Damage report of USS Houston (CL-81) from the two torpedo hits on October 14 and 16, 1944, off of Formaso (present day Taiwan).

The first torpedo hit at midships and caused enough flooding to cause the order to remove topside weight. It was bad enough to cause the main deck to dip slightly in the water as she rolled. The second torpedo hit under the hanger bay. This caused her to take on more water and weaken her internal structure. 7 men were killed during these attacks.

She was towed to Ulithi island, arriving on 27 October 27. The damage was inspected and temporary repairs were made to allow her make her way to Manus Island, in Papa New Guinea and to be drydocked in the ABSD-2, arriving on December 20. Plates were welded on her external hull to make watertight and girders were installed to restore some of her structure integrity for her voyage stateside for permanent repairs. She arrived at the New York Navy Yard on March 25, 1945. All of the west coast facilities were already occupied.

Sorry to bring up drama but I feel like this is entering criminal territory and should be addressed. Apparently someone dug out birth certificates of the vessels and wanted to arrange for someone to stalk them and also found out personal information and contacts from not only the members but also their families and partners. And apparently they have intimate pictures they threatened to post. That is so fucked up on so many levels. There are real human beings behind those masks and personas for fucks sake. This goes beyond just posting their names and/or faces and I'm actually at a loss for words tbh...

#if you ever come across people/info like this please report them immediately so they can't do too much damage #those people are definitely not fans bc no actual fan would be such a disrespectful piece of utter garbage #absolutely vile #sleep token

I've had a lot of people ask for updates or just give well wishes (and I appreciate every single one of you even if I havent been able to respond--Ive been stuck on the tumblr app and mine crashes constantly lol)

Some fun disaster facts for you: they had to get a special crane to remove both the trees due to the sheer size of them, and the second tree (pictured in the top photo but not in the bottom ones bc its fricken impossible to get them both in one shot on the ground) they had to cut at the property line bc it was through both mine and my neighbors house, and the arborists got uppity about potentially further damaging my neighbors house (which I laughed at but like, I get it.)

Our insurance would not condemn or assess the house until the trees were removed. Somehow that is normal.

My house was condemned--it has some insane damage not just from the collapse, but from the second ice storm that followed. The whole place is swollen (some of the floors are crazy to walk on.) Insurance did get a structural engineer to put in supports so we were able to get a lot of things out, but at the same time there's so much more damaged than you'd ever think (given some of the upstairs rooms were untouched, etc.) just from the weather.

It's spooky to walk in, and a lot of professionals wouldn't go near it (can't blame em.)

We're finally in a rental home, and we've picked a contractor to move forward with. Whole things getting razed to the ground and rebuilt.

What's insane is that only three homes so far have been condemned in the neighborhood. My neighbors house in the above image? Yeah they said it's fine.

Which I personally think goes to show how bad insurance is more so than like--the houses themselves being sturdy.

#disaster fun fact number whatever #oregon has some insane tree laws and the county is throwing a tantrum bc no one is paying for permits for trees that fell #yes you read that right #they want you to report #and file retroactive permits #for trees #that FELL #this originally involved a huge ass fee #but they walked that back after mass outrage #and now just want you to pay to “replace” the tree #needless to say #no one is a) filing these claims or reporting damaged trees #and b)#many many people are removing trees that arborists have declared damaged and dangerous from the storm that the county says “is fine”#keep in mind #many of the trees that fell in the first place #were damaged trees they denied permits to remove #its a whole ass shit show

i also think it’s so incredibly funny that the seireitei very rarely allows captains and lieutenants to carry their weapons because yamamoto knows you give these fuckers an inch and they take a mile. it literally took like two days after he declared wartime measures were allowed that these bitches started just straight up brawling on sight at full strength releasing their destructive messy shikais in public without even so much as a warning given before hand. no wonder yamamoto is so withered

Let me be absolutely clear -- the problems with Tumblr will keep getting worse if the disabled minority and the trans people and the people frothing at the mouth at the opportunity to yell at a transphobe, keep @’ing staff and the developers on this site, tell them to kys, because in the meanwhile the transphobes and racists and white supremacists will keep using the actual tools Tumblr provides for blocking and reporting, further poisoning the datasets used for moderation, and encouraging the idea that using the official tools does nothing to basically ensure the only statistically meaningful data available to Automattic is poisoned, poisoned all the way down, poisoned beyond usability.

Hatespeech and bias needs to be reported for it to be considered statstically significant to act on from a developer point of view. Suicide baiting and spamming any of the official means of communication will get you eliminated as a spammer, even if you’re peppering legitimate criticism within your ventpost about how you hate the new thing. You are playing the TE/RFs game.
