should there be personifications for ethic groups living in countries? assuming that country personifications are the majority ethnicity. e.g. china/wang yao being han chinese.

though im torn between creating ethnic group personifications or headcanoning the countries as mixed with all the ethnicities in their country. hetalia fandom, i wanna know your thoughts about this!

I think one thing I actually like about Hetalia is the fact that people can use it to explore other countries and cultures, particularly their own, in a very unique way! This sort of creativity and flexibility is something I don't see all that often, even in other country personification series, like SATW and Lullindo!

ooh to interject myself into the snake yao conversation i think that hm aside from hk + tw, japan the koreas and macau should be able to tell when yao's Scheming because they did grow up under his influence! they might not know exactly what he's planning, but they do know he's plotting all right. imo to detract a bit from Who Can Tell When Yao's Scheming, even for nations that can't it's an open secret to most of east + southeast asia that yao is a scheming, awful bastard. so many countries here have had contact with china, or what was to become china, for 1-2 thousand years (i think i've kinda forgotten the dates) . also i don't think the current personifications would've formed then (more research needed), but there are many sea ethnic groups that experts spectulate from their myths emigrated down from the yellow river, and some are confirmed to have moved from southern china (especially yunnan). my theory is that nations can sometimes have memories from before they were "born", so i think at least a few of these sea nations would've been getting suspicious Vibes based off eerie flashes of memory from yao when they meet, which might uhhh later be confirmed. also agree on indran being able to tell when yao's being a bastard!! like. do you ever think of that concept of 知己. and Know it's them? yeah. anyway some sea personifications can't tell as well as most of the ea ones when yao's scheming but all of them are always somewhat on guard around him anyway as they probably should be...

yesss ok this is really interesting. I agree that pretty much all the East + SE Asians just Know not to trust Yao even if they can’t always pick apart what he’s planning at any moment. I’ve also seen headcanons where Yao’s got vibes that are somehow different from other nations, that he’s somehow more supernatural and eldritch than some of the young’uns that are more human, and I feel like that also might put others on edge. You walk up to this guy and he automatically makes you feel cautious, unsettles you, even though he looks like a normal late-twenties guy and acts like some weird old grandpa. A more concise summary would probably be this shitpost, but more unsettling and less joke-like

Anyways I love that headcanon that the nations can carry memories that came about from before they as a personification existed! That would be super interesting, to have memories that aren't really yours but that feel like they came from a "past life". And :0 I didn't know that about the origins of the people from SEA countries! from quickly skimming the web it also seems like a fair few groups (the austronesians) migrated from Taiwan? which, although the Qing annexation of Taiwan happened way later, could also contribute to the Eerie vibe factor ig.

YES to India and Iran knowing what Yao's up to. The other two just Know whenever one of them is scheming and at least have a vague idea of what the scheming is about. Also yeah, I think Yao's got a reputation of scheming his way to power so just because of prior experience, many countries would be put off. As you said, less countries would know when exactly he's putting his plans into operation as you said, and a fair few of those countries are East Asians because isn't it great to have a bastard neighbor who keeps you on your toes like that? :) but mostly I think the anon was talking about whether they know what he's scheming, which is harder to tell and less countries know precisely what his plans are. Maybe not even himself.

Hey, I am so sorry to bother you but you seemed like the best ask blog to ask so here it goes. I remember that you mentioned before the Three Kingdoms of Korea and i was wondering why didn't you exactly say that Goguryeo was North Korea? (Since I personally that the three kingdom could mean that APH south Korea (Sills at the time) was a triplet and not a twin like many seem to depict in their fanfics/fanarts)

Anyways lmao tbh well I didn’t say that Goguryeo is NK explicitly bc I really didn’t know a whole lot about Korean history back then (and probably not enough now either) and I didn’t wanna make specific claims on this blog that I might come to regret after becoming more informed 😂

But now that I look at it, yeah I think NK can be Goguryeo! Like Goguryeo would survive after Silla conquered it and become Balhae—a Korean Kingdom in the north, founded by a military officer from Goguryeo. Balhae forced Silla back down south and established the North-South state period in 698 CE. So that historical North/South divide is probably prevalent enough to warrant two different personification for the Korean Peninsula.

And on the notes about the twin/triplet thing, I don’t see them as such, but I don’t have a problem with twin representation since it’s carries more symbolic weight and symbolism can make some good angsty fics/art ;w;. I personally headcanon the three Korean kingdoms to be siblings since they do have various time and causes of establishment and have different paths/levels of developments. I like to think Goguryeo as the oldest (the intense overachiever big bro whose little siblings all walk deeply in his shadows), Baekje second (the artsy and cultured sister whose style you copied bc they’re just so cool!), and Silla is the smol young boi (that sociable yet cunning little bastard who can do whatever he wants because he’s gained grandmama’s favor) XD

And, again, here’s my standard disclaimer: I’m pretty ignorant when it comes to history outside of America, China, and maybe a little bit of Europe... like just a tiny bit for flavor lmao. Feel free to fact check & send in more info about other countries’ history!
