The Pace Report: "Panamonk: Revisited" The Danilo Perez Interview with Terri Lyn Carrington and Ben Street
Welcome to another edition of The Pace Report featuring pianist, composer, educator, and humanitarian, Danilo Perez.
Recently Danilo returned to a week-long engagement at the Jazz Standard in NYC were he brought his trio featuring bassist Ben Street and drummer Terri Lyn Carrington were he played music from his critically-acclaimed 1997 Thelonious Monk tribute recording, "Panamonk." This week marked the 20th anniversary of the record and was the first time Danilo has played the music since its release.
We sat down and talked at great length of why Monk is so important to the jazz community, his role at Berklee School of Music on Boston, and reflects on the centennial of trumpeter and bandleader Dizzy Gillespie.
For more info on Danilo's upcoming tour dates as well as info on the Panama Jazz Festival, please visit him online at www.daniloperez.com
