After rewatching first five episodes of Torchwood S1....gonna say Day One was probably the weirdest one of the bunch (cool of it to reference the Doctor’s cut off hand though that’ll come back in Doctor Who when Jack re-appears) and....yeah, Cyberwomen and Small Worlds tied for darkest really.

i keep thinking back to that scene in cyberwomen and i geniunly cannot tell if jack was tryinf to give mouth to mouth to ianto or trying to make out sloppy style. like logically i know its probably the former but the scene tells a different story.

Torchwood as a call of cthulhu run: ideas

So last time I thought the dw episode "the giggle" can be a great coc story if the kp do some little adaptations and add some eldritch.

BUT. You know what would be even better? Torchwood.

Torchwood is literally about a team of regular humans fighting alien threats, defending humanity, and ending up tragically. All the team members have a distinct responsibility within the team. No need to really ADD san dropping stuff, just rearrange the original alien enemies and turn them into similar but cthulhu-appropriate stuff. Torchwood stories would make great coc material, and it works all the better with non-torchwood fan pls.

The easier running plan would be to just use the core plot. But this might mean losing some of that torchwood feels in terms of in-team dynamics.

Another possible plan would be like this. (note: handouts are info given only to one pl. The players can't directly access each other's handouts.)

Jack: major npc, because you can't give away all that backstory to a player.

Ianto: depends, especially if kp plans to play that cyberwomen plot line.

Handout 1 (HO1) Gwen. Give pl info and say the HO1 player joined the agency (torchwood) because they came in with pizza to investigate. Basically just the Gwen backstory.

Handout 2 (HO2) Owen. Give the pl the Owen backstory, lost wife to alien pest and joined on Jack's invitation.

handout 3 (HO3) Tosh. Same thing, give the pl the Tosh backstory.

usually I prefer HO games with 3 players (it's big enough to form a team but still managable) but the kp can also have Ianto as a HO4. The other three characters don't have backstories locked so tightly and directly to plot, so I would suggest keeping them as HO characters, but again it's all up to the kp. It is also up to kp to decide exactly how much info HO contain.

Note that players don't have to necessarily choose their professions based on the original character their HO is based on. For example the HO2 pc can choose to be a nerd police officer instead of a doctor. The HO determine the most basic backtory and team goals so the basic torchwood team characteristics is kept, but HOs should not restrict pc generation in any way (if they do restrict pc design then it's not coc anymore it's just torchwood rp).

So now there's a lot of possibilities. See torchwood as a organization of investigators united for one goal. pc can have a huge range.

I would personally insist we have Jack as a npc because this is going to be so fun for the players. As captain he can help keep overall plot more or less in check, and other torchwood members (pls) doubting him is literally canon plot. Helpful major npc that seems to be concealing info? Classical. Fun team interactions ensured.

If kp would like to include that "Owen kills Jack" bit somewhere, make sure one HO (preferably HO1) contains the info that Jack can regenerate.

I should write this one as a complete module someday and run it. If it works I may be able to release it somewhere.

the year was 20xx and queen had takened over the weorld bnecause they had lost in cyber space and now everything was robots and evil and metals and krip had no idea what to do

tech corn solders lead by kyle reese and susie had come “we havbe to run werewires come” said kyle reeze but it was too late the wire grab and enter his face as he turned into rainbows and robot “i am a werewire now and i OBEY QUEEN ROBOT!!!!” he said and fired lasers but susie used ACT and was able to put kyle reeze to sleep “kris where the hell are?” she asked.

“this is dark future now this is the what if where we lost and everything is bad and robots” krisp said with much pain

lasers shoot from sky and they got in buggy and fired machine gun as hunter killers come afgtyer them “we need to get to the tim displacmeent machine to fix the past and save the world of monsters and darkers” susie said as she fired the guns

but then berdy had come in a heliocopter and blowed up the hk “good thing i got here soon eh” he laugfhed and he was buff and strong now becuse the future was a dark place and men had to get stong to survive the lasers and robots and not finding much foods.

then drived to the castle of queen and beated up her butlers “we are almost at the time machine then we can fix the future fore good” berdy shed but then a bomb went off and he was killed and blood and dead “oh no not nerdy he was our friend and you will pay for this robot queen!” kris screamed with angry and suffer.

then the queen flyed down on her thone “ohahahahahahahaha you are too late because i made noelle obey me and gived her a robot face” she laughed and noelle come out like cyberman but girl like cyberwomen but deer and had silver robot dress and robot shoes and robot face “i am a superor lifefarm now and you will join the robot empire and betraying your friends to us” she said and it made susie real sad becuse noelle was her friend once “go kris to time machine i will buy you the times to fix this cyber future” and got gotted her axe and did a battle as kris runned

butr at the time machine WAS SPAMTON “hahaha i will go back in time inted and build a scam futureu like in 1997 and rule forever and sell the product” he laughed and jumped in and the time line change

kris look up at CASTLE SPAMTON and it was like captlaismism but 80s with neon building and lights and shops and spamton statue “DAMN YOU SPAMTON G SPAMTON I WILL STOP YOU!” said kris
