I absolutely love the whole Momma Bear Donnie factor. Just a little comedy at the end after a hit with fluffy emotions. To sum things up, I loved this bit so much.

I remembered this one conversation I was having with @inkyturtle and she was telling me how much of a perfect snow flake Donnie was because he kind of just goes with the flow and is super understanding and nice. I wanted to show that he has his limitations. Just like everyone out there he has buttons that can be pushed and make him loose his temper. 

Speaking for just myself, I think Raph is one of Donnie’s biggest weaknesses. I say this because I can see Donnie being aware that -while growing up- they were compared a lot. Raph was always chalked up to being “the bad twin” and Donnie hated that. Being a little kid trying to stick up for his brother everyone just thought Donnie was just being the sweetheart and trying to cover for his brother when in reality he was trying to tell everyone how unfair they were being.

This would have driven them closer, Donnie becoming protective of Raph but also lending him a much needed shoulder to cry/lean on. Raph in turn would protect the only person “who gave a damn”. Granted, they’ll be little jerks to each other like any sibling, they’re not perfect and they know that despite what others say (especially Leo) family can always be trusted.

But like I said, this is just my own thoughts, not sure if Inky would totally agree or not.

Donatello had a wary smile on his face as he read the simple text from his only little brother. He looked at the notes he'd written, finding it difficult to actually read them. It was late, likely much later than Mikey would normally be awake. A glance at his phone confirmed this.

Still he looked at his laptop, which now taken apart on his work desk. Donnie could kick himself for all the work his minor mistake had put into play. He could have spent the night decrypting the data on the storage device they managed to snag from the Kraang. Instead, here he was tediously replacing the USB port it damage, along with the other components it somehow managed to fry in the process. It was some sort of bizarre domino effect the genius had never witnessed before, so of course he needed to jot down notes regarding the damage. Then he needed to make sure he had the replacement parts. Also since it had been a while, and he already had the thing taken apart, he may as well do some needed manual updates...

That was only the manual upgrades. It was going to be a whole different journey trying to make his laptop compatible with that storage device, and the knowledge that he'd likely have to decrypt and translate the files.

With a light sigh, Donnie typed out a reply to his brother.

It's still going to be a while. You should go to sleep.

That much was true. It's not that he didn't appreciate Mikey's concern, but whatever reason Mikey was still awake probably wasn't a good one. The fact that Mikey was texting him was a little odd too, now that he thought about it. Maybe the small turtle had tried to knock earlier, and Donnie had missed it? He was pretty distracted, all things considered. Whatever the case may be, a good night's sleep would likely help his brother out.

The sound of his phone told him that Mikey might not be keen on the idea.

Now he was certain Mikey needed something. A distraction, probably. Mikey probably wouldn't have asked that question otherwise.

Donatello looked at the door to his lab. The thought of checking on his baby brother crossed his mind, but he knew if he did that it would be difficult for him to get back to his work tonight. This was far too important to keep waiting a whole night; he'd already lost a few hours trying to fix his own novice mistake.

A text, he thought, was at least something he could do.

I'm repairing my laptop.

It wasn't even a full minute before he got a reply. Likely due to Mikey's sloppy way of typing, Donnie had to presume.

With a sigh, the elder of the two rubbed his temple. His vision blurred while reading the screen, but it wasn't unfamiliar. Being exhausted while working was par for the course for him. If he had to, he'd get some coffee after he was certain Mikey was asleep. 

After a moment more, he finally wrote up a reply.

I didn't take the compatibility issues of our conflicting technology into account.

Donnie groaned. Mikey wasn't that stupid. There was no way that was difficult to understand.

Another message.

Donnie slouched in his chair, resting his chin against the desk as he typed a response to his sibling.

The Kraang's storage device wasn't compatible with the USED slit. I ended up damaging the slit in the process. I can only hope I didn't damage the device as well.

The terrapin shut his eyes. Maybe replying to Mikey wasn't the best idea after all. It didn't take much time or effort to type up a reply, but with how fast and frequently his brother was responding, it left him with little time to do much else. He let out a long yawn, shaking his head as he quickly shot up. He scrunched his brow in determination.

No, he had to finish. He was the only one who could do this, after all. He was about to lift his screwdriver when he heard the phone go off again.

And again.

Three times.

Donatello wanted to ignore it, but he knew he had to check regardless. Plus, he was curious as to why his brother would send so many texts in succession.

Perplexed, the older turtle read over previous messages. When he caught the error, he felt blood rush to his cheeks. The typo, when combined with Mikey's texts, made for an embarrassing and...somewhat lewd mental image. Donnie let out an agitated groan, typing out another response.

I meant USB port! The USB port was incompatible with the storage device.

It was pointless; Donnie hadn't touched his work since Mikey started texting him, and he had a feeling that would remain the case at the rate he was going. Defeated, Donatello stood up and headed towards the lab door. If Mikey was so insistent on seeing him, he may as well figure out why.

Besides, he really could use the caffeine boost.

Just out of weird curiosity, what are your crack pairings? Since most people take shipping WAY too seriously, we need some cracks pairings every now and then ^^

Hard to say what constitutes a crack pairing in this fandom, especially since some people would consider tcest to be crack pairings I’m sure.

Lemme see.

Does April/Leo count? 2k12 of course. The Chimera episode really made it appeal to me, if only a little bit. It’d be kind of fun to explore.

If Slash/Raph counts as crack then sign me the fuck up because I’m in love with it (to the point where I shipped Raph with his own gd pet turtle before that episode hit). It’s hard for me to consider it crack personally, but I could see why it would be. The pet turtle thing? Definitely.

I’d also ship Raph and Mikey with Fishface and Rahzar respectively, and I KNOW that’s straight up crack of the worst kind.

I’ll ship any of the 2k12 turtles with their 87 counterparts (or any continuity counterparts). Selfcest is my JAM.

I mentioned I’d be down with Mikey/Napoleon or Mondo. Either one.

Huh, y’know it’s actually kinda hard to think up crack ships I like off the top of my head. I’m sure there are a bunch more than this I’d be down for seeing. They’re just not hitting me right now.

Also Rocksteady and Bebop are married in every continuity they are in and you can’t convince me otherwise.

I know it's a joke but I wanted to ask anyway -w- Who do you think is the most underrated character? In the show, of course.

I had to think about this a bit, because there are a lot of characters that get underused/ignored in both the fandom and the show alike, but a lot of the times I can see justifications for it (actually, all times really).

I know I’ve said it before and even gave my reasoning as to why I don’t think this character has been brought back, but I still really, really think Timothy/Pulverizer/Mutagen Man is underrated. I haven’t met anyone who dislikes him yet, but he often gets ignored in the fandom proper usually.

And I get why, just like I get why they’ve left us hanging on a resolution for him despite his incident affecting Donatello as a character so much (at least until they decided he wasn’t useful for the plot anymore I guess). Even still there’s a lot that could be done with him in the show and out, and I’m not just talking about angst or slapstick style comedy. And I’ve said before imagine letting a character like him develop and evolve. THAT would be interesting to see/explore.

I just feel like it was wasted potential, and though he only had like 3 episodes they were all really solid ones that I feel should be brought up more often than they are.

I dunno. He’s a great character. I love him.

I also want to add that my sister and I watched Secret of the Ooze recently, and realized there were small elements of Kino’s role that may have been inspiration for the Pulverizer. There was a lot of shit from that movie that made it into the show in really small ways, in fact. It was just sort of neat to see and study.

A villain I love that often gets ignored outside the show is Baxter Stockman, but at least his role in the show itself is very prominent, and I don’t really consider him ‘underrated’ considering he’s a very much a what you see is what you get type of character.

Ok so my friend asked her question, but what about Raph/Don? They are my ultimate OTP.

The ONLY thing that doesn’t put it higher on my list is the lack of content for it in the 2012 series. It seems they have more moments in season 5, so when I see it maybe my tune will change. We’ll see.

That all said, the appeal is absolutely there. If you want an ‘opposites attract’ pairing then this is one of the strongest cases for one in the franchise. Donnie is 100% cerebral. He overthinks things so much that he often misses small details, and it leaves him dense to the feelings of those around him (relatable). Meanwhile Raph is nothing but feelings, to a point where emotions will cloud his judgement and he’ll make a thousand horrible mistakes. I joke that everything Raph loves gets destroyed and it’s true, usually by his own doing.

This can leave them both blind to the feelings of others, but with time Raph has learned to better pick up on the feelings of others, maybe especially people’s feelings for one another. So if anything Donnie’s still the one mostly ignorant of the feelings of those around him. This leads to an interesting dynamic where, in a relationship, Donnie is the mind and Raph is the heart. This could lead to a lot of clashing, but just as much as that’s true, it’s also true that they could easily complete one another if things went right.

Plus in my own mind, near the end of season four they essentially became the new A- team. They’re still more hindered by their shortcomings than their brothers, and I thought that in and of itself could lead to some interesting bonding if the show would let it. Doubt it would, but I’m saying it could have.

I think it’s a great ship. I just wish the current series played on their dynamic more than in passing here and there.
