I want to touch it. So bad.

I went to the Hôtel de Soubise (Archives nationales) with @hurlumerlu​ and we saw the famous (Louis XV desk turned Committee of Public Safety’s) desk on which, legend has it, Robespierre laid wounded in Thermidor. But how can we be sure? Do we have precise sources? It can’t have been the only table in the Committee’s rooms? 

Or is it just that the idea of Robespierre, living embodiment of the Revolution, lying dying on was used to be a monarchy desk, was just too good, bittersweet and ironic, so the legend took? 

“The green leather which covers the top is rumoured to have the trace of his blood” says the explanation sign on the desk. The desk’s been cotton swabbed for DNA by Philippe Charlier and his team, to no results. But the desk is scratched and damaged, and there’s clearly a mug stain! 

It was a grey, cloudy day in Paris. But the sun showed up right as I was taking pictures of the desk. Also, look how pretty the Phrygian caps on the desk’s corners are. 

The peace treaty with Italy was signed on this desk in February 1947, but it’s way more famous for Thermidor.

One thing I know I want to set up (and honestly I have been procrastinating on it for months) is making a commission page. I am very aware there are people who are interested and had asked in the past.

So I think after the new year holidays, I will set everything up 👀. My main problem is that I’m so bad at figuring out pricing, and when I research, I get mixed messages…so I get overwhelmed and put it off lmao. So I need to get it done.

But I do want to use these to begin saving money for a decent, smaller drawing tablet with a screen so I can use csp regularly again.

I love my big tablet, but oh my god. I’ve tried to work with it within the last few months… but I just. Hate that I have no room to move when I get it out. So I may retire that briefly for the time being, because the reality is that I need a desk for it…not a bedside tray with only a bed as my chair with no support lmao.

I just wanted to mention that the desks/office in your recent comic look really great. You use the space very well to enhance your already strong visual gags; it makes the pace feel light and nimble though your drawing style and design choices feel more thoughtful and slice of life. In more serious moments, you keep that tone appropriate, strong grasp on imagery so those internal monologues are always compelling and don't get slogged down with text. Very fun to read, thank you for sharing.

now i can't take full credit there bc i have to stress the desks (and associated clutter) are prefab assets! but i'll take the praise for the layout/composition/writing/etc -around- said assets 😋

it's the same as we were doing in #5 actually. as soon as we get to the school setting my brain kicks up a huge "i dont want to draw desks" tantrum. HFHBJDGBH I WANNA DRAW WOMEN... NOT DESKS....!!!

i think this time was better integrated than #5 though (the shading is much simpler so it stands out less). however i still managed to introduce a bunch of diesel-style inconsistencies and oddities so i wouldn't scrutinize it too closely. or do idk it's funny <3

i love my tools. i really do. lets me focus my energy on drawing women and thinking of Funny Gags. smiles

My favourite coworker who isn’t technically a coworker is the store cleaner. He’s this big man who has a beautiful singing voice and clear whistle that you can hear before you see him. He sings along to all the music and tries to discuss insane conspiracy theories to anyone who will listen. Today he saw me moping about as customer liaison and gave me a fist bump, saying ‘you got this girly’.

clip studio paint how ive missed you so…. as much as i like procreate, csp is just. so much better. im absolutely gonna make the most of this 3 month trial before im forced to pay a subscription fee

finished two ren pics yesterday that i'd been sitting on for a while, started TWO craft projects today (making a cheap DIY bobbin lace bolster pillow + making a ren doll (or two???)) AAAAAND i just found a program that lets me use my ipad as a tablet for my laptop and bought CSP 3.0 on sale. >:333333c Beware.
