Transformers
War For Cybertron
Covert Agent Ravage & Decepticons Forever Ravage
by Hasbro (2021)
This arrived in the mail on 10-29-21
This set was a Hasbro Pulse exclusive which I pre-ordered while traveling en route to TFcon 2021.
Covert Agent Ravage made an appearance in Beast Wars nearing the close of the second season. He was the same Ravage as best known in G1 Transformers however rebuilt as a Predacon.
Sadly he didn’t make an appearance in the Netflix Kingdom series, and I think that was a bit of a waste, since I thought Kingdom was the strongest out of the Netflix seasons and I believe Predacon Ravage would have would have been worked.
G1 Ravage:
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Beast Mode:
Ravage’s beast mode is a jaguar, however unlike his Japanese 90s Transmetal version this Ravage is how he probably would have looked in season one with fur texture.
He’s a heavy retool of the Kingdom Cheetor and Shadow Panther mold.
Transformation:
Robot Mode:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Accessories:
Ravage comes with two large hand blasters. It's probably very useful for assassinations
Tumblr media
Final Thoughts:
Kingdom Ravage is a fun toy. If you decide to keep it in the box, you've got a fun display diorama, and if you're remove it it's a fun toy.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
I still mostly prefer the original Beast Wars Metals version, but the new one has a stronger head sculpt, and the head can also move.

Transformers: Mosaic #25 - "Obedience"

wada sez: This strip expands on the events of “The Agenda”, in which the Tripredacus Council sends covert agent Ravage to prehistoric Earth to apprehend rogue Predacon Megatron, without the Maximals finding out. The use of the word “agenda” in dialogue, and Ravage’s final remark, are both in reference to that three-parter. The strip particularly focuses on tying Beast Wars to Generation 1, showing a deceased Soundwave, but wisely doesn’t link it specifically to the Sunbow or Marvel continuity. As seen in “The Agenda”, Ravage’s lingering loyalty to the original Megatron ends up influencing his decisions. See below for the original art and close-ups.

Hello! How about Minimus/Ravage(covert agent from Beast Wars flavour) as a request? Thank you!
I'm going to be honest, I never expected to write something quite like this. This was tricky to think of an idea for at first, but then it hit me.
Allow me to present: Maximal!Minimus. A triple drabble. To be crossposted later.
Title: How To Spot A Cop Continuity: Beast Wars (no specific iteration) Rating: General Relationship: Minimus/Ravage Characters: Minimus & Ravage
Summary: In which Minimus's stakeout does not go as planned.
Crossposting: In a reblog
Fic below cut
Law enforcement had always been a delicate operation at Minimus’s height. Even for a Maximal, he tended to be considered “underfoot” in comparison to his brethren. It had taken him centuries to be taken seriously in his chosen role, but now here he was, surveying a black Predacon, Ravage, go about his “business” in a tavern. The Predacon, notable for his associations with the Tripedacus Council and for his status as an original Decepticon who underwent a reformat at the end of the War. Minimus’s superiors had wanted him to get a sense for what this… unusual Predacon might be getting up to.
Listening to the barkeep talk about… something, Ravage’s ears twitched. He hesitated, tail swatting at the air when the barkeep turned away. Then he… walked right up to Minimus’s booth.
That wasn’t supposed to happen.
No, no, no!
What he had done wrong?
Minimus, now struggling to look calm, had even arrived early to get settled in a corner where he hopefully wouldn’t have been easily spotted. He’d even covered his badge!
In moments, Ravage stopped at the edge of the table, tapping it slowly with one claw as he loomed over Minimus.
“Ordering a complicated mixed drink without engex in a Predacon bar was a poor cover choice, little Maximal.”
That was definitely the beginnings of regret in his spark. Maybe if he showed a fang or two, he could—Ravage kept talking.
“And is there a particular reason the Maximals sent their smallest officer to keep tabs on me?”
“Now see here, I am simply enjoying a pleasant drink at my favorite establishment—“
Ravage slid into the booth, opposite Minimus, dangerously teeth bared in a broad toothy grin.
“It seems to me like you could use some tips, from one brother in arms to another.”

Analyzing Soundwave’s Design...
I’ve been wondering about this for a long time. About why Soundwave’s design has so many bio-lights showing?!
Tumblr media
Considering only a few bots have this feature, I wasn’t sure if it was an aesthetic choice, or somehow part of Cybertronian biology. After awhile it dawned on me that the bio-lights may be an indicator of weak points, like bare skin showing beneath armor. Or to put it in their terms, their proto-form showing beneath protective layers of plating.
I noticed how Megatron’s frame is so well armored on the front side, because his fighting style is so direct and he rarely gets hit from behind, that he doesn’t have as much heavy plating on his back. So some purplish protoform is showing but it doesn’t really have any glow, unless he’s under the influence of Dark Energon...
Tumblr media
And a few of the Autobots like Bumblebee, Ultra Magnus and Smokescreen especially, have extra bio-lights showing...maybe because they’re built for speed and Magnus for strength, so they don’t have a lot of heavy armor that would cover up these vulnerable spots.
Tumblr media
Shockwave I don’t have an explanation for...other than he was just designed to look cool...Or perhaps his bio-lights are more pronounced because of enhancements he made to his own frame. And the additional lighting just emphasizes his charged up Energon use, as result of his own upgrades to his strength and firepower, result of scientific experimentation to make himself better and stronger...
Tumblr media
But Soundwave...he has the most bio-lights showing of any other character. And to me, it looks like he’s literally the bare-bones of what he once was...
Tumblr media
In flashbacks, Soundwave definitely had a frame to rival Megatron. Maybe not as tall but quite bulky and imposing, and of note, not too many bio-lights showing...except for those vulnerable and exposed areas of protoform between joints...
Tumblr media
The collective consensus seems to be, even if it wasn’t confirmed in the show, that most likely this bulkiness came from Soundwave’s symbiotic minicons. Even though the Transformers: Exodus novel mentioned Soundwave having hundreds of minicons, I’m sure the ones who bulked up his frame into this look were probably his well-known partners: Laserbeak, Ravage, Rumble, Frenzy...and maybe the other two, Rat Bat and Buzzsaw. Looking at the differences in his Gladiator frame verses his current one, it’s possible his minicons connected to and bulked up both his arms, his chest and back, to give him the edge in a fight and could be deployed and act as his back-up fighters and personal spy force. But since only Laserbeak remains in TFP, Soundwave has downsized considerably and is quite possibly the most vulnerable he’s ever been.
Definitely a good reason why Soundwave was rarely sent out on missions, and remained safe on the warship. And what missions he was sent on were always covert and non-confrontational. Even going so far as to play a recording of Agent Fowler with the command to evacuate a satellite command center, so he wouldn’t be bothered by human interference.
Tumblr media
Whenever he did encounter an enemy he usually made a quick exit without much damage. But then later on in Season 2, when the Autobots and Decepticons were both in a race to retrieve Iacon relics, Soundwave was sent out, to probably the most remote location, [besides Antarctica where Optimus encountered Dreadwing and they fought to obtain the Apex Armor] ...assuming there would be no conflict. Until Wheeljack showed up. Caught off-guard maybe, but choosing to stand his ground, Soundwave held his own against the wildest card the Autobots had! And though he sustained minor injury, momentarily overwhelmed by the Wrecker, he still managed to beat Wheeljack with the Resonance Blaster he’d uncovered and was the ONLY Decepticon to successfully retrieve a relic during that time.
Tumblr media
Even when he ‘failed’ later on in Season 3, getting shot down by a larger and more powerful Optimus Prime, and captured by the Autobots...
Tumblr media
...he still won because Laserbeak was still functioning, found the Autobot base by tracking Agent Fowler, and Soundwave easily disabled Bulkhead and Smokescreen with electric shocks and took Ratchet captive as per Megatron’s new instructions. He and Laserbeak alone accomplished what all the other Decepticons had been trying to do for weeks...
Tumblr media
But back to the thoughts before, it just impresses me a lot about Soundwave. That despite his now diminished frame, he never lost his capability and presence as a strong fighter...a gladiator. He is the perfect compliment to Megatron’s fighting style. Soundwave is a long-distance fighter, using his opponent’s strength against them, prefers covert operations to direct conflict but will not back down in a one-on-one fight.
Tumblr media
Cunning as well as powerful, merciless as well as efficient. The perfect shadow fighter in Megatron’s army...!
[Though someone else will have to help me understand how in Season 3 he was suddenly able to open up Space Bridges with his mind...but that’s a discussion for another day.]

the racism and imperial ambitions of Kew Gardens, plant-collecting expeditions, major scientific institutions of Europe, especially between 1700 and 1900, etc., were merely “covert”? just a little bit “problematic”?
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The Natural History Museum is planing to review its collections following fears from museum bosses that they could cause offence. A review has been commissioned in the wake of the Black Lives Matter movement, which will include an audit of the statues, rooms and individual items which staff members think show "legacies of colonies, slavery and empire".
In documents [...], the executive board told staff the museum would undertake a review into room names, statues and collections [...]. According to the paper, one curator said "science, racism and colonial power were inherently entwined", and that any collections deemed "problematic" could be renamed or even removed. [...]
It is thought the review will look at the Charles Darwin collection, whose trip to the Galapagos Islands on HMS Beagle was cited by a curator as one of Britain's many "colonialist scientific expeditions". The documents said “museums were put in place to legitimise a racist ideology”, and that “covert racism, exists in the gaps between the displays”. However, speaking to The Standard, a spokesperson for The Natural History Museum said: "Recently we started a review to better understand the history of our institution as a historical and contemporary global collection of natural history specimens.”

Headline, photo, tw!tt*r screencap, and text from: Duffield. “Natural History Museum is due to review ...” Evening Standard. 7 September 2020.
----
Stuff:
- Charles Darwin considered Indigenous people of Tierra del Fuego as less intelligent/sentient than domesticated dogs; Carl Linnaeus explicitly and directly plotting colonization and calling Southeast Asian, Latin American Indigenous, and Chinese people “barbaric”, “poor”, etc.
-  The tale of breadfruit domestication, the mutiny on the Bounty, and plantation owners plotting with Kew Gardens to take plants from Indigenous Polynesians and domesticate crops to undermine slave gardens in the Caribbean.
–  “Ghostly non-places; settler-colonial hallucinations and fantasy visions; monstrous plants and animals; hiding, destroying, re-making ecological worlds; permanent cataclysm; the horror of settlement”: Anna Boswell on settler-colonial agriculture/ecology and the role of scientific institutions in legitimating imperial constructions of “new worlds.”
– Conflating women with “bloodthirsty” and “flesh-eating” plants, and the dehumanization of Indigenous cultures through the scientific illustrations of imperial scientific agents and artistic depictions of plants from colonized ecosystems (Euro-American art/botany, 1700s to early 1900s).
- When naturalists from Kew Gardens tried to import marsupials from Australia in order to naturalize the kangaroo to English ecosystems in an attempt build imperial/nationalist identity and pride by demonstrating how the English countryside is friendly, perfect, superior, welcoming to life, unlike the dangerous tropical landscapes at Empire’s frontier (1790s to 1850s).
- Scientists and land managers of Canadian federal government attempting to expand control over the Arctic/sub-Arctic by purposely killing caribou herds to weaken Indigenous autonomy before importing European reindeer to better control Indigenous foodsheds. (1890s to 1930s.)
-  How the gardens, horticulture, and food markets of poor/dispossessed/enslaved in the Caribbean allowed autonomous food networks to exist and undermine plantation owners. (Late 1700s, early 1800s.)
- Grasses, seed merchants, and “the Empire’s dairy farm” in Aotearoa. (European agriculture in late 19th and early 20th centuries.) And: The role of grasslands, deforestation, and English grasses in ecological imperialism in Aotearoa, early 20th century.
- The Scottish-born chief coroner of Adelaide who robbed graves, dissected bodies, and took the skulls of at least 180 Aboriginal people for his home collection. (1900-ish to 1920-ish.)
- Pineapple, breadfruit, and plantations “doing the work of Empire” in Hawaii.
- Mapuche people, Valdivian temperate rainforest, and Chilean/European state plots to colonize Valdivia by dismantling the rainforest to undermine Mapuche autonomy and to create “Swiss or German pastoral farm landscape”.
-  Carl Linnaeus and botanists’ racism against India and Latin America, and the use of botanic gardens to acquire knowledge as an exercise of “soft empire.”
- How Atomic Energy Commission and academic ecologists from the US knowingly and purposely used Polynesian/Micronesian people as human test subjects and profited off of nuclear weapons testing in the South Pacific. (Contains many direct quotes from the scientists. Extremely graphic.)
- Dandelions, other non-native plants, and settler gardens changing soil of the Canadian Arctic. (Late 1800s and early 1900s.)
- European botanic gardens in 18th-/19th-century Mexico and Central America as a tool of imperialism and knowledge systematization. (“Botany began as atechnoscope – a way to visualize at-a-distance – but, at the end of the eighteenth century, it was already a  teletechnique –  a way to act at-a-distance.”)
- Memes for when you see a mention of “Joseph Banks” or “Kew Gardens” in any magazine, academic article, museum exhibit, documentary, or something.
- “Fugitive seeds”: Seed-keeping and plant knowledge among Black communities in the US as an alternative current of thought compared to the scientific racism of 19th century scientific institutions.
- How European botanists experimented under the reign of Leopold in the Belgian Congo before transplanting African oil palm to Southeast Asia to establish the first major oil palm plantations; today, 100 years later, oil palm monoculture ravages Southeast Asia and the same plantation company still owns property across Africa.
-  Wild rice, “cottage colonialism” in Canada, imaginative control, the power of names and naming plants. (1780 to present.) And: Kew Gardens plotting to take Native strains of wild rice and domesticate them for cheap and profitable consumption in other imperial British colonies.
- Calcutta  Botanic Gardens abduction and use of Chinese slaves; Kew Gardens (successfully) plotting to steal cinchona from people of Bolivia to service their staff in India; botanic gardens’ role in large-scale dispossession to create plantations in Assam and Ooty (1790s - 1870s).

Is there CyberVerse versions of Rumble, Frenzy, and Ravage?
Considering only the birds appear even on cybertron, and they would've REALLY helped Soundwave out in the situations he got himself into during Cyberverse with the Quintesson Invasions and even battling Soundblaster pre-earth...I'm going to have to say there probably aren't Cyberverse versions of those three. If there are, they were probably upgraded to be independent bots without the symbiotic connection to Soundwave, so think Covert Agent Ravage from Beast Wars. It'd be ridiculous to think there aren't remnant splinter factions of Decepticons and even Autobots that still want the war to go on, so if we ever get Cyberverse sequel comics or content, Agents Ravage, Rumble, and Frenzy could make good antagonists to make the council (Bee, Shadowstriker, and Rodimus)'s goals of peace a tad bit loftier.
Maybe a cyberverse Ravage could even be teaching a young panther bot recently born from the Allspark's return...Who knows, the animated series might be done but it's still a setting ripe for either a sequel series or more tie-in content!
