yes i Know that irish/scottish gaellic/gallic do Not share english pronunciation but WOW trying to learn it made it hit real hard

I don't know too much about Scottish Gaelic but as someone who speaks a little Irish and learns it on and off when the mood takes... yeah. thankfully I grew up kind of immersed in the language in terms of sayings/names (including my own) so I have a base of pronunciation, but I cannot imagine coming into it fresh-eyed lol. my background in Irish has been enough to enable me to pronounce Scottish names/words without making a fool of myself since moving here, though (cèilidh, Mhairi, Eilidh, etc).

fun fact: when I was at university I had to read some names aloud for something or other and one of the people on the list was named Saidhbhín. this is a monster of an Irish name that you do not see very often and this poor girl had probably been suffering since she left Ireland by my ass had the proud accomplishment of reading it out flawlessly (it's said sigh-veen). she was so surprised it took her a moment to realise it was her I was referring to, which is hilarious. she was probably waiting for "said-bin."
