So here's my first mARTch study. Trying to learn from @princeofcake's style. (They're cpthamburger on Bluesky/Twitter.) I first saw their art on Monster Prom but I've been following them ever since.

When I started this I didn't think it'd take 6-7ish hours to do, but I definitely learned a lot. I included pre-render and post-renders for each art since that's what I'm focusing on and I think that seeing both is a good idea.

I wanted to start simple so I could get the basic plan down and pick up as much as I can before trying it on an actual figure drawing. So I found a Bulbasaur art of theirs that was great to learn from. I didn't color pick for this one but other than that I think it's a pretty good style match.

Then I found a figure drawing that matched the Bulbasaur style pretty closely. They don't always render the same way, sometimes no shading at all, sometimes with a bunch of shading with blending and stuff, but this is the style I want to learn so this was a good next piece.

For this one I only color picked for the flats. And I'm glad I did because I learned a thing about lighting colors that I like kind of knew but now I definitely know and can was able to put into words.

Then for the final piece, I know you're supposed to use what you learned from the art study in your piece. So I pulled up a sketch of mine from a couple months ago and rendered it fully in this style. I found a couple of similar pieces of their to help me out, since using reference is okay.

The shading isn't as good as the other pieces, but it's definitely better than probably any of my attempts prior to this study that I didn't completely steal lighting angles from a reference.

I colored picked a bunch for this one as well cuz that's what I'd normally do. I probably should have done my normal lining that has different thicknesses to see how that would work with what I learned but I didn't think to do that when I started.

But yeah my first mARTch study done. I had a lot of fun and since it took so long I'll probably only do like 1 or 2 of these a week. And that'll give me time to use what I learned on my own art pieces in between studies.

Drew my characters in Monster Prom’s style. Love this style, it’s so expressive and cute. I don’t usually draw in this style, so it was fun to try something different. May try it out more in future.

First art using what I learned yesterday. I did a full drawing of one of the new Taylor outfits.

It's not quite where I'd like and since it's not exactly my style or too good of a replication of CptHamburger's it feels like it's bad, but I'm gonna stick with trying the style.

For my next one I'm gonna use a larger brush for linework. Cuz I like the variable brush width in my style but my regular brush size doesn't lend too well to making colored lines. (Not just aesthetically but functionally, it misses parts and looks weird.)

After drawing Otonashi Ryoko, and having lots of fun doing so, I decided to also draw Matsuda, the second main character of the book Danganronpa Zero.

I loved that book a lot!

Yet again, the art style was inspired by cptHamburger. Please go check him, he and his art are oh so great!

I wanted to try something different, so i tried to emulate @cptHamburger (https://princeofcake.tumblr.com/)'s lovely style for this one. 

Here comes Orofeï, the leader of the group of my SF mercenaries. She’s got a playful personality but is absolutely ruthless when conducting business. She used to be part of a criminal association before reforming.

She’s an astera, just like Belith, but she wasn’t born yet during the golden age of her race, so she takes a great interest in Belith’s story.

I’m not currently working on commissions. HELLO, AGAIN.

Firstly, thank you everyone with for your kind messages :D I didn’t want to just spam thank yous so I’m just gonna tell you guys you’re all great right here, collectively. YOU’RE ALL GREAT, INDIVIDUALLY <3 OK.

I don’t know! I just kept on drawing, checking out other people’s work, feeling inspired, and drawing some more. I also happened to believe I wasn’t much good at anything else from a very young age, so I suppose a decent side effect was it wasn’t that hard to focus on drawing. I don’t know if that’s the healthiest mindset. Did it all pan out in the end? Uh... Maybe?? Life is weird, dudes. 

Uh... Should I be nervous? I might be nervous. 

I use Photoshop CS6. Basically the same as any other Photoshop, really. At least the parts of the software I actually utilize. Occasionally, I’ll post art that I drew on an iPad with Procreate, but most finished work is just Photoshop. End of the day, I just need something that can draw flat, clean lines and I’m all set.

I... Gave up on One Piece quite a while ago... I believe the last arc I was following was the Caesar Retrieval arc. I kind of stopped watching because I felt like the show was too formulaic. Also, I have this very specific issue with Luffy’s ability that I just could not handle. Like, it made me feel REALLY uncomfortable. Let me illustrate this for you:

Don’t take my word for fact here, but I believe we are aiming for the Autumn season..? I don’t really control that stuff, but there is still plenty of drawing that needs doing.
