I'm also still thinking about the House of Húrin name origin breakdown I did the other day, and specifically about how all 35 named members of the house of the Stewards have names in an Elvish language.

As I mentioned in that post, the language is Sindarin most of the time: a whopping 27 out of 35 members of the house have wholly Sindarin names. It's not surprising, given that Gondorian Sindarin is one of the main languages Pippin hears in Minas Tirith (the home city and power base of the Stewards for many centuries at this point). Some of the other names from the House of Húrin are Quenya—and Tolkien implied that many of the earlier unnamed members would have had Quenya names, as a privilege/status marker of their royal blood—and one name is Nandorin (Denethor). None of these 35 names contain any elements of Adûnaic or another originally Mannish language; instead, all the family names are of wholly Elvish origin, linguistically.

That could seem to be a byproduct of Gondorian nostalgia, the glorification of anything associated with Elves and an attempt to link themselves with that prestige, with the great Elvish houses of the First Age, etc, and I've repeatedly seen it attributed to that. However, the only other Gondorian noble family we're given any detail about, the House of Dol Amroth, does use Adûnaic as well as Sindarin elements in the known names from their family, even though we're given far fewer of those names (and they never use Quenya, though they may be legally prohibited from doing so).

As a further complication, a good number of the members of the House of Húrin are obviously namesakes of prominent historical figures, but the vast majority are named for other humans with Elvish names rather than directly for Elves. The avoidance of Mannish-language names alongside a strong preference for honoring Men in their choices seems much less about Elves (glorified or not) and much more likely to be about Sindarin-language Númenórean traditions throughout the last several thousand years of their own history. Gondorians call it Elvish for historical reasons, but IMO the Elves are not really their main association with Sindarin or Quenya.

I think, culturally, that for most Gondorians and certainly for the Stewards, Sindarin is far less associated with the literal Sindar (or Elves period) than with the Bëorians and their Faithful descendants millennia before the Stewards' time. Quenya is less about Noldor than it is about Númenórean royalty (in Gondor, Arnor, or Númenor itself) from a Gondorian perspective. Even when Dúnedain could expect to live for multiple centuries, the last thousands of years of their own history would still be far more pertinent to their values and their sense of what is prestigious or worthy of honor than whatever Elves were up to at any time. And the Stewards' ancestors, apart from Anárion, were a Sindarin-speaking Faithful family. I'm guessing they care a lot more about honoring that legacy than about First Age Elves.

did you know that acht gives eight a mobility chip in the trailer but a power chip in the actual game? bc i didn't notice until after i'd already finished making the mobility one. so i've got a spare chip i guess

the dogtags were kind of a spur-of-the-moment creative liberty. i had the jelleton one sitting around from some experiments with composite filaments, and while i was brainstorming a way to incorporate acht's cool fish hook into the cosplay without needing to actually get my ears pierced it all sorta clicked together. i made the ident tag shortly afterwards and swiftly forgot what the text says :P

idk if it counts as part of the cosplay but i also add a leather jacket when my arms get cold. i think it goes hard

A non-choreographed game hosted by Blood of Heroes [two knights can grab the skull and run it to the end-line. If hit on the helmet, they kneel for ten seconds. Either remaining carrier can steal the skull and run to their end. Other knights must protect their skull runner] + various cosplays I saw around the faire! The templar trooper called me a heretic upon learning that Merrill is a blood mage… I said, "I may be an apostate, but-" and then took off running lol

I saw: Many a hobbit, many a Shrek, various Star Wars x medieval themed armors, several colonial outfits, four Gandalfs, three types of witchers, three Tavs, three Captain Jack Sparrows, two Maleficents, Legolas, Astarion, Gale, Karlach, Jaheira, Ciri, Aloy, The Hunter, King Baldwin IV, and a person in green goblin make-up with a shirt that read PARTY GOBLIN! My brother saw a lot of anime cosplays and kept pointing them out to me. He also saw a christ cosplay and went "Jesus!!" and they responded "My child 😇❤️" while walking past

At least the weather was relatively cooler than it has been for the past few weeks. I saw a lot of faire-goers in black 🙈 The mandalorian had a mic inside their helmet hooked up to a speaker on their shoulder, so you could hear them very clearly. Cool stuff!

My other housemate has only watched a few episodes from the ST marathon and none of the movies (and has kind of magically escaped a lot of pop culture awareness), but that was enough for her (someone with her own deep investment in very different fandoms) to be O_O at the Kirk and Spock interactions.

We were talking about how shitty the parent corporations etc were towards many slash shippers of the 70s and 80s, and she was like, "I don't really get why anyone would be mad about people seeing their particular relationship as romantic, it's just... this isn't coming out of nowhere. There's a lot of intensity and they obviously care deeply."

me: Yeah, the series finale includes Kirk saying that Spock is closer to him than anyone else in the universe.
