one reason why I hate the "how can you like 11 guys chasing a ball xdxddxdxdxd" especially from my nerdy friends, it's because you could use that against everything "how can you like some guy playing piano xddxdxd how can you like some girl painting xdxddx how can you like some guy studying galaxies xdxddxd", sports, like art and science, are expressions of what the human body and spirit can do, and they are fascinating to watch and experience, they give hope and joy to people, just like an artist or a scientist does. We do art because that's what human creativity can do, we do science because that's what human intelligence can do, and we do sports because that's what the human body can do.

There's a lot that's wrong with modern spectator sports, as with any activity under our current capitalist model, but any great society should promote and cherish sports as expresions of the human spirit. In a future with social justice where people have free time to do as they wish, sports should be available to anyone and their triumphs cherished, because they show what humans can do, and especially in team sports, what they can do together.
