Ooooo... I looove the idea that the toons go into hibernation mode after the season *rubs hands together in an evil, sinister manner* Would Connie get affected as well? She was meant as a toon for the scrapped Halloween event after all! So I'd assume so...

i like to think she used to be ! considering the halloween event Was scrapped ans she seems to be a permanent toon in-universe, my thinking is she Was a halloween special character and Was susceptible to having to hibernate, but the halloween special was a big hit and they got a lot of letters wanting to see more of her, so they “rewrote” her to make her a permanent member of the cast, and maybe toned down her halloween theming. now she gets to be a side character with the rest of them !

So...I've been kinda...very...into a Roblox game lately. It's not the first time that's happened to me, but this one has really taken over my brain in a special way. So here's my Dandy's World OC! She's based off a Curtiss JN "Jenny" plane, commonly used for delivering airmail in the 1920s (and featured on a stamp which the inverted version of is one of the absolute most expensive stamps in philately).

No templates were used, I just tried to mimic the official info card posters as closely as I could, because my favorite type of OC to make is one that could feasibly be in the canon itself. :P

Also I love how you colour and shade everything, how do you do it? Do you think you could record a speed paint or something? What brushes do you use? Canvas size? How do you painstakingly colour within the lines? What device do you use?

Sorry for so many questions in one ask, I’m really curious lol. Hope you can answer these! No rush :3

First off, thank you so much!

I use Procreate on iPad, which has a handy-dandy little feature where it automatically records everything you do on a canvas, and you can create a time lapse of it. So, yes, I can give a speed paint. :3

(Yes I painted this specifically for this ask.) For comics (and this painting sample), I use a canvas that's 1813X2263. For doodle dumps and other less dedicated projects, I use a 1955X2357 canvas, rotating as I want or need to. If I have a bigger project I want to do, I start with Procreates "Square" canvas default (2048X2048) and crop as I need to as I work.

I've been sticking to this Jingsketch brush set for a while now, though I've modified some to make them more comfortable. As of now the set is free to download. (There appears to be a larger Jingsketch set that costs about $15--I may get that someday lol)

For smudging of shadows and markings, I use the Jingsketch "Jittery Smudge".

Alright, prepare for a thorough rundown of the time lapse. X3

As for how I color, the video shows my two most used methods. I do the Momo method when I want it to look a little neater or smoother, and the Midas method for when I don't care how unpolished it looks and just want to show a colored image.

For flats (the solid red seen in the video) I do it on a layer under the lines. I usually put all the flats on one layer, but this time I did their flats on separate layers for demonstration purposes, and merged them once they were both filled.

For Momo, I colored by drawing just inside the lines, erasing what went outside. Then used a Freehand (or equivalent) selection tool to fill in the inside. This is the more time consuming but smooth of the two methods, in my opinion.

For Midas, I specifically drew the outer lines thicker so that I could use the "automatic" (I guess that's "wand" in other programs? I'm not sure) selection to do a quick fill. This method will usually leave the colors with a hard, semi-unappealing edge. (Feathering the selection a little or smudging the flats can probably help with that, but I don't do that very often.)

What I do is select the OUTSIDE of the lines, expand the "Selection Threshold" so that it barely selects JUST outside the lines, then invert the selection so that it filles everything INSIDE the lines. With this method you need to be careful to get all the negative zones as well--I didn't think about demonstrating that in this painting, so here a mini-tut on that.

For the actual colors, I usually do each color on a separate layer set as a "Clipping Mask" to the flats layer. Eyes usually get a layer of their own--The iris colors and pupil (if present) get the Clipping Mask treatment until I'm satisfied with them and merge them into one eye layer.

For shading, I'll fill an entire layer, still Clipped to the flats, with my color of choice, usually set it to the Multiply blend mode, and adjust the opacity as I want. I usually shade the main body separately from the eyes, but try to match the blend mode and opacity settings.

For more high-effort projects, I'll fill a layer with a solid color under the shadow layer but above all the other colors so that I have a better idea of the shapes. Colors like on Midas here can really badly mess with the perception of the shapes and shadow locations. I may also add more Multiply layers if necessary.

And that's my lengthy and extensive look into how I paint~ Keep in mind this is MY process, and I admit I work in a rather quick, dirty, and even somewhat lazy way. So take what you will from this, and go arting as YOU please! ^w^

Dandy / Dandeliontail, Opposite of Darktail

Born to Smoke and Onestar. Onestar decided to take him in when Smoke's two-legs abandoned both of them

Very kind and hardworking but extraordinarily squeamish, always feeling like an outsider intruding in despite being relatively well-liked.

Despite many offers from Smoke, he refused to leave Windclan, feeling loyal to his clan and wanting to prove to them that his father didn't make a mistake in bringing him in.

Saved his father from drowning after he hit his head during a violent flood. He nearly died and the experience traumatized him causing him to disclose how he truly felt to his dad.

He left Windclan on amicable terms and returned to being a kittypet under the name of Dandy.

Brightstar , Opposite of Bluestar

A Riverclan leader not fondly remembered by history for her inaction against Brokenstar and her treacherous deputy Lynxfang.

Would have been a better leader in less tumultuous times but her fear of making mistakes like her predecessors and enemy Thornfang stopped her.

She died with many regrets, personal regrets such as not allowing herself to fall in love with Timberheart and Leadership regrets like not fighting against Brokenstar taking her territory.

Cypressshine , Opposite of Willowshine

Passionate and bright, she loved everything about being a medicine cat from healing to interpreting omens.

It all changed when she gained her full name, she became sullen and withdrawn, no longer believing in Starclan.

Her mentor had a crisis of faith after Hawkfrost confessed his manipulation of signs and used that as blackmail against her. However, Cypresspaw had inspired her to regain that faith in Starclan and dig herself out of that dark time, something she was extraordinarily proud of Cypresspaw for doing.

After being named Cypressshine, Mothwing privately disclosed to her what had happened with Hawkfrost and how much Cypressshine meant to her.

Cypressshine was devastated that Starclan would allow such a thing to happen to her mentor. That a rogue in clan pelt could be allowed by her ancestors to do that and cause so much suffering without intervention.

Outraged, she denounced Starclan on the spot, only wanting to heal and refusing to engage with the Moonpool. Disgusted with Starclan's actions.

Brighstar was the first one I did and you can tell i got tired of the opposite names thing SUPER FAST lol.

So let’s talk Pie Crust...

From the convo in the earlier post, I’ll paste in and correct what my “adjustments” are, but below are the two pages from my main Grimoire, the 1959 Better Homes and Gardens New Cookbook, from whence I first learned the pie crust technique I use, and it works great.

First, though, a very serious note about pastry cutters.  Wire kind? No. What you want is the dangerous slicy kind with flat blades.  See handy-dandy visual aid below:

The wire kind is worthless for this.  You need the blade kind.

OK, that out of the way a couple of “prep” steps:

Instead of all shortening or all butter, use a 50/50 Crisco (plain) and Salted REAL Butter mix.  Put your butter and shortening in the FREEZER for about an hour before hand.

Now, another hint that I ended up finding out after many a sore back after making pie crust:  put the bowl you are using (metal, pref) on a towel in the CORNER OF YOUR KITCHEN SINK.  That lowers the work surface, effectively, and allows for a more powerful “stroke” when you’re doing the cut in.

As for how much of each ingredient I use, follow the 1 crust recipe and double for a two-crust pie. Don’t follow the 2-crust.  Just double the 1-crust recipe.  I like a thicker bottom crust than most, with a substantial edge and doubling the 1-crust recipe is better proportioned for that.

After you’ve got your butter and shortening cut into chunks and in the bowl with the flour and salt, initially just slowly, but then gaining speed, slightly rotate the bowl on the towel as you do your slice-cut stroke with the other hand, so eventually the bowl is SPINNING ON THE TOWEL in the corner of the sink, as you aggresively cut in the shortening and butter with a slight angled stroke much like I’m holding the cutter in the pic above.

With this technique, you don’t really have to do the splitting of the fat amounts they talk about above.  The bladed pastry cutter makes quick work of the whole process.  Continue following the rest of the recipe, but instead of rolling on a floured surface, use waxed paper.

I roll the crust into the right thickness/roundness between 4 sheets of waxed paper, 2 on top, 2 on bottom, spaced to give you the round size you’re looking for.  No added flour.  Also, I use a heavy marble rolling pin.  Makes quick work of it.

When you’ve got it rolled out, take the top layers of waxed paper off, put the crust on your hand with the 2 remaining pieces of waxed paper, like it was a pizza crust. Invert your pie pan OVER your hand, and then flip it right side up, and then take the two remaining pieces of waxed paper off, and adjust, make your edging.

Also a good trick is to cover the very outside edging ring of crust with foil for the first half hour or so of the pie baking.  Remove after the rest of the pie begins to turn golden.

ALSO: edging:  I learned that the reason we do different edgings (ie: fluted, or folded and pressed with fork) for different KINDS of pie.  Fluted edge is for fruit pies.  Folded and pressed with fork is for nut pies.   Meat pies straight, rolled edge.  This is a hold-over from the medieval baking guilds…it was how they identified what kind of pie it was.

I wonder, with the possibility of having a sing 3 sequel, I wonder if Ryan would even be in it. If he would be added , I'm curious if they would redesign him to be more unique, in Sing 2 he looked like any other tiger character in the movie, considering he has the same models as the tiger background, and considering that the main cast have unique models that differentiate them from the other background characters that are the same animals as them.

I wonder what would his redesign would look like to make him more unique that removes him from the background but also relates to him as a part of the cast.

What do you think his design would be if he was added?

Ryan does actually have a unique model! His stripe pattern and eye color is completely unique to him, as well as his build being slightly different. Which is why the tiger we see at the auditions is Ryan in my opinion, as legit every other tiger has the same stripes besides that one (who we actually never see audition so might just be there as a represenative).

We only see two other tigers in the movies (that I could find) and while their stripe patterns aren't the same, they are more similar to each other than Ryan. Ryan has a distinct flame shaped stripe on his left cheek. And while the other two's stripes are similar, that's because bengal tigers do have those type stripes on their cheeks.

See below the facial patterns on an actual bengal tiger:

And then the stripes of the two other tigers we see:

And finally, there's my boy Ryan:

They are distinct from the other stripe patterns we've seen, no longer sickle shaped but flame shaped on the left cheek.

And while it is compressed in the auditions photo. you can see the blobs that would likely look like the other flame branches if he had higher pixelation in this frame (he's tiny and in the background).

And the other two tigers we see, though not in the best pixelation or lighting, seem to have dark colored eyes, while Ryan's are very noticeably green, and likely a shade between olive and sage green judging by how it changes in the various lightings. Even in the auditions, that tiger has a lighter coloured iris.

And as for builds, we'll use a handy dandy chart!

As for the other two, we actually see two different builds for them too. While Ryan is an inverted triangle (mesomorph), which is also Johnny's too for reference, the other tigers do seem to be rectangular in build (to be fair they are in loose clothing and that is my perspective of it but this also would align more with actual tigers too). They also differ from endomorphs and ectomorphs as well.

Ok now on to the redesign. The reason Ryan looks more like a background character despite his unique model is his clothing imo. Whenever we see him, he's either in a uniform (the leotard and leggings), or very plain, nondescript clothing (the costume underclothes and the suit).

So, we can fix this by giving him a new outfit! Which is amazing because otherwise we would have to change the entire model and that would take forever lol.

Almost all the teen/younger characters wear jeans in the movies (the exceptions are the eldest two, Nooshy and Ash) and Ryan does seem to be at least close to Johnny's age so he joins the jean club. Now adding cuffed light wash jeans to his outfit.

Second, Ryan gives off strong perfectionist vibes. You don't become a principal (or at least high up) dancer at a company like the one we see him in as young as he likely is without an ambitious and perfectionist streak a mile wide. So we're gonna go with something that codes that to the audience (aka yes, somewhat stereotypical clothing for that cliche), a dark green sweatshirt over a white button up. This type of aesthetic is also not used by any of the main cast so far and the dark green accent will highlight his eye color, making it stand out more and further giving him a unique look.

And for accessories, which please let's give these kids jewelry, I typically describe Ryan as having two double lobe earrings, with one being a long simple gold one and another that is either a rainbow heart or a gold stud. I also give him a jade and gold necklace (which is tiger shaped in the continuation fic) and have him wear dark green sneakers for more green accents. You can also add in a brown or black belt if you want so he can tuck in the sweatshirt and shirt, but those don't necessarily have to be showing.

So, yeah, that's how I would change Ryan's design to make him fit more in with the rest of the main cast! I really hope we do see more of Ryan, though I am not sold on the idea of a third movie, so I'm pretty sure I'd prefer to see him in shorts lol. Happstablook: An emo ghost with inverted colors and a tattered appearance. Instead of writing romance stories writes sad depressing stories. Prefers to be left alone. Likes writing about people's suffering. Internet troll who harasses Napstabot online but Napstabot never reads the reviews (doesn't know how to. He's very old fashioned). Has low self esteem. Think Napstabot betrayed them by leaving to be a star. Has no room in their heart for love.

Asriel: Left New Home after his siblings deaths. He came to resent his mother and the whole kingdom and started a rebellion. He runs a group of rebellious troubled teens trying to overthrow the Queen and Royal Guard. He's a bratty little piece of shit. A bully to everyone. Constantly pissing off Alphys. Smartass. Has small fire magic he attacks you with.

Flowey: Disguise themselves as echo flowers to whisper sweet nothing's into people's ears...before screaming loudly and attacking them. They do that obnoxious childish thing of repeating after people constantly just to be annoying. Their leader is more sinister however with his college educated plan. He plans to overthrow the Queen and rule the underground. Unfortunately he's too small so he's running a charity to help raise money for henchmen called the "Help Me Take Over the World You Worthless Pieces of Shit and I'll Spare You From My Enslavement" charity.....it's not going well. Luckily the other Flowey's help threaten weaker monsters for money.

Muffet: She runs an innocent little bakery.... Or at least that's what the guard think. Underneath her bakery lies her secret base where she sells just about anything and everything for the right the right prices. Weapons, drugs, baked goods. She supplies Papyrus with his weed. Wears a croptop and sweats in her underground base but in her bakery she puts on a fancy suit. Expert with computers and hacking who could take over the entire underground with her skills but she prefers to use he talent for pissing off Undyne. She's also incredibly venomous.

Grillby: The effeminate hitman for hire. An assassin who will kill anyone for the right price. Likes to drink in his free time especially flammable drinks. He also likes to eat cigarettes. His main weapon is a pistol and he wears dandy style fashion. Has pink glasses with exaggerated eyelashes and a feminine figure. Hired by Napstabot to kill you. Hates Napstabot.....he's too loud. Mid functioning autistic and easily over stimulated which is why he wears earbuds he bought off Muffet. When he's upset he's just smoke like that black smokey fire guy in Hotland.

Mad Rock: Now a geode with colors that change with mood. No discernable facial features besides a gaping hole lined with crystals resembling a mouth. Red shows he's angry which is usually a lot and he starts twitching and flailing about furiously which tires him out to a mellow grey. Enjoys fighting and it makes him happy which turns him purple.

Mad Okie Dokie Kangaroo (So Sorry): The protagonist of Okie Dokie Biker Club. A muscular Kangaroo/Dragon Boncho with sharp sunglasses, a tough leather jacket, big wings, and a mega pompadour. Tends to fall apart when angered. Possessed by the same ghost as Mad Rock. Rides a tough guy motorcycle and thinks he's a badass. Really more of a goof.
