kisses before dinner — steve comes home to his girls after a long day. 2k, mom!reader
Steve has a back ache twinging between his shoulders that takes his breath away as he takes the step up into the front door. It gets caught on the latch, which is awesome, Steve’s so glad you’re being safe late at night, but deplorable in that he has wood grain etched into his jaw and no way inside.
“Girls?” He knocks the glass pane. “Anybody home?”
Everyone should be home. Your car is in the driveway, the girls’ shoes are by the wall. He pushes the door open as far as he can (not far) and weasels his face into the gap to look for you. It’s dark besides the upstairs bathroom light.
Steve calls your name a few times, but eventually comes to the realisation that you’re all asleep and he’s locked out. He closes the door and heads back to his car to scrounge the spare back door key from under his seat.
He fights through the garden gate covered in brambles to the backyard. It hasn’t been touched since summer, forgotten things left to the elements. Avery’s bike flakes with copper coloured rust against the wall. The trampoline net is tangled and fallen off of one side. There are plastic cups in the stinging nettles growing back beneath it and gummy bears swollen with water along the paving stones like some poor retelling of Hansel and Gretel. He unlocks the back door and promptly knocks over the trash can he’d left in front of it. His back whines as he cleans it away, but at least it’s warm inside.
It’s good to be home.
He shoves the toppled garbage back into the can, washes tomato sauce off of his hands in the sink, and lets himself bask in his own poorly lit company for a moment, rubbing his tired eyes. He was hoping for a welcome party. It took longer to help Robin move than they’d anticipated.
“I won’t be back for a while,” he’d said apologetically down the phone.
“Okie dokie,” you’d crooned. He didn’t need to see you to know there was a baby in your lap. “Just come home when you can, babe. And lift with your knees! I’ll put your plate in the fridge, yes? Love you.” Your voice turned to sugar. “Love you, love you, love you, honey.” You definitely weren’t talking to him at that point. Mother of my kids, he’d thought reverently, the strength of a thousand men restored for an hour or two before the fatigue truly set in and he and Robin considered leaving the rest of her furniture on her new front lawn.
He scratches his hair from his eyes with both hands. Mother of my kids, he thinks again. You’ve actually managed to keep the kitchen tidy, the only evidence of a day of play being the grape juice rings on the dining table placemats. How the fuck you’ve done it is a miracle worth marvelling. Three children, one (admittedly smaller) baby bump, and a full eighteen hours by yourself. You’re very impressive.
He decides to tell you emphatically with his face in your neck. He should shower, and he will apologise to you for subjecting you to his sweaty hair in the morning. You’ll shrug off his apology, say something sweet about for better or worse or maybe wrinkle your nose and kiss him anyways.
Steve honestly can’t find any shame about how much he likes you. Like and love can begin to diverge in a marriage, especially after kids when your duty as parents is more important than it is as partners, but you’ve yet to let him pull away, and he won’t give you a reason to. He’ll keep trying as hard as possible to be a husband you can adore. And you don’t have to do much, really. Realistically you give the majority of yourself every day to Steve and your kids, but he would cling to you if you got sick of it. He knows he would. You could turn hermit and live under the bed, and Steve would spend half his life on his stomach just looking at you.
Half trying to pull you out again. The other half getting the girls ready for school. He’s so tired he doesn’t realise that this is too many halves.
When he gets to the top of the stairs he feels like a lifetime has passed since he left that morning, bright and early at 5AM. There’d been driving, car swaps, booing at people from behind the wheel, a hundred boxes, a million trips up and down the stairs, and a suspicious washing machine recalibration. This was without the cold coke drinking, peanuts, popcorn, mistimed movie references, and the obligatory insulting of Robin’s girlfriend’s mauve chaise, of which Robin refused to participate.
Between all that, there’d been worrying, and a want for more phone calls. Promise me you’ll call me if you need anything at all, he’d said that morning, giving your face a fond caress. There’s a confidence that comes with this much love. Steve can pour every inch of his affection for you into one touch and knows you’ll soak it up like a sponge. Really. Any problems, any stress, any tantrums. Just call me. I’m twenty minutes away.
You were grateful if amused, telling him he didn’t need to worry so much, and then offering him another slice of toast.
Is it weird how much I love my wife? he wonders, pushing open the bedroom door gently.
You’re actually awake! He’s shocked and a little betrayed to find you looking at him, but the betrayal fades when he notices the swelling around your eyes and your trembling arm as you hoist yourself up under Avery’s weight. He’s woken you up coming in.
“Sorry,” he mouths, frowning at your shakiness.
You manage a smile and beckon him forward. The problem is the little ladies strewn about in the way. Avery drools on your chest while Dove takes up the entirety of Steve’s side, spread into a star shape, and Bethie snores loudly by your knees. An especially aggressive one makes him laugh as he rounds the bed to your side.
“Hello,” he whispers, taking your face into a loving hand, “sorry I’m back so late.”
You smile into his palm but don’t say anything.
“You okay? Had a good day?” he asks.
You hum something nonsensical. He wipes at your cheek in the rough way you enjoy, your face bumped with every stroke of his thumb.
“Did you…”  Your eyelashes flutter closed. “Did you eat?”
“Loads. Sorry. I’ll eat my dinner tomorrow.”
You wrinkle your nose. He’s been dying to see it. “Don’t bother, it wasn’t my best.”
“All dinners are your best.”
You cover his hand with yours, and then you steal it away from your cheek and kiss it all over. Steve bends down to hug you.
“Missed you,” you say at the same time. Steve laughs. “Was it a long day?” you ask.
“I could ask you the same thing.”
“It was aeons,” you say. “The girls were good, mostly. Baby not so much.”
“Aw, no,” he croons softly, “what’s she been doing?”
“She won’t let me eat.”
Steve rubs the top of your arm. “I’m sorry, honey. You should’ve called me.”
“What are you gonna do, H?”
He breathes out into the side of your face. “You’re right, of course. What can I do?”
He can’t do a thing to ease your morning sickness, so… Steve ends up taking a knee on the bed beside you to hold you for a while, no rush to lay down even though he aches in strings and shouts. “I’m glad I can’t get pregnant. I’d have hundreds of your babies if I could and it would be torture.”
You laugh at his absurdity in the giggly startled way he’d been hoping for.
“Did you throw up?” he asks, pulling away enough to see your face while his hand starts the soft journey down your front to your bump. You’re about three months along and the bump came quickly. It’s cute and Steve loves it and he tries not to be weird about it but he’s weird about you.
“No, just kept churning. I made eggs for breakfast and we can’t eat them anymore.”
Steve kisses your cheek, the corner of your eye, knowing it’ll make you happy. Your smile follows swiftly after, and he kisses that with gusto. “I don’t even like eggs,” he mumbles.
“You love eggs.”
“What was it like being the stay at home mom today?” he asks.
“Hard. But fun. Avery was being really nice to me all day, did you have something to do with that?”
“Avery’s always nice.”
Your smile widens impossibly, “Yeah, but she was asking me if I wanted to sit down and if I needed a glass of water all day.”
Steve shrugs. “Doesn’t sound like something I’d do.”
“Well don’t do it again, H. She’s just a baby. She doesn’t need to worry about me.”
Steve strokes your forehead, totally in your orbit. “She’s not worrying. Are you worrying about her when you take care of her? And sometimes you need a reminder.”
You chew it over. “Okay… you’re right. You win that one, Harrington. Mostly ‘cos I’m too tired.”
Steve always wins when he gets to slide into bed next to you. You push yourself over and bunch the kids up tighter. There’s not quite enough room for him. He feels as though he’s one little legged kick from falling back out, but he doesn’t mind, wrapping an arm around you and Avery where she’s sliding off of you and onto the mattress between you both. The poor girl is in a deep sleep, dribbling from the corner of her mouth. Steve wipes it away.
“You comfortable enough?” he asks.
“I’m fine. Thank you for asking.”
He rests his head against yours on the pillows. “Missed you.”
“But you had fun, right?”
“It was great. I feel like I ran a marathon.”
“Exhausted?” you ask.
“And accomplished… You sure you’re okay? It was a long day by yourself. That stunt you pulled in the kitchen? Incredible.”
“I thought you’d like that. I told the girls you’d buy them a pony.”
“You did not.”
You laugh into his cheek. “No, I didn't, you caught me… I’m fine, really. I did miss you. It’s not nice, not seeing you. I’m used to a couple of hours, but it started feeling wrong when it was dark out, I… it’s silly but I was thinking about how horrible it would be if you never came back–”
Your pitch lifts up as Steve gasps and slaps a hand over your mouth (doesn’t slap, but covers, big hand on your lips and pressing them shut without sympathy).
“Don’t be ridiculous.” He meets your eyes, smiling hard despite the fatigue clinging to you both, and doesn’t buckle, even as you kiss his palm again. “Pregnancy brain is a scary thing.”
Your eyes turn to melting. He’s putty immediately, pulling your hand away to caress your cheek.
“Wanna be crazy in love in the morning?” he asks gently. You put your arm behind Avery’s back and smile as she snuggles into your ribs. Steve kisses your nose. “Go to sleep, honey. I can feel how tired you are. Back to normal in the morning.”
“Love you, Steve.”
“Love you, too.”

𖡡 JASPER, CHICAGO - 1990.
Two more months to go and you felt as if it was even longer than that.
But Steve felt as if it could be any minute now, making you practically push him out of the door so he could make it to work on time and you get some peace, promising if anything happened you’d call Eddie or Robin.
He didn’t like the sound of that, but did it to please you anyway.
You love Steve, really love him.
But sometimes you needed a moment to yourself. Especially now.
Your feet was propped up, ankles slightly swollen, with a bowl of cheese puffs and another small bowl of sour cream resting on swell of your stomach.
You would’ve cringed at the thought several months ago, but right now? It was heaven.
The door opens, keys being dropped into the bowl.
“I’m telling you, Suzie misses me!”
“Dude, she broke up with you,” Steve says pointedly. “For a reason.”
“It was a stupid reason.”
You shake your head, smiling as they both step into the living room. Dustin excitedly drops his bag, making his way over.
“I’ve missed you!”
“I’ve missed you too, Dusty.” You grin, watching as he plops next to you.
Steve had - reluctantly - agreed to let Dustin stay. (He was nervous that he might break something and it would cause you to hurt yourself, or rather, if you cleaned too much, you’d immediately go into labor.)
You were the one to tell Steve that he could stay, as long as he was careful.
And when you give him that look when he’s about to question if it’s a good idea, he agrees.
“What are you eating?”
“Cheese puffs and sour cream,” You grin. “Eddie and Robin is on their way with a strawberry milkshake.”
Dustin’s face screws up, but Steve pouts. “Honey, if you wanted me to get you a milkshake, you could’ve told me before I left and I would’ve brought you back one before picking him up.”
“I know you would’ve, but I didn’t want him ti get kidnapped.”
“They would immediately take him back to the airport.”
“Hey!” Dustin throws his hands up.
There’s a knock before the door is opened. “We come baring milkshakes.”
You stand, Steve is immediately by your side, helping you up.
“Gimmie one, please.” You waddle towards Robin, grabbing the styrofoam cup from her hand, taking a long sip.
You hum, nodding as you close your eyes.
“This is definitely what I needed,” You glance between the both of them. “Thank you.”
“Mhm,” Eddie smiles and holds out a gift bag. “I wasn’t able to get the little gremlin anything for the baby shower, but here you go.”
“Eds,” You shake your head. “You didn’t have to. It’s okay.”
“I know. But still,” He grins. “I think you’ll like it.”
You set the cup down and Steve eyes the bag cautiously. You grab the pink bag from him, sparkles falling to the carpet. You pull the mix of white and pink tissue paper out of the bag.
In the bottom is a folded up onesie and dress. You reach in the bag and unfold it, placing the bag on the table.
The onesie was a green, long sleeved one with Metallica Justice For All album. Steve throws Eddie a look.
“What if she doesn’t like Metallica?”
Eddie smirks. “Oh, she will.”
You laugh a bit, unfolding the dress that had tiny white skulls all over it.
“Thank you, Eddie. I can’t wait til shes able to wear them.”
He grins, rocking back and forth on his heels.
“And I can’t wait to play her songs on the guitar.”
Robin speaks up. “I’ll be sure to get her some earplugs.”
-
TWO MONTHS LATER.
It was past the due date and you were getting nervous.
Nothing has helped your water break. There were tiny concentrations, but nothing to major.
Steve was calling the house on the dot every hour, sometimes you and Dustin ignored it, which made him go into a frenzy and call Robin or Eddie.
The bags were packed and ready to go. You were sure Steve had missed something, but you know he would immediately go back to pick it up.
He had told you to stay in bed and rest. But you certainly didn’t listen.
With a hand on your belly, Dustin visiting Eddie’s and Robin’s apartment upstairs, you were cleaning.
Light cleaning, but cleaning nonetheless.
“If you could, baby, just. . . hurry,” You speak to your bump, thumb moving up and down slightly. “Daddy is about to have a brain aneurysm.”
You laugh into the quiet apartment, sitting down now and letting out a huff.
The door opens and keys drop into the bowl. “Where’s Dustin?” Steve immediately asks.
“At Eddie’s and Robin’s.” You rub your hand up and down, not looking up at him.
“What?! What if you would’ve went into labor and no one was here, huh? What would’ve-”
“Baby,” You finally look at him. He stops and stares at you with wet, wide, brown eyes. You pat the free spot next to you. He huffs our a breath, walking over and sitting down next to you, careful not to make any sort of movement. “I’m not fragile or sick, I’m pregnant. If something would’ve happened, I would’ve called them immediately. You should know this.”
He looks at your swollen belly sadly. “Do you think she’s okay?”
“She might be shy,” You tease softly. You smile once you see the corner of his lip curl into a small smile. His hand reaches out to rest on your stomach. Yours rest on his cheek. “I promise you, I’m okay. . . She’s okay.”
He only nods slightly, tapping softly before standing from the couch. “You hungry?” He leans down, hands resting on the couch. You lean back to stare up at him.
“Nope. Are you? I could make you-”
“I’ll make it,” He’s quick to cut you off. “You stay here and rest.” He leans down more, pressing a quick kiss to your forehead before lifting up and making his way to the kitchen.
You shake your head and sigh, closing your eyes as you lean your head back against the soft cushion.
You wince slightly, moving an inch. Something wet catches your attention. Eyes flying open, you look down.
“Uh. . . Steve?” You call out.
“Change your mind on the sandwich? I knew you would, that’s why-”
“No,” You say simply, staring up at the boy who held two plates. “I, uh, I think my water broke.”
The plates drop, bread and sandwich meat flying everywhere, and he quickly makes his way over to you. “Oh, my god. Okay. . . Okay. This- this is happening. Finally. Uh, what do you need? Do you need anything?”
“I need to get into the car and go to the hospital. That would be nice.” You wince again, trying to stand. He’s quick to help pull you up.
“Right. Okay, yeah. Hospital. Let me get the bags!” He quickly makes his way to the room. You waddle over to the phone, quickly dialing your friends number.
“Hello?”
“Robs, hey, it’s me,” You wince again, pressing a hand to the wall. “Uh, it’s time?”
There’s silence - then there’s screaming so loud that you have to pull the phone away from your ear.
“Hello?” You say into the phone before the dial tone echos into your ear. You shake your head, placing the phone back onto the receiver.
There’s a stumbling and a dull thud. You glance over to see Steve on the floor.
“Sorry! Sorry! I’m okay!” He declares, standing from the floor and lifting up the suitcase.
You shake your head and the door is flying open. “Let’s go! What are we waiting on!”
“Steve, what are you doing?!”
“The baby is almost-"
“Can everyone just be quiet, please?!” You don’t mean to snap, but the yelling wasn’t helping your pain at all. “Sorry,” You breathe. “But yelling isn’t going to make this go any faster, okay?”
They all nod, breathless.
“Dustin,” You say, and he perks up. “Beside the bed is the camcorder. Grab it.” He nods, walking past everyone quickly.
“Eddie, you’re driving.”
“Oh, no. Nope. That is not happening.” Steve shakes his head.
“Steve,” You turn to look at him. “I would rather you be beside me on the way there,” You quickly look at Eddie. “No offense.”
“None taken.”
You turn back to Steve. “And his focus will be on the road. If you were driving, you’d be all over the place. And I’d rather get there safely than you have a wreck.”
“She’s right.” Robin points out.
Steve sighs because, of course he knows, you’re right.
“Fine.”
You smile softly, but wince after. He steps closer. “I’m okay. Robs, can you go with Eddie and take the suitcase so Steve doesn’t accidentally make the clothes fly all over the place?”
She giggles at the thought but nods, walking over and yanking it from Steve’s hand. “Give it, Dingus.”
He rolls his eyes, watching as they quickly walk out. Dustin steps out. “What took you so long?!” Steve turns to him.
“I had to pee!”
Steve pinches his brows and stares at the boy. Dustin walks out of the apartment, you and Steve following behind, Steve’s hand never leaves your back.
-
Your eyes slowly flutter open, glancing at Steve who was bouncing baby Nadia - or ‘gremlin’ Eddie affectionately calls her - in his arms.
She was so tiny and chunky.
You grin at the two, knowing (and hoping) Dustin had recorded them for a bit so you could have it on tape.
Steve was humming softly, fingertip slowly dragging across the baby’s soft nose.
“Stevie.” You say softly.
He quickly turns, smiling softly at you and walking over carefully to sit next to you.
One leg stays stretched out and the other is bent, careful not to dig into your thigh.
“I knew you’d be a good father.” You sit up carefully, reaching over and running a forehead over her cheek. Some of her brown hair was poking out from the pink beanie.
He blushes from the compliment, although he turns it around to you - always one to never to take compliments well. “You were awesome.”
“Thank you, Stevie,” You place a quick soft, peck to his lips. “Thank you for staying.”
“Are you kidding me? I wouldn’t miss this for the world.” He knows what you mean.
You smile sadly and look away, leaning your head against his shoulder. He places his lips to the top of your head.
“I love you.” He mumbles.
“I love you too.” You nod softly, sniffing quietly.
He decides not to say anything more, besides one thing. “Five more to go?”
You laugh softly, nodding as you stare up with him with love pouring from your eyes. “Five more to go.”
Dustin smiles from the door, pulling the camera away once he has a good second or two of the kiss, leaning against the wall.
“I think I might become a producer.” He shrugs.
Eddie lifts a brow at him. “You’ve had a couple of jobs in mind.”
“Yeah, but this might stick.” Dustin grins, walking away.
Eddie rolls his eyes and peeks into the room. He smiles softly at the scene - almost too perfect to be true.

you were in the last few days of your pregnancy, leading up to the 39 week mark and to say you were relieved was an understatement. the past few weeks had been awful from back pain, braxton hicks, swollen ankles, heartburn, headaches, nausea. the list went on and on. you, Steve and Eddie had moved a few hours outside of Hawkins wanting a fresh start in a new house and it was absolutely perfect.
with it only being a few hours away from Hawkins it meant you could still visit your friends and family and vice versa. as you were pregnant you didn't like sitting in the car for the almost three hour drive, it hurt your back and Steve didn't like stopping the car every ten minutes so you could get out and walk around to try and ease the pain. so they usually opted driving to your house.
today, Eddie had to drive back to Hawkins to help Wayne at the garage with a few cars. Wayne hated calling Eddie to help him and Eddie hated leaving you with you being so close to your due date but you insisted you were absolutely fine and he'd left in the morning before both you and Steve woke up.
you had woken up around nine with intense back pain and cramping. you had been having braxton hicks for the past few days and that's what you usually put it down to but not this time, this was painful. so painful it made you groan slightly which you never did. after the pain subsided you sat up in bed, Steve no where to be found making you sigh and get out of the bed.
you could hear the radio playing quietly and Steve's humming to enjoy the silence by Depeche mode making smile softly. you tried make your steps as quiet as possible trying to to disturb his 'party' whilst doing the dishes and he luckily didn't notice you. his back was facing the door as he hovered over the sink, cleaning the few plates that had been left in there from the night before.
you walked towards him and wrapped your arms around his waist trying to hug him as best you could with a huge bump in the way. "morning honey" he put the plates down and turned to face you, wrapping his arms around your shoulders. he placed a delicate kiss on your head and smiled when he felt your arms tighten around him.
"you sleep okay?" he asked as you pulled back from the hug to kiss him and nodded. "i had a really bad ache this morning, it was so painful it woke me up" you said like it was nothing, walking to the other side of the kitchen to grab a bowl to make some cereal but it made Steve's heart race. this could be you going into labour and he was here without Eddie who was adamant on being here for your labour.
you had all decided to do a home birth, the pool set up in the middle of the spacious living room ready to be filled when you went into labour. you'd always wanted to try a home birth, being in your own home made you feel so much more comfortable than thinking about being in a hospital. if something went wrong you were only twenty minutes away from the hospital so there was always that option if you decided to change your mind.
after making your cereal you walked to the living room, sighing as you sat down to finally be off your feet. your legs ached all the time and walking made you out of breath. you rested the bowl on top of your belly, slowly eating as you watched some random tv show but after a few minutes you felt another pain shoot through your lower stomach.
this time the pain was like a period cramp but way more intense. you lent forward to place your bowl on the coffee table and delicately place your hands on top of your stomach, closing your eyes and breathing through this pain as best you could. as luck would have it Steve walked into the living room so he could relax but that thought went completely out of his head when he saw you.
"baby, what's the matter?" he sat down next to you and stroked his hand up and down on your back. when the pain finally stopped after thirty seconds you sighed feeling relieved that it had finally stopped. it felt like it was going on forever. "i think i'm having contractions and Eddie's not here" you looked at him. his eyes went wide as he listened to you talk.
he knew how much it meant to you that both of them were there. you were all becoming parents and you really didn't want one of them to miss it. Steve knew some days the shop was so busy that Eddie couldn't physically answer the phone and most of the guys that worked there were assholes and let the phone ring. but he prayed that these were false labour pains.
"it's okay. we need to be sure that they're contractions honey and if they are we will call Eddie. he'll be here" Steve kissed the side of your head and continued to run his hand up and down your back to try comfort you as best he could. "what time did you wake up?" he knew from the many books he read that he needed to time your contractions.
with you saying you woke up with one he needed to make sure he was being precise about this. "i think it was nine" he looked down at his wrist watch and saw it was 9:14- fourteen minutes apart. "you tell me if you have another okay? i just need to make sure these are contractions" he said as the both of you got comfortable on the sofa.
Steve wrapped his arm around your shoulders bringing you into him as the two of you watched the tv, well you were, Steve was sneaking glances at you every so often just making sure you weren't having contractions but after he finally settled down after ten minutes you sucked in a breath and sat up. another contraction. he glanced down at his wrist watch again and realised they were getting closer together.
you were definitely in labour. you grabbed hold of Steve's hand and squeezed it tightly as the pain was almost unbearable. your mum had told you contractions were painful but you didn't realise they would be this painful. you moaned in pain as the contraction continued. "breathe sweetheart, that's it" you heard Steve say as you squeezed his hand tighter.
"could you get me some water please? i feel really hot and i need to cool down" you asked fanning yourself with your hand as the pain from the contraction subsided. "of course, do you need anything else?" with a shake of your head he got up and walked back to the kitchen to get your water.
whilst waiting you felt a popping sensation before water gushing out of you, soaking your pyjama pants. "Steve" you shouted as you slowly stood up, hearing his footsteps quickly approaching you. he looked at you then looked at the sofa which was soaking wet with clear fluid. his eyes widened he honestly felt like he could throw up. this was it.
"holy shit" he whispered walking towards you. "you have to call Mary" Mary was your midwife and would be with you at home whilst you gave birth. she had told you at your last appointment that you needed to alert her as soon as your water broke. he nodded, his eyes still wide "i will but let's get you into something clean, do you think you can walk up the stairs honey?"
his right hand went to your back once again, trying his best not to freak out in front of you. he saw you nod and held out his left hand this time so he could help you walk up the stairs to change. once the two of you were in the bedroom Steve walked to your draws, pulling out a new pair of pyjama pants.
"do you need help changing?" he asked as he walked toward you with the new pants. you shook your head and took the pants from him, whispering a small thank you before you felt a kiss on the side of your head. "i'm gonna go call Mary then i'll call Eddie. shout to me if you need help okay?" you nodded this time and watched as he left your bedroom.
after a few minutes of you changing into your new pants you felt another wave of pain through your stomach making you sit down wincing. the pain was almost unbearable. "i've phoned Mary. she's on her way but i couldn't get ahold of Eddie." Steve said walking into the bedroom.
Steve saw your pained expression as he stood in front of you "another contraction?" you only nodded. he held his hands open so he could help you stand up. "you need to keep calling him. he can't miss it" you squeezed Steve's hands as you pulled yourself up off the bed. "i will honey don't worry. he'll be here" he kissed your cheek reassuringly.
-
"where the fuck is Eddie" you said as you bent over the kitchen island, trying to relieve your pain in any way you could. Mary was behind you massaging your back as you breathed through your contraction. "he didn't answer. he might be really busy-"
"Steve they have people who answer the phone. keep calling" you cut him off. it was now 2pm and Eddie still hadn't answered the phone. your labour was going slow and Mary had told you that you were only at 4cm. that meant you had another 6 to go. "y/n sweetheart try not to stress. it's not good for you or the baby" Mary said as she took her hands off your back.
Mary was old, it may be rude to say but she was. however when she saw you in the hospital for your first midwife appointment with both Steve and Eddie sat next to you she said nothing and just smiled. many people judged your relationship but to be honest you all didn't care. you all loved each other and that's all that mattered.
"but what if he does miss it, he promised he'd be here, he wanted to be here" the last thing you wanted was for Eddie to miss the birth of his daughter. it was special and you'd never forgive him for not being there- he would never forgive himself for not being there. "and he will be, i'm gonna call one more time and leave another message if they don't answer. after that i'm not gonna call again, i gotta look after you honey"
Steve walked to the phone which was in the living room and after a few beats of silence you were met with Steve leaving yet another voice mail. your heart sunk. you couldn't understand why they wouldn't answer the phone. Wayne had two people who sat by the phone all day talking to customers about their cars or if they needed help with their cars but they never answered.
"i'm sorry. they didn't answer but i'm sure they're just really busy, Eddie will be here" Steve said as he came back into the kitchen, a sympathetic look on his face. "but what if he isn't? he wanted to-" you were cut off by another strong contraction, this one hurting so much more than the others you had been experiencing all day. Steve rushed to your side, holding your hand tightly as you groaned in pain.
you could feel your eyes filling with tears as the painful contraction got a bit more intense. after a minute it finally stopped but this contraction was a lot closer than the others. it meant your labour was moving along quickly and you would be pushing soon. you wrapped your arms around Steve's waist hugged him tightly.
"what if he doesn't make it" you whispered to Steve, tears threatening to spill over any second with the crazy amount of hormones running through your body. Steve wrapped his arms around you and hugged you back "he will honey i promise, if not i'll give him an earful don't you worry" he joked as he kissed your head, trying to make the situation better. but it didn't work. it just made you anxious. you just hoped by some miracle that Eddie would make it in time.
-
"hey guys" Eddie said as he walked into the office. he had finally gotten a break after working so hard. he sat down in front of Adam, a 20 year old who had been working with Troy to take phone calls for the garage. it was a system that meant Eddie, Wayne and the rest of the mechanics didn't have to leave their work to answer the phone and so far it had worked.
"it's been so busy today, crazy amount of people just brining their cars in for random shit that don't even need fixing" Eddie said rubbing a hand through his hair. he had a good few hours left before he could leave and come home to you and Steve and to be honest he was counting down the hours.
"did that Jerry guy bring his car in? i swear he comes in every week for the same thing" Troy said as he sat on his desk which was right next to Adams. "yeah he did. i mean he's old, probably doesn't remember bringing it in. i just pretend to fix something and he's on his way within ten minutes. never charged him though. can't make him pay for something that isn't actually real"
Adam and Troy were the only guys who were younger than Eddie in the garage, Troy being 24, meant that he could speak to them about the same sort of thing, he couldn't really speak to the older guys in the garage because he never understood what the spoke about. they spoke about stuff that happened years before he was born.
"anyway, anything happened with calls today? i heard the phone going crazy" Eddie said in a happy tone, he thought it was customers that were calling in for their cars which meant more money in his pocket for you guys and the baby. "don't be mad" Troy said scratching the back of his neck as he spoke. "we didn't actually answer any of them" Eddie rolled his eyes, a little bit of anger filing his body.
"c'mon guys that isn't cool. some people might be stuck of the side of the road and you've left them there" Adam nodded "we know, we just got a little bit bored but i'm sure it's nothing to worry about. i think they've left a few voicemails, the last call was ten minutes ago so we can listen to them now if you want?" Adam was always the mediator, he hated arguments and never wanted to get on anyone's bad side. it was obvious this was Troy's idea and not his.
Eddie only nodded, bracing himself for the many many voicemails from the different customers who were all probably angry that they didn't answer the phone. the first few were of customers only wanting to book in for a routine check of their cars but after those Eddie felt his stomach drop once he heard Steve's panicked voice.
"hey, uhh this is Steve. i really need to speak to Eddie about something so please call me back. it's urgent."
"hi it's Steve again, i know the shop must be busy for you guys to not answer the phone but this is really serious and i need Eddie to come home. please call me back"
"okay i don't know if this is a prank and you guys are not answering because you think it's funny but Eddie needs to come home. if you listen to these please get Eddie to leave the shop. thank you"
"i've called so many times i can't even count but Eddie needs to leave work now. his girlfriend is in labour and is probably going to give birth in a few hours and he can't miss it. she needs him here and so do i so please stop ignoring these calls and get him to come home"
Eddie stood up, ignoring the shocked looks on Adam and Troy's faces. he picked up the phone which was in front of Adam and dialled your home phone number. he heard it ring a few times before an out of breath Steve answered. "hello?" Eddie could hear you crying in the background as it seemed another contraction had hit you as he called.
"Steve-" "Eddie. you need to get home now, she's at 6cm and i can't speak for long, she's contracting but you need to get here fast. we need you, she is scared you're gonna miss it and i am to" Eddie could hear you call out for Steve and he felt his heart break, you sounded like you were in so much pain. "im coming sweetheart don't worry- just get here quick" and before Eddie could even say anything Steve had ended the call.
both boys looked at Eddie with guilt and sadness as they realised their little prank had gone way to far. "i am so sorry" Adam said as Eddie started making his way out of the office door. he turned around with the angriest expression on his face "this never happens again because look what's happened. i might miss the birth of my daughter because of you guys" he walked out, calling out to Wayne that he needed to leave and with that he got into his van and started making his way home.
-
"10cm finally" Mary said as she pulled her hand out of the warm water. your were sat on your knees facing Steve who was stroking your cheek comfortingly. you felt sad. this wasn't going how you wanted it to and now you weren't even happy that you were going to finally bring your own daughter into the world.
yes one of her dads was here and it should of been enough, but it wasn't. this moment was special, it might be something you never got to experience again and Eddie still wasn't here. it had been almost three hours since Steve spoke to him and your labour had gone pretty quick after that.
"i know it's not how you wanted it but i need you to start pushing" Mary said as she put on some new gloves and sat next to you beside the pool so she could watch you push your baby out. you took your shaky hands and grabbed Steve's holding onto the so tightly. "i want you to start pushing when you feel the next contraction y/n" after a few seconds of waiting you felt the now familiar pain of your contraction and started pushing.
"that's it, we'll done" you could hear Mary counting up to ten and you let yourself relax when she told you to stop. this pain was terrible. a lot worse than what you anticipated. "well done sweetheart. you're doing amazing" Steve kissed your cheek as the grip on his hands loosened slightly.
"and again y/n push with your contractions" you pushed again with another contraction, at this point they were about a minute apart. "keep pushing, keep pushing, well done" you could faintly hear Mary say as you focused on pushing your baby out.
after you finished pushing for another ten minutes you heard the front door slam closed and heavy boots running through the house. "i'm here" you could hear Eddie say and you felt all the sadness fade away. you had both your boys here now and you felt relieved. Eddie rushed to you, hands finding your face as he kissed you quickly, tucking a loose piece of hair behind your ear.
"i'm so sorry. the guys were being assholes and didn't answer the phone. i'm sorry baby" he kissed you again before giving a quick kiss to Steve. "you almost missed it" you pulled one of your hands away from Steve's and laced your fingers with Eddie's. he nodded "i know, but look, Steve took great care of you and i haven't missed her being born. i've probably broken a few laws to get here but it's okay"
you wanted to laugh but you couldn't. another contraction made you cry out in pain "push y/n. you're doing amazing. i think you'll have her in the next few pushes" Eddie's eyes widened as you pushed, he was defiantly not ready for this. both Steve and Eddie hated seeing anyone in pain, but seeing you in pain made them feel awful. "a few more honey then she'll be here and all the pain will go away" Steve tried his best to console you as you cried.
if they could take the pain and give it to themselves they would but now there was nothing you could do. i mean, they were receiving some pretty hard hand holding, both of them wincing silently as you squeezed their hands harder with each push. "keep pushing sweetheart you're doing amazing" Eddie held your hand tighter and used his free hand to stroke your cheek.
"i can feel the head, keep pushing. well done" Eddie looked at Mary who was next the pool with her gloved hand in the water. "one last big push y/n and you'll have your baby" both Eddie and Steve looked at each other, their hearts beating fast, this was it. they were about to become dads.
you cried in pain one last time, face scrunched up as you pushed then it all went away. "5:48pm" you felt your body relax into the water as your pain finally stopped. you reached down and pulled your baby from the now murky water to your chest. you felt kisses all over your face as tears of happiness and relief poured down your cheeks.
you could hear the many praises Eddie and Steve were saying to you as you hugged your baby close. after a few seconds she started crying letting the whole world know that she'd finally arrived. "wow you've got a set of lungs on you haven't you" you heard Eddie say making you laugh through your tears. "look at her, she's beautiful" you said looking down at your daughter.
-
you were sat in your bed, sleep almost consuming you as you watched Eddie holding Penny with Steve stood right beside him, a small sleepy smile on your face. both boys were infatuated with her. she was wrapped in a baby pink blanket knitted by your mother with a matching pink hat on top of her head of thick brown curls.
Steve's hand moved to stroke her cheek making her grimace slightly. "she's perfect, i can't take my eyes off her" Steve whispered not wanting to wake up Penny. both boys couldn't believe that you were all parents now and neither could everyone back in Hawkins. Steve had phoned everyone to let them know Penny was finally here and they all couldn't believe it. they had all waited like you guys and it was exciting to finally get the call that she was here.
Steve had even phoned his parents and was surprised to get an answer. they were never in Hawkins and he expected the phone to just ring into the empty house but his mum answered and was actually happy for you all. she had even cried a little bit hearing that she was now a grandma which shocked him even more.
"her nose is so cute. exactly like her mama's" Eddie lent down to place a small kiss on her nose which looked identical to yours. she was practically your twin. "can you believe she's here. we've waited for so long and now shes in your arms sleeping"
"no. its crazy. we are actually parents now and we have this tiny human to look after" Eddie's eyes looking over her face trying to take in his daughters beautiful features. "i was so close to missing it. i'm sorry i wasn't here to help you guys" Eddie looked up from your daughter to look at you and Steve, eyes darting between the two of you.
“it’s okay Ed’s. you got here just in time” you reassured him, the smile never leaving your face. Penny woke up out of her sleep, face scrunching up as she cried making Eddie quickly make his way over to you. you were all still trying to figure out her cries but he assumed she was hungry and he was right.
she latched on to breast feed pretty quickly and her cries died down. Steve and Eddie were on either side of you watching your little girl with pure adoration in their eyes. the three of you were silent just watching the small baby in your arms. she was just utterly perfect. “thank you for making us dads y/n. we definitely couldn’t do it without you” Steve said kissing your cheek and Eddie hummed in agreement, kissing you before kissing Steve. you now had your own little family and you couldn’t be happier.

dad!steve harrington x pregnant!reader, mentions of pain and pregnancy symptoms, 1.3k
Being pregnant was proving to be one of the hardest things in your life. You’d had enough dizziness and nausea in your first trimester to last you a lifetime, enough achiness and swollen feet in your second than anyone should ever have, and now in your third, you’d discovered something brand new to put on your list of pregnancy woes.
False labor pains, otherwise known as Braxton-Hicks contractions (as Steve had very quickly informed you after a trip to the library that resulted in a pile of what to expect when you’re expecting-esque books residing next to his side of the bed). Paired with an extremely active baby girl with a horse strength kick who loved to make it known 24/7, this home stretch was your toughest one yet.
The telltale open and shut of the front door signaled Steve’s arrival, even before his voice. “Honey, I’m home!!!” He sang.
You made a vague noise of acknowledgement from your sprawled out position on the couch, waving your hand over your head haphazardly. You’d been stuck in the same spot for almost the whole day, seeing as every time you tried to get up, either another well placed kick or a false contraction dragged you right back down.
“How’re my girls doing?”
“Your daughter’s doing her daily karate routine against my organs, but other than that we’re great.”
“Oh so she’s gonna do karate now? I thought she was gonna be a tap dancer? Or a soccer player?” Steve teased gently, tossing his keys into the bowl on the table near the front door. He kicked his shoes off too, hanging his jacket on the hook next to yours before crossing the room to rub your shoulders with a kiss pressed to the top of your head.
“She can be all of them when she grows up, but I wish she’d stop it right now.”
He let out a snort of laughter, rounding the couch and kneeling in front of you. One hand came to rub your belly gently, the other coming to land on your knee. “Anything I can do for you?”
“Tell her to cut it out.” Another laugh from him. “How was work?”
“Pretty uneventful. Robin says hi though, wanted me to ask if you two were still on for lunch on Tuesday?”
“Oh my god, I totally forgot to call her back!” You gasped, hands scrabbling for purchase on the couch cushions as if you wanted to push yourself up.
“Hey, hey, slow your roll, sweetheart. Take it easy, I’ll give her a call later.” Steve eased you back down, shooting you a pointed look when you pouted up at him. “I promise, ‘mkay?”
“‘Mkay.” You sighed, slumping back into your previous position. Then, barely even taking a beat, you shot up straight again, this time moving to grab Steve’s shoulders as leverage.
His brows furrowed in instant concern. “What? What’s happening now? Are you okay?”
“Gotta pee.”
“Jesus, you really scared me for a second there,” He breathed, pressing a hand against his chest but going to help you up anyways.
The second you made it to your feet, you were hit with another Braxton-Hicks, this one so big that you would’ve keeled over at the strength of it if not for Steve still holding on to you. You squeezed your eyes shut, sinking back down on the couch yet again with a choked whimper. For something called false labor, the pain sure was really goddamn real. “Whoa, okay. Relax, I’ve got you. You’re alright, sweetheart, you’re doing great. Just relax.”
“Tell me to relax one more time and I’m gonna wring your neck, Harrington.” You said through gritted teeth, fisting his shirt in your hand as if it would help you ride out the pain.
Steve ignored your threat, because he knew you didn’t actually mean it. You’d been growing a whole tiny human inside you for the past eight months, the least he could do was stomach a few gripes here and there. “Squeeze my hands. Just squeeze my hands, it’ll help.”
You gladly took him up on the offer, borderline crushing his hands with a strength neither you nor him knew you had, but he’d never complain about it. A popped knuckle and temporary loss of blood flow was nothing compared to what you’d been having to endure nonstop.
Tears welled up in your eyes at the worsening spasm in your back and abdomen, like someone had taken your insides and was twisting them around in their grip.
“Just breathe. In through the nose, out through the mouth.” Steve soothed, mimicking the deep breaths he wanted you to take. “Like that, that’s it. There you go. Just like that, baby.”
“This is the cramp from hell, Steve, deep breathing isn’t helping anything.”
“Okay, alright, let’s try something else then. Didn’t the doctor say moving around would help lessen the pain?” He suggested, trying his best to rack his brain despite the numbness creeping through his hands. “Or maybe drink some water? I can get you a glass of—”
“Can you just shut up for a minute?” The sharpness in your words shocked you, and should’ve shocked Steve too, but he didn’t seem phased at all, instead just nodding, gazing up at you with wide honey eyes currently filled with concern.
Guilt pooled in you as soon as the contraction finally subsided, and somehow, the guilt felt worse. Steve had been nothing less than the perfect partner this entire pregnancy, and here you were snapping at him for being supportive. Again.
You inhaled a shaky breath, bringing his hands up and pressing a kiss to each of his palms. “I’m sorry. I’m so sorry, Stevie, I don’t mean to be mean to you, I just—”
“I’m gonna stop you right there, okay? You can do and say anything you want to me, sweetheart, and you never have to apologize. You’re carrying our kid, you’ve got every right to be as mean as you want.” He assured you, cupping your face. His thumbs stroked across your cheeks featherlight despite the firmness in his grip. “I’m a big boy, I can take it. Never be sorry. You don’t have to be.”
“I love you,” You sighed miserably, melting against him like a popsicle on a hot summer day.
“I love you most, sweetheart.” He replied softly, leaning down to press his lips against your belly before adding something. “And I love you most too, baby girl, even though you’re giving your mom a tough time right now.”
“I swear, she’s bullying me more and more everyday.”
He chuckled softly, smoothing a hand down your back in light circles. “I’m sure that’s just her way of saying she’s excited to meet us.”
“I know. I’m so excited to meet her and I know she’s already everything we’ve ever dreamed of, but I’d kill to be able to sleep on my stomach again.”
“One more month, baby. Just one more month and then you can sleep on your stomach all you want.” He murmured, breath ghosting across your skin with each word.
“One more month.” You echoed, curling your hand around the back of his neck. One more month of discomfort for a lifetime of anything and everything with your baby girl. That, you were excited for. Slightly terrified, but definitely more excited. “I’m nervous. Are you?”
“Oh yeah. Nearly-shitting-my-pants nervous. All the time. I don’t think that feeling is ever gonna go away, honestly.” He snorted, nodding sharply. He pressed one more kiss to your belly. “But it’s worth it. As long as I have my two girls, anything is worth it.”
“I hate how perfect you’re being right now.”
“Just right now? I think you mean always.”
You pressed your lips together suddenly, scrunching your nose at him. “Stevie, you’re about to hate me.”
“I could never, but good try.”
“I still need to pee.”
Steve barked out a laugh, heaving himself to his feet and gearing up to help you in your endless attempts at standing up. “C’mon, preggers, let’s get you to the bathroom before karate kid in there decides to try out for a new belt.”

steddie x afab!reader with a newborn headcanons
summary: steve and eddie’s baby girl is born and they won’t let her out of their sight
warnings: mentions of pregnancy and labor/birth, their daughter is named sophia (sophie) because that’s what me and my gf want to name our future daughter if we have one so i’m sorry if that’s your name, mentions of smut
part one | part three
wanna support me? buy me a ko-fi
Tumblr media
you live in hawkins in the 80s, so poly relationships are pretty uncommon and frowned upon. to make things easier usually only one of them goes to your appointments with you
before you found out the baby’s gender, everyone started making bets (it started by steve saying he knew it was a girl because of something he read in a parenting book about the way you were carrying)
(yes, steve buys parenting books. although a lot of the time he disagrees with what the books say to do so,, what’s the point of buying them?)
it was eddie’s turn to go to your appointment with you and he got so excited when he found out you were having a girl !!!
“i’m gonna be a girl dad!”
he’s so happy about it that you let him tell steve, and that conversation is actually the cutest thing ever, seeing them both smiling so widely and eddie bouncing up and down as he shares the news :((
surprisingly, labor was fairly easy for you and luckily there were no complications
(cue your two overprotective boyfriends panicking, while you have to be the calm one even though you’re the one in labor)
ten hours later and your little girl was born <33
it was obvious that she was eddie’s biologically because she was born with a full head of dark curls and his features mixed with yours, but steve didn’t care
she was still just as much his daughter as yours and eddie’s
everyone comes to the hospital to meet baby sophia munson <333
only dustin actually gets to hold her since mike and lucas and robin are all freaked out at the idea of holding a baby
steve already has pretty bad insomnia, so he’s always awake when sophie wakes up crying
she loves eddie playing guitar and singing for her, and you joke that she remembers it from during your pregnancy
eddie brings home this baby onesie
that starts his obsession with finding metal clothes for her. he gets her a leather jacket to match with him, cute little clothes with skull patterns, and even makes her a mini hellfire shirt
waking up in the morning surprised that you woke up naturally and not from sophie crying, and walking into her room to see steve talking to her and she’s giggling :(((
if you get postpartum body dysmorphia, they will not stop complementing you. “obviously your body looks different, you gave birth to a living, breathing human” and “you’re so strong and beautiful and amazing” and “we’re so lucky to have you, love” and “you’re so gorgeous”
calling sophie their princess and you their queen/king
she adores when eddie tells her stories. even if she doesn’t understand what he’s saying, he’s dramatic and makes funny voices and big gestures that make her smile so wide
the “mom steve” jokes triple now that he actually has a kid
steve starts to learn now to do different types of braids and long hair hairdos. he practices on you (if you have long enough hair) and eddie
“i have to be ready for when she’s older! who else will do it? clearly i’m the only one who should be in charge of teaching her proper hair care”
for the first two months after giving birth you refrain from having sex at doctor’s recommendation (you still enjoy watching them tho)
having your first date night since giving birth and leaving sophie with max (who wont admit that she likes the responsibility) and having the house to yourselves
they eat you out until your thighs shake from overstimulation, then take turns fucking you

I saw you were taking smut requests could I request a Steve one where single dad Steve falls for the nanny? X
After Dark
Pairing: Steve Harrington X Fem!Reader
Warning: oral(fem receiving), mentions of penetrative sex, late night confessions, masturbation
Tumblr media
An: I normally write porn without plot, but this idea was so cute, I couldn’t help myself<3
Tumblr media
You were working your ass off, trying desperately to chip at your ever increasing student loans. From customer service to dog walking to tutoring, you were doing every job you could get your hands on. Things needed to change, you haven’t had a break in ages, your stress levels are high, yet you had nothing to show for it. That’s when you saw the ad…
You were sat in an artsy cafe, sipping tea, and reading the paper when you saw it. An ad for a live in nanny, essentials fully taken care of, extraordinary pay, and a hot piece of ass as your employer. The second you got home, you called the number from the ad.
“Hello, Harrington residence, how can I help you?”, he answered,
“Hi, I was looking to apply for the live in nanny position, is it still vacant?”,
“It sure is, would you mind meeting up for dinner tomorrow night, consider it your interview, and if I deem you to be trustworthy, I’ll take you back to my place to meet my daughter?”, he explained, “Does that sound good to you?”
“Sounds perfect, pick a place and I’ll meet you there Mr. Harrington”.
Tumblr media
You timidly approach the mildly bland diner. A small bell rings above you as you enter. You glance around the diner when you spot him, Mr. Harrington. You rush towards his table, and delicately sit across from him in the booth.
“You must be Y/N?”, he reached his hand out,
“Sure am”, you confirm, shaking his hand, “It’s a pleasure to meet you”,
He giggles, “The pleasures all mine… So, about the position…”
The interview continued for a little while before in Fades into casual conversation. Steve was incredibly easy to talk to. You wanted to confess your sins to him, tell him your deepest darkest secrets.
You both made your way outside, the chill air sending a shiver through your body. Steve takes notice, and pulls of his coat placing onto your shoulders.
“Oh thank you”,
“Of course, wouldn’t want you getting a cold”, you can’t help but stare up at him in awe, “Would you be comfortable going back to my place, and meet Chloe, my daughter?”,
“Oh?”, you gasp, “I would love to, good to know I did good for you”, we both chuckle, but I see something darken in his eyes,
“You uh… You sure did”.
Tumblr media
When he opened the door to his large house, you could here the little patter of foot steps running towards you.
“Daddy!”, Chloe can running down the hall, Steve swoops her into his arms,
“Hey pumpkin, how’re we feeling?”,
“Good, Robin gave me Coke”,
A girl, you assume to be Robin, enters.
“I didn’t realize it would turn her into a Looney Tune when I did it, I’m so sorry”,
“I can’t believe you giving drugs to my daughter”, Steve jokes,
“Not that kind of Coke, dingus!”, Robin takes one good look at you, “Sorry for interrupting you time, I’ll leave, have fun Steve”, as Robins leaving she grabs Steve, “She’s a keeper Harrington, she’s smoking”
When Robin leaves, he signs, “I’m sorry she thought this was a date”,
You notice his sweet little girl staring at you, “Hi there”, you wave at her,
“Hi”, she whispers back,
“Chloe, this is Y/N, they’re gonna keep an eye on you while daddy’s at work, okay?”, Steve explains, Chloe nods her head in understanding,
“Would you like me to show you where your gonna stay?”,
“I’d love that”.
Tumblr media
After moving in with the Harringtons, you keep finding yourself ‘playing pretending’. You can’t help but imagine being with Steve, taking care of you daughter Chloe, and living happily ever after. You try to remind yourself that it’s your job, you live in his house, take care of his kid, but you are not one of them. No matter how bad you wanted to be.
Sometimes at night, you can’t help but think what Steve mouth would feel like, kissing along your curves, sucking on your clit, bruising your throat.
Most days he’d come home late. A couple hours after you put Chloe to sleep. You watch him wipe the sleep from his eyes, sitting next to you on the couch, having small talk, and then heading to bed. It was a ritual the two of you had.
Your body was jolted awake by the sound of the door opening.
“Shit. Did I wake you?”, Steve cringed,
“No your fine, I was waiting for you to get home”,
Steve takes a seat on the sofa next to you, “How was Chloe?”,
“She was great, we went to the park at about five, so putting her to bed was ALOT easier than usual”,
Steve smiles, “And um… How was your day?”,
“It was good, I’m a live in nanny for this guy and his kid, it’s pretty great”,
“Oh yeah”,
“Yeah. There is one problem with it though”,
“What’s that?”,
“The guy is… just wow, he so funny, and kind, and he’s so cute”, you gulp, “and it’s really hard working for him when all I can think about is being his”,
“Oh”, Steve exhales a breathe he didn’t realize he was holding in, “Yeah I totally get that… I have a daughter, right? And I needed some help taking care of her, and I didn’t expect the most perfect being alive to apply. Anyways, she’s a great fit, I mean, does her job perfectly, Chloe loves her, but I want her to be more. Anyways, That’s guy, he’s be an idiot not to want you. All I’m saying is if you two happened to be on some type of couch together, you should maybe try to kiss him. I think he’d like it.”
I giggle at his antic, leaning in to kiss his pillowy lips. The kiss is soft, sloppy, lazy, loving, and mind melting. He leans into you even more placing a hand onto your hip. He stops kissing your face to kiss down your cheek and chin, all the way to your neck.
“God your mouth is better than I imagined”, you let slip,
“You’ve imagined this? What else have you imagined?”,
You smirk, “Are you sure you want to know?”,
“Definitely”.
Steve maneuvers you on your back, spreading your legs to make room for him. He leans back in to continue kissing your soft neck.
“Sometimes when I touch myself”, the phrase already earning you a moan from Steve, “I think about what it would feel like to have your hands gripping my waist while you pound into me. I imagine you…” you feel Steve slowly start grinding into you, “I um-“, you pause to moan, “I imagine that you tease my clit with your tongue while yo- you prep me with your fingers… God Steve”,
“That’s it moan for me baby, and I’ll give you what you want”, he mummers into your neck as he starts to pull down your pants.
He pulls on your panties, using them to tease you before slowly pulling them off. He run his fingers through your dripping cunt, groaning at how wet you are. He leans face first into your heat, slowly inserting one finger. He starts by kitten licking your clit before sucking it between his lips. Your soft moans and pleas pour from your mouth as he already has you close. You feel like your seeing stars when he inserts a second finger. Your walls twitch around his fingers signaling your close.
“C’mon sweetie, come all over my fingers”, Steve moans against your clit sending you straight into your first orgasm of the night.
“That was- fuck - that was amazing”, you fumble out,
“If you, uh if you wanted to head to my room, I could give you my cock”,

Harrington’s got her | What’s in a name?
Summary: Reader and Eddie had been high school sweethearts and planned on being together forever. Instead, life had other plans and flipped reader’s world upside down. Now reader finds herself becoming a single mother and possibly falling in love with her childhood best friend, Steve Harrington.
Word count: 1.3k
Warning: Angst. Teen pregnancy. Reader is 19 years old. Vecna and Eddie are both dead. Everything was solved at the end of volume two.
Request: Nope. I had an idea for this and just wanted to write it.
Pairings: Past Eddie Munson x Reader, Steve Harrington x Reader
Writers Note: Hi! Here’s part 5! Sorry this took so long to post, I’ve been super busy as I’ve started back at university. I also had writer’s block which partially postponed the writing process. Anyways, I hope you all enjoy💗
Part 4
Tumblr media
You had awoken to the sun shining through your curtains. You felt the warmth of Steve radiating off his body as you laid your head on his chest. You could hear the rhythm of his heartbeat and the sound of his soft snores. You took a deep breath and captured his scent. You couldn’t help but wonder if this could be something you got used to. You quickly pushed that thought to the back of your mind as you felt Steve stir underneath you.
“Good Morning,” He smiled down at you, “Sleep well?” he chuckled as he felt you untangle your legs from his and pull away.
“Honestly, that is the best I’ve slept in months but that could be because I got to use you like a body pillow,” you hesitated waiting for his reaction, “thank you by the way.” You bit your lip.
He smiled, “You can use me any way you need, I’m here to be used at your disposal.” he half-joked. He didn’t want to hide his feelings any longer, and he thought he made that very clear last night when he all but confessed his love for you.
“Can we talk about last night because,” You were cut off by a knock at the door, “Y/N, Sweetie, Your dad and I got an earlier flight home.” Your mom said opening the door and walking into the bedroom, “Oh hi Steve, it’s nice to see you around here.” She gave him a warm smile..
“Hi Mrs. Y/L/N, I was actually just on my way out,” He quickly shoved his jacket and shoes on and looked towards you, “Can we finish this later?” he asked.
“Yeah, sure, why not.” Once he left your room, you fell back into your pillows and sighed annoyed. Why did your parents have to come home early and why did they have to interrupt your conversation right then?
Tumblr media
Another month had passed, and you watched the leaves slowly began to change from beautiful greens to vibrant reds, oranges, and yellows as Summer turned to fall. You had been nervous knowing that you only had a little over a month left in your pregnancy and it was becoming abundantly obvious by how you would go on spiels about saving money, taking any extra shifts at work while babysitting on the side, and how much you had begun nesting. You would enlist your friends to help you clean your room and arrange it multiple times until you felt like it would be perfect enough to bring your son home to. You knew that he wouldn’t care or even understand that you were young and it would be trial and error with raising him. He wouldn’t understand that his father wouldn’t be there to help you, but you knew you would be the best mom you could be to him and that you weren’t alone because you knew your friends, who became like your family, would always be there to support you.
You and Steve hadn’t even talked about that night despite hanging out multiple times since then. The further you got into your pregnancy the more time Steve seemed to spend with you, but over the past two and a half weeks Steve had been a little more distant and you didn’t know why. However, things had seemed to go back to normal. Steve had taken you to one of your appointments and now he was driving the two of you back to your house.
“Andrew?” Steve threw out there.
“Like McCarthy? Ew no.” You and Steve had spent the better part of the drive discussing names for your son. You had browsed baby name books multiple times and never found one that you were particularly in love with. You wanted a name that meant something to you and would give your son a deeper connection to Eddie than just sharing blood and his last name.
“Alright,” Steve sighed, “What about Thomas?” He asked as he drove onto your street.
“Are you just naming famous actors from movies?” You looked over at him raising an eyebrow and questioning him.
“Maybe,” he looked over with a smirk on his face.
“You watched Top Gun once and suddenly you want my son to be named after Tom Cruise.”
“Listen, he was also great in Risky Business,” he said trying to defend himself.
“Yeah, ok Steve,” you said through a laugh, “Do you wanna come inside? I own a copy of Risky Business on VHS.” you teased. “We could pop some popcorn, maybe order a pizza and pretend we’re teenagers again for a bit? You know before all the monster hunting and baby stuff happened.”
“Yeah, that sounds really nice.” Steve got out of the car and followed you inside.
Tumblr media
“Surprise!” You heard them yell as you walked through your front door with Steve in tow.
“Holy Shit!” you screamed surprised. You heard Steve chuckle behind you, “Oh my god, is this why you’ve been so distant the past two weeks?’ You asked turning to the tall brunette man.
“Yeah sorry about that.” He gave you a smile and scratched the back of his neck nervously.
“Well, thank you.” you gave him a soft smile that made him blush.
Tumblr media
You sat on the floral couch in your living room, watching various people having various different conversations. You were surrounded by gifts for your son and patiently waited to open them.
“Hey Kiddo,” you turned to your side to see Wayne, “I hope it’s ok that I got here late. I had a shift at the factory and needed to get in a quick shower.” You leaped up and brought him into a tight hug.
“Oh Wayne, it’s so great to see you.” He chuckled and hugged you back.
“It’s nice to see you too,” he pulled away, “I can’t stay long, but I wanted to give you my gift before I had to leave.”
“Oh ok,” you tried to keep your smile, but you were upset that he was already leaving so soon. Wayne pulled out a stack of letters and a photograph book, “these belonged to my mom- Eddie’s grandmother,” he hesitated, “you know she was the closest thing to a mother that he had and I think she would’ve wanted you to have them.”
You grabbed the stack of letters and photograph book from him, “She really loved Eddie and would’ve loved to have met your son.” He finished. You both had tears in your eyes, “Thank you, Wayne. This means so much to me and I’m sure it’d mean a lot to Eddie too.” You gave him another hug.
“Anytime kiddo,” he hugged you back and softly ruffled your hair when he pulled away, “I think Eddie would also want me to tell you it’s ok to give that Harrington kid a chance.”
“I- what? How?” You blushed.
“Everyone can see how you guys look at each other,” he smiled, “plus he’s looking at you right now.” He chuckled.
You looked back and caught Steve looking at you as if you had hung the stars. His cheeks started to heat up as he looked back at Dustin and Robin to finish their conversation.
Tumblr media
Later that night you found yourself wrapped up on the couch with a cup of warm tea and looking through the photograph book from Wayne. You flipped through the pages that were covered in pictures of Eddie and his family, mostly of him, his grandmother and uncle Wayne, and notes written on the side by his grandmother.
You looked up at Steve, who was sitting on the opposite end watching your VHS tape of Risky Business, “I know what I want to name him.” You said confidently.
“Hm,” Steve looked at you curiously with a raised eyebrow.
“Nathaniel,” a smile graced your face. “It was Eddie’s grandmother’s maiden name. She was the closest thing he had to a mother and she loved him so much.”
“Nathaniel,” Steve echoed, “I like it and I think Eddie would love it.” He smiled at you.

The perfect piece!
Tumblr media
Steve x single mom!reader
Dad!Steve masterlist!!
Tw for pet names!
Also credit to @k-k0129 who helped me out with the idea and jewelry for this fic!
Tumblr media
After Steve asked you out he was desperate to get his hands on a piece of jewelry he felt was worthy enough for you.
Today however, while passing through the mall he saw it, the most perfect necklace for you. It was a pretty necklace. On a delicate gold chain was a Opal pendant with pretty gold detailing on the outside of it. He thought it was absolutely perfect for you, with opals being Alice’s birthstone and everything he thought it would be best for only you. So he bought it…and maybe he bought a tiny baby bracelet for Alice to. It was a little gold chain once again, it had a tiny metal heart with the letter ‘A’ stamped into it, and for the second time today Steve thought it was perfect.
So he bought the two pieces of jewelry and than bought two little gift bags as well as the crinkly tissue paper!
The tissue paper got left in his car, so did the gifts stuffed under his front seat. When he got home the first thing he did was tell you he wanted to go to a fancy restaurant.
“Why?” You ask looking at him from the floor where you’d been sitting with Alice, “what’s today?” You ask getting up to look at a calendar.
“I just thought it would be nice” he tells you as he scoops Alice up, peppering kisses all over her chubby little cheeks as she giggles grabbing at Steve’s face and hair before he settles her on his hip, “plus you’re like already dressed up all pretty!”
“Steve” you say, “that’s my makeup from work”
“And it’ll be a waste if we don’t go to a restaurant babe come on!” You let out a sigh before giving in and going to get dressed.
When you go to buckle Alice into the carseat in Steve’s car you notice the glittery pink paper on his back floorboard.
“Steve?” Yoh ask grabbing the paper in your hand and you swear you’d never seen his head whip around so fast before, “what’s this from?” He notices the way your eyebrows raise slightly as you urge him to answer your question.
“Robins birthday party” he blurts out, you two had boughten tissue paper for her birthday he’s just hoping you don’t remember it was yellow not pink, “remember?” You nod setting it down in the seat before going to get in.
When you two got to the restaurant Steve was practically running to your side of the car to open the door for you after he got Alice out the car.
He gets the three of you seated in the restaurant, sitting Alice in her little high chair beside the table as she babbles to the two of you.
“I’ve uhm got to go to the bathroom” Steve excuses himself from the table before he’s practically sprinting to his car pulling the two little gift bags from his car and holding them behind his back.
When he comes back into the restaurant he sets them in front of you and Alice who simply taps against the table, she’d never opened a gift before!
Steve watches as you open to necklace box, eyes widening when you catch a glimpse of the pretty jewelry.
“Stevie ‘s too much” you tell him with a few tears in your eyes, he could be an angel at times.
“Baby, it’s perfect for you. Come here.” He takes the necklace from the box before quickly settling it around your neck.
“Your turn sweetheart” Steve tells Alice as she blinks up at him with her wide eyes.
He gently grabs her hand guiding her to pull the paper before he sets it in your bag, he makes a noise of shock when she pulls out the box shaking it about.
“What is it?” He asks her and she hands him the box.
You watch as Steve opens the box showing her the tiny baby bracelet that had been stamped with an ‘A’.
You resist the urge to coo at the way he softly puts it on her little arm placing his finger between her arm and the bracelet before he even begins to tighten it so he’s certain it can’t pinch her.
And Steve although he’d be adamant about denying it was also perfect for the two of you.

kisses before dinner —the harrington family gets ready for a dinner party. mom!reader, 3k
"...and I told mommy she needed my help but your mom doesn't like listening to me anymore," Steve says, eyebrows pulled together, "because of that one time I told her the side of the refrigerator was supposed to feel warm and it broke. But I'm usually right."
Wren blinks at him dopily where she lies in the dip of his thighs. Steve has his knees up, back flat on the couch and head propped by a pink fluffy heart pillow from Bethie's bed to speak to her face to face.
"I promise you'll understand when you're older. I'm a genius." He strokes her little forehead. Steve's youngest daughter is too baby to look like anybody, but he's starting to think she looks like him anyway. "And now mom has to run the washing machine again when we were already super duper busy."
"Shut up!" you yell from the kitchen.
Bethie giggles from the same place, seemingly, raising her voice to join in, "Yeah, daddy! Shut up!"
"That's so not nice." Steve shakes his head at Wren in dramatic disbelief. She smiles at him. "Isn't that mean? Don't you think that's sick?"
"You're being a know-it-all again!" you continue. "And we'd be less busy if you were helping me!"
"I'm sick of helping," Steve says conversationally. "I help all day long."
Wren gurgles and lifts one of her hands toward him. Steve holds it in his, rubbing at her palm with a gentle thumb. She totally gets what he's saying, agrees with him no doubt, breathing out heavily as Steve gives her hand a wave up and down.
"Steve," you say, dropping the angry act to pull him in, "please, sweetheart, I really do need your help."
"How am I supposed to say no to that?" Steve whispers. "Does she guilt trip you that way?"
Wren doesn't giggle, but the breathy, happy sound she makes as he crunches forward to kiss her forehead is close enough to make Steve laugh himself. He moves her carefully into the curve of his arm and stands, wishing he could stretch, exhausted by another long week but undeniably happy. "Let's go see what they want," he murmurs to Wren.
You and Bethie are in the kitchen by the stove. She's wearing oven mitts too big for her, and you're crouched behind her offering steady instructions. "Don't touch the sides, my love. Only the baking tray. If it feels warm and you're not happy, tell me, and I'll take it straight away." You wear your own oven gloves.
"I can do it," Beth insists, squaring her features.
Beth takes the baking tray and its cookies into her hands, walking with short steps to the counter, where she slides the tray up high. You lean over her to make sure it's settled before closing the oven and dashing a kiss into her cheek. "Well done, gorgeous girl," you say, scratching lightly at her shoulder as she preens under the praise. "One day you'll be making cookies all by yourself."
"But not for a while?" she asks, startled.
You kiss her again. "Not for a long, long time."
"Did you need my help or my approval?" Steve asks, his hand making a small thump with each pat he taps into Wren's back. "A taste tester, right?"
"I need you to find your other daughters. I have no idea where they are," you say with a rueful smile.
"Okay." Steve has carried babies. He's carried them for years, tiny ones and ones too big to need it, carried nonetheless. But something about Wren in all her newness makes him nervous. He hates carrying her up and down the stairs, too aware of the times he's missed a step or tripped up. "Can you take her?"
"Yes!" Bethie says, running to her unofficial chair at the dining table and holding out her mitted arms as she sits.
You nod at him and take the seat next to her. Steve hands Wren over into her sister's waiting hold, more than confident you're still there to take over if things get overwhelming. Wren looks comically large in Bethie's lap.
"I have her, dad." Beth leans down to touch her nose to Wren's. "Hi, Wren. Hello, hello," she says softly.
Steve gives your cheek a swift but loving stroke and leaves in search of the other kids. He can hear Dove in her room talking to herself in make believe, but Avery, the oldest, isn't with her, nor is she in her bedroom. Steve knocks on the bathroom door.
"Are you in there, Ave?"
No answer. Steve raises his voice. "I'm coming in."
He peeks inside slowly but she's not there. Eyebrows raised, Steve asks, "Avery, where are you?" Nothing. "Avery Harrington, don't make me worry! Please."
He lets his head drift to one side, listening for an answer. Avery rarely gets told off and she hates it; she'd jump to tell him where she was if she were up here.
Or so he thinks. Just as he's taking the stairs again to look for her someplace he must have missed, he hears sniffling coming from the master bedroom.
Idiot, he thinks, relief taking tight hold. He doesn't like not knowing where the girls are. He should've checked your room to begin with.
"Ave?" he says, opening his bedroom door. "You in here?"
"I'm here, dad," she says, peering up from the space between the top of the bed and his nightstand, kneeling on the carpeted floor.
"What are you doing down there? We gotta get ready for Aunt Robin's party."
Her cheeks shine in the slice of light from the open door. Steve closes it behind him and flicks on the big light, rounding the end of the bed to help her up. He hooks his hands under her arms and pulls her into his chest, bed springs creaking as their joined weight lands.
"Why are you crying?" he asks, cuddling her to his front. "What's wrong? Why didn't you come and find me? You can't stay here crying all by yourself, that's not cool. How am I supposed to make it better if I don't know what's wrong?"
"Dove bit me."
Steve gasps. "Again?"
"On my hand, dad." She holds up her wrist. "It hurts."
He presses his cheek to the top of her head, taking her arm tenderly to analyse the bite. It's a nasty thing, not bleeding but cruel and stark. "I'm sorry," he says.
"You said I can't be mean–"
"No, you can't–"
"But it was really mean."
"I know," he murmurs, "but I just don't… we can't be mean to Dove when she bites because she doesn't know it's wrong, okay? She doesn't remember. She knows it's the wrong thing to do, but by the time I tell her she doesn't know what she did." What Steve means is that the first time Dove bit Avery, Avery reacted on impulse and slapped her sister in the stomach. There isn't a bridge yet to connect to Dove why she might have received such a thing (though Steve teaches all the girls that hitting is never okay no matter what), so Dove just thought she was being hit. It was a very tense half hour of tears.
Steve rubs Avery's back as she starts to cry in earnest. "I will tell her not to bite you, honey. I swear, I won't let her be mean to you. I'll tell her until she understands."
He's been trying to teach Dove not to bite, but saying 'no' doesn't seem to do anything. Positive incentives don't last, and taking her toys wouldn't make much sense, because again, she doesn't get it.
"You know," Steve says, wiping her cheeks tenderly, "I'll tell her again and again and again until she stops, and it'll work, because it worked with you."
"What?"
"You used to bite me sometimes, but you used to bite mom all the time."
Avery looks at him in horror. "I did?"
He puts her down onto her feet and takes her hand. He'd like to tell her this story while sitting down, but Robin's house beckons and time is running short. "Mom would come home from work and you'd be very happy to see her, but she would ask you what you did today and where we went and you'd bite her."
He peeks into Dove's room and finds her missing. Downstairs, you say, "No! No, no, babe!" and he assumes she's been found.
"Why would I do that?"
Steve holds her hand buoyed between them as he descends the stairs. "We decided it was because you missed her. When your Dove's age you don't know how to say that. You don't even know what that is. I'm a thousand years old and I don't even know what I'm feeling half the time. So mom stopped hugging you after work for a bit until you calmed down."
"But I don't go to work, dad. Why did Dove bite me?"
"What were you doing?"
"We were playing with Mr Scruffles and the care bears and she just bit me for no reason!"
Steve stops at the bottom of the stairs. "Were you being a bossy boots?"
Avery glares at him. "I just told her to stop taking Funshine bear."
"Well," Steve says, smiling at her in apology, "maybe, next time, you can come and tell me, and then I'll tell her to stop taking Funshine bear, and then when she wants to bite someone she bites me instead of you. That could work, yeah?" He would much prefer it.
Steve takes Avery to the kitchen, where you've transferred Wren into her bassinet while Bethie eats a cookie, her cheeks messy with chocolate, and Dove languishes in your arms, small hands touching your hair curiously.
"Dove, will you look at this?" he asks, showing her Avery's bite mark. "You see that, honey? That's what you did when you bit your sister. We don't bite."
You gasp. "No!" you say, stern but far from cruel. "We don't bite. We only bite when we want to eat something."
Dove frowns.
"When you bite," Steve says, trying to appeal to her smarts. It'll stick eventually. "You give Avery an owie. That's why we can't bite, okay?"
Dove can tell she's being chided even if she doesn't totally get why. "No," she says unhappily.
"Can you say sorry to Avery?" you ask, reassuring her with a gentle squeeze. "Say, I'm sorry, Avery."
"Sorry, Ave'y," she mumbles.
Avery can't glare for long. She doesn't hold a grudge, not like her dad. "It's okay. You didn't mean to."
You beam at Avery like she's hung the moon. "You're so nice, my big girl. Can I have a look at your wrist? Did that hurt?"
Her mother's concern draws fresh tears. You swap children, and Dove quickly forgets what happened as Avery cries in little sniffles on the countertop. Steve brims with a familiar brand of pride as you comfort her, kissing and offering treats to help her feel better. I picked the right one might be applicable, only Steve didn't choose you so much as he happened upon you one day like a miracle, and then begged to keep you. Luckily for him, you've always been very agreeable on that front.
(As in, you love him more than can be said in any one language.)
"What are you upto?" Steve asks Bethie.
She shows him her food-covered hands. He nods like this is awesome, but in reality chocolate stains her t-shirt and she's going to have to change before they leave. Dove rams herself against his leg and looks up with her eyes widened.
"What?" he asks.
"Um…"
"What do you want?" he asks, softer. She starts to frown again. Steve bends. "Drink? Crackers?" No dice. "What about some pear slices?"
Dove loves pears more than anything, the sticky, sugary sliced kind from the can. Her frown disappears and she walks off, thankful to be understood. Steve's just grateful he wasn't bitten.
"What else did you need?" Steve asks, winding around you where you're cleaning Avery's cheeks. A damp washcloth drips down your arm.
"More time. Have any?"
"Wren's bag is done, bottles done, Bethie's dinner." He whispers the last part. Bethie is a picky eater and she grows pickier with time, and Robin knows this, but she's not a parent (as sweet and caring as she might be for the girls). Only something you or Steve have made is something Bethie will deign to eat, and she's insecure about it despite having no reason to be. "Beth needs a new top. Your blouse needs to go in the dryer, and I can't find my nice pants. Avery?"
"I don't need anything."
"You sure? You have Mr Scruffles?"
She wraps her arms around your neck. "Just want a hug."
"Then I guess I'm busy while daddy does all my chores," you tease Steve lightly, your touch similarly soft where it tracks up and down Avery's arm. "I'm sorry Dove bit you again. It's not fair. Not fair at all. Maybe we should only have you playing downstairs until me and dad figure it out, okay? I don't want her to keep taking bits of you."
Steve clears the checklist. Not to brag or anything, but he's a pro. You both are. Life is hectic as always and you knew getting out the door would be a process, so you planned accordingly, and you arrive at Robin's with time to spare, though Dove smells strongly of sugary pears and Bethie's new shirt has fingerprints on the back.
"Hi, crew!" Robin greets. "It's my favourite Harringtons!"
"We're your only Harringtons."
"That's not true, I went to college with a Harrington." Robin ushers the girls inside. They want one thing and one thing alone —hugs. Dove is the most insistent, dropping your hand to offer Robin her arms. She picks the small girl up and smiles at her with a monumental amount of love. Robin doesn't have favourites but Dove demands it, sometimes. Avery says, "Hello, Aunt Robin," and hugs her stomach, while Bethie puts her arm behind Avery and hugs them both.
Steve's arm shakes. "Any chance I can get through? This is a really heavy baby."
"Hi," Robin says, ignoring him without guilt. "You guys are the best part about having a best friend."
Steve logs that one for later revenge and eases around the mass of bodies to take Wren into the living room. "Holy fuck," he says, "I thought you weren't coming?"
Eddie rolls his eyes. "I wanted to see the girls. It has nothing to do with you."
They hug and pat each other on the back, and then Eddie drops to his knees in front of Wren's car seat to smile at her. "I love her so much. Can I have this one? Y'already have so many."
"No you absolutely cannot. Where's Dustin?"
"They're all in the backyard. Mora's teaching them how to make grass flutes, or something."
"How'd you get out of that?"
Eddie shrugs. "She doesn't like me. Doesn't make any sense, goth and metal are like brothers."
"Is she goth? I thought we settled on hippie who wears dark clothing."
"You guys are such losers!" Robin says, like a tree adorned in girl-shaped ornaments. "Don't bitch about Mora."
"Don't swear in front of my kids!"
You, having taken off your shoes and coat, unlike Steve, shimmy around the table. "He said 'fucking bitch' in front of Bethie the other day," you gossip, sitting by your friend's side. Eddie gives you a quick hug. You're undoubtedly his favourite Harrington.
"He's a disgusting man who shouldn't have kids."
You gasp and elbow him. "How dare you."
"Can we go play with Stinky?" Avery asks Robin.
Robin puts Dove down, short hair flying every which way, "If you can find him. But be nice, okay? He's agitated today. Mora says it's something about the supermoon."
Avery laughs and Dove races to follow her sister up the stairs. "Ave, remember what I said, okay?" Steve calls after her. "Come and tell me if she's being bad! And no going in the bathroom!"
Bethie remains, oddly. Though it's obvious why she's stayed the longer she lingers, her gaze flickering between you and Eddie.
He holds his arms out. "Hello, Beth. You want a bro hug?"
Bethie laughs and meanders into his waiting arms, where he pat-pat-pats her back like he did to Steve, eliciting a wave of happy giggles. "You've gotten so big again!" Eddie says, moving her away kindly. "Woah!"
"I'm glad people have stopped saying that to me," you joke.
Steve's delighted, laughing loud and sudden, and you're always pleased to have made him laugh, practically collapsing in his direction. He pulls at you until you're arm's reach.
"What does that mean, Eddie?" Bethie whispers.
Eddie pulls her into his lap. "It means your mom is happy about baby Wren being born."
"I'm really happy too."
"I bet you are! Your dad told me you're like his little helper, is that true?"
Steve turns into your cheek. A quick stolen moment before he kisses under your ear and pulls away. "Wow," he says, smiling at you, "could we, like, actually have a conversation right now? A full one?"
You beam. "What do you wanna talk about?"
Steve could happily talk about everything and nothing with you. Before bed you guys are usually tired but excited enough to be alone together that you'll talk about the colour of the new dish soap or Avery's broken pinky nail. "Seen any good movies lately?"
You give him the look. He practically invented it, that sticky, gooey eyed love as you murmur, "Mm, no. Don't think so. How about you?"
He leans in for a kiss.
"Yikes," Eddie says, covering a giggling Bethie's eyes with his hands. "Robin, house rules, please!"
Steve drops his arms heavily over your shoulders for a warm hug. "He's just jealous," he whispers.

single!dad Steve meeting his kids teacher and finding himself 😍😍 with them
ugh, i love dad requests, thank you for sending when i begged someone too. this is very much appreciated!! w; slightly flustered stevie & short :( i’m sorry!
he’s late.
he’s late and florence is going to ‘kill him dead’ - as she puts it. the door is flung open and he winces when flo and you peek up at him.
florence glares at him with honey eyes. “you’re late, daddy.”
“i’m sorry, flo. uncle eds and auntie robs needed a…” he pauses when you stand, a pretty sight and an amused smile spread over your face. “i… uh- they needed a ride.”
florence hums. “i’ll let it slide this time.”
his eyes dart towards his firecracker of a daughter, eyes narrowing. “thank you for being so understanding, flo.”
she hums and looks up at you. “he has an attitude problem.”
“i do not!” his voice cracks. your brows lift, turning your head towards him. he rubs at the back of his neck and his cheeks flush as he shakes his head. “i don’t.” he looks at you.
you giggle softly and help florence pack up her drawings that consisted of glittery stickers. oh, how fun, steve thinks momentarily.
“i’ll see you tomorrow, florence!” you smile as she gives you a hug.
“i’m sorry again,” steve says quickly. you look over at him and wave your hand in a dismissive manner, walking towards him. “truly. i didn’t realize-“
“hey, it’s okay! i promise. she’s a little joy to have in class. i don’t mind.” you smile softly.
“i could make it up to you.” steve blurts.
your brow lifts and your head tilts. “oh?”
“coffee. uh, do you like coffee?”
“oh, i love it. i like tea as well.” you grin, hands connected behind your back as you rock on your heels.
he chuckles a bit and nods. “maybe… we could meet up at a cafe or something… if you wanted, of course.”
you hum softly, reaching behind him as you grab a pen from the cup on the desk. “can i see your hand?”
he immediately holds out his hands towards you and it almost makes you laugh. your fingers hold his fingers, writing your number on his palm. his fingers twitch from the feeling.
you pull away. “don’t forget to call.”
“oh… yeah, no. totally.” he nods, turning. he stumbles over a chair that a kid had left out. you cover your mouth when florence looks at him with a lifted brow.
once out into the hallway, he grabs her hand. “desperate.” she says simply.
his brows lift and he looks down at her. “what?”
“daddy, you’re desperate.”
he narrows his brows. “i am n- i am not arguing with a second grader.”

Lover - e.m/s.h
hello angels! i hope all of you are doing well! sorry this has taken me so long but here is the Steve alternative ending for deadbeat dad (please read it before this!!). it’s 3am and i’ve been rushing to get this out to you guys! enjoy reading🩷 (here is Eddie’s ending if you would like to read it!)
taglist: @xxhellfiregirlxx @jonaslover2006 @jadedhillon @monserat @marshmallow-bandit @ohnoimbroken18 @helen227 @leonkennedyslefthand @girlbabyvelez @thatsoara @merciiss @coffee-cigarettes-and-bandtees @itsslizzzzzzz @wicked-on-a-leash @bluegalaxyprime @baise-nous @devilsadvcte @cgsanjose @yourfavouritewitchbitch @orchidmunson (if there’s a line through your name i cannot tag you!!)
"you excited for Uncle Dustin's party?" Steve asked as he carefully pulled a pink dress over Penny's head. it had been two months since the 'fight' you had with Eddie and even though it had started off slowly he was finally stepping up to be a dad again.
"yes, i think daddy and Grandpa Wayne are gonna be there" her voice was laced with excitement as he untucked her curls from her top. he gasped loudly eyes widening like it was the best thing he'd ever heard, to be honest it probably was the best thing he'd heard "i think they will be there honey, that's really exciting" ever since Penny's party Steve hadn't left your side.
he'd comforted you when you were crying after the party, he'd be there every day (before and after work) making sure you and Penny were okay, he was this guy who was able to comfort you and if you were being honest spending all this time with him made feelings you'd never think you get for him grow.
he was kind, ambitious, caring and just so sweet. you'd known of him for years and were acquaintances until Dustin properly introduced the two of you just after you started dating Eddie. you never thought that you would be interested in anyone after Eddie let alone one of your closest friends but sometimes love is unexpected.
you felt nervous around him and were doing your best to keep your feelings at bay but with the way you two acted, anyone who didn't know the two of you would assume that you were together. you would hold hands, he'd leave small kisses on your cheeks, call you sweet pet names that made you weak to your knees. he had a lot of love to give and you loved the affection he gave you.
Steve and Eddie rarely got along, if they did it was weird. maybe they could have one or two conversations but that was it. however what you didn't know was a few days after your 'fight' with Eddie he went to see him.
he went to try help Eddie become the best version of himself so he could be the incredible dad he used to be. he wanted him to get better for himself but also for Penny. Steve knew that if they two of you got together, which he was hoping would happen, he would never compare to Eddie.
Steve didn't want to take over Eddie's roll because he knew how much Penny loved him but he would always have a soft spot for her, she was the sweetest little girl and you had raised her to be so polite and loving.
Eddie was an incredible dad before Corroded Coffin and if he was being honest Steve was jealous at how good of a dad he was. he would watch him take care of this beautiful child and he was an doing an amazing job before the band got recognition.
Steve and Eddie had briefly spoken about you and he comforted Eddie when he broke down, realising how rude he was to you through those years. he realised that all you were trying to do was let him be a dad to Penny and he screwed it up because he was too caught up with the fame.
but Steve helped him, made him realise that no parent is perfect, yes what he did was horrible but every single person on the earth makes mistakes and you can't change the past. but you can change the future and that should revolve around Penny. that's when Eddie stepped up again.
Eddie had actually thanked Steve and when the topic of conversation changed back to you, Steve's bright red cheeks were a dead giveaway to Eddie. he laughed through tears, Steve loved you. Eddie couldn't complain though, many men would look at you with dreamy eyes because of how beautiful you were.
when Eddie pointed out to Steve that he loved you he felt his already red cheeks get redder. he had been called out by Robin a million times but getting called out by Eddie, your ex, that was a completely different scenario. he has actually apologised for it but Eddie brushed him off. Steve was a great guy and if he liked you and you liked him, who was he to stand in the way?
he encouraged Steve to make a move on you because you deserved someone like him, he was good with Penny, he hated to admit it but he was kind, generous, always put others before himself.
Steve was a bit scared honestly, you and him were practically together already but there was always that voice in the back of his mind telling him that he didn't deserve you. after what happened with Nancy all those years ago he felt like he didn't deserve anyone, that he was unlovable. he felt vulnerable.
but he wasn't, he deserved to be loved and you were happy to be the one to show him what it was like to be loved. "right you're ready missy. you'll have to let mama do your hair, i have no idea how to do it" he stood up and kissed her forehead.
"that's okay, thank you for helping me get dressed" she skipped past him to go find you but he stood there, heart melting at how adorable she was. he could hear her running down the stairs before screaming your name.
"mama look at my dress" she had shouted, her voice filled with excitement and happiness. "wow sweetheart, you look beautiful" he felt like his whole body was melting when he would hear the two of you talk to each other.
he had always wanted a family, always wanted to take on that father roll and he felt like he could because of Penny. he wasn't trying to be Eddie but he wanted to be some sort of father figure in her life. she was just adorable.
Dustins 21st birthday party was today and everyone was invited. it wasn't really a party, more like a gathering of friends who hardly saw each other. most of the kids were coming back from college and Steve was honestly really excited to see them again.
he remembered when they were little kids and now they were adults, in college. Steve left Penny’s bedroom and went downstairs to see you sat on the sofa with Penny on the floor (on a pillow) in front of you. you were carefully using a spray bottle to wet her curls so it would be easier to brush.
you were ready, hair done, makeup done with a floral dress on. usually a party meant late nights where you would have to miss out because you couldn’t find a babysitter but today you could finally attend a ‘party’ which allowed her to come.
you were putting her hair in two little pigtails and Steve always wondered how she could sit so still whilst you were doing her hair. usually a kid would squirm around whilst getting their hair done, but not Penny. she was sat completely still, being patient as you finished up her hair.
“all done pretty girl” you said as you finished her left pigtail. “thank you mama” she stood up from the floor and smoothed over her dress. “you go get your shoes and then we can go, we don’t want to be late” you stood up as she ran off to the front door where her sparkly shoes were.
“you look beautiful” you flinched as his voice filled the silent living room. you turned around and saw Steve there, you hadn’t even heard him come into the living room. “jesus Steve. you scared me” you placed your hand on your chest, your heart beating rapidly as you calmed down from the scare.
“sorry honey, i didn’t mean to scare you” he laughed loudly, running a hand through his hair which was styled perfection per usual “you do look very beautiful though” you blushed, there was something about a compliment from Steve that made you feel special.
he just knew how to make you feel beautiful. “thank you. you ready to go? i don’t want Dustin to shout at us for being late” he nodded and held his hand out for you to take and you walked towards him, carefully intertwining your fingers together. he kissed your cheek lightly and with that the three of you made your way to Dustin’s party.
-
you had been at Dustin’s party for a few hours now, Eddie had showed up and so had Wayne which had made Penny squeal in delight when she saw the two of them. you were stood with Robin and Max laughing about something that had happened at Max’s college whilst Penny was with Joyce and Wayne. Steve was stood with Dustin and Eddie which was weird for you to see but you felt relieved the two of them were getting along.
Steve’s eyes glanced around the room every so often and they always landed on you before he quickly diverted his attention before you or anyone else noticed but he wasn’t doing a good job because both Eddie and Dustin noticed how his eyes always locked onto you.
“so, you told her how you feel yet or are you just going to keep staring at her like a lovesick puppy” Eddie smirked, it felt a little weird trying to help Steve ‘get with you’ because you were his ex but all he ever wanted was for you to be happy and if that meant you were with Steve then obviously he was going to try to make it happen.
“no i haven’t Eddie” he glanced at you again, his eyes were filled with adoration every single time he looked at you. “isn’t it kind of strange you are helping him get with the mother of your child?” Dustin asked looking between the two men.
Eddie shook his head “nah, me and y/n will never get back together and i see the way she looks at Steve and how he looks at her, for example right now” Eddie and Dustin both looked at Steve who quickly turned his attention back to the conversation.
Dustin laughed at how quickly Steve acted like he hadn’t been ogling at you. “they are gonna be good together if he decides to stop being a wimp and ask her out. all i wanted was for her to be happy and she is with Steve so he needs to get a grip and ask her out”
“yeah well it’s easier said then done Eddie. you forget what happened with Nancy, i am terrified that she-” Eddie and Dustin shook their heads and Dustin cut him off “she’s nothing like that man, you can’t keep putting off a relationship because of something that happened years ago”
Steve knew Dustin was right but he hated that he was. “yes what happened between you and Nancy was sad and you were devastated but do you really think y/n, the sweetest person ever would do that to you? she is in love with you i’m telling you. ask her out and put us out of our misery watching you stare at her makes me feel sick”
“he’s right Steve. she really likes you and it’s okay because the two of you are great together” hearing it from Eddie yet again made Steve feel sad for him. he knew Eddie still loved you, Eddie would always love you, and he knew you would always have love for Eddie but if he was telling him to go for it then why shouldn’t he?
it wasn’t like he needed his blessing but the bit of reassurance that it was okay for him to do made him felt at ease. he sighed, nodding his head and looking down at the floor, he felt Eddies hand on his shoulder as a comfort of some sort.
asking someone out was nerve wracking but asking you out was even more nerve wracking. you were so beautiful, so sweet, so loving and it was a big thing for him. “you’ve got this man. don’t stress” Eddie said as he looked up from the floor he turned his attention back to you.
you were listening to Max talk about something, focusing on every single thing she said, a small smile on your face. he wasn’t lying when he told you that you looked beautiful because you did, you looked absolutely perfect. not stressing out was easier said then done and he knew he would 100% stress out.
-
“she’s finally asleep, sorry you were down here by yourself for so long” you walked down the stairs and sat down on the sofa, exhausted from trying to get a hyperactive child to sleep. “it’s okay. you weren’t too long” he joked as he wrapped his arm around your shoulder and pulled you into him.
this was normal for the two of you. sitting on the sofa together, cuddling one another relaxing after a stressful day. “i saw you speaking with Eddie” you said as you looked at the wall in front of you. you cuddled more into Steve, his body heat warming you up. the blanket the two of you used was on the other sofa and with both of you being to lazy to get up and get it, this was the next best thing.
“yeah. he’s actually a pretty decent guy” he kissed your forehead gently. “i appreciate the two of you getting along. it’s less stressful” you smiled. you felt tired, the king day feeling even longer after being out at a party for so long.
“i do wanna ask you something though” this was it, Steve was finally going to ask you out. it was like after the pep talk with Eddie he had grown a different type of confidence. “i know we have been spending a lot of time together and i honestly have really enjoyed being with you”
“but i know my feelings and they’re getting pretty hard to hide now so what i’m trying to say is i’d like to take you out on a proper date and i would also love for you to be my girlfriend, if you’d like to go on one that is” you looked up at him with a shy smile, his cheeks were red and he felt like his heart was beating so fast that you could actually feel it.
“i’d love to go on a date with you and i’d also love to be your girlfriend” he felt as though this weight had been lifted off of his shoulders as you answered. finally after pining after you he had asked you out and you had said yes.
he lent down and kissed you passionately. it was one, if not the most passionate kiss you had ever had in your entire life. it was filled with love and adoration and after a few seconds you pulled away. “i have to make this date perfect” he whispered, his hand stroking your cheek comfortingly. “i know whatever you pick it will be perfect” he smiled and kissed you again.

for dad!steve can you do maybe a pool day or something? and maybe one of them falls in; and after picking them up out of the water, Steve comforts them and helps them to not be afraid to go back in. sorry this was weirdly specific😭
no no this was a fantastic request, i've missed writing girl dad!steve so much u have no idea
dad!steve harrington x reader, maisie and nora harrington from this fic make their second appearance, parental guilt (idk if that needs a warning but just in case!), 2.1k
Summer in Hawkins meant popsicles, ice cream, and most importantly—pool days. You were fortunate enough to have a house with its own backyard pool, because wrangling Maisie and Nora into the car and across town to the community pool would be near impossible. It would probably be easier trying to calm a cornered bull.
The girls wanted to go swimming the moment they woke up, barreling into your bedroom at the crack of dawn and leaping onto your bed to wake Steve and yourself up.
You’d been the lucky one to receive a smattering of sloppy kisses from Nora all over your face as a wake up call, but your poor husband had caught Maisie’s sharp knee to the nether regions as she crawled up towards the pillows, jolting awake with a pained groan.
After breakfast and sunscreen, you’d quickly gotten them into their swimsuits while Steve prepped the pool for the day, and now you were sat under the big umbrella watching Steve and Maisie do tricks in the pool. Well, Maisie was doing tricks—Steve was pretending to be the judge, giving her a score out of five for each flip, roll, or attempt at an underwater handstand. Naturally, every trick got full marks.
Steve had taught Maisie how to swim in this pool so she knew it like the back of her hand, but you still kept an eye on the two of them whilst letting Nora nap with you, half on your lap and half on the sun lounger you were settled on. She’d tuckered herself out fairly quickly by splashing around on the steps of the shallow end with you for a good half an hour.
Maisie clambered out of the pool with a gleeful giggle, darting back around to the middle of the pool, probably to jump in again.
“Walk please, Mais!” You called, shifting forward gently so as to not wake Nora. The warning had barely left your lips when her foot slipped on the slick concrete, and it was like everything started moving in slow motion. She toppled sideways into the water, hitting the surface with a shrill cry that was soon swallowed up as she went under.
You went to get up, but you weren’t moving. Why weren’t you moving???
“Oh shit!” Steve cursed, leaping towards her within a split second. He’d only been a few feet away when it happened so he got to her fast, but it seemed like forever with your heart pounding loudly in your ears the way it was.
You felt trapped in your own body as you watched Steve scoop her out of the water swiftly. She emerged wide eyed and coughing and shaking like a leaf, already curling into his chest.
He waded over to the shallow end to climb the steps, carefully but quickly hurrying over to where you were. You passed him her towel so he could wrap her up in it to ease her trembling and she immediately threw her arms around his neck, burrowing into him with a whimper that soon turned into a full on wail.
You suspected it was more from the shock than anything. Maisie was a strong swimmer, but there really nothing that could’ve prepared her (or you, for that matter) for this kind of thing. Your heart ached at the way her little shoulders shook with sobs.
Nora chose that exact moment to rouse from her slumber, blinking awake with a tiny yawn. She looked confused for a split second at the rest of you now all around her, but the moment she spotted her big sister crying, her lower lip began to wobble too.
You were quick enough to gather her in your arms before she erupted into tears too, and that made the rope of guilt knotting in your stomach grow even bigger. Why were you so fast to console Nora, but froze when it came to saving Maisie?
Steve glanced at you, giving a reassuring nod as you both soothed your crying daughters.
“Hey, hey, you’re okay, baby. You’re fine, I’ve got you,” He murmured, patting Maisie’s back in a calming rhythm not unlike the way he used to do when she was a baby and wouldn’t stop crying. It seemed to calm her a little bit, because her sobbing soon turned into choked hiccups then shaky sniffles. “Daddy’s got you.”
He wiped her tears away with the edge of the towel as soon as she gave herself a few inches of space away from him, shifting to accommodate her as she switched positions to sit in between Steve and yourself. She leaned into Steve’s arm that was still wrapped around her loosely, cheek squished against his bicep. He let her sit there for a while, waiting until she’d stopped sniffling to speak.
“Did you swallow some water?” He asked softly, smoothing her hair back and away from her face. Maisie nodded feebly, twisting her grip on her towel. “I bet that was scary, wasn’t it?” Another nod.
Steve sighed sympathetically, rubbing a hand down her arm. “You’re so brave, did you know that, monkey? You were scared but you were so, so brave about it. Mommy and I are so proud of you.”
“So proud, baby.” You agreed, leaning to kiss Maisie on the top of her head. She still looked unsure, eyebrows furrowed as she looked off into the distance. “Tell you what—to show you how brave you are and how proud we are of you, I’ll make grilled cheese for lunch. How does that sound?”
That got her to perk up a little bit. She tilted her head at you, wiping her nose with the back of her hand. “Can I help?” She asked quietly.
“Of course you can help, baby. C’mon, let’s go.” You passed Nora off to Steve, who lifted her into the air to make her giggle, and hefted Maisie into your arms, propping her on your hip with a grunt of effort. She always liked to say she was “too big girl” for you to carry her anymore, but you knew she secretly adored it.
Steve was a different story. Maisie wormed her way into her dad’s arms every chance she could get, using him like a human jungle gym whenever he stood still for more than ten seconds. You didn’t mind at all. In fact, it always warmed your heart to see how close they were.
Maisie climbed onto the kitchen stool you’d pulled up a little ways away from the stove, placing everything you handed her down on the counter. Her legs swung idly as she sat.
“How’re you feeling, baby girl?” You asked softly, testing the waters. You knew you had to talk about what happened, but you certainly weren’t going to push her if she didn’t want to.
“Okay. My heart’s not beating real fast anymore.” She shrugged, waving the spatula you’d tasked her with holding around in the air.
“That’s good! That's great, Mais, I'm so happy you're feeling better."
Maisie bobbed her head halfheartedly. "Can I put the cheese on?"
Message received, loud and clear. This was a conversation for another time, and that was completely okay.
The smell of grilled cheese filled the air quickly, and the sandwiches were done soon enough. Steve brought Nora in when you called for them, settling her into her booster seat at the counter as you slid a sandwich sliced into sticks in front of her. Maisie was a little more particular about the presentation of her food, but you knew what she wanted.
Once Nora was done, you cleaned her up and transitioned her seamlessly into her afternoon nap before coming back to where Steve and Maisie were. He looked up at you, sending you a grateful smile.
“Wanna go swimming again after lunch, monkey?” He asked casually, leaning forward on his elbows. Maisie balked, focusing hard on pushing the crust of her sandwich around on her plate. “Mais? How ‘bout it?”
“I don’t know.” She mumbled, peering up at him through her lashes. She looked nervous. You didn’t blame her. “What if I fall in again?”
“I’ll be right next to you the whole time. If you jump, I’ll catch you. If you fall, I’ll be there to pick you right back up again.” Steve promised, tucking her damp brown curls behind her ear. Maisie had always been a daddy’s girl through and through, ever since she was born. If anyone could get her to give the pool another try, it was him.
Her mouth twisted into a small frown, but she wasn’t outright refusing. “I don’t want to fall again.”
“Brave girls—which you are—they fall, but they get right back up and try again.” You chimed in.
“Mommy’s right.” Steve nodded. “The trying again part makes you even braver than you are now. And you’re already super brave, my love.”
All the talk of bravery seemed to get her to make up her mind, because she sat up straight in her seat, puffing her chest out. “Tomorrow, Daddy.” She decided, nodding determinedly. “I promise.”
“Yeah?”
“Yeah. Because I’m brave.”
“So brave!” Steve rounded the counter, giving her a double high five before turning around and letting her climb onto his back. “M’kay, let’s go get all nice and clean so we can jump onto the couch and watch movies for the rest of the day!”
Maisie giggled her approval, tightening her grip around his neck as Steve took a lap around the kitchen before coming to a stop in front of you. “Can’t forget to give Mommy a kiss!” You presented your cheek for a kiss and got one from her, one from Steve, and one from both of them at the same time for good measure.
Even though Maisie had seemingly completely recovered from it and was back to her normal cheerful, energizer bunny self, the whole situation still weighed heavy on you for the rest of the day. Steve noticed but knew not to say anything in front of the girls, just giving you an extra squeeze or slightly longer kiss in passing.
It wasn’t until hours later, when the girls had long since gone to bed and you were both turning in for the night that he brought it up, sliding under the covers and propping himself up against the headboard.
“Wanna talk about it?” His voice was soft, the touch of his hand on the small of your back even softer.
You inhaled an unsteady breath, willing yourself not to let any tears fall when you spoke. “I feel guilty.”
“Oh, honey. Why?”
“She went under and I—I froze. I couldn’t make myself move even though I know I should’ve, Steve, I’m—am I a bad mom? Does that make me a bad mom?”
“Whoa, hey, c’mere.” Steve pulled you against his chest, wrapping his arms around you tightly. You let yourself melt against him, bunching your fingers into the soft cotton of his t-shirt. His heartbeat was steady against your palm and it soothed you, just a little bit. “No. You’re not a bad mom, okay? You’re an amazing mom. You just…you were scared, and that’s completely normal. Hell, I was scared too.”
“But you reacted. You went to go save her, you got her out of the water. I didn’t do anything. I couldn’t do anything.”
“You stopped Nora from crying. That’s a reaction.” He pointed out. You knew he was just trying to make you feel better, but remembering it made you feel even worse. Steve noticed again and shook his head rapidly, squeezing you tighter. “No, no, I know what you’re thinking and that’s not what I meant. I’m just saying that you shouldn’t feel guilty about freezing up because nobody knows what they’ll do when something unexpected and scary as shit happens to their baby. You’re only human, sweetheart.”
He resituated himself so he could look you in the eye, holding your gaze as firmly and reassuringly as ever. “Scary things are gonna happen. It’s just part of having kids; part of being a parent. You’re gonna learn from this and next time something happens you’re gonna be ready.”
“How do you always know what to say?” You sighed, slumping back into his embrace.
He chuckled, pressing a kiss to the side of your head. “It’s one of my many talents, thanks for noticing.”
“Many talents?” You were fighting a smile but probably failing miserably and Steve could tell.
“Yes, many talents. Along with cooking, cleaning, shoulder massages, my Kermit the frog impression—”
“Hold on. I’m gonna need you to rewind it back to shoulder massages,” You interrupted, aiming an innocent look up at him. “I feel like that particular talent requires a hands-on demonstration, so if you could just do it on me right now, that’d be great. For research purposes, of course.”
“Oh I see, you set me up. Very well played.”
“And that is one of my many talents.”

first words (steddie x afab!reader)
summary: sophie’s first words are “i love you”
warnings: none? can be read as amab!reader because there’s no mention of reader’s gender/sex, however it is part of a series where the other parts include specifically afab!reader
part one | part two
wanna support me? buy me a ko-fi
Tumblr media
none of you are expecting it. she’s only six months old and though she loves babbling, she’s never gotten close to speaking real words
steve is cleaning the dishes while eddie gets ready for work and you’re feeding sophie
you have a routine for the mornings, and today is no different. eddie’s all ready to leave and you hand sophie to him, letting him say goodbye
he kisses her all over her tiny face and says “i love you, pretty girl”
sophie giggles and then repeats “i love you”
cue steve overhearing and freaking out, running over to see her and asking both you and eddie multiple times if he heard her properly
“did she actually speak?”
steve takes her from eddie’s arms. he’s smiling so wide :((
you’re all fawning over her, and she’s giggling, absolutely adoring all the attention she’s getting
at this point eddie’s going to be late for work but he doesn’t care, because nothing is more important than his family and this is such a big moment for sophie
steve keeps repeating “i love you, i love you, i love you” to try to get her to say it again
she’s so happy at the reaction to her words and, probably because she loves the attention she’s getting and realised that it was caused by her speaking, decides to say it again
she puts her tiny hand on steve’s face (cause he’s still the one holding her) and says “i love you, pretty”
actually the cutest first words (first sentence?) ever
