    Oh man, it’s been a minute since we’ve talked about Mr. Power Sponge himself!! Guess it’s time to go back to that one... 👀 Heehee. (I also was reading the fics I wrote for this ship awhile ago, so this works out!!)

    First and foremost can confirm: this will be following the Good Karma path! I’m too nice to be mean, and this reflects in the ship, LMAO. With that in mind...

    Delsin doesn’t even bump into Rachel first. It’s actually their partner in crime, Sanna, whom he finds first. Causing troubles for D.U.P. and disappearing into the waters whenever they try to catch her. Of the conduits running around, she’s one of the few who doesn’t immediately invite a negative response; a lot of people- children especially- kinda knock her into the “mermaid” mythology first, so there’s some kinda hope that she may actually be pretty cool if they do [x] thing. (Giving her a catch of fish, offer pretty trinkets at the beach, etc.)

    Chasing her down is what leads him to find their hideout, and the Emotional Manipulation Conduit, Rachel. (Sanna’s being Water Control.) It’s a small scuffle of panic and, eventually, Delsin is able to get them both to calm down. Fetch and Eugene have already joined up with him, by that point, so the addition of Senna and Rachel in one go rounds up the team to a solid 5.

    All’s well, that ends well! ...At least, until Delsin starts catching feelings.

    Rach’s silly, chill, a constant snoozer (thanks to the drain their powers exert on them), friend to animals, supports his art while doing their own... There’s a lot to like. Bonus for maybe offering some fries to take, and they just. Bit down and ate them from his fingers while gaming. That did some things to his heart.

    Lots of subtleties were attempted, to no avail. Turns out, his crush is horribly oblivious; who knew?! (Sanna did, and could’ve told him as much. Didn’t, because watching him struggle was funnier.)

    Eventually, the rest of the team works together to help Delsin stop pining in what could count for “silence” and start offering ideas. Most of which, others that don’t...and finally, the idea comes up: “Why not make some art for them? Make it a standout event?”

    So, as detailed in this fic ( ;3 ), he does eventually figure it out...in his own way! And with less stumbling around like a dork, to boot.

    In short, conduits are eventually accepted into society with the help of Delsin’s group forerunning the whole thing, he’s got his datemate who is weirdly good with helping people calm down from even the worst of situations...and yeah, they’re still stealing his fries.

    So... Yeah, things are pretty good~!

I have been in the borderlands so hard lately and I was struggling to find x reader fics and I figured "what better thing to do, than to provide for the fandom??" Plus like, some of the fics on ao3 TERRIFIED me. They were really ooc(which is fine! To each there own, just not my thing) or they would do something REALLY FUCKING WEIRD like super unhinged dni type stuff 😭 so I just started making me own content.

It was really fun to write and I really can’t thank her enough for her donation, I hope you enjoy!

The first time Rhys laid his eyes on D, he was smitten. He’d always been a bit of a playboy, an incessant flirt who thought his charm and brilliance were enough to dazzle anyone. Unfortunately, he wasn’t nearly as charming as he perceived himself to be. That is, although he was generally good looking and could be counted on for a witty one liner or swoon inducing compliment on occasion, Rhys was by and large a big goofball. He’d transitioned from being a pining two-bit business man, a mover and shaker who dreamed of following in his idol’s footsteps, to someone who had experienced a life altering journey that left few parts of him unchanged. Instead of being cynical and two timing, he now guarded against dishonesty and sought out those who were caring, compassionate, and moderately trustworthy.

From the moment he’d seen her, Rhys knew that D was one of the good guys. On the outside, he could understand where some might say she was rough, unapproachable, and possibly concealing a diabolical, conniving side. But wasn’t that just the public’s general opinion of info brokers? They were people who primarily worked in the shadows, gathered dirt on everyone and anyone across the cosmos, and amassed an indispensable arsenal of secrets and codes that could very well demolish even the most well-established individuals. It was a skillset Rhys found fascinating and indispensable, and getting the opportunity to work alongside such a person was a thrill in and of itself.

As he approached her, Rhys struggled to decide how he should introduce himself. Did she already know everything about him? Had she already been briefed on the nature of his situation and position, and even some of the things he’d experienced in the past? Should he bother with a petty introduction? His thoughts became tangled as he continued to distractedly observe her, and he barely managed to avoid tripping over a table.

Aside from her occupation, this woman had an aura and look that intrigued Rhys. Her hair was shaved to one side and dyed bright pink, a style that wasn’t uncommon in this locale. As he appreciated its neon color a blush of the same shade tinted his cheeks. It was rare for Rhys to be caught off guard before he’d even started talking to a person. But D surprised Rhys with her presence, impressed him with her skills and reputation, and enchanted him with her appearance. All in all, he was absolutely smitten.

As he finally reached her table he slid into the booth across from her, and she lifted her eyes to meet his. A spark zapped through their bodies the moment their eyes connected, and they both remained silent in the wake of this unique phenomenon. Without speaking a word, the two understood that some strong, unspoken force was working between them. They didn’t know the details, but their relationship would soon blossom into something neither of them expected.
