Hi! (tw suicide, murder, sex mention) I have a question: could killing someone, in a "cold-blooded" way, put someone through trauma? He didn't plan the murder, but the victim was tied up and insulting him (mostly with homophobic insults - the character is gay) and he reacted impulsively and killed him (it was not accidental, it was droning). Could it be enough for him to have nightmares about it, and start having suicidal thoughts, alcohol and drug abuse and isolation. (1/2)

(2/2) He may have already killed one or two person before (I’m not sure yet) but there death were accidental and caused by self-defense. He also starts in the story with a radically black-and-white point of vue, so killing someone would technically make him a bad guy in his opinion. Well anyway, thank you! I love everything you post on this blog, it’s very useful.

We’ve got some answers for you from the TS consultants:

I think this could definitely traumatize the character. Especially if he believes doing this makes him the “bad guy”. He might find himself afraid of who he became, wonder why deaths keep happening around him and re-visit his whole view on life; that could be quite upsetting and shake his whole world. The fact he snapped and went into a new cold state of mind at the moment of the killing doesn’t mean that’s who he is now and it doesn’t necessarily cross over who he was before. So yes, I believe its possible for him to traumatize himself by doing that. He might even be keeping an image of the situation in his head- its possible for this to keep him up at nights or come to his mind involuntarily

Did the killer know the person beforehand? If so, how much history did they have together? Were they friends, long-time enemies, or just strangers? If the killer really didn’t know much about the people they’ve killed, they might be overcome with guilt by wondering if they were hurting the friends and families of the dead people.
