Danganronpa IF thoughts.

I enjoyed it because I enjoy Mukuro. She's super fascinating because her whole identity is wrapped up in Junko.

I guess I should really try to explain why I like Naekusaba, but I don't get it either.

Actually, in the context of this story, Mukuro and Makoto only have each other. That's not a reason for a romance to develop, but still.

I did like that Sayaka atoned and Kyoko was the one to connect with Mukuro about what was happening. That seemed right.

Ummm, Junko, really harsh. Like, yeah you clearly did love Mukuro because you pulled absolutely no punches in trying to hurt her.

I do enjoy knowing what Mukuro thought the plan was. She definitely didn't think she was getting killed.

The world is way better in this universe because Mukuro is out hunting evil people and she's probably great at it!

I don't know how this ends, relationship-wise. I root for Naekusaba because I like Mukuro, but even in fiction it seems like Makoto works closer with Kyoko and it's tough to predict against Naegiri in any timeline where she survives.

As I've said before, Makoto and Mukuro protect eachother better than anyone else does in this timeline, so never say never.

if people can justify izuru kamukura they can justify junko enoshima

theyre two sides of the same coin theyre both bored with everything just express that boredom in different ways

izuru has such intimate knowledge of how the human brain works that it makes emotions not hold any weight the ultimate diffusion of cognitive distortions and hes not interested in people because of it because he sees himself as a higher being and inherently incapable of understanding the flaws of humanity because he was designed to be perfect

junko has such an intimate knowledge of how the human brain works because of her analyst abilities that it makes her acutely aware of how to use people, bend them to her will INCLUDING izuru who she persuades because theyre so similar she can actually break through to him by capitalizing on his thirst for entertainment

also mukuro and hajime parallel each other subtly

mukuro only has junko she sees her life as if she cant help junko with despair then whats been the point of everything because. shes desperate for validation from junko because its all she has left the only consistent thing in her life

hajime hates himself so much that he signs up for the kamukura project and willingly gets his identity lobotomized out of him because he was so desperate to be a symbol of hope even if it meant he was gone

why do people like mukuro??? let's talk about it!

(before reading, the post i listed above is clearly less a question and more of a "i don't like mukuro" post, so it will be treated as such!!! ^_^ incoming spoilers for danganronpa: trigger happy havoc)

to start us off, discrediting mukuro in danganronpa IF as an "alternate mukuro" is frankly ridiculous. a huge reason fans love her is because of how much we learn about her in the novel that we couldn't learn in the game due to her early death. not to mention, drIF is an alternate story—not an alternate mukuro. she is still the same character with the same motives, just on a different path. this new path doesn't change the fact that she is still the same character with the same personality as the one we see in trigger happy havoc. to disregard drIF is absurd considering the main reason it was written was to provide us more details about mukuro by having her as the protagonist.

even so, let's get hypothetical and say "yeah! drIF does have a different mukuro!" even if that were the case, mukuro is still a deeply complex character outside of the novel and is so much more than her loyalty to her sister.

in her fourth free time event, "junko" (mukuro in disguise) describes how she has had the same dream ever since she was a little kid. makoto asks if she's talking about modeling and mukuro says nothing in confirmation. it's made clear that she isn't talking about a modelling career. it's left to interpretation whether she's talking about her military career or her loyalty to junko. i believe her words are in regard to her loyalty because of how she starts the conversation with how she wants to talk about her "true intentions".

makoto offers that could just still feel the same way about her dream. in response, mukuro details how she no longer Is so sure about her dream and goes on to say that keeping the same goal leaves no room for growth.

all of this paints a much different picture than a blindly loyal sister. it shows us just how much potential she has always had for the story she left too early. this mukuro feels the exact same way the "alternate mukuro" felt in drIF—unsure of her actions.

now, a lot of the dislike for mukuro comes with how the anime "danganronpa: despair arc" handled her character. the way her character was handled was very distasteful and uncomfortable for the majority of fans. this take on her character was drastically different to her character in drIF. in the anime, she is shown to enjoy the insults from her sister. meanwhile in the novel, junko's insults deeply upset her. this leaves us to wonder, which is her true reaction? we can infer that it is her drIF one considering that, as we've gone over, her personality in the novel is Incredibly in tune with how mukuro is in her original source material—trigger happy havoc—so why would it be any different in this case?

in conclusion, any way mukuro is "lacking" is strictly a combination of her absence of screen time and the mischaracterization of her true nature. she is a deeply misunderstood and underrated character for these reasons and i suggest reconsidering before calling her boring.

Happy birthday, Mukuro!!

I had the pleasure of creating this piece for the I Am Mukuro! zine. It is based on a scene in Danganronpa IF that lives in my head rent free.

I really pushed myself outta my comfort zone for this one and I spent hours upon hours on it and I'm immensely proud of how it turned out! In fact, this is now my favorite piece I've ever done.

junko and mukuros relationship is so important to me

mukuro chooses to follow her sister not because she was totally in love with despair like junko is but because she doesnt think she has anyone left in the world but her sister

and also because she had experienced tragedy in her like like being a CHILD SOLDIER and being homeless and also having to endure watching her sister slowly decent into madness— she was accustomed to despair it was ingrained in every aspect of her life

junko later kills mukuro because she realizes mukuro has an emotional attachment to their former classmates and isnt going to be able to fully commit once the murders start piling up

said emotional attachment was something mukuro didnt even think she had because she had only ever been exposed to the relationship between her and junko and fenrir

so she thought despair was her only option even though if she had stuck by her friends she wouldve been accepted and she wouldnt have died because they would have valued her existence as her

mukuro dying dressed as junko is so tragic because she died thinking she was fully unlovable as her sistered betrayed her and she was not even recognized by the people she unknowingly held so dear to her
