Leah Williamson x Reader
A/n I’m literally just clearing drafts at the moment, shitty writing
The phone screen illuminates Leah’s face as she bites her thumbnail, the room is dark, the sun long since gone but she can’t seem to find sleep not when you are racing around her mind endlessly back and forth, she’s entranced by you, she wants to know more about you, wants to know YOU and so she finds herself here at 2am reading about the GAA (Gaelic Athletic Association)
About November 1 1884, about Hurling and Camogie, the All Irelands, the All Ireland finals and Croke Park and the more she reads the more she feels like she knows you, understands you that little bit more.
She’s an athlete, she understands the sense of community, the big games, the important finals, the Emirates, Wembley they hold just as much importance, passion even as playing at Croke Park, and Páirc Uí Chaoimh.
But it’s different and she doesn’t understand it till you text her inviting her to the All Irelands Hurling final.
You’re hair is tied back half up half down with a woollen plaited string done out in red and white, your cheeks are painted with little flags sporting the cork colours and Leah can’t help but want to join in, so you paint her cheeks too, little flags on her cheeks as she holds your waist and stares at you, watching you work.
She sports a Cork jersey, your cork jersey to be exact, the one you got playing county last season the number seven proudly shown on her chest and back, your last name doesn’t appear on the back of the jersey not that it needs to, you’re the most popular player on the team, everyone knows you sport seven, for club and county.
Even the people up here in Dublin know as they stop you for photos and autographs, Leah can’t help but watch in awe, sure this happens at home but it’s her job, her full time job, you, you’re a teacher at the local primary school like most GAA players that’s your full time job, she knows cause you’ve gotten spotted by a few of your students calling you Miss and it’s something she can’t wrap her head around.
Hill 16 is where it all kicks off like it does at every final, add the fact that Cork might just win their first hurling final since 2005 and the tension seems to build just a bit more.
Leah’s read up on the rules, googled the players and the bainisteoir but still she lets you tell her the rules, list off the players and explain why after all this time Cork might just win their first final in 20 years.
The pyros spark and the chants for the rebels kicks off and Leah can’t help but just watch you, watch you scream and jump around, watch you grab her arm or her hand nervously.
You turn and laugh at the look of surprise on Leah’s face as the chant carry’s across Croke Park “oh to, oh to be, oh to be a rebel.” The crowd shouts. “Well they’ve knicked at one.” She laughs, you laugh too head thrown back your hand still in hers.
Leah loves Arsenal, with her whole entire heart, she’s Arsenal through and through, she doesn’t have an interest in following any other sports team one is enough, or so she thought but she finds herself chanting along with the crowd on Hill 16, with you.
She finds herself watching you and the lads on the pitch, gasping and grabbing at you in anticipation.
Corks red she thinks, Arsenal is red too, GAA as a whole is steeped in history just like her club and it’s you, it’s who you are so maybe she’ll make room to support Cork and Killeagh, she’s definitely not giving you your jersey back.
