Oh my, why were we obsessed with Furiadoro in a suit and tie in 2011? She doesn't like wearing a jacket and tie, she would like to go around naked (or at most in a tracksuit). But oh well, it seemed to us that she was fine and so... here she is, with all her possible forms (at least the feral one doesn't have a tie!). Aside from the evolution of Furia's design, we can't help but notice how the illustration style at the time was influenced by certain manga styles.

NEW on Storyteller's Vault: Hearthbound
Tumblr media
I've published my first ever book! This is an early release of Dead Mountain content, is meant to help fund additional art for Dead Mountain, and it's Pay-What-You-Want!
Designed to bring some much-needed family ties, this Supplement is meant to give players and storytellers a framework for telling stories that confront the ugly sides of the Garou Nation.
Homecoming
Hearthbound gives you a new inclusive faction and multiple levels of intrigue to add to your Werewolf: the Apocalypse tabletop!  Long kept beneath the heels of the Garou Nation, Crinos-Born and Kinfolk have found solidarity in supporting each other, and have turned out en force to demand disruptive change from their Tribes.
Inside Hearthbound is a peek into the birth of a new kind of Tribe that venerates the ideals of Shantar, a patron of inventiveness and creativity, and keeper of The Loom. They are taking a critical look at the heart of the Garou Nation itself. Long sold on the lie that Kinfolk cannot raise Crinos-Born children, an awakening is happening within the Nation, where the families that raised these Garou, realize what they are doing to their Crinos-Born. This sparked a movement to help Crinos-Born looking to escape their Tribes come to be raised in Kinfolk homes.
These Hearthbound, beholden to the people they love, act as judges of those Garou that abuse the Litany to systemically oppress each other. They are ambassadors to the spirits on behalf of their kin, Nannas to the Crinos-Born they help free, and Sorcerers capable of blending into societies and rewriting the Pattern Web itself.
There is a deep hurt within the Garou Nation.
The Hearthbound have risen up to protect those oppressed voices that have existed at the edges of the nation for millenia.
While this book is primarily written as a supplement for Werewolf: the Apocalypse 20th Anniversary Edition, all concepts and features of this emerging tribe can find its place in any edition of this game, new or old. There are also translation rules for utilizing these gifts in 5th Edition (if so inclined).
Hearthbound: Tribe Supplement Features:
The background and rules for creating a Hearthbound up to Third Rank!
No original art!
New Gifts!
Expanded Tribe histories and faction dispositions!
Guidance on confronting the Litany and Renown!
Story seeds on how to incorporate Hearthbound into your chronicle!

Well, now I got a few questions for you in return. Merc to merc, Clanner to... well, maybe someone twice removed from the Clan family tree.
🟡💛💳🌼🎵
Something along those lines yeah. It's... Complicated. Have a seat. I got a lot of stuff to talk about.
🟡 Where do I currently live. Where I have lived. I grew up on Hephaestus station. Lived a six months on the planet Milton in Lyran space in a dingy little apartment. Then... Dropships and barracks ever since. Had an RV to have my own space for a while. But then our company managed to acquire an Overlord to serve as our base and by our Steiner noble friend and lancemate we made it a lot more habitable with proper living quarters. The most of a home I have had so far.
💛What do I currently pilot. (OOC: It gets a little time fucky wucky here since Asuka here is part of an RPG campaign that hasn't gotten to the Clan Invasion yet. But this blog is an AU where she obviously got that far. Bear with me.)
I hate that my answer is that I am currently inbetween rides currently. My old clan ride got messed up so they are refitting a new one. So let me tell you about one of my favourites. My Marauder II. Designated MAD-5Xc formerly b. Nicknamed "Direwolf" by the crowds at the time. This was somewhat before the Daishis made an entrance in the inner sphere you see. You won't find it on any technical readout. Most our company refit mechs to suit our doctrines. The b model was built by Blackwell as part of a sponsored entry on Solaris in order to build the 'brand' as they were in negotiations with opening up sales to other clients than the dragoons at the time. It was built for me in particular to pilot which is why it has Triple Strength Myomers, a supercharger and a Guardian ECM system. Armed with an ERPPC and small pulse laser in each arm. Backed up by two SRM 6 launchers on the shoulders which always annoyed me slightly. I have always been adept at fighting things up close... Despite the fact that I have tried very hard to work from range.
It was refitted to have two LRM launchers instead but fitted slightly differently along with an Artemis IV system. Because the SRMs never really did really offer much when I had the ability to just run force and snap somebody's legs off by bullrushing them. Maybe you have seen an old holovid of what they called my glorykill on Solaris. Where I barrel into a highlander, snap its legs. Hammer the torso with the barrels furiously before rearing up and bringing the right barrel into the cockpit and fire the PPC as my voice echoes out over the comms and arena "AND STAY DOWN!" I was... A little bit upset at that man at the time.
I loved that mech. I wish I still had it.
My new ride is going to be a Kodiak. Though... Heavily customized. It is being refitted as I mentioned. It brings along a lot of what I enjoyed about the Marauder by removing the Autocannon and missile launchers for PPCs. A new myomer system, an active probe and jump jets. It will be designated Crinos... The reason it is taking so long is that it has a different headshape. More... Wolfish.
💳 Who is/was your most and least favourite client?
Hmm.... Tough. I had to think about my most favourite client. Probably Rasalhagians. They did not like us much when we first started, having bad experiences with mercenaries to start with but it mellowed out fairly quickly after they figured out that we were not a rowdy bunch
As for least favourite. I going to be weird and say probably Federated suns. Their lords have betrayed us four out of six times but at least people above them made steps to repair the relationship. We had one Baron I think he was who decided to turn on us and me specifically because I beat the snot out of his favourite officer in a perfectly legal martial arts tournament. He cheated first though.
🌼What do I think of the clans.
I was born into Wolf's Dragoons. Both mother and father were of the clans. Mechtechs both of them. I was probably going to become one too but I showed great aptitude with mech piloting. And fighting just in general. Probably owing to the fact I have inherited elemental genes from my fathers side. When they invaded the inner sphere I ended up among them. Not by my own will. I ended up prisoner and they after a while figured out that technically I was related to clan Wolf. I had to try for a bit to become a full member. I fought tooth and nail for that and got a trial of position and even managed to earn a blood name. I do not carry it though. During their invasion I came to understand myself through elementals and the clan. The severe mismanagement of operation REVIVAL made opinion of the clans thusly:
Eugenicists with little thought or preparation made for the totality of war. Admittedly I am also very annoyed at having been called freebirth over and over and over and being overruled time and time again despite the fact that I had more experience with the war in the inner sphere they were actually trying to fight. I also find their commitment to honour lacking. Rescinding it when they deem an enemy to be less than human or simply a problem and in the way. That is not to say all warriors of the clans are such nor do I treat them thusly.
I simply believe that they are flawed much like the inner sphere. There are heroes and villains under every banner in the Galaxy. The Clans, the houses of the inner sphere and mercenaries.
🎵 What is a piece of music you enjoy, that you would play in combat on a loop?
I was really hoping somebody would ask me this. I really was. Allow me to send a few sound files your way.
In the cockpit:
youtube
It keeps my heart pumping in the midst of combat. It has a really nice melody to me.
In my head:
youtube
(OOC: Warning for a bit gore. It is Doom 2k16 after all)
This feels a lot how it feels inside my during a battle.
But. Also an honourable mention to kuritan holovids, they based a villain on me. Well me and my old Black Knight. It sounded a bit like this.
youtube
I think after all of that. I owe you at least a few drinks.

The Evolution of the Lone Prospect
Coming up with ideas can be a process. Sometimes you have a setting or a character but you don’t have anything else. And it can take time to build and sometimes after years of having a germ of an idea it can take a couple weeks to come together and start to feel alive.
Back when I was going to college at the Academy of Art in San Francisco, most of my friends were those in the comic or game departments not other fashion design students. We liked D10 role playing, mostly using the old World of Darkness system. Vampire the Masquerade, Werewolf the Apocalypse, Changeling the Dreaming and their Solar, Lunar etc Chinese based game. None of our games ever lasted very long due to the fact that we were college students in art heavy programs with a lot of studios and practical work on our hands. I was in the tail end of my “morbid fear of death and dying” period. (Long story.) And was obsessively buying all the Vampire: The Masquerade books I could get my hands on. And then came semester I took Narrative Storytelling as part one of a two part English course requirements.
Claudia Holm taught the class. An energetic redhead who paced the floors and told funny stories. She wrote travelogues. As we went over the syllabus she came to the main thrust of the course, which was write a five page story in three drafts over fifteen weeks. We could write about anything we wanted, be it memoir or fiction. However, she had two personal caveats, no vampires and no ninjas. She’d seen vampires doing everything from eating pizza with the ability to go out into the sun. This was the middle of the Twilight and Naruto craze. But for me it was a bit disappointing and being somewhat of a perverse and petty nature. I decided to write a story about a werewolf instead.
She loved it. She thought it was hysterical.
So I tucked the idea away in my head, maybe a bunch of high school students who liked playing basketball and had to keep up the masquerade. Obviously this never got anywhere because I’m not really a young adult author. High school was also a miserable experience for me and I just can’t figure out how to revisit memories of things I never actually did and make it seem enjoyable. I didn’t participate in sports. I never had a boyfriend. I wasn’t part of any clique or crowd.
My friend and later roommate, Kaylynn Spears loved Werewolf: the Apocalypse and the Lunars of WoD. There was a picture in the old World of Darkness Werewolf source book of a pack of werewolves in a junkyard. They were in different forms, big answer to the chainsaw Crinos, wolf form, human. They were working on cars and just hanging out. I liked the image. Werewolves who were comfortable with each other in every form doing normal things.
When we lived together. We tended to walk to the grocery store several blocks away. Two thin, slight girls with short hair with backpacks going under an underpass of the highway and into SOMA towards the baseball stadium. We kept our eyes open for the homeless and cute corgi dogs. The best way we found to keep people from approaching us was to talk about fandom things and if the people were particularly annoying the conversation always turned to “So about werewolves.” It was entertaining to watch people who were panhandling back away very quickly. And one time, on the way back, we were behind a guy wearing a leather jacket. I think we spoke a bit too loud and spooked him because that is when I had the idea for ‘biker’ werewolves.
But the idea continued to sit in the back of my head. I stubbornly pursued a degree in fashion design and then went to work for my father at his shop not doing fashion. (Another long story.)
One of my co-workers, Jason Bailey, and I would mostly talk about our hobbies, when we were talking to each other. I had a lot of movies I liked to watch and he would in the winter work out and watch television. He knew I liked the Expendables and recommended Sons of Anarchy. SoA wasn’t my usual type of show, I had money to burn and I bought the first season. I plowed through that in a few days. I was hooked. I was getting into the second or third season when one night I was really tired and decided to put in Expendables 2. Expendables 2 isn’t as great as the original, but it still holds the ‘mercenary group with motorcycles’ idea and well, it’s over the top funny.
I got to the end and the ideas began to meld in my head. Expendables, a mercenary group that rode motorcycles, Sons of Anarchy a fictional motorcycle club, and strangely since it was the end of the Twilight period, Twilight, except, remember Claudia Holm. No Vampires! So, werewolves instead.
I think I laughed a good five minutes.
Then I opened a word file and I started thinking about what type of werewolf mercenary biker unit I would want to read about. When was it set, where would it be set. Why bikers? I’m a big fan of Star Wars. My favorite Star Wars series in the expanded universe is the X-Wing novels. The X-Wing novels are typically a bunch of whacky characters who fly the equivalent of F-16s in the distant future. They’re pilots, arrogant, cocky and really, a ton of fun. That’s the type of group I wanted. A group of characters.
I wanted it to be in the future. I didn’t want to be another urban fantasy. But, I didn’t want it to be so far in the future or the technology so far out there that if it was ever optioned for anything visual it’d require a huge amount of CGI work. I’m a firm believer in the success of low budget movies. Thus, a few centuries out from a post-apocalyptic setting. Things are getting better, but they aren’t back to pre- landscape changing, war conditions either.
I researched motorcycle clubs, wolves, werewolves and mercenary units. I put my reasoning together. Motorcycle clubs often work security. Security is something mercenaries also do. Security is important after a big war. Motorcycle clubs need territory. Wolves need territory. Werewolves need packs and a way to hide they are packs. Wolves work together to hunt and provide. Werewolves are going to have those urges. Security is a nice constructive outlet. Sturgis and the Black Hills are an important area for motorcycle clubs. I’ve actually been to the Black Hills.
For a while, a lot of the characters didn’t have gender or names because it wasn’t important to me what their gender was, it was more important what their role was and as the story evolved then the characters were given gender usually based on how funny I found the idea at the time. The only two who had specific gender in the beginning were Savannah and Gideon. I drafted a plot for a “movie” and got to the end and went. “Now wait a damn minute, where did these people come from?”
And that is when the story really started to come alive and gain a soul.
There are methods/gimmicks to writing. And I’ll admit that I used one in the Lone Prospect. I took the view of the outsider, of Gideon, and used him as a way to both drive the story and explain what is going on in the world and in the pack. A reader can relate to Gideon. Sure, he doesn’t know anything about motorcycle clubs. The reader probably doesn’t either. But they both can learn over the course of the story. And giving prospects a hard time is a time honored motorcycle club tradition. (Innocent whistling.)
There were other factors that helped this happen when it happened. There were indications to me that character driven storytelling with morally grey characters was the way the times were headed. That people want stories to uplift their moods and not more gritty, dark, shocking science fiction and fantasy. But those were hunches and my gut.
This is how stories evolve, you’re walking down the street with your friend and you see a tough dude in a motorcycle jacket and you go “psst, biker werewolves” and laugh together because you both have to write stories for an English class that don’t involve vampires or ninjas even if you both really like vampires and ninjas.
And there is a squeaky toy of doom parrot up there on a telephone wire laughing and waiting for a friend. The start of yet another great or not so great idea.

Hearthbound Tribe Supplement v2.3!
New Expanded Version Available Now on Storytellers Vault!
All proceeds go towards funding additional artwork for Dead Mountain
Tumblr media
Hello Kinfolks! What started as some formatting fixes and spelling corrections have turned into full spellcraft mechanics! Remember my first-ever book? Yeah, the one I released earlier that was basically the result of an unholy alliance between queerness and insomnia? Well, it's baaack! But this time, it's got a fancy new edition and a whole bunch of improvements that I promise will make you howl with excitement (or at least politely applaud).
Tumblr media
10 pages of new content:
Better formatting, probably!
Garou Sorcerer guidelines
Cipher Glyphs for spell-storing
Enough Sorcerer mechanics to play them at your Werewolf tabletop!
Hearthbound gives you a new inclusive faction and multiple levels of intrigue to add to your Werewolf: the Apocalypse tabletop! Long kept beneath the heels of the Garou Nation, Crinos-Born and Kinfolk have found solidarity in supporting each other and have turned out en-masse to demand disruptive change from their Tribes.
Inside Hearthbound is a peek into the birth of a new kind of Tribe that venerates the ideals of Shantar, a patron of inventiveness and creativity and keeper of The Loom. They are taking a critical look at the heart of the Garou Nation itself. Long sold on the lie that Kinfolk cannot care for Crinos-Born children, an awakening is happening within the Nation, where the families that raised these Garou realize what they are doing to their Crinos-Born. This sparked a movement to help Crinos-Born, who sought a means to escape their Tribes and Septs.
These Hearthbound, beholden to the people they love, act as judges of those Garou that abuse the Litany to systemically oppress each other. They are ambassadors to the spirits on behalf of their kin, Nannas to the Crinos-Born they help free, and Sorcerers capable of blending into societies and rewriting the Pattern Web.
There is a deep hurt within the Garou Nation.
The Hearthbound have risen to protect those oppressed voices that have existed at the edges of The Nation for millennia. The background and rules for creating a Hearthbound up to Third Rank!
No original art!
New Gifts!
Expanded Tribe histories and faction dispositions!
Guidance on confronting the Litany, Hearths, Covens, Fellowships, and Renown!
Story seeds on how to incorporate Hearthbound into your chronicle!
Hearthbound was created with queer, trans, and disabled werewolf players in mind. I always loved the setting but never felt the game held space for queer and disabled folk, and 5th edition even less so.
A supplement that fits into this world does not pretend the bad never happened. This isn't to say the bad should be erased (indeed, that's worse in many ways) but rather is something that was, since 1st edition, something meant to be presented as antagonistically bad to social progress and meant to be confronted by players. However, this intent was very poorly conveyed, and a few too many people saw the bad stuff and took it as gospel for how they ought to behave in the world.
Hearthbound is my first step towards driving home the point that players are supposed to be confronting the Garou Nation and not celebrating and reinforcing the status quo.
I've gone through the intense emotional labor of reviewing the old books line by line to distill both the public and private faces of each Tribe and have categorically laid out the open cultural wounds that exist within each Tribe. The old books always used their literature to progress the world canon, and this aims to do just that. To pretend these problems didn't exist in the writing is disingenuous.
For those who found deep problems in the game but always wanted to play Werewolf to directly confront these things, Hearthbound is dedicated to you specifically.
And because I don't think inclusivity should have a price tag, I've made this supplement free to anyone who wants to challenge the status quo at their werewolf tabletops.
