When Mal bows back instead of curtsying

i may not like her character or her as a person, but dammit i will admit Mal has cute moments, like this-i like her nose scrunchies, near all her D1 moments, and during this scene-she does a lil-wiggle when she stands up straight. Mal has cute moments, there- i said it.

the tl; dr version of mal’s auradon!raised verse bc the verse description i started to write was RIDICULOUSLY long..

-raised by aurora and phillip, audrey considered her sister, they’re two peas in a pod, aside from typical sister bickers and fights -name is mallory fauna rose -hair spelled permanently blonde by fgm and was gifted a bracelet that stops her magic -no one knows her true parentage except aurora, phillip, adam, belle, fgm and some auradonian guards -same with her hair  -her magic she knows about but isn’t allowed to tell anyone  -kind, graceful, big-hearted, a true princess, pretty much the opposite of canon!mal -has dreams about herself as a baby, maleficent and the isle. but doesn’t know what any of it means -when the vks (just evie, jay and carlos in this case) come to auradon mal feels an unexplainable pull to them -things don’t hit the fan though until the love spell happens, and it’s with evie in this case. but mal immediately knows some shit is up because it’s so unlike ben -she goes the vks pissed af because her sister is heartbroken and they’ve done something to ben -they trying denying it and in a fit of anger, mal rips her bracelet off and threatens them with magic - but her eyes start to glow green and suddenly the blonde drains out of her hair and it’s purple once more -and suddenly the vks are like ‘oh shit’ because everyone on the isle knew the story of maleficent’s child, the purple-haired, green-eyed child -mal freaks out and runs home and starts questioning everything and demands answers from aurora and phillip -left with no choice, they tell her the truth -audrey comes in while mal’s freaking out and mal spills the beans to her bc she’s expecting some comfort -and maybe it isn’t intentional, but upon hearing the news, the briefest flash of disgust, of fear, flashes across audrey’s face... and mal is hurt.. -so she runs again, runs and runs until she finds herself with the remote to cross, and open, the barrier to the isle. not even totally sure how she got it... -and without thinking, takes herself to the isle... -she runs into maleficent and there’s a ‘reunion’. and maleficent is pleased to have her child back... -but as maleficent starts unveiling all kinds of evil plans to mal, things she’s been waiting years to talk about with her daughter.. mal balks at them, she doesn’t want to evil... -it’s now maleficent’s turn to look at her in disgust, except this is more than intentional. she comments that auradon has ‘made her soft’ and mal is ‘no child of hers’. she tells mal she wants nothing to do with her, that she should just run along back to auradon -hurt once more, that’s exactly what mal does, only to find her parents and her sister waiting for her at the barrier. there’s a lot of hugs, tears, and apologies and soon the family goes back home -after all of this, mal can’t ignore her connection to the vks anymore, plus she has so many questions, and she wants to get to know them. she slowly befriends them -(there’s questions she won’t ask, though, but can’t help wondering. is that how all parents on the isle treat their children? are they all raised on these evil ideals? how do these children live on a place like that?) -when family day happens, mal shocks everyone when she sides with the vks, and it causes a rift between her and audrey -things don’t change until the coronation, where things kind of play out the same way -mal still gives a speech, telling the vks that they’re not their parents -”i am maleficent’s daughter” (loud gasps heard all around as everyone finds out for the first time) “but look at me, i’m nothing like her, i have so much good in me, and i know all of you do too. i can see it, when i look at you. evie, you’re one of the kindest people i’ve ever met, and you’re so brilliant. you can do amazing things, i know it. carlos, you’re such a loyal and amazing friend, and look at you, you’re holding a dog right now, even though you were raised to be afraid of them. jay, you love being apart of a team, and based on everything you’ve told me, that isn’t how you were raised. and you haven’t stolen anything in weeks. all of you are capable of being good, all of you belong here, just as much as everyone else, just as much as i do. choose good, you guys. make yourselves happy. don’t let them control you anymore.” -vks choose good, but maleficent still escapes from the isle, because jane still had stolen the wand -but mal defeats her, with the help of the other three, still. and she still shrinks to the size of the love in her heart... and mal still decides to keep her. deciding to give her the same chance aurora and phillip gave her so many years ago -mal and audrey make up and promise to never go that long without talking ever again -post the end of the movie, mal ends up going back to blonde but with the purple at the end a la d2. saying “yeah, i’m mostly auradon, but i have a little bit of isle in me, i know that now, and i don’t want to hide it any longer.” -pretty much canon divergent completely of d2 and d3 as i’m not even sure how either plot would work here... -but kids have still been getting off the isle, kind of going with what we all did before d2 came out, where we all kind of just had kids coming over as transfers and such, and yeah -the full super long and more detailed description may be released someday, but for now, this is what i’m using as it’s just easier
