Honghe Hani Rice Terraces, Southern Yunnan, China. It is marked by spectacular terraces that cascade down the slopes of the towering Ailao Mountains to the banks of the Hong River. Over the past 1,300 years, the Hani people have developed a complex system of channels to bring water from the forested mountaintops to the terraces. They have also created an integrated farming system that involves buffalos, cattle, ducks, fish and eel and supports the production of red rice, the area’s primary crop. The inhabitants worship the sun, moon, mountains, rivers, forests and other natural phenomena including fire. They live in 82 villages situated between the mountaintop forests and the terraces. The villages feature traditional thatched “mushroom” houses. When viewed from above, the terraces look almost like stained glass, reflecting the surrounding light. Lambley Viaduct A 14” x 10” preparation watercolour for a larger commissioned work. Both paintings were sold 1997. In the distance is part of Hadrians Wall. The viaduct is a stunning example of Victorian engineering. "Weselige Eselei" Das war der Titel des Workshops von @kevin.kuelsen auf unserer Crew-Klassenfahrt. Wir alle sind ja immer beeindruckt von seinen wunderschönen Motiven. Endlich hatten wir die Gelegenheit ihm über die Schulter zu schauen und gestalteten unter seiner Anleitung dieses Bild: ein #Poitouesel vor der Schönburg Oberwesel im Hintergrund und dem dem Ortskern. Gemalt mit den Materialien aus dem erhaltenen Goodie-Bag. Danke an @onlinegermany für Wassertankpinsel und Füller, @fabercastelldeutschland für Bleistifte und Marker, @schmincke_official für die #horadamaquarell Farben und @kumgermany und @lineo1911 für die Pinsel. Für das schöne Klemmbrett geht Dank an @maulgmbh und @mb_laserdesign fürs belasern. Es war eine großartige Zeit, wenn auch viel zu kurze Zeit mit der #pinselcrew. Und ich habe es nicht bereut quer durch Deutschland gereist zu sein um Menschen zu treffen, die ich vorher noch nie persönlich getroffen habe. Wir haben im letzten Jahr schon so einigen Blödsinn angestellt😜, aber bisher hauptsächlich nur Kontakt über Instagram, Skype und dem Kartenwichteln gehabt. Trotzdem hatte ich in keiner Sekunde das Gefühl ich hätte jemand Fremdes vor mir. Es war eher ein Besuch bei Freunden oder ein Familientreffen. Das Wochenende war einfach nur großartig und ich werde davon bestimmt zehren können, bis ich den ein oder anderen zum Anfassen wiedersehe.
