts:
The trends we've covered thus far are just the tip of the iceberg, but they give us a glimpse into the exciting and transformational future of online experiences as we look ahead to 2023 and beyond. All of these developments—from Progressive Web Apps (PWAs) and voice search to Augmented Reality (AR) and inclusive design—point to a single truth about the modern digital landscape: it is in a constant state of flux, and businesses that want to stay competitive must be willing to adapt to new realities as they emerge.
Being an industry-leading Web development company in Vadodara, Gujarat, India, Nivida Web Solutions has seen this transformation firsthand. By deftly incorporating these developments into our projects, we not only stand ready to take advantage of these tendencies, but we also intend to establish new standards in web construction. Our inspiration comes from our customers' ideas, and we build each website with the goal of going above and beyond their wildest dreams.
Our commitment to quality and originality remains firm even as the environment around us changes. We hope you'll join us on this exciting adventure into the future. Working together, we can fully realise the advantages of PWAs, voice search, augmented and virtual reality, web accessibility, and more. Together, we have the opportunity to create a vision for the future of digital culture that doesn't merely reflect current fashions but rather pushes the envelope. Nivida Web Solutions is where website creation is headed in the future.

TikTok recently announced that its users in the European Union will soon be able to switch off its infamously engaging content-selection algorithm. The EU’s Digital Services Act (DSA) is driving this change as part of the region’s broader effort to regulate AI and digital services in accordance with human rights and values.
TikTok’s algorithm learns from users’ interactions—how long they watch, what they like, when they share a video—to create a highly tailored and immersive experience that can shape their mental states, preferences, and behaviors without their full awareness or consent. An opt-out feature is a great step toward protecting cognitive liberty, the fundamental right to self-determination over our brains and mental experiences. Rather than being confined to algorithmically curated For You pages and live feeds, users will be able to see trending videos in their region and language, or a “Following and Friends” feed that lists the creators they follow in chronological order. This prioritizes popular content in their region rather than content selected for its stickiness. The law also bans targeted advertisement to users between 13 and 17 years old, and provides more information and reporting options to flag illegal or harmful content.
In a world increasingly shaped by artificial intelligence, Big Data, and digital media, the urgent need to protect cognitive liberty is gaining attention. The proposed EU AI Act offers some safeguards against mental manipulation. UNESCO’s approach to AI centers human rights, the Biden Administration’s voluntary commitments from AI companies addresses deception and fraud, and the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development has incorporated cognitive liberty into its principles for responsible governance of emerging technologies. But while laws and proposals like these are making strides, they often focus on subsets of the problem, such as privacy by design or data minimization, rather than mapping an explicit, comprehensive approach to protecting our ability to think freely. Without robust legal frameworks in place worldwide, the developers and providers of these technologies may escape accountability. This is why mere incremental changes won't suffice. Lawmakers and companies urgently need to reform the business models on which the tech ecosystem is predicated.
A well-structured plan requires a combination of regulations, incentives, and commercial redesigns focusing on cognitive liberty. Regulatory standards must govern user engagement models, information sharing, and data privacy. Strong legal safeguards must be in place against interfering with mental privacy and manipulation. Companies must be transparent about how the algorithms they’re deploying work, and have a duty to assess, disclose, and adopt safeguards against undue influence.
Much like corporate social responsibility guidelines, companies should also be legally required to assess their technology for its impact on cognitive liberty, providing transparency on algorithms, data use, content moderation practices, and cognitive shaping. Efforts at impact assessments are already integral to legislative proposals worldwide, including the EU’s Digital Services Act, the US's proposed Algorithmic Accountability Act and American Data Privacy and Protection Act, and voluntary mechanisms like the US National Institute of Standards and Technology’s 2023 Risk Management Framework. An impact assessment tool for cognitive liberty would specifically measure AI’s influence on self-determination, mental privacy, and freedom of thought and decisionmaking, focusing on transparency, data practices, and mental manipulation. The necessary data would encompass detailed descriptions of the algorithms, data sources and collection, and evidence of the technology's effects on user cognition.
Tax incentives and funding could also fuel innovation in business practices and products to bolster cognitive liberty. Leading AI ethics researchers emphasize that an organizational culture prioritizing safety is essential to counter the many risks posed by large language models. Governments can encourage this by offering tax breaks and funding opportunities, such as those included in the proposed Platform Accountability and Transparency Act, to companies that actively collaborate with educational institutions in order to create AI safety programs that foster self-determination and critical thinking skills. Tax incentives  could also support research and innovation for tools and techniques that surface deception by AI models.
Technology companies should also adopt design principles embodying cognitive liberty. Options like adjustable settings on TikTok or greater control over notifications on Apple devices are steps in the right direction. Other features that enable self-determination—including labeling content with “badges” that specify content as human- or machine-generated, or asking users to engage critically with an article before resharing it—should become the norm across digital platforms.
The TikTok policy change in Europe is a win, but it’s not the endgame. We urgently need to update our digital rulebook, implementing new laws, regulations, and incentives that safeguard user’s rights and hold platforms accountable. Let’s not leave the control over our minds to technology companies alone; it’s time for global action to prioritize cognitive liberty in the digital age.

Navigating the Digital Divide: China’s New Restrictions on Online Gaming and the Implications for Surveillance
Introduction
Critics argue that China’s recent move to restrict online gaming for minors has sparked global discussion about the potential consequences of such measures. While the intentions behind the regulations may be commendable, the implementation and potential outcomes raise concerns about individual privacy and the expansion of surveillance. This blog delves into the intricacies of China’s new gaming restrictions, exploring the potential consequences and their implications for surveillance.
Tumblr media
China’s Online Gaming Restrictions: A Closer Look
According to (World Economic Forum 2021), in August 2021, China’s National Press and Publication Administration (NPPA) issued a notice imposing new restrictions on online gaming for minors. The regulations stipulate that minors are prohibited from playing online games during the weekdays, with a maximum of three hours of playtime permitted on weekends and holidays. Additionally, gaming companies are mandated to implement strict identification verification procedures and adopt real-name registration systems to ensure compliance. It was mentioned by (Inocencio 2021), that only on Fridays, Saturdays, Sundays, and national holidays - from 8pm to 9pm were kids allowed to play video games. On top of that real-name verification and log-in systems are now necessary for access to online games and gaming businesses are only able to provide three hours of service to young gamers during those short windows of time (Inocencio 2021).
Tumblr media
Potential Consequences of the Restrictions
The implementation of these restrictions has the potential to impact various aspects of Chinese society, particularly among the young generation. One significant consequence is the potential for increased surveillance. To enforce the gaming restrictions, gaming companions may need to implement more stringent monitoring mechanisms, such as tracking playtime, game content, and user interactions. This increase in data collection could re=aise concerns about privacy and the potential for misuse of potential information (Xiao 2022). Restricting gaming for those under the age of eighteen can prevent addictions from forming, which some experts believe has serious ramification for the gaming business (Brooke 2021). Due to what research showed that gaming habits frequently develop in children, this may have an effect on China’s tech companies’ future earnings (Brooke 2021).
Tumblr media
Impact on Individual Privacy
The expanded surveillance measures associated with the gaming restrictions could have a chilling effect on individual privacy. The constant monitoring of online activities could lead to self-censorship and a reluctance to engage in open and unfettered online interactions. This could potentially hinder the free flow of information and ideas, particularly among younger generations (Yaqoub, Jingwu & Ambekar 2023). This would ultimately be the same technological framework that shields kids from danger, restricts speech on the internet, and gathers a ton of personal information (Yang 2023).
Implications for Social Cohesion
The restrictions could also have implications for social cohesion. By limiting minors’ access to online gaming, which has become a significant social platform for rmany young people, the regulations could potentially fragment social connections and hinder the formation of online communities. This could lead to a sense of isolation and disconnection among younger generations (Yue, Teresiene & Ullah 2021). This would in turn make children become socially apprehensive and find it difficult to communicate with adults or their classmates (Shoppe 2021). It is also mentioned by (Shoppe 2021) that because humans are social beings that share knowledge with one another, social isolation can impede social and emotional development in addition to slowing intellectual progress.
Tumblr media
Alternative Approaches
Instead of imposing strict restrictions, amore balanced approach could involve promoting healthier gaming habits and encouraging parental involvement in monitoring their children’s online activities. Educational programs could be implemented to teach minors about responsible gaming, cyberbullying prevention, and online safety. Additionally, promoting alternative leisure activities and encouraging physical and social interactions could help reduce excessive gaming among minors. One of the methods include to set a limit to one self. For example, setting timers for how long one plays a certain game and become conscious to the amount of time spent playing in a day even if one does not stop immediately after the timer goes off, awareness is still essential (Allan 2017).
Tumblr media
Conclusion
China's new restrictions on online gaming for minors raise concerns about individual privacy, surveillance, and the potential impact on social cohesion. While the intentions behind the regulations may be to promote healthy habits and protect minors, the implementation could have unintended consequences that require careful consideration. A more balanced approach that focuses on education, parental involvement, and alternative leisure activities could be more effective in addressing the underlying concerns while minimizing potential negative impacts.

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (AP) — Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis' administration has blocked a new Advanced Placement course on African American studies from being taught in high schools, saying it violates state law and is historically inaccurate.
The state education department rejected the program in a letter last week to the College Board, which oversees AP classes.
Florida education officials did not specify exactly what content the state found objectionable but said, “As presented, the content of this course is inexplicably contrary to Florida law and significantly lacks educational value.”
“In the future, should College Board be willing to come back to the table with lawful, historically accurate content, (the education department) will always be willing to reopen the discussion," the letter continued.
In a statement, the College Board said, “Like all new AP courses, AP African American Studies is undergoing a rigorous, multi-year pilot phase, collecting feedback from teachers, students, scholars and policymakers.”
“The process of piloting and revising course frameworks is a standard part of any new AP course, and frameworks often change significantly as a result,” the statement read.
The College Board website describes the course as interdisciplinary, touching on literature, arts, humanities, political science, geography and science. The pilot program is debuting at 60 schools across the country before it expands to additional schools. The organization has been working on constructing the course for more than a decade, according to its website.
DeSantis, a potential 2024 GOP presidential candidate, has opposed what he calls liberal ideologies in schools, including lessons around critical race theory, which examines systemic racism and has become a frequent target of conservatives.
Last year the governor signed legislation dubbed the Stop WOKE Act that restricts certain race-based conversations and analysis in schools and businesses. The law bars instruction that says members of one race are inherently racist or should feel guilt for past actions committed by others of the same race, among other things.
More recently the governor's budget office called on state colleges to submit spending information on programs related to diversity, equity and inclusion and critical race theory, raising concerns of potential funding cuts around such initiatives.
Sharon Courtney, a high school teacher in Peekskill, New York teaching the African American studies course, said her students were "shocked" to learn Florida blocked the class. She described it as a factual African history course that also details what Africans experienced upon their arrival in North America.
“There’s nothing objectionable, it's history that hasn’t been traditionally taught in the United States in a K through 12 setting,” she said, “but it's also history that once known and understood could change race relations and improve them.”

🇰🇵 DPRK HOLDS 9TH SESSION OF THE 14TH SUPREME PEOPLE'S ASSEMBLY: RATIFIES CONSTITUTIONAL AMENDMENT TO ENSHRINE NUCLEAR POLICY
The General Secretary of the Worker's Party of Korea and President of the State Affairs of the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK), Kim Jung Un gave a speech Thursday which was reported in the DPRK's official news outlet, the Korean Central News Agency (KCNA).
In the speech, Comrade Kim made the announcement of the new Constitutional amendment which enshrines the DPRK leader's Nuclear Policy into the very framework of the nation:
"Today the strategic strength of our state, the nuclear war deterrent, is being remarkably bolstered and steadily strengthened to the extent incomparably greater than the past decades."
"The major tasks of the Five-Year-Plan for the Development of the Defense Science and Weapons System have been successfully carried out and a radical leap was made in the development and introduction of powerful nuclear attack means and new strategic weapon system of our own style. Thus, we demonstrated the reliability of the nuclear strategic force of our Republic to the whole world, exposing the hostile forces to insurmountable threat and striking terror in their hearts."
"This eye-opening success, which actually shows great military muscle of the Republic fully equipped with strong and overwhelming defensive and offensive capabilities, clearly and definitively proves the courage and decisive action ability of the DPRK not to tolerate any acts of violating its sovereignty and right to existence."
-
"The present SPA successfully carried out the work of reflecting the actual state of our national power in the new era in the constitution of the country, along with the adoption of various laws related to state administration, economic development and people-oriented policies. As a result, the current session has been recorded as a historic one which added a remarkable page to the constitutional history of the DPRK."
"It is of very deep and weighty significance that we have adopted the decision with unanimous approval to supplement Article 58 of Chapter 4 of the Socialist Constitution of the Democratic People's Republic of Korea with new contents- to ensure the country's right to existence and development, deter war and protect regional and global peace by rapidly developing nuclear weapons to a higher level - just in this assembly hall where the codification of the policy of the state nuclear force solemnly took place in accordance with the general will of all the Korean people just one year ago."
-
"The DPRK's nuclear force-building policy has been made permanent as the basic law of the state, which no one is allowed to flout with anything. This is a historic event that provided a powerful political lever for remarkably strengthening the national defense capabilities, including the nuclear force, for firmly consolidating the institutional and legal foundations for guaranteeing security and protecting national interests by relying on it, and for accelerating the overall development of our style of Socialism."
-
"The crystal clear stipulation of the keynote policy of bolstering the nuclear force in the supreme state law, which will permanently exist along with socialist Korea, is the most just and reasonable crucial step which fully meets, not only the urgent requirements of the present era, but also the lawfulness and the long-term requirements of building a socialist country."
"It is the fact recognized by the world that the DPRK inevitably had access to nuclear weapons for self-defense and developed its policy of bolstering up the nuclear force into a law, for it is standing in protracted confrontation with the US., the world's biggest nuclear weapons state and the most dangerous war state, and its vassal forces."
-
"Saying that the important task facing the WPK and the DPRK government, the fulfillment of which should be pushed ahead with nonstop in implementing the present-stage fighting programme set forth at the 8th Congress of the WPK, is to rapidly bolster up both in quality and quantity the nuclear force, he stressed the need to push ahead with the work for exponentially boosting the production of nuclear weapons and diversifying the nuclear strike means and deploying them in different services."
-
Kim ended the section of the speech about nuclear deterrence by urging the external affairs sector to, "consistently hold fast to the external strategy of the Party Central Committee and conduct in a broad and prospective way the external activities for creating conditions and environment in favor of the Korean revolution and further promote solidarity with the nations standing against the U.S. and the West's strategy for hegemony while firmly adhering to the revolutionary principle and the stand of independence at the fore of the struggle of the anti-imperialist independent countries."

"We affirm both academic freedom and our responsibility to foster an inclusive learning community. Importantly, these values neither contradict nor supersede each other.”So declared a Hamline University faculty resolution asking President Fayneese S. Miller to resign given her handling of a now-infamous controversy over the display of the Prophet Muhammad in an art-history class. While we applaud the faculty for taking a stand against administrative overreach, we think its position on the relationship between academic freedom and inclusion is mistaken. In our viewthere will inevitably be tensions between these two values. And when those tensions arise, academic freedom must prevail — at least, if we want to ensure a college education worthy of its name.
The assertion that inclusion and academic freedom are not in tension is an article of faith for many of those dedicated to promoting campus inclusion. In 2018, the Harvard University Task Force on Inclusion and Belonging released an 82-page report stating that the “values of academic freedom and inclusion and belonging provide each other with synergistic and mutual reinforcement.” According to this report, the two should not be conceived of as “distinct values that must be accommodated to each other” or, worse still, as “antagonistic goals.” This view is central to the frameworks advanced in books such as Ulrich Baer’s What Snowflakes Get Right: Free Speech, Truth, and Equality on Campus, John Palfrey’s Safe Spaces, Brave Spaces: Diversity and Free Expression in Education andSigal Ben-Porath’s Cancel Wars: How Universities Can Foster Free Speech, Promote Inclusion, and Renew Democracy.
When campuses are facing a controversy like Hamline’s, it’s important to recognize that students, faculty, and administrators don’t have the time for careful, philosophical deliberations about the meaning and value of inclusion. Rather, they find themselves in the grip of a system we call DEI Inc.
DEI Inc. is a logic, a lingo, and a set of administrative policies and practices. The logic is as follows: Education is a product, students are consumers, and campus diversity is a customer-service issue that needs to be administered from the top down. (“Chief diversity officers,” according to an article in Diversity Officer Magazine,“are best defined as ‘change-management specialists.’”) DEI Inc. purveys a safety-and-security model of learning that is highly attuned to harm and that conflates respect for minority students with unwavering affirmation and validation.
Lived experience, the intent-impact gap, microaggressions, trigger warnings, inclusive excellence. You know the language of DEI Inc. when you hear it. It’s a combination of management-consultant buzzwords, social justice slogans, and “therapy speak.” The standard package of DEI Inc. administrative “initiatives” should be familiar too, from antiracism trainings to bias-response teamsand mandatory diversity statements for hiring and promotion.
In many ways the Hamline debacle is the ideal case study for laying bare the unavoidable tensions between academic freedom and the DEI Inc. approach to inclusion. The incident has received considerable attention, but allow us to rehearse some of the key events and the language used by the various people involved.
This past fall semester, the syllabus for Erika López Prater’s global-art-history online course contained an advisory alerting students that the class would feature depictions of holy figures, including the Prophet Muhammad; if students had any concerns about the visual content they were invited to contact her. During the class session on Islamic art, Prater offered students an optional exercise: Analyze a 14th-century Islamic painting of Muhammad receiving his first Quranic revelation. Before presenting the painting, she reiterated the content warning and asked students who would prefer not to see the image to turn off their screens.
Despite Prater’s precautions, a Muslim student complained that pictorial depictions of the prophet offended her Muslim sensibilities: “As a Muslim, and a Black person, I don’t feel like I belong, and I don’t think I’ll ever belong in a community where they don’t value me as a member, and they don’t show the same respect that I show them.”
The student complaint set the campus DEI bureaucracy into motion. David Everett, associate vice president for inclusive excellence, made a public statement calling the classroom exercise “undeniably inconsiderate, disrespectful, and Islamophobic.” Because of the incident, Everett said, “it was decided it was best that this faculty member was no longer part of the Hamline community.” Prater was not given any opportunity to explain the rationale behind the class exercise.
In December, President Miller and David Everett sent an open letter to the campus asserting that “appreciation of religious and other differences should supersede when we know that what we teach will cause harm,”and in particular “respect for the observant Muslim students in that classroom should have superseded academic freedom.” After the news made national and international headlines, Miller doubled down, explaining that her decisions were guided by “prioritizing the well-being of our students,” especially by“minimizing harm.”
Miller’s comments at least had the virtue of offering an honest diagnosis of the tension between academic freedom and inclusion. This tension has only ratcheted up in recent years, as colleges make grand promises to create “environments in which any individual or group feels welcomed, respected, supported, and valued.” With institutions promoting such an expansive definition of “inclusion,” we shouldn’t be surprised when they become ensnared in their own rhetoric and policies. How will DEI administrators respond when a Chinese national complains that a political-science discussion about the persecution of Uyghurs is “harmful anti-Chinese propaganda”?Or when a Christian evangelical says her faith was insulted in a contemporary art class after seeing a Robert Mapplethorpe photograph of two men kissing? The permutations are endless and, for professors who teach sensitive or controversial material, alarming.
The American Association of University Professors clearly states that students do not have the right to shield even their “most cherished beliefs” from challenge or scrutiny:
Ideas that are germane to a subject under discussion in a classroom cannot be censored because a student with particular religious or political beliefs might be offended. Instruction cannot proceed in the atmosphere of fear that would be produced were a teacher to become subject to administrative sanction based upon the idiosyncratic reaction of one or more students. This would create a classroom environment inimical to the free and vigorous exchange of ideas necessary for teaching and learning in higher education.
The censorship of ideas because students with particular political beliefs might take offense is precisely what’s happening across the country with anti-critical-race-theory legislation. The notion of harm is central to these “divisive concepts” laws, which have used Trump’s now-revoked 2020 Executive Order 13950 as a template.Among the things prohibited in this EO was that “any individual should feel discomfort, guilt, anguish, or any other form of psychological distress on account of his or her race or sex.”That white students could shut down discussions of “white privilege” and “structural inequality” because they make them uncomfortable is a most egregious affront to academic freedom. Laws like Florida’s “Stop WOKE Act” underscore that policies oriented around harm-avoidance in the classroom are educational dead ends.
To safeguard high-quality teaching that powerfully and accurately communicates our disciplines and fields, academic freedom must be vigorously defended. Students, DEI administrators and other campus stakeholders should understand that professorshave the right to decide what and howto teach based on their academic expertise and their pedagogical goals. They should also know that there is no academic freedom without academic responsibility. Academic freedom is not a license to mouth off or teachwhatever material suits our fancy. Moreover, when thorny issues arise pertaining to classroom instruction, we have a responsibility to listen to students’ concerns and take them seriously. This does not mean, however, that students should be able to dictate the curriculum.
The Hamline case should serve as a wake-up call for anyone who cares about classroom teaching, critical thinking, and the future of higher education. Some may see this controversy as an exception or an outlier. It’s not. It’s a bellwether of how DEI Inc. is eroding academic freedom. Let’s not forget it took an outpouring of sustained, high-publicity resistance, not to mention a lawsuit, for Hamline to soften its charge of “Islamophobia” against Prater and affirm its commitment to academic freedom.
When institutions proclaim that academic freedom and inclusion coexist in a kind of synergistic harmony, they are trafficking in PR-driven wishful thinking. In the hardest cases, there is no way of upholding an “all are welcome here” brand of inclusion while simultaneously defending academic freedom. Instead, we should turn to the wise words of Hanna Holborn Gray, former president of the University of Chicago: “Education should not be intended to make people comfortable, it is meant to make them think.”

Django Best Practices for Building Secure and Scalable Web Applications
Tumblr media
Django is a popular high-level Python web framework that makes it easy to build secure and scalable web applications. With its clean and simple syntax, Django allows developers to quickly and easily build complex web applications without having to worry about the underlying infrastructure. In this article, we will outline the best practices for building secure and scalable Django web applications.
1. Keep Your Django Version Up to Date
One of the most important things you can do to ensure the security of your Django web application is to keep your Django version up to date. This is because new releases of Django often include security updates that fix known vulnerabilities. Additionally, new releases of Django often include new features and performance improvements that can help you build better and faster web applications.
2. Use Secure Passwords
It is important to use strong passwords when building Django web applications. This includes not only the passwords used by users, but also the passwords used by administrators and other system accounts. Strong passwords should be at least 12 characters long and include a mix of upper and lowercase letters, numbers, and special characters.
3. Validate User Input
One of the most common ways that attackers can compromise a Django web application is by exploiting vulnerabilities in user input. This is why it is important to validate all user input before accepting it. This includes validating the format, length, and type of input, as well as checking for malicious content.
4. Use SSL/TLS Encryption
Another important aspect of building a secure Django web application is to use SSL/TLS encryption to protect sensitive information in transit. This includes information such as passwords, credit card numbers, and other sensitive data. SSL/TLS encryption ensures that the information being transmitted between the user and the server is encrypted and cannot be intercepted by an attacker.
5. Implement Access Control
Access control is an important aspect of building a secure web application. In Django, access control can be implemented using a combination of authentication and authorization. Authentication is the process of verifying that a user is who they claim to be, while authorization is the process of determining what actions a user is allowed to perform.
6. Use the Django Debug Toolbar
The Django Debug Toolbar is a powerful tool that can help you identify and fix performance and security issues in your Django web application. It provides a wealth of information about your application, including performance metrics, SQL queries, and other information that can help you optimize your application and make it more secure.
7. Monitor Your Logs
Monitoring your logs is an important part of building a secure and scalable Django web application. Logs can provide valuable information about the performance and security of your application, including error messages, access logs, and performance metrics. Regularly reviewing your logs can help you identify and fix issues with your application before they become major problems.
8. Regularly Back Up Your Data
Regularly backing up your data is an important part of building a secure and scalable Django web application. Backups can protect your data in the event of a hardware failure, a security breach, or other unexpected event. It is important to store backups in a secure location, such as an off-site server or a cloud-based storage service.
9. Use a Content Delivery Network (CDN)
Using a content delivery network (CDN) can help you improve the performance and scalability of your Django web application. A CDN caches your content on servers around the world, so that it is closer to users, reducing the time it takes for content to be delivered. This can help reduce server load and improve the overall performance of your application, making it more scalable.
10. Test Your Web Application Regularly
Regularly testing your web application is an important part of building a secure and scalable Django web application. This includes both functional testing, which verifies that the application is working as expected, and security testing, which identifies potential vulnerabilities in the application. By testing your web application regularly, you can identify and fix issues before they become major problems.
Conclusion
Building a secure and scalable Django web application requires a combination of good coding practices, regular maintenance, and attention to detail. By following the best practices outlined in this article, you can help ensure that your Django web application is robust, reliable, and secure. With a focus on security, performance, and scalability, you can build a high-quality Django web application that will meet the needs of your users for years to come.

In a revelation through The Twitter Files, surprising new evidence has emerged – indicating Nada Bakos, former CIA counter-terrorism agent and one of many who engaged in a smear campaign against the New York Post’s exposé on Hunter Biden’s controversial laptop, concealed her critical position at Twitter.
Congressman Jim Jordan has sent Bakos letters requesting answers regarding any involvement with signing the laptop letter.
We obtained a copy of a letter for you here.
Substack journalist Texas Lindsay dug up the information, pointing to an email Bakos sent, expressing a scramble to secure her social media profiles when she appeared on the cover of the New York Post along with other ex-spooks who had discredited the laptop story.
This chain of events is an exposure of a threat to transparency and free speech in the social media world, particularly fueling the simmering unease about the influence of former intelligence professionals employed on major platforms.
It not only raises questions about conspiratorial alliances hidden beneath layers of bureaucracy but also opens up ethical concerns about the impunity and extent of such influence.
According to the unmasked details, as recently as March 2022, Bakos played a strategic role in Twitter’s policy enforcement framework, enabling her to directly influence the implementation of their content moderation procedures. She is recognized for her counter-terrorism efforts post 9/11, and notably worked under former CIA Deputy Director, Mike Morrell, appointed under the Obama administration.

What is Sales Enablement?
What is Sales Enablement?
Sales enablement is the most common way of giving the deals association the data, content, and devices that assist merchants with selling all the more actually. The groundwork of deals enablement is to furnish merchants with what they need to effectively draw in the purchaser all through the purchasing system.
The concept of sales enablement originated in 2013 and caught on quickly when companies realized the impact it can have on business outcomes.
The groups who hit 100 percent of their deals objectives, 32% have a devoted deals enablement program.
78.6% of organizations who have a successful preparation program meet 100 percent of their selling amount.
8 out of 10 groups who have successful training rehearses hit more prominent than 75% of deals amounts.
The benefits of sales enablement
Deals and showcasing have customarily been siloed, with little cooperation or coordinated effort between the two divisions. Taking into account that organizations are better at bringing bargains when their deals to a close and showcasing divisions are adjusted, any gorge between them represents a critical issue.
Despite the fact that associations have had some significant awareness of this siloing for a long time, overcoming any issues has forever been not exactly simple or easy. As of recently.
Deals enablement is the answer for showcasing deals arrangement. It prepares to more extensive correspondence channels and incessant cooperation. By taking on a high level deals enablement stage and following a few prescribed procedures, arrangement is conceivable at your association.
Here are probably the most unmistakable advantages of deals enablement.
Improved communication and teamwork
Correspondence among deals and showcasing groups is quite difficult for some associations. Deals enablement assists address this test with a superior framework for overseeing deals content. This content administration framework (CMS) is a concentrated information base that houses deals assets for all divisions and advances showcasing and deals cooperation during the production of deals content.
Further, when the two divisions share similar deals enablement apparatuses, CRM information, and business cycles, advertising and outreach groups can work with consolidated bits of knowledge of the objective market and the deals pipe. The two groups team up to all the more likely characterize purchaser personas and further develop lead-scoring processes.
Increased revenue
Primary concern execution is clearly the main advantage of deals enablement. With upgraded and adaptable substance, better client understanding, and full perceivability into deal processes, reps close more arrangements and produce more income.

What are the various education boards are there in India?
India has many educational boards, some of which have been around for a very long period. Each Board has its own approaches to curriculum, instruction, and exam administration that support students' entire growth. Parents frequently struggle to choose the best education board for their kids. You can find out everything you need to know about the many Indian educational boards in this post.
Tumblr media
Different Education Boards in India:
State Boards
Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE)
Indian Certificate of Secondary Education (ICSE)
International Baccalaureate (IB)
International General Certificate of Secondary Education (IGCSE)
National Institute of Open Schooling (NIOS)
State Boards
Every State has its own State Boards, which adhere to its own syllabus and ranking standards. The main education boards in India each have their own educational strategies, which results in differences in the curricula from one state to the next. It places a focus on regionally relevant topics and local content that enables students to prepare for state-level engineering and medical admission exams. In comparison to numerous other boards, the syllabus is often restricted. Regional heritage and languages have a significant part in the curriculum. Recent state board directives mandated that all schools use only NCERT textbooks, which are crucial for students preparing for all-India exams.
Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE)
One of India's most renowned and possibly most well-known education boards is the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE). Since it relates to establishing traditional teaching frameworks for most schools across the country, CBSE has succeeded in doing this. Numerous private and public schools across subscribe to this national level board. Exams are given by the Board to both regular and private students. Candidates who are interested in remote learning can register for admissions and apply for evaluations. After the tenth grade, CBSE offers its students a variety of courses in the humanities, sciences, and business. Students can submit applications to numerous universities for higher education after graduating from class twelve.
Indian Certificate of Secondary Education (ICSE)
In India, a private education board of administers the Indian School Certificate Examination. The purpose of this board is to offer an English-medium general education examination in compliance with the New Education Policy 1986 (India) recommendations. Candidates who plan to take the exam must complete one to three papers in each of six disciplines. Consequently, depending on the disciplines, there are eight to eleven papers in total. Results for the ICSE exam only consider the top five topics. But English marks are always required and inclusive.
Tumblr media
IB School
With its headquarters in Geneva, Switzerland, the International Baccalaureate (IB) is a privately run global educational foundation. It offers three main programmes: a primary year programme for students in grades KG through 5, a middle year programme for students in grades 6 through 10, and a diploma programme for students in grades 11 and 12. The 144 nations where this board is offered have around 3500 schools on it. Without having to take several additional tests, the IB board assists pupils in applying to overseas universities. Students are taught analytical abilities, language, the arts, and humanities in its curricula. To prevent a fragmented approach, the disciplines are taught in this setting in an integrated manner. Typically, parents who intend to relocate overseas favour IB.
International General Certificate of Secondary Education (IGCSE)
Students can prepare for the International Baccalaureate and Cambridge Assessment International Education (CAIE) A-level through the private, internationally accepted International General Certificate of Secondary Education (IGCSE) programme. There are essentially four exam types: Cambridge Primary for students in the fifth through eleventh grades, Cambridge Secondary 1 and Cambridge Secondary 2 for students in the twelveth through sixteenth grades. It provides students with two pathways: Cambridge IGCSE and Cambridge O Level, as well as Cambridge Additional for students between the ages of 16 and 19 who need advanced study to get ready for college and higher education. Students then have the option of enrolling in Cambridge Pre-U or Cambridge International AS and A Level. The tests are administered by the University of Cambridge International Examinations, and this board has members in 120 nations.
National Institute of Open Schooling (NIOS)
The National Institute of Open Schooling (NIOS), which was founded in 1989, is a government-run open school that enables students to study online or even restart their education if there has been a lapse in their studies. This board's main objective is to improve distant communities' access to education. Open Basic Education (OBE) includes classes 3 through 8 in the primary grades. Basic math, environmental science, and computer abilities are all covered here. At least five subjects and a language must be taken from each of the two basic groupings for grade 10. In grade 12, there are additional alternatives available in the humanities, sciences, and business. Then, the students choose one or two from each of the five groups that were created.
Conclusion:
Students today in India have a variety of education boards to pick from while choosing a curriculum. It can be challenging to find the right education board in India, though. Choosing the best curriculum may be one of your many alternatives, but you also need to consider several other factors, such as the extracurricular activities that are given, the cost, and the future aspirations of your children. I recommend the Soundarya School in Bangalore, which offers both CBSE and state board education along with excellent other facilities that can assist your child develop more fully. We sincerely hope that our advice on selecting the best education board for your child helped you.

I knew College Board were trash but I'm kinda shocked they just folded, I mean don't they know they're doing a huge damage to their credibility in the other 49 states to just get one program through in one state
besides which like... not every HS offers every AP course, most only have basics, so the schools that might have AP African American Studies are really making a choice that they want it, will they pay for a censored version?
Supposedly, according to the College Board CEO, the "changes were not made to bow to political pressure."
“At the College Board, we can’t look to statements of political leaders,” he said. The changes, he said, came from “the input of professors” and “longstanding A.P. principles.”
Additionally
A version of the course is being offered in 60 high schools as a pilot and will expand to hundreds more schools in the upcoming school year, the organization has said. The course is expected to be available to all schools in the 2024-25 school year, according to the College Board website.
Unlike the pilot version, the College Board said the official framework includes additional topics, only requires the analysis of “core historical, literary, and artistic works,” does not have a required list of secondary sources and adds a research project that counts as part of the AP exam score.
So it's not yet been fully introduced (the first exam for this course wouldn't be until Spring 2025)
From that first article:
Black writers and scholars associated with critical race theory have been scrubbed from the curriculum, as have those who touch on the Black queer experience and Black feminism. Other topics, like Black Lives Matter, are now optional.
The Board also added “Black conservatism” as a potential research topic.
...
DeSantis’s administration rejected the original course because “the content of this course is inexplicably contrary to Florida law and significantly lacks educational value.”
The administration specifically named topics of intersectionality, Black Queer Studies, the Black Lives Matter movement, Black Feminist Literary Thought, the reparations movement and the Black Study and Black Struggle in the 21st Century as key concerns.
It also identified writings by Kimberlé Crenshaw, the “founder” of intersectionality, Angela Davis, a “self-avowed Communist and Marxist,” Roderick Ferguson, Leslie Kay Jones, bell hooks and Robin D.G. Kelly as problematic.
...
Meanwhile, Illinois Gov. J.B. Pritzker (D) sent a letter to the College Board stating he expects any AP African American studies course to “include a factual accounting of history, including the role played by black queer Americans.”
Because it's still just being set up, who knows how things'll progress, but it's not a heartening sign.
