Aziraphale is doomed because of Good Omens naming conventions (prepare for pain)
Aziraphale’s (AKA Mr. Fell’s) name drives me insane because
Good Omens is so precise in its use of words (almost like it was a book first!) I didn’t know anathema was a word (yes, US education is dire, I know) which means “vehemently disliking” or, in the religious sense, excommunication
Anathema Device in Good Omens 1 is a witch (antithesis to the church,) yet is loved by Newton Pulsifier, who, based on their family histories, should hate and seek to destroy her
Her name being Anathema is a subversion of expectations; anathema should mean repulsive, tearing apart, unholy, and according to God’s plan, she is— but she really isn’t! She brings everyone together! Love wins!
Also…… Device. She’s a literal plot device
(Also Newton being a revered scientific figure VS Newt being woefully inept at computers— the ironing)
Aziraphale isn’t a real Biblical name, but one that sounds similar to actual scripture. His chosen human name is Mr. Fell because it sounds similar and is a real last name

Aziraphale, despite everything over centuries, still takes Heaven’s side because he truly believes he can work within The Plan ™️ to save humanity and Crowley
He’s completely incapable of grasping why Crowley wouldn’t want to go back to being an angel (because, who wouldn’t?)
He loves Crowley because he sees the good in him, but also still sees Goodness and Heaven as inextricably intwined
What’s tearing him and Crowley apart isn’t their mutual desire (to be together forever,) but that Crowley wants them to be on “Their own side,” while Aziraphale wants Crowley to be on the side of Good and therefore Heaven
Aziraphale remembers Crowley’s joy as an angel and wants to take away the pain of his Fall. His biggest fears and motivations as a character are losing Crowley and Falling himself
He’s now in the highest position of power possible and it’s strongly indicated that he’s going to have to reckon with the Second Coming. He may have been able to get away with a bit of deviance before, but this was for centuries when he and Crowley flew under the radar. He keeps defying divine will and getting away with far more (that we know of) than Crowley ever did to Fall
So, considering Good Omens’ use of metaphor in names and how high in Heaven Aziraphale is now—

Also goes for the whole “female characters men find hot vs. female characters sapphic women find hot” and vice versa. It’s true the queer community has a lot of history of having spaces and subcultures where different body types and fasho s and the like are considered attractive that aren’t in line with conventional beauty standards. This doesn’t mean queer people are inherently attracted to different types of people than cishet people. Plenty of queer people have the most “conventional” tastes you’ve ever seen and plenty of cishet people have tastes that don’t align with “conventional” beauty standards. Most people in fact, have a pretty big deviance from those standards. I don’t have time to go into the sociology of it but beauty standards society holds are always more ridged and strict than what people are actually going to find attractive.
Also, different circles WITHIN queer circles fight about internal beauty standards. A lot. I have encountered numerous twink versus bear arguments and guess what? Body sides are completely insufferable. Just because there’s a lot of counterculture roots and promotion of nonconventional standards doesn’t mean there isn’t pressure to conform to INTERNAL standards.
So no, you can’t determine the identity of the author based on who or what the story portrays as attractive.

major grom/plague doctor pages that made me feel big emotions (pt 2/3)
1. Sergey's Childhood Flashback (Major Grom issue 10)

Issue 10 of Major Grom (specifically Sergey's Metamorphosis chapter) is possibly one of my favorites in the entire series, and it's what got me into Major Grom/Plague Doctor in the first place. Aside from the art being absolutely gorgeous, it's one of the most important chapters in the series because it's the first time Phobs is in charge of the writing in a very dominating and significant way. Before this chapter, the OG Major Grom series was a completely different story with a conventional "off-the-grid cop vs leftwing revolutionary terrorist" plot with a traditional detective comic aesthetic and more focus on big action and world building than character-driven drama. This chapter, by comparison, is COVERED in Phob's influence, and it's from this point forward that his writing style lays the foundation for the rest of the series, and it starts with THIS PAGE RIGHT HERE.
Before this chapter, we frankly don't know anything about Sergey that makes him meaningfully redeemable or likeable (aside from his revolutionary rhetoric, but that was later deflated and replaced with a ridiculously criminal motivation specifically designed to deter sympathizers). Phobs essentially rewrites Sergey's character to take a less ideological and more personalized tone that focuses on humanizing him (which also inspires the creation of Bird as essentially a scapegoat for Sergey's past terrorism). This glimpse into his backstory, laden with vibrant yet soft dreamlike colors, communicates things we have already known about Sergey but in a more empathetic package. We see his love for fine art, his ostracization, his peers' early assumptions of his criminality and deviancy, all with the tragedy of that lost innocence coupled with his adult indignation. Ugh, I just love it. Sergey also looks so ridiculously gorgeous in this chapter.
Hands down, my single favorite page and moment in the entire series. Nothing can compete in my eyes.
2. Lera Post-Massacre Scene (Plague Doctor Issue 5)

Long story short, this page fucks cuz it's Lera's TURNING POINT as a character and what later inspires her assumption of the Plague Doctor as an ideological identity rather than a (forced) occupation. Her pacifism, sense of responsibility, and her adoption of a broken world are all communicated in this scene. Her isolation is also made extremely potent; she's now an "outlaw" and cannot reenter normal society where her parents & everyone else occupy, but she's not entirely off-the-grid like Sergey and Oleg are. She's between both worlds with either side unable to fully accommodate her.
KaySD (the artist of this page) perfectly captures the dread and self-blame of this page in a way that reflects Lera's overwhelming feeling of responsibility coupled with the crushing inability to CONFIDE in anyone about it. The stomach-sinking feeling is palpable. It rings like a point of no return, and it reminds me of a previous page from chapter 2:

Vampire Vs Werewolf
The vampire can be symbolizing many things-the conflicted about sex, race, and the immortality self but ultimately it symbolizes the evil. In the early history of vampire, it was believed that witches, who commit suicides were considered evil in life became vampires because the evil couldn’t be killed. Vampires were blamed for deaths of cattle and other animals and everything else that went wrong, so it was the evil of it all. Hollywood has been politicized the way vampires in our contemporary culture. The fictional vampires are good looking with a certain vulnerability to engage our sympathy as well as our revulsion. Hollywood conducted around the mythology of vampires, the symbolization of evil, sexuality, blood, and the night. The gothic genre coalesces around the vampire in the supernatural or inexplicable events, such as human coming to life, ghosts, spirits and of course vampires. Most of the stories that we heard are follows the conventions of fear and horror upon the supernatural elements like ghost spirit or vampire sucking blood. The anxieties that revealed through the concept of the vampires are the broader concerns about the institutions, social relations, child rearing, science, and spirituality. We fear our ability not be able to fight against the evils to protect our loved ones or ourselves. The problematic of racial/ gender stereotypes are reinforced throughout our history as well as by the concept of vampires. The gothic figure of the vampire may come to embody racial stereotypes and dominant fear about black men and women through representations of the vampire of American popular film. In the queen of the damn, the mother of vampires has represented as a black woman control all power of all the vampires. Whether human or vampires, race is a social construction.
The werewolf can be symbolizing varies things, but it represents our most base instincts, the untamed wildness, the animal side of our nature. In storytelling, the werewolf must be some part of the human begin- a part of us which is deep-rooted and possibly accessible. It also could be madness, which the full moon symbolizes that because the full moon is known to associate with episodes of mental distress and illness. The fears and anxieties that exemplified through the werewolf are humans. Humans are afraid of becoming one themselves because who would want to transform into a wolf and have animal instincts that cannot be controlled. This fear is understandable because we as humans are tempted to be afraid of the unknown. The werewolf was created to trigger our earliest fears by half human and half animal that hunted the living. In the modern time, werewolf seems to be reflected anxieties about the border between western civilization, male sexual deviance and religious uncertainty. The representation of our fears of bestiality and animalistic parts of ourselves are demonstrated through our uncontrollable primitive natures. It's natural to have desires of sexual nature but the risk and fear of the result of these desires can have very negative results. People can be vulnerable to the point of no turning back to a place of safety and control. Rape is often worrisome for someone who participates in sexual activities. The werewolf is of a violent and primal nature with whom can be unpredictable and forceful. The werewolves have evolved in our imagination through Hollywood films. From the film's teen wolf to twilight, werewolves have been portrayed as not only trustworthy and protector but even good guys. Often finding love with a feminine human of a beauty.
The vampire and werewolf are similar in that they are both mythological creatures with supernatural abilities. They both symbolize the devil through a humanoid pathway. However, the vampire and the werewolf are often depicted as enemies of each other. An example of this is in the movie Twilight. This film showcases to exposing creatures battling one another with human romantic interests between them. They became popular among young teens and young adults. Those were captivating with the series were asked to choose between “Team Edward” and “Team Jacob”, claiming their public interest to the supernatural boyfriend for the series' females lead character. The fear from these monsters has been removing with the romanization through pop culture’s love affair. The werewolf and vampire have taken the sexual tendency as its new output. Werewolves are the focus of humanity. They give in to their impulses and desires in forms beyond the physical and associated with the nature and the loss of control in favor of naturalism. They transformed into an animalistic form, vent those aggressions in a more naturalistic way against the unfeeling and inhuman violence of long-distance warfare. They offer a form of the fullest expression of self with no memory or responsibility for their actions. Also, they are representing the loss of control and losing identity to the passions. A werewolf has the ability to destroy and gained physical power, but this power is more bind than an offering of more complete self-determination because it’s a misleading feeling. In comparison, vampires represent a sense of super perfect self. In the modern world, the vampire is stylish, sexual, socially acceptable and wealthy, the perfect men for modern women. Vampires became beautiful monsters rather than living corpses. They got all the benefits of living in the past and ongoing life, not changing, not aging and not decaying. In the media, werewolves made the connection with the hippies, counter-culture warriors' hunger for a more expressive time, a man that given the freedom to howl. Human werewolf, you’ll notice the physical form with longer hair, sideburns or facial hair, strong build and someone withdrawal from society. In comparison to vampire, they always groomed, with no facial hair, slicked back hair kept short, fashionable attires and wealthy. In present, the media have formed a new representation that responded to the increasing a romanization of these monsters. Are they even consider monsters anymore? The monsters that used to be uncontrollable are now controllable, they are no longer monsters. Although Pop culture may have distilled these monsters down to two hot men, women desire but there’s so much beyond that that reach out to concerns in our culture.

Queer Theory/Modernism vs Postmodernism/Determinism/Feminist Theory
QUEER PostMoDeterimnist?

Queer Theory: Queer is an umbrella term of peculiarity because it has no set stone identity on sexual identity and can include anyone who identifies to one of the following: lesbian, gay, bisexual or transgender. Or it can also be used by people who don’t label themselves but find themselves apart of this spectrum or someone who is QUESTIONING their sexuality and identity, which can explain the use of the letter Q in queer. The purpose of the queer theory introduced through multiple sources by reappearing in critical and cultural contexts. The theory is used to reshape our two gendered identities for uniting rather than queerphobia. Theorists worth mentioning who helped establish the theory we recognize today are, Micheal Foucault, Gayle Rubin, Eve Kosofsky Sedgweck, and Judith Butler.
Their contributions:
Micheal Foucault
Foucault argued on the biological and social identity and that everyday notions can redconfine the gender norms of masculinity and femininity which causes oppression.
Gayle Rubin
Gayle Robin contributed through her essay “Thinking Sex,” in support to Foucault's theory based on actions against norms being the lead to oppression because society is hierarchically organized. In her essay, “A Traffic for Women” she states,
Sex is sex, but what counts as sex is equally culturally determined and obtained. Every society also has a sex/gender system - a set of arrangements by which the biological raw material of human sex and procreation is shaped by human, social intervention and satisfied in a conventional manner, no matter how bizarre some of the conventions may be.” (Rubin, 32)
Eve Sedgweck
“Epistemology of the Closet” was Sedgwecks contribution as she argued sexuality in understanding our culture through various texts.
an understanding of virtually any aspect of modern Western culture must be, not merely incomplete, but damaged in its central substance to the degree that it does not incorporate a critical analysis of modern homo/heterosexual definition. (1990, p. 1)
This reference argues the incoherence of westerns definition of sexuality, therefore it must be redefined rather than create a binary system within gender identity.
For some some people, the preference for a certain sexual object, act, role, zone, or scenario is so immemorial and durable that it can only be experienced as innate; for others, it appears to come late or to feel aleatory or discretionary. For some people, the possibility of bad sex is aversive enough that their lives are strongly marked by its avoidance, for others, it isn’t. For some people, sexuality provides a needed space of heightened discovery and cognitive hyperstimulation. For others, sexuality provides a needed space of routinized habitation and cognitive hiatus. (1990, p.25)
This passage takes into regard our individuality and cultural differences as a concept to the queer theory is cultural intelligence because it is not a affair within limitations, it is universally contradicted.
Judith Butler
Butler focuses on feminist issues, however there is direct intersections between her ideals of feminism and the queer theory in her book Gender Trouble which looks at gender identity through performativity, the physical attributes that many don’t have the accessibility to.
...the repeated stylization of the body, a set of repeated acts within a highly rigid regulatory frame that congeal over time to produce the appearance of substance, of a natural sort of being. (Butler, p.33)
Our composed norms of appearance should be destigmatized because we constantly judge on appearance. For an example we have classified lesbian women into two categories, those who present themselves through “masculine” traits and those who are extremely “feminine”. Therefore appearance interferes with distinction, “Very distinctions between the natural and the artificial, depth and surface, inner and outer through which discourse about genders almost always operates.” (Butler)

Modernism vs Postmodernism: Modernism is the drastic change in culture during the late nineteenth century and early 20th century which could be shown in art, literature, music and architecture.Postmodernism began after modernism as it was redefined to postmodernism during the late 20th century because there was a paradigm shift of art into philosophy, school of thoughts, critics, art and architecture through questioning ideologies acquired.
The queer theory itself is a result to postmodernism because for generations sexuality has always been under debate and the theorists mentioned beforehand came forward with their art for social change. “Our working hypothesis is that the status of knowledge is altered as societies enter what is known as the postindustrial age and cultures enter what is known as postmodern age.” (Lyotard) This was extracted from A Report on Knowledge by Jean-Francois Lyotard. There is a significance in knowledge and understanding and postmodernism contradicts theories to enhance accurate, scientific data beyond biblical teachings against queer teachings.
Modernism consisting of queer art yet it was not identified or praised over therefore it is difficult to re-confine in but it is existent during the twentieth century. “The Queer British Art (1861-1967)” suggests homosexuality in displayed in art as the exhibition in London is being decoded due to the fact that being queer was unthinkable and prior, males hide their identity through slang to identify one another and build a community. Therefore art work could have possibly been a hint yet not directly stated because of the fear of death. Edmund Dulac’s “Charles Ricketts and Charles Shannon as Medieval Saints,” from the 1920’s display two man, one holding a peacock feather. The mythology behind the peacock feather is as a protector, what do these men fear for sitting naked side by side as shown in another art piece I've attached featured in the gallery?

Determinism: It is looking at current status quo that remain fixated as our futures are defined by our pasts, yet that does not me the chain cannot be unbroken. Based on my theory of QUEER PostMoDeterimnist I would like to acknowledge the presence of determinism and the fact that we constantly define our futures based on our past, but refuse to resolve the status quo. The queer theory has not been addressed and it dates back to religious beliefs and attribute still associated and present today which creates a feud in arguing the notions of gender identity because of the unchanged nature of “deviance” attributed with religions.
The theory of Determinism, in which the will is determined or swayed to a particular course by external inducements and forced habits, so that the consciousness or freedom rests chiefly upon an oblivion of the antecedents of our choice. (Tomson, 1855)
This supports the fact that everything can be explained and determined. Our history and acts of ignorance towards queers support this idea because it is still present and to overcome it we must overcome the determined future to outrule the past and contradict the theory of determinism. The Bible is constantly used to condemn LGBTQ members is under the Christain Bible Saint Paul says, “you shall not lie with a man as one lies with a female; it is an abomination.” But the Bible is abruptly told through storytellers, who avoid topics concerning sexuality in our historical evaluation, but that does not mean it was not present.
We will tell you that 20,000 years of evolution of, societal evolution, has taught us the same thing that a society that embraces homosexuality is a society that will not last much longer. Anybody who’s studied history knows that. (Michael Savage, 2006)
But as well it can support the idea that being queer has always been present, an unchangeable entity to contradict those against it that claim they must “heal” LGBTQ members. For that to be done we must decode our historical roots through modernism. It was present even before the nineteenth century and found in 7th century B.C.E art.
Sexual and romantic relationships between older males were ridiculed at various times in Greek and Roman history, as in the case of Julius Caesar's affair with King Nicomedes of Bithynia. The negative feelings toward such relationships arose from a belief that an adult male who assumed a passive role in sex was likely to do the same in his political life. This certainly was not true in Julius Caesar’s case. (Williams, 1999)
Many of the historical artworks and artists acknowledges today to support the fact that same sex marriages were actually honored at one point therefore it should be honored today but we ignore historical content and rather than focus teachings within texts on sexuality we focus on the metanarratives, instead we read about riots and ancient cultures. Has any of us learned about gay rights movement in San Francisco? Do we acknowledge that Susan B. Anthony, who fought for women's rights to vote was most likely lesbian? Why did we fear an alliance of feminism and sexuality?

Feminist: The sociology of feminist theory is focusing on of issues concerning female that are generally overlooked such as stereotypes which can interfere with queer identities, oppression economic inequality exclusion, the list is never ending.
The feminist focus to this theory is generally to unite two historical marginalized communities in hopes of addressing the status quo. Society recognizes Queers and feminists but what about queer women, women who identify as lesbian, transgender or bisexual and face confliction between both LGBTQ communities and for being a female. In reference to Laverne Cox, a transgender who faces issues women and LGBTQ indivudals encounter. Feminism will not only bond women, but members struggling to find their identity because feminism is not about female dominance but equality to allow anyone who identify as a female to abide in women empowerment and shift away from gay liberation for their own identity.
Human and sexual life will always be subject to convention and human intervention. It will never be completely “natural” if only because our species is social, cultural, and articulate [...] but the mechanisms and evolution of this process need not be largely independent of conscious choice. Cultural evolution provides us with the opportunity to seize control of the means of sexuality, reproduction, and socialization, and to make conscious decisions to liberate human sexual life from the archaic relationships which deform it. Ultimately, a thoroughgoing feminist revolution would liberate more than women. It will liberate forms of sexual expression, and would liberate human personality from the straight jacket of gender. (Rubin, p.52)
The mid 90’s “Lesbian Avengers”: a group of lesbian women who came forward because they felt on gay rights were issues of focus. While fighting for their sexuality they fought for general women rights such as “free the nipples’ as they went out shirtless and behaved “deviant” and un women like as they recruited other women while partying, in the club etc.

Questions of Concern

Why have we created a barrier between LGBTQ communities and feminist? Are feminist refusing to abide individuals who gave up their freedom and rights as a male?
What truths are being hidden in modernism?
What doe these truths reveal? Does it reshape determinism to be a positive theory or extract or negative?

Who reshaped our ideals of sexuality? Was it present during biblical times? Why is it not mentioned in bible?
How are queers who identify as a women oppressed by not only men but other women?
How can we rewrite the bible to met our modern needs? Or had the bible already been altered? Or simply did we ignore old history? How do we decide out history? Who is writing our history? How to reveal our true historical roots to use determinism to our advantage...
Are all lesbians feminists? Are all feminist lesbians? How do we overcome these stereotypes?


The primary focus of this theory will surround queer women who experience segregation against women including sexism concerning their sexual identification and gender as a whole. This theory will attempt look into the depths of postmodern and modern work to extract the proof of queer communities in our history to support the theory of determinism and contradict religions today to prove queer to not be a “new” idea but in the roots of our history to determine why it is acceptable and not against god's doing. Support my hypothesis of false determinism based on false historical teachings that exclude sexuality not because it was non-existent but it was not spoken about therefore oppression is constantly present. We are determined by religion and must address the status quo against queer and women who are oppressed.
Viewing the present and Future…
To understand the present we must understand the past, therefore truths must be found. This theory will allow us to distigmatize stereotypes. Modernism theory is used to bring back art as a platform to fuse society, not only within the boundaries of my theory focusing on female queers, but humankind. Kodie Shane is one of the few artists who defy gender roles and looks beyond one's gender being our main focus and defining who we are for us because “you gotta be you—all the way,” she says. Songs and artists like Shane should be recognized in mainstream.

My theory will help revamp mainstream art to expand our minds into understanding our historical past and uniting communities. This theory is not attack a specific group, nor is it attacking the government or religions it is only revealing hidden truths because individuals truths have been alter.
Determinism will be used to define the future into its natural roots to reimburse our ideas of relationships and sex to the time of Adam and Eve, maybe not through postmodern views but through the technique of modernism in art to be proof and postmodernism work to be the support.
Ultimately goal is not to strive for perfection because we live in a world of imperfections and countercultures vs subcultures, but the hope is to up-bring a paradigm shift to how we define queer and females in works to disconnect it as a group based identity, but rather solemnly equally associated in society without fear. For the future to be determined on our past, we must leave expanding art to be deconstructed just as generations before us has because ultimately we will never reach a “perfect” universe of acceptance to all.

This article looks at modernism and how it presented forbidden love. LGBTQ communities found ways to find one another without being killed or discovered but to form a group based identity of a group who countercultured solidified norms. Today we can deconstruct the meanings behind many of the artworks, to be beyond beautiful art but art determining or working to understand their identity and question sexuality.

I saw your post about Nicky and it was great! I wanted to ask- have you ever seen/ can you write a similar post criticizing Allison, Neil, and Wymack (but especially allison because the whole fandom worships the ground she walks on) for their ableist behavior? I understand Andrew didn’t endear anyone to him, especially Allison, but smth about a canonically bipolar character who’s severely traumatized “monster” and “ps*cho” on the regular really rubs me the wrong way

no unfortunately i can’t write such a post for several reasons: firstly, i don’t know nearly enough about ableism or mental illnesses. secondly, i don’t think that nora really managed to portray andrew as bipolar in the books. i don’t know a lot about bipolar disorder but what i know doesn’t in any way correspond with how he acts. i know that nora said he’s bipolar in the extra content, but i disagree. in my opinion he just has severe ptsd.
and thirdly i believe that violent or offensive behaviors should always be called out and people with mental illnesses shouldn’t be an exception. however, what we have in aftg isn’t as simple. i mean i think when andrew does something extreme, the others are totally allowed to have a problem with that. but what they also do is stylize him into a psychotic monster on the basis of every behavior they deem deviant, not just the extreme or violent ones. andrew doesn’t want to socialize with them - well, that’s because he’s crazy (nevermind that he has no obligation to like or impress people, especially the ones that already have prejudice against him). andrew doesn’t want to really try at exy - that’s also because he’s crazy (nevermind that he still makes like at least 30-40% of their victories possible). andrew threatens nicky and kevin with knives - that’s cause he’s crazy and violent (nevermind that he made abundantly clear that he doesn’t like to be touched and they disregarded him). this last example is my favorite because in today’s society something as trivial as being touch averse and not wanting to accept casual touches even from friends and family is somehow deemed a deviant behavior on the basis of which a person can be classified as weird - which leads to situations in media and in real life where people will try to touch or hug touch averse people ‘just to show them that it’s okay and good’, just to ‘cure’ them of their deviancy. so i consider this whole situation an overarching problem and such displays of ableism as calling andrew crazy or monster just the symptoms of it.
lol you asked me one thing and i turned my answer into a mini essay about how aftg is a commentary on deviant behaviors vs social conventions. sorry not sorry. but generally i’d like the fandom to engage with aftg and its characters more deeply and critically, so if someone writes a post about ableism i’ll be happy to read it and educate myself.
