Putting some smoke in the air for the crews the responded to the T2 tankers Fort Mercer and Pendleton in distress off the coast of Massachusetts 71 years ago this night, February 18, 1952. Much has been made of the rescue of the Pendleton, where Bernie Webber and his crew aboard the CG36500 rescued 32 of the 41 aboard the Pendleton. Tonight I'd like to focus on the Fort Mercer rescue efforts. Thanks to the efforts of the USCGC Yakutat, USCGC Acushnet, USCGC Eastwind, USCGC Unimak, and Air Station Salem only 5 of the Fort Mercer's 43 crew were lost. The last crewmen were rescued from the bow by a hail Mary play. Yakutat fired a messenger line across to the bow of the Fort Mercer and used a raft to rescue the last two survivors. As they were coming across the bow began to sink forcing the Yakutat to back down in the hope the line would break. .... “You have no choice, Captain! Closing out labor day with a glass of Three Chord Honey Toadt Finish single barrel bourbon picked by Cypress Craft Beer and Liquor. This four year old Indiana bourbon comes in at 115.3 proof but I would have not guessed that proof from how this drinks. This has sweet honey, vanilla, biscuit, and woody notes in that order. It drinks amazing with a silky mouth feel. I paired it with an Eagles Decent cigar that was an R. Fields exclusive (who knew a grocery store had good cigars). .... I'm the proud son of a union man (IAFF Local 2) and one of the things I love is working with lots of union and guild people in Hollywood. Big up to everyone who came out to Jack Rabbit last night! It was jam packed with local and national talent, incredible musicianship, breathtaking artistry, attentive bartenders, and a crowd ready to make this a special Saturday night in the 716! First, let’s recognize the band: @markmarinacciomusic on keys, @d_ray716 on drums, @danross_music on bass and guitar, and @kadeshflow joining on trombone. On short notice, this group learned a ton of original music, showed up, and showed out! You are the real MVPs! Second, I have to thank Kadesh Flow for traveling (flying) from Kansas City, MO to bring his unique brand and talent to the city of good neighbors. A couple of times, I watched up the crowds’ eyes light up; they were fully resonating with your art. Finishing with that Coolio tribute took everyone off guard! Legendary! Next, I want to show love to for the vocal accompaniment of @greeniesha , @imdavestewy , and @themdukezkargbo (Mad Dukez); you all put on a master class in rocking the crowd. I work in the world of whiskey, as a woman I see the strength and the power of women coming on strong. I applaud them all. I work on the backside of the industry. I’m rarely out front.
