I’m seeing people reblogging my latest melody and showing interest in beepbox and honestly I couldn’t be happier!! It can be a bit difficult to navigate the first time but it’s something you get the hang of overtime. And uh again, it’s a free browser software. Tf

Wanna give a quick tip for anyone who’s interested. When you click the customize instrument button, near the bottom you will see button called effects, there you can do a lot of fun stuff w the sound like panning, distortion, echo etc. I didn’t know about this feature when I first started out and it honestly added sm to my work lol

Edit: might be also good to know, the way you save your progress is by saving it as an url link (you can save it as a shortened version so it’s not a huge block of text). This means that the song is saved in the state it was in when you copied that url, and using that link will take you to that version, even if you have worked further on it. This also means that if you’re unhappy with something in its current state, you can use a previous link and get your melody in its previous state. What I’m saying is, keep your links somewhere in chronological order!!!

New On Tumblr: Start Here!

This is a guide I promised to make for people who are new here with a few quicklinks and how to get yourself set up for the first time. (If anyone has suggestions to improve this post please lmk!)

Setting Up Your Settings:

This is going to be the first thing you set up, privacy settings and all that jazz. We're going to be going through them one by one.

Account:

Enable 2FA (You should be doing this with any social media site you have)

Filter by Tags: Hides tags you don't want to see. This may be like triggers, squicks, etc. This is common courtesy on tumblr!

Filter by post content: This is similar to filter by tags but it actually filters by the words in the post!

Content Labels: This is a CONTENT WARNING, you can set it to hide the post when it pops up or outright remove them entirely. The sexual content label does NOT mean porn is allowed on tumblr. ALSO there is a setting to "hide" this content. This is required for the IOS version of tiktok and you cannot change it on there. You must change it on the web version in order to get content with these tags to appear.

Dashboard:

This is your homepage! When you log into tumblr your dashboard will be the first thing you see.

I highly suggest enabling timestamps and shortening long posts. Especially shortening long posts. If you don't want endless scrolling turn it off and it'll show only a few posts before giving a next page link. (This is good for not losing your place).

Color Palettes: Color your Dashboard! EXTREME EYESTRAIN WARNING ON THE PRIDE THEME.

Preferences:

Turn off these settings to get chronological posts (posts in order of when they were posted):

Notifications: There are separate notif settings for each of your blogs. Turn off tumblr news and Conversational notifications.

Privacy:

Turn OFF "improved search" and turn ON "do not sell my personal information". This is opting out of AI training!!!!

Blogs:

These are blog settings for each of your blogs. Tumblr comes with the handy feature to make multiple blogs so many people have several sideblogs!

The one with the star is your main blog. If you delete this one it will delete your ENTIRE TUMBLR ACCOUNT so be careful!

Custom themes allow you to customize your tumblr. A few links to resources to find f2u page codes is included in this post.

I'm skipping a few settings here because they all have in depth descriptions and you can choose them as you please. But I'm going to offer an explanation on the last four.

Hide from people without an account:

This is automatically enabled with all new users (as of 2022) . While this enabled you CANNOT use a custom theme. It disables your regular blog url (i.e lozthusk.tumblr.com) and only allows access via the dashboard (the tumblr.com/your username url) to people who are logged in.

Discourage external searching:

This doesn't completely hide your blog from search engines but it essentially tries to as best as it can.

Exclude from Tumblr search and recommendations:

This removes your post from the tumblr search and blog recommendations. Turning this on makes it harder to find your blog!

Prevent third-party sharing:

TURN THIS ON. This prevents AI datascraping!!!

Finding Who To Follow:

Tumblr doesn't have algorithms. You have to curate the content you see.

Follow Tags

This is good for discovering people in the general sphere of your interest.

Posting:

These are quicklinks at the top of your dashboard. Whatever one you pick will be at the TOP of the page. This is also what kind of post it will be shown as in your archive.

Since there is no algorithm on tumblr, the way you share stuff you like is by reblogging it. Liking is the equivalent of just bookmarking it for later.

The tags in your RB are the comment section! When you RB don't be afraid to share your thoughts there!

[So let's see. They took away reblog chains and ability to click on a post to go to that page on a blog (fixed by xkit, partially fixed by staff but only if you click some weird ass area under the url, and it only takes you to the dash version of the blog and not to the custom blog that people put a lot of work into, with more and more feeling that they're going to get rid of said customization entirely), forcing new users to use algorithm based dash instead of the proper, classic, chronological dash that is now unique to tumblr that EVERYONE PREFERS, they changed the dashboard over to a twitter copy after saying they were "testing it out" and ignoring literally every user saying it looked awful (And then went on to do some dumbass brag on their labs blog to say "but look we listened and didn't force shorten all posts!!!" as if them listening to one thing in ten years fucking means anything to us), they made it harder to access your drafts/queue/etc, since you can no longer access them from your dash and the easiest way to access them is just fucking typing them into the url bar and letting the suggestion come up.

Am I missing anything, @staff? Because you're losing our good will. You're sure as fuck losing the good will of someone that has stuck with this fucking website since 2009. Do you know how close I am to leaving this site because of this shit? Do you know how many people have already given up? Do you not realize, care, or listen when we point out how this will cause you to LOSE users, not gain them? Because we're sick and fucking tired of it. Listen to your users. For fucking once. We know you're losing money, and hell I was gonna buy some merch but then you went and pissed away any goodwill you had left. Why should I buy merch for a website that ignores every single thing it's users say? On your wip blog you've answered several questions about having to login to send anon asks (which is the only good thing you've done recently that like 99% of users agree is a good move but you somehow find the specific two questions about that to answer), but have said nothing about what I'm sure is hundreds of asks about the anger for the new dash format.

okay so my name online is actually def (shortened from deafmute, which is taken from a jd salinger quote via ghost in the shell SAC, due to gw2's customer support viewing it as potentially offensive). that was taken or too short for many places and it became def x() which was bcz "def" is the function declaration keyword in python so i was like oh what if i was defining a function called x. the v just slipped in there as an extra character. and i guess its also mathy by using common maths vars and being a function, although i dont see the pun.
