It's October 12th, 💻 Ada Lovelace Day. Ms. Suw Charman-Anderson founded this event in 2009 in celebration of the life and achievements of respected English mathematician Augusta Ada King, Countess of Lovelace, commonly referred to simply as Ada Lovelace.

During her lifetime, Ms. Lovelace rubbed shoulders with many of her era's most well-known scientists, including Michael Faraday and Charles Babbage. It's her work with Babbage on his proposed mechanical general-purpose computer, the Analytical Engine, that Ms. Lovelace is most famous for. She recognized that the machine had capabilities well beyond simple calculation and published the first algorithm designed to be run by such a machine. As a result, she's generally regarded to have been the world's first computer programmer.

Ada Lovelace Day has grown from a London Science Cabaret in 2009 to become an international celebration of the achievements of women in science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM). It's goal it to increase the profiles of women in STEM and created new role models who will encourage even more girls to embark upon STEM careers. Babbage originated the concept of a digital programmable computer, and is considered to be the "father of the computer. Babbage is credited with inventing the first mechanical general purpose computer called ‘The Analytical Engine’ in 1837. Although executing the ideas and plans for the analytical engine, and other pioneering computing machines; Babbage’s computers were never realized in his lifetime. It would not be until the late 1930’s and early 1940’s that his machine’s would become a reality. Leading to the modern computer today. 10th December 1815, birth of English mathematician, and first computer programmer Ada Lovelace. (Augusta Ada King, Countess of Lovelace), Lovelace was the only legitimate child of poet Lord Byron and his wife Lady Byron. Seperating from Lady Byron a month after Ada was born, Byron left England dying in Greece nine years later, as such Ada never knew her father. Working with the English polymath Charles Babbage on the Analytical Engine, the first proposed mechanical general purpose computer; Lovelace was the first to recognize its potential, and published the first computing algorithm in history. 12th December 1731, birth of English physician, poet, philosopher, and botanist Erasmus Darwin. Grandfather of Charles Darwin, Erasmus Darwin, presented his evolutionary ideas in verse in his works ‘Zoonomia, or, The Laws of Organic Life (1794-1796)’, and ‘The Temple of Nature’ (1802). One of the first formal theorists on evolution, his theories would influence his Grandson sixty years later in presenting a theory of how life evolved from a single common ancestor. Ada Lovelace through her friendship and work with Charles Babbage, also came to know Charles Dickens, and also Charles Darwin.
