The scene in ntn where Nona does such a spot on impression of Palamedes kissing Camilla's hand that Camilla has to dissociate about it in the tub has me wondering about the first gen lyctors' relationship with Alecto. Do you think that they were afraid of her because she wasn't human enough or because she was too human?Do you think that she worried her lip like Cristabel? Do you think she walked with Alfred's walk and laughed Pyrrha's laugh? Do you think they saw in her flawless imitation a mockery of their dearest friends and of their greatest sins? Do you think they said to John "it is a monstrosity, it is unbearable, send it away from us, Lord. We cannot look at it." this started as a much bigger idea but three days of sketching in i realized my brain-eyes were bigger than my hand-stomach could manage. i probably still couldve taken it further than i did but i think im still happy with what ive got for two and a half weeks worth of working on it.

also full disclosure the shot of johns politician puppet is almost entirely lifted from a photo of a white house meeting room (mirrored and with some people left out) and i straight up traced the city of melbourne from a stock photo because at that point i was afraid that if i didn't take some pretty extreme shortcuts id never get past it and id lose all my work up to that point. the original intent was for both images to show up for a second or less in an amv or an animatic or whatever were calling them these days so it would probably have felt like less of a big deal. so like, sorry to the original photographers for jacking your shit but also thank you for your service o7

It's been said before but I'll say it again — ever be so deeply, permanently emotionally destroyed by killing your best friend in the name of the newfound necromancer/cavalier relationship that you build a house that treats cavaliers as innately disposable, breeds them for a single purpose, genetically matches them to babies before they are born, names them for sacrificial animals, specifically so none of the necromancers who follow behind you will experience the heartbreak of losing the person they love most in the world, so horribly that they can't stand to hear their name spoken aloud for the next ten thousand years, only for the scion of that house, ten thousand years later, to be so revolted by the concept of killing his cavalier for Lyctorhood, so disgusted by your crime, that he claims G-d's directly expressed will is heretical and fundamentally morally opposed to the principles of the religion you helped to found?

And then, when that person does do what you explicitly built his house to be able to do and uses his cavalier as a tool rather than a person — even if he does it because he believes his cavalier capable of surviving anything, the polar opposite of what you tried to teach his house to believe — he experiences his cavalier's death as such an abrupt and horrifying loss that after he himself is killed he wanders the afterlife in grief, impotently taking revenge on a woman who should have been burned up for Lyctorhood by the person who loved and needed her most, but was spared, saying may all the blood of your blood suffer even a fraction of what I have suffered? she was a devout nun she fully believed that Some Guy™️ was god she killed herself to bolster someone else's power not once but twice we know like 5 things about her and all of them are fucked up insane she was a delight she was effervescent she was kind to animals and children she probably initiated a suicide pact which she then carried out she didn't mind being trepanned on the regular she was god's favorite sacraficial lamb she had strange and unnerving eyes and a strange and unnerving worldview she probably invented soul siphoning she was seemingly incapable of separating love from fanatical devotion she's haunting the narrative she was a zealot she was an idolator and a heretic she was the first one to figure out what needed to be done and the only one with the balls to do it and she didn't have the intellect you'd ordinarily find in a sandwich or an orange. i didn't say her name but she popped into your head didn't she.

In light of the reveal in The Unwanted Guest that cav’s souls bleed into their Lyctors, I can’t stop thinking about the moment Mercymorn kills Jod. This woman tears apart the God of the Nine Houses, turns around, and immediately quotes JESUS ON THE CROSS. That is 100% pure Catholic Nun right there. The ever-burning soul of Cristabel Oct JUMPED out, undimmed despite ten thousand years of being a human battery. Incredible.

i just think it's so interesting that the Eighth House is the soul siphoner house, when Mercy is (to put it incredibly simply) an anatomist. as far as i'm aware, she has little to no interest in souls past the baseline interest she needs to have. but you know who was very interested in souls? Cristabel.

devote your life to god; then go ahead and end it to help a man who might as well be god understand soul magic. devote your second life to your best friend; devote your body to her; devote your second death to keeping her soul alive for infinity. have the House you built with her take your sacrifice and devotion, and make of it an abomination. talk about tragic irony.

i know most of us are on Alecto's side because of *gestures broadly* reasons but given

a) how tazmuir likes to recontextualize stuff

b) the OG lyctors were scared shitless of her (Augustine saying she was a mad monster in a human suit and John went and made her worse? like i know they were pissed off about the resurrection beast stuff but there has to have been more to it than that?)

c) in the poem (Christabel) that is Cristabel Oct's namesake there is a MYSTERIOUS BLONDE WOMAN who is NOT HUMAN and moves into the castle and BEWITCHES THE LORD and CASTS A SPELL ON CHRISTABEL SO SHE CAN'T WARN ANYONE
