fanon often depicts Jason with the typical “you’re not my dad” type angst because that’s part of the stereotypical prodigal son and father dynamic people are used to, but when you look at canon Bruce has probably denied being Jason’s father more than Jason has denied being his son. Also, in pre-52 Jason is the one who reaches out to Bruce (even if his way of reaching out is objectively kinda insane) and in nu52 and beyond when Jason is in his redemption era he’s the one who’s doing all the compromising in their relationship

Sure, Filbrick might not have actually considered his son’s investments, but in the grand scheme that doesn’t really matter. While he may have wanted success and respect for Ford, he only ever emphasized the potential monetary value of his education. While he may have wanted Stanley to be more responsible and really care about his future, he never showed him the support he needed and said very straightforwardly, “The only way to fix your mistake is money. You are not welcome back until there is something I can gain from you.”

While I do have a much more generous view of Filbrick, as I think his estrangement from at least the twins definitely haunted him (especially after he thought Stanley died without them ever making up), I don’t think whether or not he was being literal with his words matters here. What matters is that Ford, whether purposely or not, literally moved as far away from him as possible when given the chance. What matters is Stanley spent his early years desperately trying to make money both to escape the poverty thrust upon him as well as somehow reach this insane goals.

It doesn’t matter what Filbrick thought, if that’s the only way he ever seemed to make his sons feel.
