The fire is lit and Cozy Christmas Jazz is playing on Spotify while I'm smoking this Oscar Valladares Super Fly gordo and exploring the Good Time Cigar Finish barrel pick from Cypress Craft Beer and Liquor and The Dramcode. This MGP barrel pick was finished in Cognac, Amargnac, and Oloroso Sherry barrels and comes in at a respectable 122 proof. There is a lot going on here but the short answer is that it tastes like a nice cigar. There are flavors of leather, some green apple, there is a hint of sherry, bitter chocolate, and cedar. Doing an early F-rye-day this Thirsty Thursday with an excellent bottle via Sam and the gang at @cypresscraftbeer . This Rye from Nashville Barrel Company is a mix of two sourced ryes (4 and 8 years) from an Indiana distillery. This is complex with flavors of vanilla, caramel, oak, mint, and even some jalapeños minus the heat. Just a bunch of flavors mixing and mingling through the course of tasting with a nice lingering finish. Paired this bottle with a Blackbird Cigar Co Hrafn from the crew at Skallywag Cigars. .... Closing out labor day with a glass of Three Chord Honey Toadt Finish single barrel bourbon picked by Cypress Craft Beer and Liquor. This four year old Indiana bourbon comes in at 115.3 proof but I would have not guessed that proof from how this drinks. This has sweet honey, vanilla, biscuit, and woody notes in that order. It drinks amazing with a silky mouth feel. I paired it with an Eagles Decent cigar that was an R. Fields exclusive (who knew a grocery store had good cigars). .... As a boy from Illinois I love following the various distilleries in the Great Lakes region and I've got to say I have not been disappointed by anything I've tried from Driftless Glen. I'm told they have a really great gin but I can't seem to find it here in California.
