Hello CS 2019 fandom. We’re back.

Player Appreciation Week 2025 will be held on March 24-30. The theme for this years’ prompts is Alternate Universes! Here they are below:

Day 3, March 26: Parallel Universe

Day 4, March 27: Sci-Fi

Day 5, March 28: Apocalyptic

Day 6, March 29: Royalty

Day 7, March 30: Time Travel

Alternate 1: Domestic

Alternate 2: Canon Divergence

Alternate 3: Role Swap

The alternative prompts can be used in place of any day. Fill as many or as few prompts as you’d like or have time for. The prompts themselves can be used as loosely or literally as you’d like. Prompts can be filled in any number of ways, including but not limited to: Fic, Art, Edits, Memes, Poetry, Analysis/Essay, Video, etc. If it's fannish and you created it, it counts!

If you cannot post your work on the day that it is meant for, you are welcome to post it any time between March 24-30 and we will have a grace period for one week after the event ends if anyone needs a little extra time to submit. As far as actual posting goes, create a post on your own tumblr blog and@playerappreciationweek , as well as tag #playerappreciationweek2025. If you have a fic, we encourage you to post it to Ao3 if possible, we’ll be making a collection for works there. You can then make a tumblr post with the link to your work. We will reblog the posts for everyone to find.

Leading up to the event, if you would like to send a short teaser for your work, please submit it as an ask to this blog with the prompt and day it is for. Once it gets closer to posting week, we’lll post it as an advertisement to help us all get hyped!

Rules:

1. This event is Player-centric, so anything created should feature Player as a prominent character in some way.

2. The event is Gen only, that is, no romantic relationships. Background relationships of Player’s or Carmen’s parents are fine, but the focus of your work should be on Player and his platonic/familial relationships. Please note that this means soulmate relationships for day 2’s prompt should be platonic or ambiguous, not romantic.

3. Have your work properly tagged both here on Tumblr and on Ao3. If there are more mature themes, hide your work under the cut on tumblr if applicable, and tag for any known trigger warnings/darker themes, such as Major Character Death, suicide ideation, or panic attacks.

4. No AI please.

We won’t reblog works that don’t fit these criteria.

We also have a discord server available for brainstorming and beta help! It’s open all year if you enjoy brainstorming CS 2019 ideas in general. Please hop over into @rueitae DMs to ask for an invitation. The server follows the same guidelines as the event.

Player Appreciation Week 2025 Day 2: Soulmates

Player hated every little bit of the idea of soulmates. He couldn’t even keep a friend for more than a few months, how would he deal with a soulmate? That is, until he realized platonic soulmates exist.

Player Appreciation Week Day 3: Alt prompt 3: Role Swap

Title: Carmen.. Ontario?

“This is just some kid!” “Those are the exact clothes of Carmen Sandiego! It’s not my fault that I saw it and thought of her!”

Player, tied to a chair, watched as Crackle and Tigress bickered back and forth together. The subject? His current outfit, a Carmen brand coat with a matching red hat.

Teaser for day 2: Soulmates

Player had always hated the idea of soulmates. You got one person tied to your soul for your whole life, and you felt every injury they got, from a paper cut to a stab wound. People didn’t get their soulmates’ injuries, if one got stabbed the other wouldn’t bleed, but the pain itself was shared. And Player hated every little bit of the idea. He couldn’t even keep a friend for more than a few months, how would he deal with a soulmate?  But what if soulmates didn't just have to be romantic?

Prompt: ALT 2–Canon Divergence

Ivy's holding one of her headphones away from her ear, the latter still blaring indistinguishable rock music. She raises a judgemental eyebrow at the pair offensively not covered in paint, "You joinin' us, Shadowsan?"

Shadowsan blinks at the question, then crosses his arms in front of his chest with a huff that sounded much more like the arrogant ninja they knew. "Someone needs to supervise."

The ignorant example of needing-supervision himself turns toward them, his face brightening, "Wait, yeah!" Zack cries, his joy almost making it seem like they were never once sad (…almost).

"You should paint something too, Shadowsan!"

Ivy hops off her stool, paintbrush abandoned on her already filthy workbench and hands dusted by the time she reaches the empty stall she was going to use earlier before reconsidering. All set up. She leans smugly against the old easel's poor frame, her tired face stretched into a grin, "C'mon, for Carm.” She says, with the twinge of an ache in her figure.

Player bristles at the reminder, his own frail brush's handle threatening to snap in his fist. Shadowsan sighs.

Heyo!! Coming in at the last minute, but here’s a snippet for Day 1: time travel

“Until Carmen’s face dropped. “Watch out!” She screamed, noticing something behind him. 

Player didn’t react quickly enough. He was seized from behind, arms snaking under his and around his head, limiting almost all upper body movement. A wet rag was clamped over his mouth and Player accidentally breathed in an unhealthy dose of what he could only imagine to be chloroform. 

“Let him go!” Carmen cried, lunging towards the people holding him. Tigress had been ready, though, and slashed at Carmen. Player snapped his fingers, not wanting to wait and see if Tigress missed or not. 

The tame scene of the hotel room came flooding back, the quiet beep of his laptop in front of him. Player’s body still remembered the tension of the alley, as well as the scent of chloroform.”

“Red?” He croaked. “I know you don’t like to blast the AC, but can you turn it up? And pull the curtains while you’re at it? I’m dying here.” (Some days he missed having a cave).

No answer except a buzzing drone of a mosquito.

“Red?” He tried again.

Whatever. He didn’t care. He’d officially been sapped of caring about his dignity; if the guide to the game preserve decided he looked like a kid and didn’t want to charge him admission, he could go on ahead.

The memory of the park caused a notifying ding! to chime in his head. Like that, his mind snapped to something other than the heat (which still sucked, but was now a secondary concern).

Shoot, they were supposed to be there at nine! What time was it? “Red?” He started pushing himself up. “Any idea what time it is? We gotta be at the park by-“

His tongue, in spite of the blazing heat, froze the second he opened his eyes.

Player blinked. He rubbed at his eyes. Blinked again. No, no he wasn’t seeing things.

There was no hotel room.

He was sitting in the middle of the veldt.

One more before we kick things off! Day 7: Time Travel AU *** “Was this really necessary?”

Carmen turned from the lamplit streets of Bath rolling past the window of the coach to flash a teasing grin over at Player. “Don’t tell me you’ve changed your mind about coming on a caper after begging for months.”

Player rolled his eyes. “I wasn’t begging.”

”Repeatedly asking then.”

Player sat back with a huff. Okay, that was accurate.

He should be thrilled: after months of not-begging, he'd finally convinced Red to let him come on a caper. However, he’d filed to consider the full reality of this particular trip.

“That was before I knew you were bringing me along to be your dance partner!”

Regency-era England had its perils.
