A convoy of three hundred military troops joined the elements of Mexico’s National Guard at the Tijuana International Airport, a stone throw away from the U.S-Mexico border on Saturday, August 13, 2022, in response to Friday’s simultaneous attacks on public transit and vehicles from armed crime organizations all over Baja California, 24 burned vehicles in the entire state, 15 in Tijuana alone. No deaths or victims were reported. So far, 17 suspects have been arrested for the violent acts recorded yesterday in Tijuana, Mexicali, Ensenada and Rosarito. — Military and National Guard troops will be patrolling all over the state, as certain events will still be held like BajaFest in Rosarito (where thousands of people are expected to attend). The criminal groups involved with yesterday’s attacks have promised a continuing disturbance and a “fear campaign” until Sunday night,unless the government releases their captured members from custody. Tens of thousands of people flooded Avenida Revolución on Saturday to celebrate Tijuana’s Pride Parade, which comes in the wake of some major victories for the gay and transgender rights movements in Mexico. I occasionally do some non-profit photo work for causes I think spotlight a need in our society, on May 26, 2022 I went out and shot a food poverty campaign for The Roman Catholic Diocese of San Diego’s Million Meal Event. (Full disclosure: I am not a religious person or in anyway endorse any actions or not by the Church, I took on the assignment because of the issue of food hunger that affects the less fortunate of us. Thanks). — The Catholic Diocese of San Diego is seeking donations and volunteers to package meals for families facing extreme poverty. Half of the food will be sent to the Casa de los Pobres in Tijuana, Mexico and the rest to the Philippines and Africa. — The food comes from Kids Around The World's One Meal program, which works with volunteer groups to bring nutritious food to communities that need it most. The goal is to deliver one million nutritious meals. Each bag contains red lentils, rice and a mix of vegetables, which can prepare the equivalent of four meals. Sister Armida Andrade with the Casa de los Pobres in Tijuana thanked the generosity of the diocese and the bishop in San Diego. La Casa de los Pobres delivers food every day to people with limited resources in Tijuana. Women gather at a free self-defense class at Carlson Gracie Jiu-jitsu martial arts and gym at Playas de Tijuana, Mexico on Sunday, February 23 2020. Dojo Master, instructor and owner of Carlson’s, William Messick, invited young women to participate in free self-defense classes as a community act and as a way to help give women empowerment, after his youngest adopted daughter, Marbella Valdez Villarreal was killed brutally by a man that is currently being held by police. Messick, his oldest adopted daughter Brenda Valdez (Marbella’s sister) and his niece, Elizabeth, helped him teach the classes in honor of Marbella to approximately 50 women who signed up for both workshops that were offered today. Around 100 peaceful protestors marched the streets of Tijuana, Mexico to demand justice for the murder of Giovanni Lopez, a 30 year old man detained by Jalisco police for not wearing a face mask and for Tijuana resident Oliver Lopez who was strangled to death by city police, on Sunday, June 7, 2020. On Monday, March 30, 2020, the Governor of Baja California Jaime Bonilla Valdez ordered a statewide lockdown where citizens were asked to remain at home, unless done so for essential activities like grocery shopping, going to the bank, medical care and work that is crucial. Do to a concern of high infection rates of the coronavirus all non-essential activities would not be permitted and subject to notification and a warning by police, the military and/or the national guard to those violating the executive order. — At Playas de Tijuana, the beach will remain closed and shut off to public use until further notified by the state government.
