Kaname picked at his fingers as he sat on the floor back stage. Normally he wouldn't even think about sitting on the dusty stage floor and getting his clothes messy, but right now, as they were waiting to raise the curtains and announce their new plans for the school, Kaname found it to be the most comfortable place on Earth. Oh how he felt like he wanted to fly but also to sink below the surface.

Everything would be okay, Tatsumi's voice rang in his head. I'll be there to protect you.

"T-tatsumi-senpai," he called out softly into the darkness.

"Yes, Kaname-san?" Kaname felt Tatsumi slide down the wall to sit next to him, a comforting warmth on his shoulder. They were in private, Kaname reminded himself. The audience couldn't hear his true name.

"A-ah, nothing. Are you ready?"

Tatsumi chuckled.

"Getting stage fright? It's okay, Kaname-san. I'm here."

Kaname leaned his head on Tatsumi's shoulder and closed his eyes just for a moment. He was worried about Tatsumi feeling how fast his heart was beating through his chest.

"Mmm, no it was something else." He pulled away and reached a hand for Tatsumi's cheek, brushing it with his thumb. It was now or never.

Kaname pulled Tatsumi in for a kiss, just a peck is all he meant. It was easier than trying to vocalize his feelings at least. Tatsumi was shocked, though he pulled Kaname back in for a slow and gentle kiss. It was awkward and clunky but Kaname wouldn't have it any other way.

It didn't help the pit in his stomach though as they stood up and silently agreed to discuss everything later. Tatsumi gave his hand a comforting squeeze as the curtains lifted and they faced the student body.
