EDIT: You can almost definitely slot most apps into one of the above options.
School app? Slot in with work app.
Transportation app, whether plane, train, or car? Rewards or financial, depending on if they have a rewards program.
Media hosting? I'll admit I should have thought of something like Libby before I made the post, but substack or spotify will fall into social media.
#apps#phones#smartphones#mobile apps#phoenix polls#personally my most recent was a geography game so I can gamify my learning of Countries I Don't Know

Not sure where to ask this, so im posting here as well as some forums BUT:
Basically I really love using Figma for making interactive menus. I have used Figma for mocking up websites and mobile apps before at my job, and in my odd time I’ve taken to using figma to prototype and make sketches of things like UI and flowcharts for the game my friends and I are developing. And even more recently I prototyped a fully custom, nice-looking, interactive character sheet for my character in the current campaign im playing.
Now, It’s got me thinking: I would really, really love to build custom character sheets for people as a side job as its something i genuinely enjoy doing. But the problem is, figma will not exist forever and I have foreseen that it might be a pain to build someone a prototype and I am the sole person to make updates whenever their character levels, they get new gear etc and I don’t really like the idea of forcing people to make an account for a tool they wont want to learn or use outside of the prototype i send them. Additionally, Figma prototype is ultimately not ideal for more distinguished and specific character sheets as I’d like for it to be.
For example, I would love to make buttons that a user can tap to mark how many death saves they have succeeded or failed, I want the user to be able to mark for inspiration and conditions, etc. I know I could possibly feasibly make it work all inside one scrollable frame, but the way I prefer to set up the character sheets requires navigating to different frames with buttons.
What other good alternatives are there? I like to make these character sheets for mobile use (phones and tablets) so should I jump to app development? I don’t mind learning new or more complicated softwares, just as long as the software is free, there’s a free trial long enough for me to learn the gist of the software, a single larger purchase for a license for a good amount of features, or the cost for subscription is low. Is Godot a good software to use for this? My team is learning godot anyway for our game as we were discouraged from Unreal Engine.

You know we’re in a healthy, functioning society when people have to use a burger app to see if they have electricity because the local infrastructure doesn’t exist

I don't get why Mistplay thinks making fun of us for not using their app would make us want to use their app?
Like, now I'm going to refuse to touch it out of SPITE, because you remind me of a bully on Disney Channel

Worldbuilding aid mobile app - intended audience's interest survey
Cuer is a mobile app designated to help writers (especially newbies) brainstorm and plan their stories through cues that prompt research.
Allegoris collaborates with writers to aid them in gaining perspective on their work and maximize their efforts. The feedback and opinion is as vital to us as that of editors and beta readers is for writers.

Purpose of survey
The app is still in our folders, for now.
We have exhausted our own knowledge and skills, and are in need of more team members to complete this project. Labor and efforts deserve to be compensated, so we need funds. Getting funds is a serious matter, so before proceeding we have decided to see if there is actually any interest in this app and willingness to help it come along. This survey will help us see what path could be best for us to take.
App description and purpose
Cuer's mechanism relies on the user choosing topics (ranging from geography to society to characters to language etc) and a time interval (one day to a week), then having the app send a "cue", a push notification related to the chosen topics;
Opening the app will allow you to see the current cue throughout the chosen interval;
The user can pause and restart the app;
We're still debating ideas on how to handle cues already prompted, but we'll likely have a list somewhere.
The goal is for the writer to take notice of and research about different elements that will help them shape their story, without having to spend time looking around to even realize those elements and their details exist. Topics can also include pacing, structuring, editing, burnout/writer's block etc. We're still deliberating on how to make already-sent cues still available (of course you could always write them down somewhere).
Example: for the topic "Characters", a cue would be "what is its fatal flaw?" which prompts the writer to research fatal flaws and brainstorm the ones for their characters.
This app does not do the work for you as the writer. It is your ideas, your efforts and your methods that create a unique story, and that can't be substituted–but it can be helped by relieving the stress of getting one's bearings.
Why then wouldn't we just sell a list of "cues"? Why these temporary prompts?
The spark of Cuer comes from a writer, actually.
"I wanted to have someone else help me by telling me what to do, lift some of the responsibility. After a while handling worldbuilding, it grates on me that I need to come up and think about everything and know about everything I have to look for. I know research is like 50% of a writer's job, but after a while I run out of spoons to give. A notif once in a while telling me 'Hey have you considered this' wouldn't be bad." [Asked to remain anonymous]
_________
Thank you for helping, and remember to reblog to help us reach as many writers as possible :) In the meantime, if you want to help us fill the cues database, you can share your knowledge tidbits, best tips and such through this form.
_________
*For example, through Kickstarter. The reward would be the app for free.

Does literally anyone else know that one mobile game from forever ago where you play as a lil pixilated boy in a green shirt and blue pants and you try to survive the night??? You have to buy like bug repellent and eventually you can buy a moat and a lighting rod then bears come
That game was so incredibly fun and it is non existent anymore. It feels like a fever dream because I don’t think anyone else knows what I’m talking abt lol

Do you have any tips for keeping up a routine for interacting with my tuplas? I’m trying to form one, but I keep forgetting I was doing it. (I have some preexisting memory issues).
If you want a consistent routine, setting a daily alarm on your phone to go off at the specific time you want to interact with your tulpa would probably be great!
You may also want to look into productivity apps like Habitica.

Quick rant but
Mobile apps suck so much. I was just looking for one of those apps that change what your icons look like, and every one was some scummy AI generated microtransaction crap with coins or whatever. Or with a subscription. No original content. And this stuff was top of the search! Being actively recommended to me! This stuff is bottom of the barrel crap and it's thrown in your face. Chock full of fabricated reviews, surely. No way in hell half of this of stuff was recommended this highly. And the amount of data collection? Absolutely abhorrent behaviour. Probably not saying anything new here, but, god, I feel like we need to bring up how scummy mobile apps are becoming.
Obviously there are exceptions. But I can't even play classic games like Piano Tiles or Subway Surfers without being bombarded with overstimulating microtransactions, offers, deals, bonuses, freebies... Like just, stop! It is genuinely so offputting to load up an app and have a million ads thrown in my face.
I dont mind stuff like Pokemon Go or Masters Ex even that much. It's still there, but now, stuff like Subway Surfers feels like they are TRYING to get me to accidentally click an ad for some stupid kiddie mobile game I will never download.
This practice is genuinely disgusting. It is predatory on children, frustrating on everyone, and so widely seen across so much. Everyone does it nowadays, even Amazon or Temu or whatever, or Google and stuff. It's all ADS ADS and AI AI and CLICK CLICK CLICK and it's becoming almost user unfriendly.
As well, reminder to uninstall and turn off the auto install on your Samsung. You might have lots of phone space clogged up by some shitty mobile game. Its usually found in that useless game launcher app.
anywho.
#i doubt this will change#but i hate it#apps#adverts#why the hell is this a thing#how to tag#pokemon#mobile games#mobile apps#and why they suck
