A bday gift to my friend back in 2023, but also congratulating the finale! This was my first Webtoon series I've ever read thanks to my friends that recommended it to me, and it was such a rollercoaster of emotions 😭💖 Thank you to iamlambcat and your team's hard work so so much for creating these loveable characters, story, and positive messages for everyone!!! I'll miss it so much, but I'm looking forward to what they plan next!!!

I was a fool to ignore their recommendations, but finally, I binged the entire series this week.

Timeline at the CPC

The first month is def a summer because Frederick when climbing the cliffs to go to Pastel Palace - there's summer scenes such as huge sunflowers and the woods still green

This calendar for month two shows there's 31 days, but I disagree and imagine it have 30 days instead. It's to fits plot narrative that 28 days after Jamie's Art Show - Gwen slumber

Also based on conversation with Leopold, month two is Autumn season already (Gwen's favorite season)

For month three where we are in the current recent story... I am taking liberty as what I lossely explained in my fanfic

30th is the day of everything that happened at ep 142+ happen, this make Frederick imprisoned for 11 days. Blaine and Lance actually finished their 'training' a day before (29th), make them technically punished in shorter time

I am not sure about when Whitney returns to the CPC, gives Prez the pill and period time range for her.. but Prez' curse make her becomes were-spider actually very fluctuative...

I am thinking that Gwen poisoned at the 23th of the third month, this fits the counting if month two just have 30 days, and it's not that sudden for sadness narrative - there's 5 days different between the date of poisoned with the Gala, so things that Miss Agatha said about missed class make sense

Honestly the only clear timeline of the date in the CPC come from Frederick's calendar that shows that Gala happened at the 19th. We have a calendar with a proper number.

we have calendar like the moon phases (that Prez had) etc but it having no date. What we had are mostly loose time counting and timeline mentioning like "next weekend, this week, tuesday, on this friday, few months, nearly two weeks" - etc)

Another Korrasami situation?

I sorta head-canon that Lorena might end with one of Prince Saffron’s similarly aged relatives. With her warrior prowess and floral powers she would just vibe very well with his family.

If not with that potential or with Lance, then it wouldn’t be unthinkable if she ends up with Suzanna Winchester.

When Suzie was first introduced, it was as Lorena’s one sided rival for Lance’s love. She hated her for the sole fact that she was his bride to be. A role she wanted to fill. He was the first person to see past her title, her family legacy and even her appearance. Suzanna wasn’t that good at making friends with anybody. To her they were rivals who wanted to best her, unsuitable suitors who didn’t match up to her standards or even people who just wanted to take her down a peg. So to have the one person she thought of as her special someone just snatched away before she even had the chance be more to him just wasn’t cutting it for her.

Suzie wanted so much to beat Lorena at what she does best which was fencing. But rather then get upset at the loss Lorena had fun and wanted to take fencing lessons from her. She was having none of that.

But she ended up doing so anyway with Lorena oblivious to her intense dislike of her. Lorena saw her as a friend, someone outside of her family who she could confide in. A fact which surprised her given that no one had asked her for her opinions before.

But it wasn’t enough to stop her from participating in ending the engagement between the Pastel Princesses and the Plaid Princes then. She thought she wanted it to happen but as soon as it did Suzie didn’t think about the fact that Lance could potentially be hers. Her thoughts were on Lorena and how heartbroken she looked.

Suzanna wanted someone who saw her as a person, someone who didn’t care about anything related to her status and snobby personality. What she thought was in Lance had been in Lorena the whole time. She hasn’t realized that she didn’t need Lance’s love after all. She probably stopped seeing him with rose-colored glasses anyway after the invasion of the pastel kingdom.

She had shown more bravery than Lance did in the face of the fierce Plaid military. Someone much lower on the chain of command chose to stand up against their own military. Lorena was estatic to see her friend Suzie even though moments prior she was this faceless enemy set out to conquer her kingdom. Probably helped that she freed her from her chains and chose to fight alongside her.

Either as lovers or friends I do see them remaining close.

Cursed Princess Club - Season 3 Finale - Thoughts

So... That finale... 

Let’s be honest, this season was chaos. In the best way possible. I think most of the chaos was in the ‘Intruder’ - ‘Prince Whitney’ episodes just because there was so much going on. But I want to talk about the last episode specifically.

SPOILERS

The Season 3 finale, Ep.106 ‘Jamie’s Art Show’ takes place during an art show that Leopold has done surrounding Jamie’s work as a food critic. Gwen and Frederick end up going together and the episode ends in what would normally be a romantic setting, which is essentially a hall of crystals but it represents how much sugar Jamie consumes. 

Let’s back up. 

Pretty much the central conflict of this comic is that Gwen overheard Frederick call her ugly on the day they met. Up until that chaotic episode arc where Frederick meets the CPC, only the readers know that Frederick has no idea Gwen heard him, let alone that Gwen thinks she told him. Personally, I loved this use of suspense. Readers get to know that there’s been a miscommunication while (hopefully) enjoying Gwen’s developing relationship with Frederick. They both believe that they’re on the same page and they are both, in their own ways, being as honest as they can manage. But only Gwen actually has all the information...besides that detail that Frederick doesn’t know she heard him insult her. An important thing to note here is that Frederick learns very quickly that he was being horrible and shallow. He genuinely has feelings for Gwen. He tells her, in this finale, that she’s beautiful. I thought that was a neat way of *almost* closing that arc. 

When I read the part where Frederick asks Gwen what he did, my stomach dropped. But *of course* Frederick was going to bring this up. He cares very much about Gwen and I think he knows that they shouldn’t start a romantic relationship until this is cleared up. If Gwen had told him the truth, he would have been mortified *and* they would start on the same page.

But she doesn’t tell him. And, at least in my opinion, this decision was exactly where Gwen’s arc was taking her. When Frederick asks, she wants it not to matter. She likes him too, she wants this moment. And, as the episode shows, she’s been told to be more selfish. Selfishness isn’t a bad thing. Doing things you want, just because you want to do them, is okay. But only as long as you’re not hurting yourself or anyone else. Unfortunately, that’s where Gwen has gone with this decision. Deciding to push her feelings about being called ugly by someone she cares about, in exchange for what will ultimately be an illusion, is the worst thing she could have done in this situation. To her, Frederick having called her ugly is more important than the potential for a healthy relationship. Her belief that it’s the other way around, that she’s putting her positive feelings for Frederick first and ignoring the negative, is one of the most harmful aspects of this decision. It’s why her reflection goes back to being shattered. And it’s totally in character. 

‘Cursed Princess Club’ is an amazing WEBTOON. The writer, @iamlambcat (on Twitter) is an excellent storyteller. This careful control of suspension, the structure of the plot, and Gwen’s (currently incomplete) character arc is masterful. That last panel at the end of the finale is a punch to the gut and excellently sets up the next season. Gwen has come so far and yet this stumble could cost her all her progress. It won’t, obviously, because this isn’t that kind of comic. But there’s only one season left and I’m excited to find out how @iamlambcat is going to bring this central arc, as well as all the sub-plots, to a (probably unexpected and surprising) end.
