I think Merlin and SPN ruined me because now when I watch a new show, I expect the characters to have the same kind of intense bond that Merlin, Arthur, Sam, and Dean have with each other. And it's so unsatisfying when the characters are normal about each other. Like what do you mean you're not soulmates, what do you mean?? What do you mean you don't spiral into insanity the moment your bestie is in pain or danger??

Finished JJK S1.
Woooo this fight scene with the song and editing fucked so hard. Had to be my favorite fight of the series so far. Nobara and Yuji worked great as a team, which I suppose makes sense because they kinda seem to run on the same wavelength. Like they'll always be screaming and yelling about the same things while Megumi is either indifferent or embarrassed about it lmao.
When Yuji asked Nobara if she felt bad about killing Eso and Kechizu, and she said no, but Yuji pointed out that Eso cried for Kechizu... I resonated with that sense of compassion Yuji has.
I'm glad Megumi actually won a damn fight at the end of the series. He's a cool dude. but his skills weren't quite up to snuff just yet, so I'm glad that Yuji's progress inspired him to be better. Or, really, he just kinda let himself go off the rails fully.
It's really interesting to me how a lot of the characters in this series are motivated by a particular person(s). Like Yuji and his grandfather, Nobara and that lady that her village chased away, Megumi and his sister, Kasumi and her little brothers, and Noritoshi and his mother.
Mahito just pisses me the fuck off. He was fine at first, but then when he wouldn't just die, I grew tired of him and his deranged giggles. And his whole talk of the soul and stuff. Like yeah yeah shut up.
I actually grew to really like Todo. I thought he was just some annoying brute at first, but when he fought Yuji and formed a sense of friendship/brotherhood with him, that's when I found him really fun. His clapping while fighting Hanami was sooo lmao. And his love for that celebrity girl is alskdja.
Nanami ofc is one of my favs so far. I already ranted about him earlier, but I like that he feels reliable and protective. He's just cool.
Wasn't sure how I felt about Toge until I got to see him in action. He's cool as well, and I want to see more of him in the future.
I want more Sukuna bro. Wish he talked more. Though I suppose maybe less is more in his case. It makes it more impactful when he does appear briefly. But I also won't be mad if he does come forth more frequently in the future. And I will also be thrilled if he's the one to end Mahito. I'll pay him to wipe that smile off Mahito's face.
Gojo is just a fun character. A badass who also acts as comic relief. I kinda like him better with his mask on though lmao his blue eyes are kinda intense.
Oh oh oh, I loved that moment when Nobara was fighting Momo and told her she could dress pretty if she wanted and be powerful. Like yeees! Duality~
All the techniques are pretty interesting. Megumi's lightning bird thingy is probably one of my favorites. Toge's ability is awesome in action. And I wasn't really sure about Nobara's hammer and nails, but her use of them, especially in the last episode, became more interesting.
...While looking up a character's name just now, I just stumbled across a spoiler... haha fuck you Mahito.
No but the Junpei situation was sad, and it was set up well enough that I felt okay about his death because I felt like it served it's purpose in motivating Yuji more. Like obviously it would've been nice if Junpei survived, but the tragedy of his life truly did serve as just, well, a tragedy. (That being said, fuck Mahito, all my homies hate Mahito.)
I don't understand why I'll be like 9 minutes into an episode and then all of a sudden the opening credits will randomly start playing. Like bro?? Why not just play that at the beginning?? I know I've been out of the anime game for a long time but surely that's not a typical thing in modern animes, is it?? Or was it always that way and I forgot??
Overall, I'm enjoying the characters and plot. It does drag a bit when the characters constantly have to explain their abilities or certain things about curses and such, but I suppose it's the same as sport animes when they constantly talk about new techniques.

I'm gonna be real I didn't realize you had a kid and now I think you are obligated to raise them as your robin
I don't have any kids, I'm just a nanny 😆. If you hear me say "my kid" or something then I'm referring to the kids I nanny. I will never be a mother, but I'm going to be an aunt in a month, and I will definitely be introducing her to Robin at some point 😆.

#SCREAM YESS I WAS SO GIDDY WRITING THE FLOWER SCENES BECAUSE EARTH 3 RICHARD GRAYSON is the like singular vehicle of thomas trying to move#on from bruce and yet making certain that he can in fact NEVER move on from bruce bc RG’s whole function is to fill the brucevoid for thomas#but this also means that dick represents bruce more than bruce represents bruce - like the hyperreal vs the real ???? - and so richard#grayson’s grave is the one whose grave gets the attention and grief meant for two people#BUT ALSO I THINK THOMAS GENUINELY ADORED HIS RICHARD GRAYSON FOR HIS OWN SAKE TOO A LITTLE#emily literally everything u write i feel like i get smarter from reading i love
Okay I have to respond to your tags because I literally love anyone who indulges my rants about Thomas. He's one of my favorite villains because like hi he's obsessed with Dick, I'm obsessed with Dick. He's obsessed with having a sibling figure to fill Bruce's place, I'm obsessed with sibling characters in general lmao.
And yeees! With Bruce he's like, you're the sibling I wanted by my side, but you didn't meet my expectations. And with Richard he's like, you meet my expectations, you're the Bruce I hoped Bruce would be.
100%, I think if he didn't have some kind of affection for his Richard Grayson (or obsession/possessiveness if you'd prefer it in those terms), he wouldn't have tried so hard to protect main universe Dick, he would've let Ultraman or whoever do what they wanted with Dick, but instead of doing that, he actively argued with Ultraman over Dick's safety. In fact, once Thomas learned that something bad had happened to Dick (aka being put in the death machine), his priority order for Alfred was to protect Dick. And when Alfred told him no, he wouldn't be saving Dick, Thomas immediately left the battle he was in so he could race to Dick's aid.
I mean, I think it's safe to say Thomas's guilt over Richard's death was probably playing in his head, and he wasn't about to lose another Richard Grayson. He wasn't going to fail Richard Grayson this time, he was going to save him.
And then just like Thomas used Richard to fill Bruce's shoes, he tried to use Dick to fill Richard's shoes. Alfred was dead now, and just like Thomas said to Dick, "You're all I have left. I came to tell you, I'm not giving up on you and I being a team again."
So yeah I think Thomas might have had affection for Richard or else he would've tried to find someone else to fill Richard's shoes rather than choosing another Richard Grayson. Although, I think his guilt definitely could've influenced his decision to try and make Dick his partner as well. It is hard to separate affection from obsession in his case, but I think his guilt might be an indicator of affection.
Another possible indicator of affection is that, when Richard was killed, Alfred mentioned that Thomas probably wished it was Alfred who died instead of Richard. Now that's from Alfred's own perspective of course, but another thing Alfred mentioned was that Thomas's world began to crumble the moment he found Richard's body. But again, is Thomas's despair truly because he loved Richard and lost him, or is his despair from his loss of control, his loss of a brother. If he views Richard as a brother, isn't that basically the same thing, though?
Except there's an issue where I think Thomas described Richard as "almost a brother" or something akin to that, and Alfred also said Richard nearly was the brother Thomas always wanted.
Idk. Maybe it's both. Maybe Thomas mourned both Richard as his own person as well as the role he filled in Thomas's life. Maybe what he mourned most was his loss of control. Hard to say, hard to say.
@dustorange I'm forever going to think about how Thomas kept fresh flowers on Dick's grave, but he neglected Bruce's grave, leaving his vase full of rain water and dead flowers.
That makes what Alfred said in Justice League #23.4 hit so much harder.
"Thomas never found what he was looking for on our earth. He never found the brother he'd always wanted. The brother he knew Bruce could never be. But Dick nearly was."
And even though Thomas initially tried to blame Dick for his own death ("Dick got himself caught. This is his fault."), Alfred believed Thomas felt guilt over his inability to save Dick.
So the flowers on Dick's grave feel like a gesture of respect, affection, remembrance, and an apology all rolled into one.

I will say that, as someone who takes care of an 8 year old, it is pretty hilarious to think about Dick fighting crime so young. Like there's just packs of animal crackers in the batmobile because Dick will get hungry during the middle of a case. And god forbid Bruce forgets to pack a water bottle for Dick because then he'll just hear a litany of, "I'm thirsty, I need water." I mean, I know Dick is usually depicted as more mature/responsible than your average kid, but it's so funny to think about Bruce and Alfred having to deal with some of those typical kid needs and behaviors.
