NDTC’s 61st SEASON OFFERS HIGH QUALITY DANCE THEATRE — In his short Message from the Artistic Director, Marlon Simms refers several times to wanting the 61st season of the National Dance Theatre Company (NDTC) to engage emotionally with the audience. He writes of taking us “on a journey of movement and emotion…” to “ethereal realms…” and of “soul-stirring choreography,” and “transformative experiences through dance…”.

Viewers, some of whom sat spellbound and slack-jawed for much of the performance, could see that in the company's third piece, entitled “Unbroken.” The work, which features all of the female members in the company, was choreographed in 2022, making it one of the newest and most modern pieces of choreography in the company’s repertoire.

Some days I work on being a good audience member and other days it's a bit harder. The struggle is real. A couple weeks ago I wrote a preview, followed by a review of Alexandra Beller's “milkdreams”.

               I have seen the Poreotics, the Jabbawockeez, and MJ5 all dance in sync and robotically, but this performance was out of the ordinary. The performance was done by a group called The Company who performed at a competition called Vibe XIX 2014. There were a variety of males and females involved in this dance. The dance style involved was hip hop. The performance had me in "awe". I have seen groups perform robotically, but this was a massive group with over 20 people. Their use of transitions, movements, props, and expressions was executed with perfection. Each dancer performed every step in sync, no matter what the shape or size. The expressions were the exact same. I didn't take my eyes off the screen at all, while watching it on Youtube for the duration of 5 minutes 47 seconds. This performance took place in Los Angeles on January 1st, 2014. It is still unbelievable how they got second place. The music was amazing. No matter how many times I watch it, it never gets "overrated". I absolutely found no mistakes. Someday, I hope to get to such a stage where I can perform an seamless performance.
