a/n: I promised y'all a new Daryl fic and here it is! ☺️ Thank you for this wonderful request @starfirette ! ☺️ I loved, loved, loved to write this! 🥰 I hope you like it. ☺️ I changed the timeline a little bit - and I uh, may have ignored the existence of Mika and Lizzie, because I somehow struggled a lot to write them. I hope that's okay. 🙈

Biting your lip nervously, you watched your friend from afar, loading stuff in a car. He was alone, so your only opportunity to ask was probably now - or never. Taking a deep breath, you bit the bullet and walked over to him. "Hey, uh, Glenn?" The black-haired man turned to face you. "Oh, hey Y/N. What's up?" He asked you, smiling. "Can... Can you please get me something from the drugstore you're going to?" "Sure thing, no problem. What is it?" You bit your lip again; shaky fingers handed over a small piece of paper. Glenn took it and slowly unfolded it. His gaze scanned the written words, eyes widening. "Y-Y/N this... This is-" "I know, Glenn, I know. Please, keep this to yourself, okay?" "Of course, but... You know that everyone says I'm bad at keeping secrets?" You sighed, rubbing the heels of your hands in your eyes. "Yes, but you're my best friend. I trust you." The Korean nodded, "You got a point there..." and stuffed the note inside his jeans pocket. "Don't forget it, please." "I won't, promise."
You spent the time walking from one place to the next. Your mind was restless, and so was your body. A billion 'What if...' questions were running through your head on lighting speed. It felt like your skull was going to burst any second. The wait for Glenn to return was almost unbearable. "Y/N? You alright?" Maggie's voice cut through the loud noises in your head. Blinking, you stopped in your motions; looking up to face her. "Y-Yeah, of course." The woman looked at you quite a bit sceptically. "Are you sure? You seem really... uneasy and nervous. Something wrong between you and Daryl?" You quickly shook your head at your friend's words. "No, no! Everything's perfectly fine! We're good. I'm good!" Maggie eyed you a second time doubtfully, "Alright." before she turned around to leave again. You breathed out relieved, closing your eyes. Gods... That was hell.

About two hours later, Glenn and a few Woodbury people came back from the run. Subtly, your best friend handed you the small bag. "You got it?" He nodded. "Yeah. Brought three different brands." You stared at the bag, taking it into your hands. "Thank you." "Of course." You gave Glenn a small smile, which he returned. "You can talk to me about... You know. I-I'm always here for you." "I know - and I appreciate it so much." Before the Korean could even answer, you had pulled him into a big hug.
Now you sat in the cell you shared with Daryl - who was on a hunt at the moment, on the bed, staring at the bag in your hands. You had to do it. You just had to. You needed to know. So, you grabbed all three packages and sneaked into the prison 'bathroom'. Taking the tests were easy. Waiting five minutes for them to show a result was excruciating. Once again you found yourself walking up and down the room, hoping for once time would pass faster. At some point you couldn't take it anymore. You had to look; waited clearly long enough. Closing your eyes for a moment and taking a deep breath, you stepped over to one of the sinks - where you had placed all three tests, and taking a look at them. The first one. Positive. The second test. Positive. And the third result. Positive. "Fuck..." You were pregnant – without a doubt.
Shock wasn't the right word to describe your emotions right now. It wasn't really a shock, since you had the assumption; showing the typical signs for over a week now. Fear and panic were better words. In another world, you would've been happy. Having a baby with the man you loved was everything you ever wanted. Daryl was that man. The rotten, destroyed and dangerous world was a big problem, sure. Not just the walkers were a big threat. The disease, which roamed the prison had been a problem, but also other people out there. People like the Governor, for example. But now that you had the prison back and successfully defended your home against that psychopath, you weren't that concerned about the circumstances and surroundings. The prison was safe. What was a bigger problem and the cause for your main fear and panic, was what had happened only a few months ago... Judith's birth, and Lori's death. She died, birthing a child - and that was what gave you the chills. What if the same fate befell you? What if you were going to die as well, bringing yours and Daryl's baby into this world? Like Lori already once said… This wasn't a hospital. Sure, you had medical supplies - but not enough for a c-section or worse. If there would be complications, you were sure going to die - and you didn't want that. Despite that, it was already kinda hard enough to provide for one baby, but two? You didn't know. You really didn't know. What were you going to do now?
Driven by the panic coursing through your system, you went on search for Glenn. You needed to talk - and your best friend was your safe haven right now. Telling Daryl wasn't an option. Not just because he wasn't here at the moment anyway - which had left you worried sick enough, but also because you just were too afraid. You didn't want to do this to him. If you were really going to die during childbirth, you would put even more weight on his shoulders. He already had to carry enough.
"Glenn?!" You shouted up the guard tower, knowing that he was on watch at the moment. Seconds later, the door sprung open and his head appeared. "Y/N?" He shouted back. "Can... Can I come up?" You choked out; the tears on the brink of falling. "Uh, sure!" Quickly, you made your way up the stairs and through the doors. "T-Thanks." "Sure thing. Did you take the- You did." Glenn said, turning to face you and noticing the tears in your eyes immediately. "Is it... positive?" You nodded. Glenn's eyes widened. "You are... pregnant?" Once again you nodded; having lost the ability to form words. Without another sentence, Glenn bridged the distance between you and him and hugged you close. A big hug - exactly what you needed right now.
The two of you just stood there for a while, embracing each other. The only thing which could be heard, were your quiet sobs of desperation.
"W-What am I doing now, Glenn?" He pulled back from the hug, looking at you a bit confused. "What, uh, do you mean?" You blinked, staring at your best friend. Was he serious right now? He didn't get it? "Glenn, I... I can't have that baby!" And again the black-haired man's eyes widened. "Wait, what? You want to...?" Shrugging your shoulders, more tears started to fall. "N-No, but... I'm afraid of being pregnant; of birthing that baby. You know what happened to Lori! What if this happens to me, too!" Glenn immediately shook his head. "It won't, Y/N. Judith's birth went wrong, because Hershel wasn't with her. Lori was at the wrong place on the wrong time, unfortunately. It won't happen to you." You scoffed, not seeing this as easy as him. "That may be true, but what if Hershel can't be with me as well, huh? For any reason? And nevertheless, this ain't a hospital... It's a goddamn prison." The Korean sighed, tried to reassure you further, but it was no use. "I'm going to take you to Hershel now." He said, grabbing gently your arm and pulling you with him. "W-Why?" "Because maybe he can reassure you; and especially prevent you from having a panic attack." You said nothing; knew that he was actually right, so you didn't protest.
Passing by a lot of familiar faces on the way - due to the people from Woodbury your group had taken in in the prison, Glenn brought you to the small infirmary, where he was surely working.
"Hershel?" Glenn called out, trespassing the big doors with you. "I'm here." You heard the elder man call out, before he stepped out of one of the cells turned hospital rooms. "Glenn, what can I- Oh, hello Y/N." Neither of you said a thing, causing Hershel to look confused at the both of you and get closer. "Is everything alright?" Glenn turned to face you, squeezing your shoulder gently. "I'll leave you to it." With those words and a smile, he disappeared through the doors again, leaving you alone with Hershel. "Are you not feeling well, dear?" "Y-Yes." What were you saying? "N-No, I-" Even more overwhelmed now, you took a deep breath, trying to get yourself together. Hershel could see how you struggled; that you were rattled and of course, that something was bothering you. "Come, Y/N, let's sit down." The older man gave you a soft smile and gestured for you to follow him. He guided you into an empty room, in which he told you to sit on the small bed. "I'll be right back." You nodded, still too shaken up to form words.
A few minutes later, Hershel came back with a water bottle, handing it over to you. "Drink." You nodded once again, twisted the cap open and took a few big sips. "Good. Now take a few deep breaths and tell me what's wrong - if you feel up to it." You did what Hershel instructed you to do; took a few deep breaths, trying to calm down. You needed that. You didn't know it, but you needed that. "Thank you." The man nodded at you, giving you another small smile. "O-Okay, so... Um, I... I wasn't feeling that well for the last few days. Always tired, no matter how much I slept. Sometimes, I had a bit nausea and mood swings... A-And I had to pee more often." You paused for a moment, fiddling nervously with your hands. A look into Hershel's face told you that he already knew what you were trying to say. After all, he was a doctor, but he didn't interrupt you; let you speak on. "W-Well, I counted one and one together and... Glenn brought me three tests. I just took them and..." "They're positive?" You nodded, clenching your jaw in order to suppress the upcoming tears. "W-What do I do now, Hershel?" The older man reached his hand over to gently place it on yours. "Be happy about it. This is a gift. A wonder." You scoffed, controlled by your fear once again. "It wasn't a gift for Lori, was it?" Hershel sighed, knowing exactly what you meant. "What happened to Lori was an accident. It was the wrong place and the wrong situation." "That may be true, but what if I'm going to die, too? What if this baby decides to come in the wrong place and the wrong situation as well?" "That won't happen." "Why are you so sure of that? This just isn't a world to have children anymore." It was a back and forth and throwing arguments - until Hershel shook his head and gave your hand a squeeze. "Now listen to me, Y/N. I know very well that this must be not easy for you. I can understand; given what happened to Lori. But Lori had Carl through a c-section, so the chances were pretty high she needed to have Judith with a c-section as well. You on the other hand have very good chances for a natural birth." He said calmly, pausing for a moment to let his words sink in. "Despite, you are such a strong woman. You've got Daryl by your side. You've got all of us by your side. A safe place with the prison..." He gave you a smile. "We're going to make this."
Hershel's words managed to calm you down a bit and take away some of your anxiety - quite to your surprise. "Y-You think?" "Yes." You nodded and stayed quiet for a moment, before the next thought hit you. "B-But what if Daryl doesn't want this?" A low, hearty chuckle rumbled through the elder man's chest, causing you to look at him confused. "Y/N... That man would do anything for you and that baby. You know just like me how adamant he was to keep Judith alive and healthy. He was the first one who reacted, went immediately out on a run to get her formula. Daryl would never reject that baby, trust me. He is going to be a great father." He squeezed your hand again, giving you another smile, which you couldn't help but return. "Now let's get you checked up and make sure to start on the prenatal vitamins."
And for a short moment, everything was perfectly fine. Sure, you still had your doubts and fears, but the voices in your heads became quieter, due to Hershel. Unfortunately, your happy phase didn't last even three days. Suddenly everything turned sour, when Hershel and Michonne vanished, the Governor returned to take the prison by brutal force with the two missing people in tow as hostages, murdering Hershel in front of yours and everyone's eyes – and the fall of the prison in the end. It happened so fast. Within minutes, everything was heading south with walkers flooding the place and a war breaking loose. Suddenly everybody around you was crying and yelling, while you just tried to hold on to Daryl - but it was no use... In the end, you lost him, got separated from him and ended up with Tyreese, who had saved baby Judith - and who absolutely wasn't bad at all, but Tyreese wasn't Daryl. The prison was destroyed, your family split up, not knowing who survived and who didn't. Your boyfriend and still unbeknownst to him, father of your child was probably dead and you had absolutely nothing left. Within a blink of an eye, you had a mess on your hands.
Tumblr media
"We have to go back!" You shouted after Tyreese, as he walked on through the woods, further away from the prison. "We have to go back and look for him!" Your friend gave you no answer, just continued to walk on. With a cocktail of anger, hurt, frustration and sadness coursing through your veins, you quickly caught up to him. "Tyreese!" He stopped suddenly abruptly in his tracks. "We can't, Y/N! We can't! Don't you see? Our home is destroyed, overrun with walkers! Going back there would be suicide!" "I don't care! I have to find him!" Tyreese sighed, bouncing Judith in his arms to keep her asleep and quiet. "I know this is hard for you and I am truly so, so sorry, but we have to look after Judith now. Make sure she survives." A part of you knew that the man was more than right, but your heart just couldn't accept this. You had to made sure that the man you loved was alright. So the emotions inside you exploded, causing you to reveal your 'secret' to your friend. "And I have to make sure that the father of my baby is alive!" Your eyes widened immediately after the words had left your lips, realisation dawning on you. Tyreese's eyes widened as well; his jaw dropping. "You... You are pregnant?" You nodded; tears threatening to fall. "Please, Tyreese, please..." Your voice was quieter and softer now, on the verge of begging. The man sighed once again, before placing a free hand on your upper arm, squeezing reassuringly. "No. It's too late." You wanted to speak up again, but Tyreese was quick to cut you off. "It won't change a thing if we are going back there." "Fine. Then I'm going alone." You wanted to turn on your heels and go, but Tyreese stopped you; grabbed your arm gently. "I can't and won't let you, Y/N. You are pregnant! I'd never forgive myself if something would happen to you. We stay together. Maybe we find Daryl somewhere around here. He is a survivor, you know that." Those words seemed to finally do the trick and convince you to not go back. Instead, you fell into Tyreese's arm, hugging his side and crying against his shoulder.
"Y/N!" Daryl looked around frantically, scanning his surroundings, while taking out several walkers on his way. "Y/N!" He couldn't see you. He just couldn't see you. "Y/N!" The tank, standing in the yard distracted his search for a moment, as he made sure to push a grenade down the gun, causing the man inside to jump out, before the tank exploded. Daryl was quick in driving an arrow through the enemy's chest; looking once again around. "Y/N!" The archer was on the edge of despair, so afraid to lose you. He had held your hand so tight and nevertheless, you were just suddenly gone, vanished into thin air, just because he had to use the hand which was clasping yours to kill an approaching walker. It was a mistake. He should've never let you go and rather just waste an arrow. Feeling the tears coming up in his eyes and witnessing more walkers storming the destroyed home they had built up, he screamed out your name from the top of his lungs for one last time. No response. No you. "Fuck!" He cursed, throwing his weapons to the ground and rubbing the heels of his hands in his eyes - until a familiar voice spoke up behind him.
"Daryl!" The archer spun around. His gaze landed on a young woman with blonde hair. Beth. "I was trying to find the kinds to get them on the bus." Daryl shook his head. "I lost Y/N. I can't find 'er. I can't find 'er." Beth looked at him compassionately, taking his hand. "I'm so sorry, Daryl." The man was quiet for a moment, until he ripped his hand loose from the teenager's soft grip. "You gotta Beth, you gotta go. Get yourself to safety." The young woman's eyes widened. "No! I-I... What about you?" "I can't leave. I need ta find Y/N. I can't lose her." Beth frantically shook her head. "You can't, Daryl. If you stay, you're going to get yourself killed! There are too many walkers!" "Don care. Gotta find 'er." He wanted to walk past Beth, but she held him back with a hand pressed against his chest. "No! Y/N wasn't inside the prison. I didn't see her. You couldn't find her outside. What if she was inside the bus, or left already with someone else?" Daryl's eyes flickered, the gears in his head turning. "Please... If you go in there now and get yourself killed, Y/N is the one who is going to suffer. You don't want that, do you?" Daryl swallowed, shaking his head. "No." "See? Now come on. We have to go. We'll look for her, I promise!" He nodded and followed Beth, still not sure if this was the right decision.
Tumblr media
Time passed. Day after day went by. While you, Tyreese and Judith found Carol on your way, Daryl lost Beth to god knows who and found Rick, Carl and Michonne somewhere on the way. They weren't you, but he was relieved to see that other members of his family had survived. Unfortunately, they didn't know what happened to you as well, leaving the archer still in the dark. It was torturous. But so it was for you.
At some point, you lost track of time, couldn't tell if the weeks had already turned to months or not. What you knew was, that the baby living inside you, must be there already for at least three months, since you lately started to show, having a small baby bump now. Carol quickly counted one and one together as well, making sure together with Tyreese that you were safe and protected.
Well... And then Terminus happened. While Daryl tried to stay alive with the others, Carol went on a rescue mission. You wanted to accompany her at all costs, but of course she didn't let you. She didn't want to risk your life and with that the baby's life as well. So, you stayed behind in that little hut with Tyreese and Judith, making sure that this strange man you took hostage didn't escape. Let's put it this way... Not every part of it went according to plan, but in the end everything turned out to be fine. More than fine, actually...
"I'm not digging around with this crap. We just made it out." "The fences are down. They'll run or die." Daryl listened in silence to the group and Rick's arguing, biting his lower lip - until he heard the leaves of the forest ground crunch, alerting him that someone - or most likely rather something must be there. He was right. But it wasn't something. It was someone. Carol. Daryl couldn't believe his eyes, seeing his best friend standing there, only a few feet away. He didn't think he would ever see her again. Not after she had been banished by Rick. But there she was. Daryl didn't hesitate, ran over to her and pulled her into a big hug. That attracted the others attention as well. Everyone was exhausted to the core, but undeniably happy to see Carol. Rick as well. He approached the two friends. "Did you do that?" Carol nodded meekly, on the verge of tears. Rick went immediately to hug her, wrapping both his arms tightly around his friend. "Thank you." The grey-haired woman retreated from the hug, smiling softly. "You have to come with me."
That was exactly what they all did. They followed Carol to the little hut… "They're back! Y/N they're back!" Tyreese exclaimed, watching their family approach the hut through one of the windows. "Really?!" You literally jumped up from where you sat on the ground beside Judith's makeshift crib. "Yes!" "Daryl! Can you see Daryl?!" Tyreese turned to face you, smiling. "Look for yourself." You sprinted to the window, seeing familiar and also a few unfamiliar faces. Among them, was Daryl. Seeing him kickstarted your heart, sending waves of pure happiness through your veins. "Oh my gosh, oh my gosh," you splattered out, before moving over to run out of the hut. "Daryl! Daryl!" The archer's eyes shot up, landing directly on you. For the second time within minutes, he couldn't believe his eyes. He had already lost hope, thinking he was never ever going to see you again. "Y/N..." He breathed out, letting his crossbow fall to the ground and running towards you, meeting you halfway in a hug. You literally jumped into his arms, wrapping both your arms and legs around him. "Daryl..." You sobbed, burying your face in his neck. "Y/N..." You could tell that Daryl was crying as well. His voice quivering and unsteady. The world around you faded. Just you and Daryl existed in that very moment. "I-I thought I lost you. I thought I was never going to see you again." You stammered, still clinging to him. "Me too. I couldn't find ya. I searched for ya, but I just couldn't find ya." "I'm here now." You whispered with a smile, peppering the skin on his neck with small kisses. "I am never going let ya out of my sight again, I promise. 'M gonna protect you better, I swear." You shook your head. "You always protect me as best as you can. This wasn't your fault. Stop blaming yourself, please. It was the Governor's fault. Nobody else's." Daryl just nodded against your shoulder, relieved that he had you back in his arms. That was everything what mattered in that moment. You held him for another while, before you untangled yourself from around your boyfriend and backed up a bit, just enough to look into his blue, greyish eyes. Though, one eye was slightly swollen and red. All in all, he looked quite battered and bruised, causing your heart to ache. Gently, you cupped his scruffy cheeks, looking at him with furrowed brows, worried. He noticed that of course, "M fine. Don worry." and started immediately to rub reassuring circles in the clothed skin of your hips with his thumbs. "You don't look fine, Daryl." The archer shook his head. "M fine, really. Jus' a black eye and a few cuts and bruises... How are you? You alright?" His question reminded you suddenly of the baby, growing in your womb. His baby. You swallowed. Now was the time to tell him, wasn't it?
"Y-Yes, I am, b-but there's something I need to tell you, I-" "We need to go." Rick's voice suddenly cut through the air, loud enough to catch both, yours and Daryl's attention. The archer looked at his brother, an arm still protectively wrapped around you. He hadn't noticed your small baby bump yet. "Yeah, but where?" He asked. "Somewhere far away from there," answered Rick, everybody shuffling around to get ready for moving along. Daryl nodded, thinking the same as Rick. "You two coming?" "Yes, just give us a minute. We'll catch up." You jumped to answer your friend, before Daryl could. You had to tell him. Now. "Alright. Just don't stay behind. We'll make sure to look out for you." You nodded, giving him a smile. "Thanks." The others went to follow Rick, leaving you and Daryl on your own - for now. The archer's gaze met yours again, fear and worry clouding his blue-grey orbs. "What is it?" Daryl asked, eyes suddenly widening. "You didn't get bit, did ya?!" You quickly shook your head. "No, no! It's not that! I didn't get bit!" He closed his eyes for a moment, breathing out relieved. "Thank fuck. What is it then?" You took a deep breath. Now or never. "I-I'm pregnant." Daryl blinked, looking at you incredulously. "W-What?" You bit your lip, gently reaching for his hand and placing it on your small baby bump for him to feel. "I-I'm pregnant." An audible gasp left his lips; emotions getting stuck in his throat and tears blurring his vision. "P-Pregnant? Y-Yer pregnant?" You nodded, having to fight the tears once again as well. "Oh Y/N..." Daryl sobbed, engulfing you in another hug.
"Since when do you know?" You swallowed hard, knowing that this question would come. "A few days before the prison fell..." "W-What?" He was shocked. "Why didn't you tell me?" "I'm sorry. I-I wanted to, but I was so afraid because of what happened to Lori a-a-and I dunno... Before I could tell you, everything went south. I'm so sorry." "Damnit, Y/N... Jus' imagine what could've happen if you ended up alone out there? Ya could've died!" "But I didn't! I found Tyreese and Carol. They took care of me. They always made sure I was okay." Daryl scoffed, but took your hands into his. "Don scare the shit outta me again, woman, I swear…" You had to smile softly at his words, shaking your head, "Promise." and stood on your tiptoes to kiss him lovingly. "Let's catch up to the others. You stay close ta me. I don't want ya out of my sight, understood?" You nodded. "Yes, Sir." "Good." The archer intertwined your fingers with his, grabbed his crossbow and gently pulled you with him, in order to catch up to the others - what you did in the end. "So, you're not mad at me, that I'm, well... Pregnant?" Once again, he shook his head. "Why should I? This is wonderful, actually. Maybe not the best time, but we're gonna make this. Judith made it, too." You smiled up at him, your heart full and content with love. "I love you." "I love ya too, sunshine - and I promise I'm goin' to look after you and that kid."

You were a little over 7 months pregnant and your husband Daryl had been away on a run for a little over a week. You were watching a movie from the very limited selection you had when you heard the sound of a car and the distinct sound of Daryl's motorcycle. You ran out of your house to go greet him. You immediately threw your arms around him and he hugged you back.
"You've gotten even bigger," he says in awe as he places his hand on your round belly. You place yours over his.
"We missed you. A lot" you smile up at him.
"I missed ya guys too. Let me just finish up 'ere and meet ya back at the house. Show ya just how much I missed ya" he whispers that last part.
You blush and nod before giving him a quick kiss and walking back towards your shared house. Once inside you take off your shirt and bra and wait for him on your bed. You hear the sound of a door opening and closing and before you know it Daryl is standing in front of you.
"Look at ya. Even ya tits are bigger" he growls. He removes his vest and shirt before getting on top of you. He kisses you roughly and you moan letting him slip his tongue into your mouth. He trails kisses down your neck and valley of your breasts.
"I missed ya so much," he says. You're about to tell him how much you missed him when his warm, wet mouth latches onto a nipple.
"'s too sensitive" you moan. He nods and slows his pace and places his hand on your belly.
"You're so beautiful" he praises and you blush at his words. "I mean it"
"Oh, Daryl feels so good" you moan. He pulls away from you and you look down at him confused. He begins pulling down your shorts and panties. He throws them behind him and positions his head between your legs. Your legs tremble when he spreads your folds with his finger.
"So puffy" he comments. He lightly runs a finger up your slit and you let out a loud moan. When his finger makes contact with your clit you knew you were a goner.
"Dar, gonna...ahh" you cut off as your orgasm tore through you. He continued rubbing your clit until you pushed his hand away.
"Ya think ya can handle my cock?" he asks. You nod and he takes off his pants and boxers. He positions himself at your entrance and slowly pushes the tip in causing you both to moan in unison.
Once he bottoms out he gives you a minute until you nod and he starts a slow and gentle pace. With each thrust, he hits spots you didn't know you had until you had met him. As you clench around him, he leans down and kisses you. You moan into the kiss as you feel your orgasm rip through you and you both look at where his cock is now fully covered in your juices. He groans as he shoots his load into your pussy.
He pulls out of you and lays beside you to catch his breath.
"Do you wanna go take a bath?" he asks and you nod.
"I love you Dixon" you say.
"I love you too Mrs.Dixon" he replies and leans in, locking his lips with yours. The kiss continues until you pull away.
"I think I was promised a bath," you say.
He chuckles and helps you up and to the tub.

Opening your eyes, you had to immediately squint against the morning sun. It couldn’t be later than eight o’clock, give or take a few minutes. You were still in the same room Hershel had put you in two days ago, only allowed up to walk around, use the bathroom, and join for meals if you would like. Hershel had said you could still do light chores with no bending or reaching above your head, but Daryl had forbidden it without even saying a word. So, you mostly rested and focused on taking in enough water. Carl or Beth would bring each person’s bag so you could go through and inventory the contents, ensuring all the supplies were making it from each escape and taking note of any new supplies added.
Stretching your legs, you winced at the ache in your pelvis. “Christ, Thumps. Why do you have to sit right on my bladder first thing in the morning?”
“S’prolly like a pillow.”
You already wore a smirk when your head rolled toward the door, finding Daryl in the chair working on his crossbow. Did it really take that much upkeep? Or was he just that meticulous? Cradling your belly, you eased onto your side to face him, propping yourself on your elbow with your cheek on your palm.
“Most women would find it creepy to wake up with a man watching them while tinkering with a weapon.”
His hands kept moving but he looked up with a smirk of his own, a dark brow arched. “But not you?”
You shook your head against your hand, smiling gently. “Not me.” He laughed with a breath through his nose and refocused on what he was doing. You had to push yourself up on your arm and shimmy around a bit to get into an actual seated position. Your belly was warm and heavy against your upper thighs, a hand or foot pressing out next to your navel. You poked it and chuckled when it disappeared and popped right back out. “Good morning, baby.”
In your peripheral, you could see Daryl had stilled, felt his eyes on you. He was watching the interaction in silence, as he usually did. Just as you watched his interactions without a word. You started to invite him over, but the baby shifted, the weight on your full bladder doubling and the discomfort growing tenfold.
“Okay, time to pee. Like—yesterday.”
Your partner was already getting to his feet and standing next to the bed before you even maneuvered your way to the edge of the mattress. Daryl leaned forward for you to grab his biceps while his hands found purchase beneath your arms and pulled you the remainder of the way with what appeared to be little to no effort. Using the hold he still had on you, he lifted you straight up and let you find your footing. Your protruding stomach was pressed against him, immediately squashing any hope you had of stealing a kiss.
You looked up at him with a silly pout that instantly disappeared in the face of the tiny one-sided lift of his lips. He’d smiled at you before; hell, he’d even laughed at and with you. But this? This was the most peaceful, truest smile you had ever seen him wear.
And then it was gone, replaced with a scowl that was half hearted at best. “What’s with the face?”
“Nothing.” You brushed your fingers over his left temple at the same time that you felt his hands on either side of your belly. “As sweet as this moment is and as much as I love you, if we don’t get me somewhere to empty my bladder within the next two point three seconds—well, remember when I vomited on your boots?”
“Gross.” Daryl’s lip curled. He knew where you were taking that implication and urged you toward the door with a hand on the small of your back. “Just walk. Or—waddle.” When you snapped your head around to gape at him, he was utterly stoic.
“I swear I’m gonna strap a watermelon to your stomach and we’ll see how sexy you can strut.”
The archer snorted, following you out the door.
Tumblr media
You were impressed that you could still move as fast as you were, dodging and ducking, with Carol’s hand tight in one of yours. Your bag was on your shoulder, bouncing against your back, and your other hand braced the swell of your belly. The other woman was watchful, taking out anything that she knew you couldn’t get around. Daryl was at your heels, stabbing walkers that stumbled out from the sides.
“Get ‘er outta here, Carol!” He roared from behind you, sounding further away than you were entirely comfortable with, but he always said run, don’t look back. You had promised to listen to him. It’s how you kept the peace when you were just as stubborn as him. Each of you gave a little.
“I’m trying!” Carol hissed out through gritted teeth, letting go of your hand to push back a walker while she stabbed another. Your knife sheath was unsecured, the weapon easily accessible, but you had promised to only use it when absolutely necessary. The walker that Carol had shoved turned in a stagger that led it straight toward you. In your book, that qualified as necessary. You took it down with ease, unable to admit how good it felt to protect yourself because another took its place. And another. And another. “Go! Get to the truck!”
You had the keys. Daryl always made sure you carried them now. You were perfectly capable of hot-wiring a vehicle but he didn’t want you wasting time. The two of you never discussed what would happen if he made it to the truck and you never did. He would never entertain the thought. Not for a moment.
You gave Carol a look, one that said you knew you had to listen to her, to Daryl but that it was definitely not what you wanted to do. And then you ran, stabbing if needed, dodging when you could. There were so fucking many. You could hear the yells of the others making their way to the van, sending up a silent prayer that they all made it. Your lungs were on fire by the time you saw the truck. It should have been a straight shot but someone—who had yet to come clean because you were all running for your lives—had left the gate open and allowed the dead to fill the driveway.
You caught yourself against the cold metal passenger door, fumbling for the handle before jerking it open. You had lifted one foot into the cab when the door was forced inward, slamming it against the side of your head. With a shout, you pushed back, scrambling to get inside the truck while your ears rang and your vision blurred. How many head injuries were you going to rack up within a year? Hands were grabbing at you, pulling at your bag, your clothes, your hair. Finally, you were on the seat, holding the door tight while two arms and several hands kept you from closing it.
“Fuck!”
Their snarls and moans were so loud that you couldn’t hear anything beyond them and the steady knell in your ears. Hands hit the driver’s side window. More walkers. Daryl wasn’t there. Carol wasn’t there. You’d never be able to get across the seat to start the truck before at least one was in the cab with you, maybe more.
But goddamnit, you had to try.
It was the only option left. You had to save Thumper and that meant saving yourself. It was what Daryl made you promise.
Holding the door with one hand, you leaned and fumbled with the key against the ignition. “Come on!” After a few more tries, a few more agonizing seconds, the key slid home. “Yes!” You let the bag slide from your shoulder and to the floorboard. Turning yourself to put your feet against the door while still holding the handle was some seriously uncomfortable gymnastics shit but you didn’t hold the position long. Pushing against the door with your feet, you both propelled yourself toward the steering wheel and knocked back the walkers that had been blocking you.
The seat was left between where it needed to be for you or Daryl to be able to drive. You could fix it later but you could fit well enough to get the fuck out of there. Turning the key, the engine barely started before you were throwing the shifter into drive. There were thumps that indicated a few had climbed into the bed but you could deal with that later.
Mowing down walker after walker, you nearly sobbed when you saw the taillights of the van. The others had made it. Had everyone made it? Maybe Daryl and Carol were with them. It took only a few moments to get far enough away to stop. You pulled off the road, just behind the van, your passenger door hanging open. The truck rocked, reminding you that there were still the walkers in the bed, but as people filed out of the van, there was no Carol. No Daryl.
And your world came to a screeching halt. “No.” You whispered against the hand you pressed to your mouth. Your other hand gripped the fabric of your coat over your stomach. Rick would never let the walkers get into the truck so you placed your head against the steering wheel and let the tears fall. How would you do this without Daryl? How could you live without him? The man you loved was gone and you knew in your heart of hearts that you needed to go back, face the herd, find him—along with Carol—and put them down. You wouldn’t leave them to walk. You couldn’t. You needed closure. A grave to visit if possible.
When the driver’s side door opened, you sobbed even harder, knowing Rick could never know how to comfort you. Your arms wrapped around your belly, your apologies to little Thumper for never being able to meet their father were choked down by each jerk of your shoulders, each wet breath. Distantly, inwardly, you hoped for a boy that you knew you would name DJ. You hoped he would be the spitting image of Daryl.
“Christ, ya drive like a maniac. Ya hurt? Baby okay?”
You straightened so quickly that your belly bumped the steering wheel and you felt a twinge of pain in your back. Daryl—a little worse for wear—was standing at the door, staring at you like nothing had happened.
“Dar—how—” You sobbed.
“Jumped in the back ‘fore ya could peel outta there. Carol too.” He tilted his head and studied you, his eyes raking over you before stopping on the right side of your head. “Ya alright?” You didn’t even register his arm lifting, but then his calloused fingertips were touching a tender spot just behind your right temple. You hissed but that pain meant nothing. “Hey, talk to me.”
As quickly as you could manage with your rounded middle, you launched yourself at him, falling into his chest with his arms instantly encircling you beneath your own. He walked forward and pushed you back onto the seat for support and held you tight, his cheek against the top of your head.
“I thought you were dead, you absolute fucking asshole!”
A hand pressed against the back of your head, pulling you to rest against his collarbone. “M’right here. M’fine. Carol’s fine.” When he tried to push you back, you held on, digging your fingers into his back, taking fistfuls of his vest. “Want Hershel to look ya over, butcha gotta let go first.”
“No.” You stated bluntly.
He didn’t say anything for the longest time, simply letting you cling to him until your sobs had quieted to whimpers and hiccups, his large hands rubbing your back and cradling your head. “Alright. Least scoot over so I can drive. An’ ya gotta let ‘im take a look atcha when we get to wherever the fuck we’re going.”
With a sniff, you conceded, nodding against his chest. When you moved back across the seat, you kept a hand fisted in the front of his shirt until he climbed in after you. He was talking with Rick but you didn’t hear a word of it. Your forehead was pressed against the round of his shoulder, thigh against his, hands gripping the hem of his vest below the arm he had outstretched to the wheel. Your body rocked with his as he closed the door. He went still for a moment, likely examining how he was going to drive with you clinging to him like a fungus but not a word was said. You had never killed the engine, so he just shifted the gear and drove while you held onto him like a lifeline.
Tumblr media
“Ssh. Gotta be qui—fuckin’ christ.”
You had purposefully clenched your walls around him while continuing the steady rocking of your hips. “Ssh,” you pressed a finger to your lips, “gotta be quiet, Daryl.” The scowl he gave you was impressive for a man teetering right on the edge of orgasm. You traced a line through the sheen of sweat on his chest, only stopping when you reached where your belly loomed over him. His fingers were digging into your thighs, moving up to your thickened waist to both guide and urge you. “I’m so close.”
Daryl only grunted, running a hand over your prominent belly and up to your breast, squeezing gently. You were still so sensitive—and sore—but with one flick of his thumb over your wet nipple, you crested, your palm swiftly covering your mouth to muffle your shout. He quickly let go of the soft mound of your chest to grab a thigh, digging blunt nails into your flesh as he followed you up, up, up with a series of heightened breaths, desperately keeping himself quiet as well.
Still panting, Daryl caught you by your bicep and rolled with you to lay you onto your side, slipping out of you in the process. You must have looked as dazed as you felt because he was brushing your sweaty mess of hair out of your face and narrowing his eyes. “Ya okay?”
“Mhm.” With a content sigh, you caught his hand and kissed his palm, smiling when he gave you that look as if he had no idea what to do next. “I love you.” His mouth twitched into a tiny smile, a hum vibrating behind his lips. He turned his hand to hold yours, placing them on the bed between you. He didn’t say it back but he didn’t need to; you knew. You knew about his dissent with emotions but he had said he loved you and you believed him. And that was that. “Let’s get cleaned up and go face the people we probably kept awake.” You chuckled.
He scoffed, throwing the blankets back from the bedroll as he sat up. The room was cold. There were even goosebumps on his skin where the air touched it, and that man was always hot. The house was more of a shack, one large room with the kitchen and a family area, one bedroom, and a bathroom. It was the third temporary safehouse in a week and a half.
Daryl kept the truck close to the door now, as close as he could possibly get it. With you at around 38 weeks, he was taking no chances. Seriously. No chances. You had to pee? He was with you. He had to pee? You were with him. He was practically attached to your hip, but you were finding you didn’t feel crowded at all. You just couldn’t since the night you thought you’d lost him.
The archer stood, pulling up his pants and underwear together, staring at the window as he buckled his belt. God, he was beautiful. The moonlight was bathing him just right. He didn’t look real. Licking your lips, you thought about asking him to get right back under the blankets but that train of thought derailed with the tightening of your abdomen. You made a noise of discomfort, even though this contraction didn’t hurt. It still wasn’t the best feeling in the world.
“What?” Daryl sniffed, looking down at you.
“Stupid fake contractions.” You grimaced, holding out a hand for something with which to clean yourself up. He was already on it, digging through the bag for the bra pads for you anyway. He tossed you one of his shirts, huffing a laugh when you regarded him with bewilderment. “Are we really going to have Carol washing jizz off one of your shirts? Oh my god, or Beth?! No! Give me something else!”
“Ain’t much else to use, Sunshine.” He tossed the bra pads at you but continued rifling through the bag. A box landed next to your hip which you recognized as squares of gauze. If it weren't for the fact that you not only needed to clean up the mess between your legs but the bedroll and blankets as well, you would have just thrown on your underwear and left it.
Daryl was buttoning his shirt and not really paying attention when you wiped through the sticky mess at your core, ready to open another square but then your hand was brought to a sudden halt. Along with your heart.
“Daryl.” You knew there was fear in your voice, you couldn’t have hidden it if you tried. When you looked to him for reassurance, you found your expression mirrored.
“Hey, doc, get the fuck in here!” He bellowed, staring at the thick glob of red, white, and yellow on the white material. Everyone was asleep or had at least bedded down, so it would likely take a moment for anyone to appear in the doorway. Still, he moved fast, pulling the tank top he had tossed to you over your head. It had to be stretched over your belly and a portion of your breasts could be seen from the side but at least you were mostly covered since it was untelling how many would respond to his exclamation.
“Daryl, it’s blood. I’m bleeding. Is this normal? Is something wrong?” You rambled, the hand holding the gauze shaking so fiercely that he was forced to take hold of your wrist to steady it.
“I dunno. Hershel can—he’ll look. S’gonna be okay.” On his knees beside you, he pulled you against him with his free arm, holding you so tightly that you just knew it was so you didn’t shatter. “Hershel!”
“What’s wrong?” Carol was the first in, wrapping her cardigan tightly around her, but Hershel was just behind her, wiping at his eyes.
“What on earth, son?”
“She’s bleedin’, she ain’t s’posed to bleed is she?” Now, you could feel Daryl shaking, even with his voice as steady as it was.
The others were filing into the room but Carol was on top of things, ushering them all right back out while the old man rolled up his sleeves.
“Carol, could you bring a couple more candles, please?” He asked, his tone so light that even you wanted to kick him. It was likely Daryl wanted to throw him out the window. “Let’s see what we have here.” Hershel picked up the one candle you and Daryl had lit and knelt down next to the bedroll, his knees cracking and popping. When he held his palm flat, you curled your lip, wishing gloves were something any of you had thought of on the runs. Daryl guided your hand with his hold on your wrist, keeping the gauze from flipping or spilling onto the man’s palm. “Hmm. Can you tell me what happened before this?”
You and Daryl turned beet red. There was obviously cum on the gauze as well.
“‘Sides the obvious?” The archer murmured.
“Okay, so sex.” Hershel nodded. Daryl blanched. “Anything else?”
You were suddenly blank, the fear gripping your heart so tightly that it was cutting off the circulation to your brain. How could he seem so calm about this?
“She had one’a them fake contractions.” Daryl supplied. If you weren’t a trembling wreck, you would have kissed him.
Carol trotted back into the room with a candle in each hand, kneeling down next to the veterinarian. “Is that—?”
“I think so.”
You were looking back and forth between the two, still unable to find your voice. Once again, Daryl spoke for you. “Gonna make us guess?!” He snapped.
“Easy, Daryl.” Carol admonished, reaching a hand toward him but not touching.
“Don’t fuckin’ easy me! What the fuck is—”
“Calm down.” Hershel demanded in a no nonsense tone. You felt Daryl’s hold around your shoulders tighten. “I believe this is what is called the bloody show. Sometimes it just comes out on its own, but it can be triggered by intercourse. Now I have no way of knowing if the mucus plug has already passed and sadly, our woodland toilet would make it difficult to know anyway. It could actually be present in this. Regardless, that hardly matters.”
“M’gonna need some English an’ real fuckin’ quick, doc.”
“She’s fine, Daryl.” Carol soothed. “You know we wouldn’t say that if she weren’t.” The archer looked back and forth between the two again while you looked up at him. It took a long moment of uncomfortable silence but you felt the tension pressed against you loosen ever so slight. “Let him finish.”
Daryl gave a curt nod.
“This usually means the cervix is thinning and dilating; that the baby is nearly ready to be born. Now the contraction,” he continued while twisting to place the gauze somewhere behind him, “could have been Braxton Hicks, yes. It could have also been the real thing. Was it painful?”
You shook your head.
“They aren’t always in the beginning. According to my reading, some women are lucky enough to have very mild contractions all throughout labor and delivery.” He smiled, trying so hard to settle the unease eating its way through your sternum. “I’d like to examine you. Would you allow that?”
You nodded, feeling Daryl turn his head to see your permission with his own eyes.
“Okay, lie back please. Carol, I’ll need some water and soap please.” The woman was up and out the door before you could blink. “This will be just like the last one. Some mild discomfort but it shouldn’t be anything beyond that. Have you had any contractions since the last one?”
“No.” You sounded so small, even to your own ears.
“Okay, that’s good. We won’t rule anything out yet. Your water hasn’t broken, but I must warn you that it is possible I may accidentally cause that during the exam. If that happens, there’s no reason to be alarmed.”
You were nodding, you felt yourself doing it but it didn’t feel like you were really there at all. The fear had won and you were falling victim to the panic stirring up within you, its tendrils snaking around your lungs, making it impossible to breathe.
Then Daryl released your wrist and slipped his hand into yours.
He was listening carefully to Hershel, watching Carol return, but he was still attentive to what you needed at that moment as well. You felt the pressure in your chest recede, your lungs easily filling while your heartrate slowed. You were still scared. You still trembled, but so did he.
The vet had moved onto the bedroll but before he could do anything, Daryl was reaching down with a quick I got it and moving the blanket. His free hand was warm on your thigh, not removing it until you bent your knees and placed your feet flat. You watched the old man for a moment, suddenly self conscious when he stared impassively before his eyes flitted over to Daryl.
“Oh, uh—sorry for the—yeah.” The archer cleared his throat, his head ducking.
“Carol.” Hershel sighed. “If there are any runs to be made soon, please make sure gloves are mentioned as a necessity.” The other woman giggled behind her hand but quickly wiped it away and nodded. “Okay, here we go.”
It felt exactly as it had the first time, deeply uncomfortable and borderline painful at certain points, though this time you were able to remain still and silent. You chose to watch your partner as he eyed Hershel like a hawk, eyes squinted and focused. You squeezed his hand. Instantly, his attention was on you. His thumb swept back and forth over your knuckles, a grounding movement on which you could center yourself.
“Well.” Hershel had pulled his hand away and was washing up with the soap and water Carol had brought in for him. “You’re about 3cm, my dear. Now it’s anyone’s guess when your water will break or if it will at all. If not, I will likely need to intervene to speed things up but that’s down the road. Take it easy but walk around if you can. Drink lots of water, any extra that we can ration off for you. I’m sure others would be willing, myself included. Let me know of any contractions, even if they aren’t painful. We will need to start timing them. I can get Glenn to loan you the watch I gave to him, Daryl, but please don’t smash it.”
“Wait. That’s it?” You struggled to sit up until Daryl assisted you.
“That’s it. It’s a waiting game now.” Carol picked up what she could and promised to return for the rest, smiling at you before she left the room, likely to fill in the others. “But from the looks of things, your little Thumper will be making his or her debut in the very—and I mean very—near future.”
Both you and Daryl stared at the doorway long after it was empty. When you squeezed his hand, he squeezed back. And in unison, you both took a deep breath and uttered two words.
“Holy shit.”

just some short and sweet pregnant!reader x daryl dixon (about 900 words)
please feel free to leave me feedback and show your support by reblogging!
warnings: pregnancy, mention of Lori, super sweet soft daryl and protective daryl
era: prison (season 3 episode 4 spoilers!!!!) (set specifically after woodbury joins the prison.)
-
After watching Carl and Rick grieve after the loss of Lori when she gave birth to the youngest Grimes, you and Daryl swore you would be more careful when participating in intimate activities. It hadn’t ever been an issue with you two, and a baby was something you’d thought you never have to worry about. But as they say, one thing led to another, and here you are three months out from your last period, and two undoubtedly expired, yet strongly positive pregnancy tests tucked inside of Daryl’s pillowcase.
You and Daryl were anxious of course, yet elated at the thought of not only another little one running around the prison, but for them to be yours. Nights upon nights you and Daryl have stayed up far too long discussing baby names, having playful debates over whether it’ll be a boy or a girl, and secret words of love and admiration that fell through the two of your lips. You hadn’t yet told anyone, wanting it to be for just you and come out when you were ready, unlike the choice Lori had, but you had a feeling that your group had started to figure you out.
Maybe it was the way Daryl would give you his portion of dinner which led into a quiet argument about who needed it more. “Y’re eatin for two.” “And you need energy to keep the two of us safe.” Carol began giving you a bit more than everyone else, and that’s when you were sure she knew.
Or it could of been the way he was overly protective of you anytime Rick wanted you to go on a run or do anything for that matter. “Y/n will you go-” “Go where? I’ll do it.” “Daryl I’ve got it, I’ll be okay.” “No. Ya ain’t goin’. That’s final.” Rick instead began asking you to tend to the garden, so he might have had a suspicion as well.
It could have also been the way Daryl’s eyes watched you as you helped with Judith, the overwhelming love and longing in his eyes as you cradled the baby and sang to her softly as Beth watched from the sidelines. “You’re droolin more than the baby Daryl.” “Shut up.” Yeah, Beth definitely had an idea.
“I think we’re gonna have to tell everyone soon,” you told Daryl, as you slipped your night shirt over your head, turning back around to see his eyes already on you.
“If you’re ready,” he agreed.
“When you look at me like that, the whole world knows,” you said, making your way toward him to wrap your arms around his neck. His hands instinctively found your waist, looking down toward your stomach.
“Can’t help it, you’ve got a little bump too,” he breathed, a smile spreading on his lips. You smiled back, bringing your lips to his before flicking off the lamp and leading him to your makeshift mattress on the floor.
Soft whispers floated in the air, Daryl’s hand resting gently on your stomach, your hand lost in the growing locks that sat at the base of his neck. Your eyes closed as you took a deep breath, reveling in the smell of him that surrounded you.
“Ya alright?” Daryl questioned, his fingers that had found there way under your shirt rubbing small unidentifyable shapes over the tiny bump on your stomach. You nodded, blinking slowly before looking up at his concerned gaze, a sleepy smirk on your lips.
“More than,” you muttered, scooting over on the mattress so you were impossibly close to him. Digging your head into his chest, he let out a breathy chuckle as he repositioned his arms around you and the leg you had throw over his body, before placing a sweet kiss to your head. He felt the vibrations of your voice against his chest as you spoke but he rolled his eyes as he didn’t catch a single word you were saying.
“Ya know I can’t hear ya when you do this,” he teased, moving back slightly so your face was exposed. He didn’t miss the whine that left your lips as your contact separated and you looked up at him with a pout.
“Whatcha poutin’ for girl?” he asked, placing his hand on the side of your face.
“Was jus’ telling you I love you, didn’t mean I wanted you to go away.”
“ ‘M still right here sunshine, now come on, ya need sleep.” Before you could disagree, a yawn ripped from your throat, a light chuckle following from both you and the man in front of you. You nodded, pushing yourself up from the mattress to reach his lips and kiss him tenderly.
“Goodnight Dar,” you smiled before rubbing your tummy, “goodnight little guy.”
“Gonna be a girl,” he grumbled.
“Keep dreamin’ Dixon, ‘s mother’s intuition. We can always have another.” Daryl laughed again a light shake of his head.
“Let’s get through this one first, goodnight girls. Love ya both.” You rolled your eyes, kissing him once more before laying back down instantly falling asleep in the comfort of his arms.

How could you!?
Daryl tells you about Leah, now you don't know how to tell him about your surprise
Tumblr media
"Hi D, I have your supplies here!" You say to your fiance, pulling him into a hug with a giddy smile. "Hmm" he replied back not really returning the hug. You pulled back with your brows slightly furrowed "Whats got your panties in a bunch?"
"Nothin' ". "Honey it's obvious somethings wrong, but I do have something for you". You reached into your bag and pulled out a box, but before you could say anything else he stopped you. "Y/N there's somethin' I've gotta tell yea' ". The look on his face made your heart beat faster. Anticipation was taking over your body as you were waiting for him to tell you what he needed to say.
"I met someone out' here".
"Oh... that's nice I'm glad that you're not out here all alone at least you'll have some company" you say relieved he didn't say he got bitten.
" Tha's not wha' I mean... y/n I'm sorry" . It took you a moment to comprehend what he meant, it finally clicked in your head what he meant, tears brimmed in your eyes as you looked at him in disbelief . Your heart felt like it was shattering into pieces, everything you did together, all the sweet talk about you being the only one for him was gone in the wind like dust, it meant nothing to him and that made your blood boil.
You immediately got up to leave but he followed quickly grabbing you by the waist. You turned around and pushed his chest back hard "How could you!?" Streams of tears started falling down your face waiting for him to answer. You pushed him again "HUH! Was I not good enough, why Daryl, why did you do this!?"
"Yea' are good enough, I jus' wasn't thinkin' "
"Oh please if i was good enough for you, you wouldn't have went out there seeking warmth from another woman!, matter of fact"
"Did you like it?
Was it good?
Was it worth it?
Tell me Dixon was it?" You asked getting close to his face with bitterness laced in your voice. He couldn't even meet your eyes as you scoffed "unbelievable you can't even say anything for yourself" "No it wasn't and I'm sorry"
"Sorry? That's all you have to say for yourself, no I'm sorry that I was an asshole and banged another chick for the fun of it even though I have someone back at home?" He didn't say anything.
You reached down and picked up everything you brought for him and threw it right at him earning an "oof" in return. "This is the last time I'm coming out here, someone else can bring this shit to you if you want to talk about this whole fucked up situation you know where to find me".
As soon as you turned around you let the tears you were holding back fall down your face. But before you left you realized there was something you didn't know, the chicks name. "Whats her name?"
"Leah" you nodded , you reached into your bag and pulled out the box "before I forget" you threw the box over and turned back around walking back to Alexandria not caring about the protests behind you.

Hurt💔
Summary: Y/n goes out looking for some supplies she secretly needs, once she finds out she’s pregnant she has a hard time figuring out what to do until Daryl finds out and things don’t go as planned
•Masterlist•
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I haven’t been feeling well lately and we just got to the farm, I thought maybe it was just the food here but then I started throwing up and knew something wasn’t right
“Okay guys I’m gonna head out in a run does anyone wanna come?” Glenn asked as we were all sat around having breakfast
“I’ll come, I gotta pick up some things” I said as I sat my plate down and got my machete
“Hey are yer sure ya need to go?” Daryl asked as he pulled me aside
“Ya it’ll be quick plus I’m with Glenn I’ll be fine” I smiled as I gave him a quick kiss
“Just be careful” I said as he brushed my hair back
“I will I promise!” I laughed and ran to meet up with Glenn
“You ready?” He asked as he got on his horse
“Yup let’s go, and make this quick cause Daryl wants me back” I said jumping on another horse and we ran off
Finally we made it to the near by town and slowed
“He’s different with you, it’s sweet” he smiled
“I really do love him, I’m glad he opened up for me, I never thought I could love someone so much” I blushed
“I’m glad he found you, he was miserable before you came to the quarry, I swear he fell in love with you the instant he saw you”
“Oh stop you’re just saying that”
“No I swear I could see the way he looked at you and told Merle off when he’d make comments about you” he said as he dismounted his horse and I was quick to follow, walking into the pharmacy
“He’s such an amazing man, I don’t know what I’d do without him, I just hope nothing changes”
We walked down the aisle picking up some necessities and I finally found the pregnancy test and tried to discretely put it in my bag
“Wow is that a pregnancy test? Are you pregnant” I heard Glenn behind me
“Glenn I don’t know that’s why I’m getting the test, please don’t say anything until I know” I pleaded
“I won’t, but what if you are?”
“I don’t know I mean….it would be a dream to have a little Daryl but I just don’t know if he’ll want a baby in this world” I said imagining his face when I tell him, well that is if I am pregnant
“Well, go test it, better to do it now than wait” he said pointing to the bathrooms
I sighed and nodded as I walked over, walking into the ladies washroom and taking the test out of the book
~~~~~~~~~
5 minutes have past and it was time to check
“Glenn!” I called out and he came running in
“Have you checked?”
“No I don’t know if I can check Im too nervous” I said as I felt my heart beat in my chest
“We can do it together” he smiled as he kneeled in front of me and held my hands that held the test
“Okay” I breathed out as he flipped the test
“Positive, y/n you’re pregnant” he smiled at me
I was shocked I didn’t know what to say, I was happy to have a baby with Daryl but already scared for my baby in this world
“Hey it’ll be okay, you have us, and I know Daryl will be happy, it’s you, he adores you, now let’s go home”
We packed up our things and rode back to the farm, as we approached I saw Daryl and Maggie standing at the end of the drive way waiting for us
I felt the butterflies explode in my belly just from looking at him, just like the first time
“Hey my love! I missed you!” I smiled as I slowly got off my horse as he held my waist and helped me down
Maggie took my horse and her and Glenn brought them to the stable as me and Daryl made our way up the drive way back to the others
“So did ya get what ya needed?” He asked
“Yes there’s actually something I need to talk to you about” I said fiddling with my hands which he noticed
“Did somethin happen? Are ya bite?” He asked concerned as he started looking all over me
“No my love, come let’s sit and I’ll tell you” I said as I took his hand and led him to an old fallen tree
“I’ve been feeling sick lately and thought maybe it was just the food maybe but then I started throwing up and things lined up with the last time we were….together” he wasn’t showing any emotions at all so I couldn’t tell what he was thinking
“So then when we went to the pharmacy I took a test and well…..” I took out the test from my pocket and handed it to him
He was silent for a long time and it was breaking my heart
“I’m sorry, I know this isn’t ideal” I said which made him look at him and he had tears in his eyes
“Don’t apologize, I can’t believe I’m gonna be a dad” he smiled as he held my hand
“I know it’s gonna be hard but….I couldn’t ask for a better person to have a baby with, to have a little Daryl run around just warms my heart, to see you rock them to sleep to play with them, it makes me happy, I’m just nervous”
“Don tell the others but…I’ve dreamed about havin a family with ya, yer the only one I’ve ever wanted and loved, we can do this together” he said as he pulled me into a kiss, I loved that I was the only one to see this side of him
“I love you daryl”
“I love ya too my Peach” he smiled that smile that was just for me
~1 week later~
I was laying in our tent with Daryl holding me close since it was early in the morning
“We should probably tell the others, they’ll be wondering why you won’t let me do anything and I’m sure Glenn isn’t going to keep this a secret much longer” I said as I rubbed his chest
“Ya yer right, we can do it during breakfast” he said as he got up and pulled on his clothes
We had moved our tent next to the others when we found out I was pregnant, he wanted the extra protection for me
I stood up and hauled on a pair of sweat pants and one of his flannels
We walked out and sat around with the others as Glenn fried some eggs over the fire
“So we have something to tell you guys” I said bringing all the attention onto me
“What is it dear?” Carol asked with a sweet smile, she always treated me so kindly, I think it’s mostly because I made Daryl happy
“Well….. I’m pregnant” I said and there was a pause like the world stopped
“Congrats, you’re going to be an amazing mother, and you’re gonna be a great dad Daryl” Carol said as she came and gave both of us hugs
“Thank you Carol!”
“I don’t think hershel is gonna be very happy about this, an extra mouth to feed” Andrea said
My heart dropped and the tears welled in my eyes, it hurt and my hormones were making everything ten times more emotional
Daryl rubbed my back trying to calm me down so I laid my head on his shoulder
“I didn’t mean to become pregnant, but I’m happy”
“Doesn’t change the fact it’ll be a burden”
“Shut yer damn mouth” Daryl said getting angry
“Wow calm down I’m just sayin” she said trying to act innocent even though everyone was glaring at her
“Don’t listen to her dear, this baby is pure love, don’t ever thing this baby isn’t a blessing” dale said as he handed me a plate of toast of eggs
“Thanks dale, I’m more than happy to have this baby” I said as I hand Daryl a piece of my bread
“Nah ya keep that, we gotta get ya nice and plump for the baby” he said making me laughing
“Okay what ever you say sir”
After we finished eating he got ready to go look for Sophia
“Please be careful my love” I said as I handed him his bow
“I’ll be back before dark peach, just hang around Glenn for the day, maybe he’ll help keep yer mind off of me”
“But I want to have you on my mind” I smiled as he pulled me in by my hips
“Don’t stress please, I’ll be back before ya know it” he smiled as he kissed me then pulled himself up onto the horse
“I love you”
“I love you both too peach” he smiled and rode off
Both….my heart felt so full, he just left but I want him back right now, he was going out alone sure he was amazing out in the woods but still I was scared I couldn’t ever lose him
“It’s too dangerous! There’s so much that could go wrong!” Your voice was strained and nearing its breaking point. It felt like you had been fighting for days at this point, neither of you willing to back down and admit that you were wrong.
Rick ran a hand through his silvery hair and breathed out a heavy sigh of frustration. “It’s the best plan we have but you’re right, it is too dangerous. So tell me, what great idea do you have that will save us all?” He asked sarcastically.
“Don’t you fucking dare. You know that this is a bad idea too. You’re gonna get all of us killed!” Your eyes burned with tears but you wouldn’t cry, you couldn’t let him think that he got to you.
“At least I’m actually doing something to try and keep us safe.” He spat. Your entire body seized and Rick’s eyes widened. “Darlin-“
You held up your hand, stopping him in his tracks. “I have followed you for years Rick. We’ve survived so much together. I trust you with my whole being but this, this is something that I can’t stand behind. What if the explosives don’t go off in time? What if the bridge doesn’t fall? You’re running into this whole thing blindly and it’s gonna backfire!” You were begging him to listen for once, you needed him and he was ready to kill himself over a plan that you knew would fail.
“What happens if you die? What am I going to do without you? Judith needs you, I need you. Please Rick, we've already lost too much.” You looked at Rick’s old sheriff hat which sat proudly on the mantle in your home. Your husband deliberately looked away, taking a step back.
“Don’t try to tell me what’s at stake. I’m doing this for you! I’m keeping you and Judith safe. I couldn’t-“ He choked on his words for just a moment before he swallowed thickly. “-I couldn’t save Carl but I can do something to save you now. I’ll be back by nightfall.” And before you knew it, his gun was gone from the side table and the door slammed shut behind him.
——————
Judith had been fussy all day- refusing to go down for a nap, throwing her food, even hitting you when you attempted to sooth her. It drove you both to tears and made you feel physically sick. You knew she wanted her dad but she was just too little to understand why he wasn’t there.
Eventually, exhaustion won out and she fell asleep in the bed both you and your husband shared, her little blonde eyebrows scrunched in anger. You tucked a small blanket around her and laid a soft kiss to her forehead. “He’ll be home soon baby, I promise.”
As the sun began to get lower in the sky, your anxiety grew. You busied yourself with chores that had been long put-off, trying desperately not to think of your husband and the horde of walkers he would be facing. But no matter how hard you tried, your mind was fixated on one thing.
No matter the circumstances or how long you two would be apart, Rick always kissed you goodbye. He would always tell you that he loved you like it was the last time he would ever say it. But today, he just left and you didn’t stop him.
The roar of the motorbike drew you from your thoughts. It was well past midnight now but you sighed in relief. You didn’t care about the fight anymore, you just wanted Rick home. Abandoning the laundry you had folded more than three times, you approached the front door just as it swung open.
Daryl stood alone in the doorway, unable to meet your gaze. “Where’s-“ You couldn’t even get the question out before he shook his head, his dark hair falling in front of his face. “Daryl.” Your voice cracked, just the same as your heart.
“He said ta tell ya tha’ he loved ya.” Your ears rung as you collapsed to your knees, shock making your body numb. Vaguely, you could feel Daryl’s hands on your shoulders, attempting to shake you out of it, but you were lost.
He was gone. The love of your life was gone and the last thing you ever did was fight with him. When was the last time you told him that you loved him? He would never know how much you regretted fighting with him. He would never see Judith grow. He would never know-
You were fighting for air, barely able to fill your lungs as your mind spiralled. You could see the way that your friend’s lips moved as he desperately tried to speak to you, but you could hear nothing. Black dots littered your vision, quickly getting larger until the blackness consumed you.
——————
“Mama.” A tiny voice cooed as a little hand pushed against your face. You groaned and tried to roll over but the overzealous toddler followed you.
“Rick, could you get Judith?” The floorboards creaked and then her weight was lifted off of you as Judith squealed. “Thank you.” You stretched out on the mattress, savouring the early morning sunlight on your skin.
“Derl! Derl!” She excitedly yelled. Confused, you forced your eyes open. You were briefly blinded by the brightness of the room before your vision adjusted and you were met with the sight of your dearest friend, holding his niece close to his chest, his blue eyes firmly fixed on you.
Your mind was blank for a moment before last night’s events came rushing back to you. Tears rolled down your cheeks and Daryl panicked. “He’s really gone?” He nodded solemnly, his arms squeezing Judith even tighter.
“‘M sorry. I tried ta stop ‘im.” You waved him off, instead sitting up in the now painfully empty bed.
“I need Judith, please.” Immediately, she was thrust against your chest, Daryl stepped away like you were a wild animal ready to pounce. Your daughter settled easily, her chubby hands curling into your shirt as she laid her head on your collarbone. She breathed out a contented sigh, going limp in your hold.
You wiped away the tears from your face before they could fall into her hair. “You can go. I need to be alone for a while.” His jaw clenched tightly.
“Let me get ya some food. Ya need it for the little one.” But he wasn’t looking at Judith. He left the room quietly but not without dropping his bandana in your open hand, and walked mournfully to the kitchen.
You kissed Judith on her temple and leaned against the headboard, letting the tears fall silently. Rick would never know the child growing steadily in your womb.
That was already bordering on the absurd. You are lying on your bed, your back against the headboard, you have a book in your hands, you are wearing a comfortable nightgown and your belly is huge. Really; huge. You don't know what the hell you're carrying, but it's certainly not a baby. But that's not the worst of it. The worst of it is Daryl.
The man hasn't left your side the entire time. Maybe it sounds idiotic of you, but he's not doing it in a loving or cute way, he's more like a jailer, sitting next to you the whole time, eyes fixed on your bulging belly, as if he has x-rays and can see through you to the baby's condition. You've tried talking to him a hundred different ways, but he just ignores you.
He's still angry with you, hurt, knowing you were pregnant, that you could an abort still weighs on his shoulders. You have tried to apologize, but nothing you say to him seems to calm his state.
This morning you wake up feeling a light caress on your belly, you slowly open your eyes feeling Daryl's body right behind yours, wrapping an arm around your waist, his hand resting on your bulging belly, you can't help but smile because the fetus moves looking for the warmth that Daryl provides. With gentle movements you pull up your nightgown to watch your belly move each time your baby does. Daryl, behind your body, moves up a little to see it too. One of your side marks the baby's little foot and the archer slides his hand into position, you grimace, some parts are more sensitive than others and sometimes it hits a little too pointedly.
"I have to go to the bathroom..." You say feeling like you're breaking the moment.
"Let me help ya." Daryl gets out of bed and carefully helps you do the same.
"Daryl, really, it's just a pregnancy and I'm already due, nothing is going to happen because I'm going to the bathroom by myself..." You try to talk some sense into him, but he just gives you an intense stare. "Fine, have it your way." You sigh giving up, going to the bathroom, feeling his presence on the other side while you go about your business.
"Denise still hasn't told us what it is..." You suddenly hear the hunter's voice.
A conversation, good, that's good.
"I think she's waiting to hold it." You're trying to joke when you feel a sharp prick. You grimace, but slowly sit up from the toilet.
"Dunno she'll be the first to hold it." You hear him say and a chuckle escapes you.
"Are you going to help me?" you try to provoke him, but again an intense prickling runs through you. "Uh..."
"Yer okay?" Daryl's voice is agitated and he peeks through the bathroom door.
"Yeah, it's contractions..." You explain and he frowns.
"How often yer havin' them?"
"A little... they started when I got up."
"Okay, let's go to the room again, I'll go get Denise." He tells you and grabs your hand to help you.
"Oh, God!" you groan as the pain increases and you bend forward. "I-I think it's coming..." You whisper looking up at him in fright.
"Okay, relax, it's gonna be okay." He promises you, tugging on your hand, insisting you walk. "I'm gonna go downstairs for a moment, okay? I need someone to go to the infirmary..."
"I'm fine, you can..." You gasp again and squeeze his hand.
"I'm ain't moving from here." He assures you and guides you to the window where you lean against. "Take a deep breath, I'll be right back."
Daryl hurries down the stairs, so much so that his footsteps echo like a troop, skips the last few steps and looks in all the rooms in search of someone inside the house. He curses under his breath, with all the people who are living there and now there is no one. It is a cruel irony. He chews his lip, nervously, in his mind searching for a plan that won't force him to go too far away. A whimper in the room gives him goosebumps, he wants to come upstairs to be with you, but you need medical help.
The door opens then, Daryl's heart flips at the sight of his companions, they are carrying some food to restock in the house and their faces change at the sight of him so nervous.
"Daryl, what's wrong?" asks Rick.
"Her water broke, I need Denise." He explains in a bark.
Michonne and Rick look at each other, Tara who goes with them drops the box from between her hands on the table and speeds out of the house, Carol and Michonne quickly go upstairs to help you, Daryl pretends to follow them, but Rick grabs his arm to stop him.
"It's better for us to stay here bro, it can get really weird up there."
"No, I..." He stirs nervously and lets go. "I put it there." He says feeling the tips of his ears redden. "I want to be with her."
"Okay, but try not to make her too nervous and listen to what the girls tell you." He advises him before Daryl runs off towards the stairs.
As he approaches your room he hears the commotion his friends are organizing, he hears them talking to you at the same time as they keep moving around the room. Daryl feels his heart in his ears, he is nervous and scared, the pregnancy has gone well, but what if everything falls apart now?
"God, Daryl I hate you!" you shout from the other side of the door and the hunter instinctively recoils.
"Easy, easy, take a deep breath, you're doing great." Carol's voice is heard. "Try to walk a little, you need to dilate by the time Denise gets here."
Again Daryl hesitates, what exactly is he doing up there, what exactly does he think he's going to be able to help you with? In all those months he's been by your side, watching you like a dog watching a cat, he hasn't moved an inch, he hasn't let you exert yourself any more than necessary, but now, now it's not up to him. He can't help you to make the process go faster, to make you suffer less, in that new world where medical comforts are scarce, his hands on your belly to calm the baby will no longer be of any use. He swallows hard, his fingers trembling against the wood of the door. He closes his eyes when he hears you moan again and shakes his head.
No, he's not going to put you through this by yourself.
He enters the room discovering you leaning against the window frame, panting and snaping loudly through your mouth, one of your hands clutching your belly, your knees shaking and your forehead is beading with sweat. Daryl swallows walking towards you, Carol steps aside to help Michonne, he takes his place next to you, stroking your back, taking the hand that held your belly. You look up between scared and relieved, he smiles trying to calm you down.
"I'm here, Denise is about to arrive." He assures you, his hand rubbing your back wanting to comfort you.
"It hurts so much, Daryl..." You groan, gritting your teeth. "If I don't..."
"Shut up, that's ain't gonna happen." He shushes you. "Let's walk around a bit, ya need to dilate." He doesn't even know where those words are coming from, but he feels his face burning.
"Daryl, listen to me..."
"I said no!" He barks. "Nothing is gonn happen to ya or the baby...please..." He gasps nervously, leaning his forehead against yours.
"Okay..." You whisper feeling the fear coursing through the man's body.
Nothing happens to you, as Daryl has promised you. The labor is long, painful, but you are both fine. Daryl has not left your side at any time. He has helped you through the whole process, even with Denise there, he has been your nurse, he has even dared to look under your nightgown before the doctor arrived.
Now the loud crying of your baby girl floods the whole room, you feel exhausted, physically and mentally, but the baby's wailing quickens your heart in a way you never thought possible. You've always heard about the miracle of motherhood, the bond that forms, you've never doubted it, but you certainly never thought it could be so powerful. As the tears cease to cover your vision, Daryl rocks your baby in his arms, wrapped in a clean towel, her crying has ceased a little, turning to soft babbling. The hunter walks up to you, there is a smile on his mouth and tears in his eyes as well.
"She's healthy and beautiful." He whispers as if he's afraid to scare her with his voice. You laugh and reach out your arms wanting to hold her.
Daryl sits down next to you to let the baby girl in your arms, she stirs a little, but accepts the change, the rest leave you both alone, you pull down your nightgown letting the baby feed for the first time. The archer doesn't take his eyes off every move you make.
****************
You leave the house feeling the heat hit your skin, your long dress of soft fabric relieves the suffocating feeling of summer. A smile forms on your mouth when you hear the squeaks coming from your little girl, who is playing with Dog near the garage where her father is fixing his bike for an upcoming outing.
Things haven't changed much, to your regret, Daryl is still setting boundaries with you, his love is completely invested in your daughter, but you are the woman who kept something so important from him, and he still hasn't gotten over it.
Even though Erin is already two years old.
It's been more than two years since you've had a conversation that doesn't focus on the girl's health, or related to a patrol, a changing of the guard, or the distribution of supplies. It's been over two years since you've spent time together, as a couple, over two years since Daryl decided to move into the basement of the house, leaving only to care for his daughter. He hasn't missed a single day, but you feel sadness when you think about it.
"You're leaving again?" You greet him by walking up to his position, he looks up from the bike to grunt something intelligible that can be deciphered as a 'yes'.
"I'm going out with Erin." He remarks to you matter-of-factly, adjusting a backpack on the back of the bike.
"With Erin? Where? Why?" you ask confused and worried. You know Daryl would never act behind your back, if something happened to the girl, he'd talk it over with you first.
"I'm going to Hilltop, to see Maggie and Glenn, I want Erin to meet Hershel." He shrugs.
"Daryl... How long are you going to keep this up?" you sigh not knowing how to confront him. "I already asked for your forgiveness..."
"It's not about asking, sorry." He gets up from the ground, leaving the rag on the bike. "I trusted ya, more than anyone else, more than a partner, ya know that's hard for me..."
"I didn't mean to keep it from you, I just needed to find the right way to tell you. I was afraid..."
"Ya really think I would have left ya when I found out ya were pregnant? Since when do ya think I'm that kind of person?"
"For the love... I don't think you are like that, Daryl, I never thought so, but this world is in chaos, children are vulnerable..."
"Y'know me so little?" He says with disappointment. "Yes, it's possible I would have freaked out a little and may have said things I didn't feel at the time." He bites his lip and scratches the back of his neck. "But it's ya, it was us..." You lower your head feeling your stomach clench at his words.
"I didn't mean to hurt you..."
"What would have happened if you had lost the baby?" he asks suddenly and you look at him in surprise. "You would never have told me?"
You stammer not knowing what to say, not sure what Daryl really wants to hear. He nods and walks towards you, but still keeps his distance.
"I will not destroy Erin's innocence or happiness, she is our daughter, I will protect her with my life, I will not let her lose her mother." He assures you and the lump in your throat grows heavier. "But now I can't... I need to get away..." He sighs, lowering his gaze. "I need to trust again..."
"Okay..." You whisper lowering your head, feeling your eyes fill with tears.
"I'm going to get a car ready, we'll go more comfortably the three of us." He says and dodges your body to drive away down the community street.
**************
You give him his space, you allow him that time to himself that he needs. You don't quite know if it's the right thing to do, if you should have talked, but on the other hand Daryl has already said everything he felt.
Erin is still his main concern and care. Everything Daryl does, is for the little girl, she is thrilled and you like him spoiling her too, but maybe he should check with you about some things.
"Can we talk?" You intercept him in the hallway of the house.
"I'm busy..."
"It's about Erin." You hush him and he pauses, looking at you. "I think we should set some boundaries." Daryl frowns. "I love the relationship you two have, but you can't just bring her a present every time you come back from patrol..."
"Why not?"
"Because it's becoming a habit, and she's still little, we can mold her personality, But what about the day she just waits on you for the gift you're going to bring her?" You try to talk some sense into him and Daryl grunts low, looking down at his feet.
"Erin adores you, but those gifts may end up forming a personality that we don't know how to control...plus Dog..."
"What's with the dog?"
"Nothing! But after that I think it's impossible to get over it." You smile trying to calm him down and you see his shoulders relax, nodding. "It's our daughter and I don't want to be just me being the bad guy in this... I'd like you to support me..."
"Okay..." he nods again chewing his lip.
"Okay... thanks for listening to me, I'll leave you to whatever you were doing." You wave goodbye heading for the exit again.
"Wait." He calls out to you walking towards you again. "I have some errands Rick asked me to go get." He looks at you through his locks of hair.
"Don't worry, I'll tell Erin you'll be back in the evening."
"Ya wanna come with me?"
You look at him with surprise, of everything he could possibly want to say to you, it was the thing you least expected. You stammer looking for something to say when you see him shrug.
"Carol's watching Erin, I asked her earlier to keep an eye on her."
"...Okay, let's go." You nod smiling a little, following Daryl to his bike.
This situation is not easy for him either. He knows that he himself has provoked it, that he needed some time to think, but perhaps his stubbornness has gone too far, however, every time he remembered that patrol, that he could have lost you, his blood boiled and he was not able to think properly. Erin was your bond, your bridge, what still held you together. Daryl knows that his feelings for you haven't gone away, nor will they, they have just letharged inside his heart, healing from his wounds little by little. He loved watching you take care of your little girl, how you spent sleepless nights when colic kept her awake, how you rocked her in your arms whispering songs Daryl didn't know, how you cursed, without malice, when she began to grow and started teething.
"Auh! You're just like your father." He heard you say one day when he came back from helping Rick with the Alexandria expansion. "Always with the teeth..." That was enough to stop him in his tracks, face red to the tips of his ears and give you some more privacy until Erin finished eating.
You've had the patience to put up with those years the distance he's felt you should have, the boundary he needed, now you've asked him to be a little firmer with Erin and he understands. He understands that it can be a problem in the long run and he doesn't want to spoil the girl either, it's a difficult world far from being able to have any kind of whim and he doesn't want the little girl to believe that she can get everything she asks her father for. At least not whims. By the time you've finished and accepted that he had nothing more to add, Daryl has realized that he's losing you too. That the barrier he's building is getting too high and he doesn't want that to happen.
That's why he's asked you to go with him again, he needs to find that connection that brought you together.
Daryl feels your arms around his waist as you get on the bike to leave the community. His breath catches for a second in his throat, but he disguises it as best he can.
"Are you ready?" He asks you over the noise of the engine.
"Yes, anytime." You grant him and he starts up, your hands tighten a little tighter around him and he bites his lip.
He remembers the first time you rode his bike, it may sound absurd, but it was purely for fun. In fact he found you on Merle's bike, parked in the prison yard. According to your explanation you wanted to check if it was comfortable, as the handlebars seemed too high in proportion to the rest of the vehicle. Daryl joked amused and gave you a little lesson on motorcycles.
He has to admit that when he saw you on his brother's bike, your arms stretched over the handlebars, your body settled on the seat, your legs spread and bent, your feet firmly on both sides of the vehicle, he didn't feel like yelling, to scold you for touching his stuff without his consent. He liked seeing you there, it seemed to fit you well, even though you had no idea how to drive.
"Wanna go for a ride?" he offered making you look at him with raised eyebrows.
"But I don't know how to drive..."
"I'll teach ya, step aside." He asked you pointing to the bike.
Daryl smiles remembering the surprised look on your face, how you awkwardly made room for him behind you on the bike, he settled in pointing out what everything on the bike was for, his chest pressed against your back. It was the first time you'd been so close together since the group ran out of the CDC.
"Clutch, brake, throttle and shifter." He said giving you a gentle tap on your foot. "We'll leave the gear shift for the time being, we don't need to go very fast and this way we won't attract the attention of the dead."
"Okay..." You whispered squeezing the bike's brake by instinct to keep your balance.
"Ya wanna go out and road test it?" he offered once again feeling you tremble against his body.
A lot has changed now, you still don't trust the bikes too much, Daryl knows that, but riding with him you feel safe, secure, you hug his waist like a life preserver and enjoy the ride glued to his body. Daryl missed that too, he's surprised at how easy it was to talk to you, how your relationship slowly developed and now he seems to be back to square one. He frowns tightening his fists on the handlebars of the vehicle. He's not an idiot, he's not going to lose all that because of his stubbornness, you and Erin are his family. The one he has chosen, where he belongs.
The engine slowly stops until you finally come to a complete stop, Daryl rests his feet on the ground and lets you get out first before he does the same. You stand to the side waiting for his orders, you don't know exactly where or what to look for, so you wait for him to say something. However, when he looks back up at you his arms come around you and wrap around you, pulling you tight against his body, hiding his face in your neck.
"I'm sorry..." He whispers and your eyes fill with tears, hugging him too.
"No, you don't have to apologize... I should have..."
"It's okay, that doesn't matter anymore." He breaks the hug and his thumbs brush your cheeks. "I've been too stubborn, but aib't wanna lose ya or Erin..."
"You're not going to, Daryl, that's never going to happen." You assure him and dare to move closer to kiss him.
There is a moment of hesitation, but the two of you kiss intensely. After so long sharing scant contact, that kiss overwhelms you both. You gasp, kissing hungrily, Daryl's fingers tangling in your hair and you cling tighter to his waist, pressing your bodies together until you almost melt against each other.
You had missed each other.
**
When you return to Alexandria the aura around you both is different, everyone sees it and feels it when you pass by. You've gotten everything on Rick's list, you've let off some adrenaline fighting a small group of Walkers and you've found each other again, it's been a most productive morning and now you just want to get home to your daughter.
Erin smiles and jumps out of Carol's arms when she sees you, she is still small and stumbles over her own feet but nothing stops her from reaching for your arms. You laugh lifting her off the ground to kiss her cheek, Daryl hugs you both, kissing the little girl's head.
"Let's go home." Daryl whispers in your ear, his fingers caressing Dog's head as well.
That night your bed is full again, Erin sleeps with you, cuddled in your arm, Daryl has you snuggled between his, wrapping his arms and legs around your body, one hand resting on Erin's small body, making sure she's there. Dog has made a hole for himself at the foot of the bed, though he's not allowed to sleep there. But no matter.
A night is a night.
The End.
daryl x f!reader pregnancy trope pls :,)
Hey thanks for the request it was quite fun to write. I don't know if this is what you meant exactly but it's okay.
Secrets
When you found out you didn't immediately tell Daryl you felt terrible about not telling him, but you thought that he'd be mad at you and then end up leaving you a single mother
Later on in the day Rick and Daryl were going to go  on a supply run, to keep things somewhat normal you offered to go which they gladly accepted
Unsurprisingly the minute you stepped foot into the truck maggie came out of nowhere and called out to you, “you can't go! not yet it's too much of a risk”
Daryl just scoffed behind you ”course she can go ain't nothing wrong with her” he tugged at your hand signalling it was time to leave
“I think  you should tell him y/n” you heard Daryl's breath hitch and could feel his eyes burning holes into your head “what she talkin’ about?”
You looked at Daryl and lightly smiled at him, you gently took his hand and yours and led the two of you to your shared house at the side of the camp
“So what is it?” you could see him getting more and more impatient the longer you stood there and stared at the ground playing with your fingers
“Hey ya can tell me anything y’know?” he lifted your chin his icy blue eyes meeting yours, you nodded lightly
“I'm pregnant” the minute the words left your mouth Daryl froze
His freezing put your mind into overdrive and you took a step back “look, Daryl, I  understand if you want to leave, I know it's probably a bad time to get pregnant and I totally understand if you're not ready for kids” you looked down and headed for the door of your house
Nearly out of the house you felt large arms wrap themselves around your waist, without a moment to waste Daryl buried his head in the crook of your neck leaving light kisses scattered over the delicate skin
“I love you” he whispered, his sudden confession shocked you. In all your time knowing the younger Dixon had never said it to you and that in itself filled your heart with the warmth that you knew only Daryl could give you.
You turned around and let your arms rest on his shoulders, his hands still firmly placed on your hips, he leaned in and kissed you. You accepted it happily. He pulled back, a pink blush coating his cheeks, “why didn't you tell me sooner I could've helped  you”
You rested your head on his chest tired from today's events “I didn't want to scare you away”
He lifted his hand and flicked you on the side of your head showing his annoyance with your statement “you ain't scaring me away any time soon, yeah it gonna be a bit weird having a mini us running about but as long as I'm with you it's gonna be alright”
“Ugh why you gotta be so perfect” you groaned
“Oh darlin’ I'm really not but if you want to go through with having the baby then I want you to know I'm gonna be here for you” you simply smiled at him and kissed his cheek.
Him
He couldn’t help but laugh when she dramatically flopped back onto the bed and sighed, “Ugh, I’m so tired!”
And as soon as he did crack up, she was quick to toss back, “Daryl darling, are you teasing me?”
But the pout she was giving him wasn’t serious, a fact proven by her wink as she flipped onto her stomach.
“Oof, apologies, my sweet,” she exclaimed before readjusting so she wasn’t directly on her stomach. “Can’t lay like that anymore, I suppose.”
“Y’okay?” he quickly checked, forgetting all about buttoning his shirt back up to jog over and kneel beside the bed.
“We’re fabulous, don’t you worry.” She hummed and gave him a look he’d very happily grown familiar with. “You’re so sexy when you get all concerned about us,” she purred, and reached out to lightly drag her fingers through his hair to pull him close.
Yeah, that was another thing about her being five months along.
Her own exact words regarding it were: “Lordy, every time I look at you, I want to yank your jeans down, mount you, and have at it.”
His cheeks got all warm as he remembered that particular afternoon. Both because he was currently (rapidly) getting in the mood as he felt her kissing his neck, but also because of the memory itself.
She’d accidentally said that—yes, that, the whole quote, word-for-word—right in earshot of most of the group.
Tara and Glenn were fucking rolling, and he’d never seen Abraham get so red as he wheezed alongside Carol and Rick. Even the reverend guy—sorry, ‘Father Gabriel’—coughed awkwardly to try and hide his laughter from his spot in the corner.
Then Carl had come downstairs wanting to know what was so funny, and for some reason, Eugene had actually started to repeat the damn thing.
Luckily, Michonne spoke up louder, wiping her eyes as she told Carl that “Y/N was being funny about her hormonal changes.”
“You know how I have a flair for the theatric, sweet boy,” she’d told the kid with a wave of her hand and a shrug of her shoulders, even while covering her eyes in embarrassment and trying not to giggle.
Meanwhile in real time, his wife was very effectively getting ready for another round.
He wasn’t complaining.
By then on top of him, she breathed into his ear, “Don’t worry, handsome, I won’t keep you too long.”
His hands were on her beautiful curves, savoring every inch. “Keep me all day, gorgeous, I won’t mind,” he managed to murmur back.
She hummed. Tossed her hair in that confident way he loved so much, and gave him a wicked little smile that turned him on like nothing else. “I was hoping you’d say that.”
You
He’s always so tender afterward. Even after you two ‘have fun’ in a less-than-tender place.
Mmm, like when you’d done it against the back wall of the house that time...or the other time...or that time in the garage on the work bench...or that time on his bike behind the building during that supply run...or the other time...or when...
Lordy, you had no idea how wildly randy you’d be at this point in your pregnancy. Granted, you’d been pregnant just about as long as you two have been physical. Honeymoon baby. When Maggie had correctly guessed the news, she’d playfully lauded your efficiency.
Anyway, for the past several weeks, you swear it’s as if you’re insatiable! In your defense, Denise said it’s entirely normal at this stage.
And, in your defense, your husband is exceedingly sexy, truly a work of art.
The thing that knocks your socks off is the fact that he’s only been at this for five months. He was a remarkable student. And just so...attentive. Generous, you might add.
And it’s so deliciously sweet that whenever you try to praise him about it, he shakes his head and mumbles that “You’re the one who showed me the ropes.”
You gaze down at him sleepily as you lay in bed together. His bare back with his scars and tattoos is showing the rise and fall of his breathing. His legs are barely covered by the sheet, likewise that stunning behind of his. And those strong arms you love to look at so much are draped around you.
You can’t get enough of this, how soft he becomes after. Pun not entirely intended...
And you’d be content to have him keep resting his head against your waist as you play with his messy, messy hair all day. His messy, sexy, rugged, masculine, even a little dirty hair—Lordy, you two only finished a several minutes ago and here you are gearing up again.
How can you be so exhausted and yet so ready to tumble again? You’d thought food cravings and some emotional ups and downs would be the standout of this adventure. Well, you certainly were mistaken.
Instead, you’re very tired and so very, very liable to get aroused.
So tired today, in fact, that you may even possibly, potentially, only maybe...
Oh, there’s no use in denying it: you’re too tired to go on the supply run today. Just thinking about it, you’re almost in tears at the idea of walking up all the steps and packing up boxes of books to lug back.
But you’re equally in near-tears at the thought that you won’t be doing so.
The supply run is to a library this time!
Well, it’s really to a fairly unpicked urgent care clinic abutting a dentistry office, but it’s a block away from a library! Your favorite place! And because you’re so thoroughly tired, all you want to do other than make out with your husband is read, which is just another reason you were so looking forward to going.
Worth a mention is that it’s high time this place had its book collection tended to.
C’est la vie, you suppose. This exhaustion is only temporary.
“What was that sigh for, gorgeous?” your hear him ask you softly as he kisses your stomach and finds your hand to take into his. You could feel the rumble of his voice reverberate through your body from where his lay pressed against yours.
“I’m just being a little dramatic. I’m not looking forward having to get up and put on clothes. Then, the thought of carrying of all those books back to the tru—”
“—Still can’t believe Denise ain’t barred you from doin’ stuff like that,” he grunts to himself, his hand now absently drawing lines on your thigh.
You gave an indignant hmph, then reminded him with a kiss on his head that “It’s considered safe because I’m not adding any strenuous new activities, only maintaining what my body is used to.” You take his hand into yours and bring it to your lips. “And I’m far enough along that it isn’t a big concern.”
Another kiss, then you rest his hand on your breast for safekeeping. “Plus, I’m not lifting as much as I used to,” you add.
His thumb begins to move gently back and forth over it. “And you've been real excited to get more books.”
“Have I ever. I miss my book collection so much. It was fabulous, Daryl.”
Among your collection, you’d had all of Austen, all of the Brönte sisters, all of L.M. Montgomery’s Anne of Green Gables, an original copy of ‘To Kill a Mockingbird,’ and only the fancy-bound variety of Shakespeare’s plays plus a signed (signed!) copy of “I Know Why the Caged Bird Sings.”
You especially miss the book your mom gifted to you. It was an Evelyn Stuart Hardy illustrated edition from the 1910s of Jane Eyre, your absolute favorite book in the world! It reminded you of her like nothing else...it had been her favorite book, and your granny’s, too.
You’d packed it up and kept it with you after the world fell. It was still with you after most everything else you’d had was stolen.
Until you’d ultimately had to burn it during the winter, when you were still alone.
Not a day later is when you’d run into Beth at the stream. That’s when she brought you to Daryl, and just like that, they brought you into the group. The rest is history, but how you kicked yourself for burning it.
Straightening your posture even while reclining, you push your shoulders back and remind yourself that you made a necessary decision. You’d needed the warmth.
“The shelves here are woefully understocked, darling, and there are plenty of houses to fill up,” you begin to tell Daryl. “I was saying to Deanna just the other day how perhaps we could transform one of the empty ones into an entertainment venue of sorts, keep morale up. Library on the top floor—very convenient if one wishes to browse the stacks with her very handsome, work-of-art husband in private,” you hint.
Does he realize what he’s doing as he rubs his thumb over your breast back and forth like that? Eyeing him, you continue. “A movie theater type room on the bottom or perhaps in the basement, a gaming room, a music room, an art room with supplies in the attic!” You’re getting excited again just picturing it! “Wouldn’t that be so fabulous?”
You hum at the thought, then look down to find him gazing at you with the most...“Daryl? Please don’t look so utterly in love with me, you know how your being in love with me turns me on. And I might mention what you’re doing with my nipple?”
Him
He couldn’t help but snort again—and he stopped doing that thing with his thumb, obviously.
“Your being in love with me turns me on.” Hell yeah he was in love with her, it was impossible not to be. Other than being entertaining as fuck, her confidence and endless optimism had its own gravitational pull, she was smart, caring, and—shit—so damn attractive. And she liked him! That was the craziest part of it.
He’d probably let himself fall for her ever since that time she’d kissed him on the cheek at the outdoor goods place a year or so back.
It was either then or when he’d finally seen her again, after Terminus. It was because of what she’d said that made him finally realize it.
The words hadn’t even been to him, they’d been to Carol. “Alright now, you. Get yourself over there and hug your best friend. He’s missed you.” Those words, weird as it might seem, that was what made him see it.
That realization had been scary enough, so just imagine how he felt next. Her first words to him were spoken softly, so only he could hear.
“Daryl Dixon, I would like to marry you someday.”
And then she’d kissed him as if there was nobody else there at all.
Yeah. He's just glad that sometime after finding the reverend guy—sorry, ‘Father Gabriel’— that he’d gotten brave enough to finally bring up what she’d said. As much as he hated himself at that point in time, he felt safe enough with her that he couldn’t not ask. There was too much risk of losing her again.
“Y’know that thing you said? Before you kissed me that time, Y/N?”
“Which time, handsome?”
His pulse had been going hog wild. “...When I finally saw ya again.”
She’d smiled through her exhaustion, so much like that first day he’d met her. Winked at him.
“That was a very nice one, I must admit.”
And that’s when her eyes grew wide as she’d remembered exactly what she’d said before she’d done so, as well as noticed that he was nervously looking back and forth from her to the reverend guy.
“Oh!”
The morning they’d woken up in the barn after surviving that hurricane was almost when they’d gotten hitched. Almost; Aaron had showed up, though, so it got pushed back only until the group decided to go to Alexandria.
At that decision, she saw no reason to wait any longer. Neither did he.
“It’s just a pity we’ll need to wait until I can lay you down and show you my ‘form and function,’” she’d lightly teased in his ear as she wiped her tears away, fully aware that that time might never actually happen.
For all they knew, their marriage could have been as short as only that day, depending on what lay ahead in that place.
But, turns out, Alexandria was safe. A good place.
So, two days in, she’d brought him to a bedroom in the quiet part of the house, and...showed him the ropes.
And now, he and she had a kid. Honeymoon baby. He was so fucking excited about it.
Denise said in a month or two is when he’d be able to finally feel them kicking around in there.
“So, you’re tryin’ to bring home just how many books today?” he asked Y/N, scooching up from his nook against her waist so he could hold her in his arms. “The whole damn library’s worth?” he teased.
“I would have endeavored to make a dent, perhaps.” Was it his imagination or did she sound disappointed?
“Would have?”
She pulled his arm around her tighter. “I’m just too tired, darling,” she admitted quietly. So that was why she was down.
He curved his body against hers and breathed in the smell of her hair. He didn’t like it when she was down, seemed unnatural. “It won’t be the last time we go.”
“Certainly not. Sasha, Olivia, and myself were calculating just how many trips we might need to take to get enough volumes. Final estimation was three.”
The way she announced that made him grin. “But you had your hopes on comin’ today,” he stated more than asked as he wove his fingers in between hers.
“I did. Libraries and auditoriums are my favorite places. And, it’s simply been a while since I’ve ventured outside the walls. Well,” she considered. “Other than to check on sweet little Enid, she’s quite the escape artist.”
“What kinds of books were you gonna bring back?” he wanted to know. Because he was fixing to bring back every dang one.
But he felt her make a shrug as if it were unimportant, and then she waved it off. “I made a list, it’s on the kitchen island or the coffee table, if I recall.” It was kinda cute that she thought she could fool him into not knowing when she was disappointed.
“What are some of the things on it?” he pressed, gently caressing her belly.
He felt her shrug again. “The useful parts of the reference and how-to sections, especially agricultural ones for Maggie. Oh, and you’ll notice a note regarding a pasta-making book for Shelly.”
She shook her head in amusement. “I appreciate generous helping of homemade linguini myself, so why she hasn’t simply made some by hand to enjoy is beyond me. You simply roll it out flat and slice it, easy as can be, no machine required.”
“That’s it?”
“That’s it.”
He moved back so she could turn and face him. “What else?” Come on, tell me what you want, gorgeous.
“Nothing, that’s all it takes to make homemade pasta.”
He grumbled only a little. “I meant the books, Y/N.”
She gave him another playful pout, then went on. “The teens and children here need some new reading material. Glenn will know which comic books are best, and he knows what Carl’s into. Oh, and our sweet Beth adored choose-you-own-adventures, so the kids will really enjoy those, if you find any.”
Fuck. He winced when she mentioned her name. That poor fucking girl. Losing her had been like losing Sophia all over again, but somehow worse because that time, it was undeniably his fau—
“—I can feel where your mind has gone, and as your wife would ask you to not think those things about yourself,” she told him firmly.
And after pressing a delicate kiss to his cheek and reminding him that she loved him, she resumed telling him more about the list.
“Tara could use one or two or several books on tape. She enjoys real histories, but reading is off limits until her concussion is healed more, so she was lamenting the other day. She’s bored to tears and going stir crazy.”
“I would be, too. Must suck.”
“There’s C.S. Lewis for Father Gabriel, ‘The Art of Peace’ for Morgan so he can have a backup copy. Carol and Rick enjoy Agatha Christie, Rick prefers her Poirot series. And Rosita has been very down, as you know, but she once mentioned a joke Fluffy told, so if the DVD section had any of Gabriel Iglesias’ stand-up specials, I was going to take them.”
Was Y/N gonna say what she wanted, though?
“And um,” She giggled and shook her head. “I was more of going to tease Eugene by taking him home an entire encyclopedia. Oh, and I just found out that Michonne is a fan of cozy mysteries, too! I thought she’d be more the Stephen King variety, but no.”
Okay, finally something Y/N was into: cozy mysteries. Cozy mysteries...um...“What are cozy mysteries?”
“They’re in the mystery section—”
“—Stop,” he snorted.
“In the mystery section, but you’ll know them by their absolutely fabulous titles. They’re all puns!”
Puns. Okay. Um… “W-what kind of puns?”
“I’ve read a lobster shack themed one with the title ‘Drawn and Buttered,’ and Scotland themed one called ‘Under Loch and Key,’ so on so forth.”
Huh. Interesting. He’d bring back some if he could find them, he guessed. Sounds kinda cute.
“Tell me about what you want.”
Believe it or not, she’d somehow managed to toss her hair while laying there, then angled herself to look at his face.
“I was, handsome.” She winked. “Though...”
You
You feel bad for relaying your list of things to Daryl as if he were a servant or as if you were a woman who thoughtlessly ordered her man about.
Maybe it’s your pride speaking, but having him search around for your favorite book(s) is a little too much for you to accept when you’re still so disappointed that you can’t go yourself.
You’re used to being very physically strong, so this stage of exhaustion is a change you’d prefer to ease into, rather than dive into. And you hypothesize that your beloved Jane Eyre would say the same.
“C’mon, let me bring you back at least one book. Just one, gorgeous?”
...You suppose you can mention your genre of choice, at least, especially when he’s asking so earnestly.
“If you bring me back a nice, clean historical romance, I won’t object. Please steer clear of the harlequin section, darling.”
“Done,” he’s quick to announce. Until he sounds confused as he repeats, “Harlequin?”
“The bodice rippers,” you clarify.
“Bodice-rippers.”
You smile, and twist your body so it’s once again flush to his, lay his hand on the spot where your neck and shoulder meet, then arch your back and stick our your chest to make a pose.
“The books covers look somewhat like this, only the woman would have a gown or nightdress on rather than be completely in the nude.” With a light peck to his jaw, you simply must mention next, “And the man on the cover won’t look nearly as delicious as you.”
Which is of course why you next hear “Daryl! Y/N!” called from the main floor.
Him
“We’re coming, Abe! Allow us a moment,” Y/N shouted back.
“Golly, don’t tell us exactly what you two are up to!” was the undeniable voice of Carol that echoed next through the house, as did a very loud blast of laughter from Abraham. What are they, thirteen?
At least his wife thought it was funny. She’d even clapped.
“We were discussing literature, you! Keep your minds out of the gutter!” Y/N cracked up as she called back.
So, he groaned and got himself off the bed, threw his clothes back on quickly, and helped her get hers on. She’d almost fallen back asleep when he was looking for her socks.
Denise said how tired she felt was normal, though, as was the...other thing she was experiencing.
He thought it was gonna be cravings and throwing up like women had on like TV and shit, but nah, just sore boobs and being sleepy in the beginning, and now real sleepy and real horny were how it was going for Y/N.
It was good she was gonna stay home today. He was getting more and more uncomfortable with the thought of her going outside the walls too far with or without him. After what happened to Noah on that supply run, he just...
But he didn’t want to seem controlling or over-protective, so he tried not to protest too much. And she was just so damned excited about the library run, how could he tell her he didn’t like her wanting to haul boxes of books around?
Well, he thanked whoever was up there that she was too tired today.
Plus, now he got to surprise her!
Because fuck yeah, he knew exactly what book he was gonna bring her. It didn’t hit him at first, but he knew the perfect one.
Like, obviously he was gonna grab all the books and stuff on that list, but first thing he was gonna find was that one.
He’d read it in high school. Loved it. Reread it. Reread it again.
Got a good-ass grade on a report about it, too. Did it again the following year, wrote a whole new report and got a good-ass grade on that as well!
He didn’t even realize it was considered a chick book until some asshole made fun of him for it.
Well, fuck that guy, ’cause that book was the shit. And it was an autobiography, the idiot.
And just because it was kinda romantic and the main character was a girl didn’t make it ‘just’ a chick book.
Nah: it was about a kid who wasn’t really loved or treated well, who grows up and tries to stay decent but doesn’t really know what she wants to do, only what’s been kinda laid out for her.
She’s got big balls, a backbone, and the story ends up being a mystery wrapped in a drama and all of it ties together because she makes peace with her family and discovers a new one, then makes one of her own!
Who wouldn’t like that shit?
And, okay, this is dumb, but it was also really funny how the writer used the word ‘ejaculated’ in like every damn chapter. Not one time did that word mean what that word usually means, either.
The first time he saw the word just chilling there in an otherwise normal book, he almost snarfed up the beer he’d snuck into school he was laughing so hard.
Anyway, it was called “Jane Eyre: An Autobiography” and it was fucking amazing. And because it’s set like way back when and there’s a love story without tits in it, that’s fits the criteria of a clean historical romance, right?
Y/N was gonna love it so damn much. He almost asked her if she’d read it already, but decided he’d make it a surprise. There was some fancy wrapping paper he’d seen in Eric and Aaron’s garage, so he was gonna wrap it up all nice, too.
Such a fucking good book.
You
Maggie was a doll and made you a cup of your favorite wild mint tea while you were in the midst of sniffling on the couch about the supply runners having left.
That poor, sweet boy Sam came over shortly thereafter, and you were going to play Mario Party with him like you’d promised, but ended up falling asleep again. You awoke on the couch to find Sam sitting by you, albeit on the floor, between the recliner and the wall, reading The Phantom Tollbooth.
“I read that one when I was your age! Please lend it to me when you’re finished, I’d adore to take that adventure again!” you gushed.
He’s coming out of his shell more and more, but it’s very slow-going. You suppose that with a father like his, it was only natural, even if the man was dead now.
But today, Sam was comfortable enough to smile and start to tell you about his favorite parts of the book, which was excellent.
What’s also excellent is that you falling asleep while he was there seemed to have encouraged Carol to make cookies for him. It was plain to see that she was trying to keep the boy at arm’s length.
She’s terrified of becoming attached to another child for whom she condemns herself inadequate to care for. Her wounds run deep, especially in terms of Sam; she sees parts of herself in his mother.
So, that she gave in and baked for him and didn’t immediately kick him out once you’d accidentally taken a nap was a good sign.
The cookies were fabulous, by the way, and with the mint tea, it made the chocolate (chocolate!) rations taste that much better.
After that, you went on wall duty so you’d be somewhat productive today.
Your official job assigned by Deanna was as a recruiter of sorts; ease newcomers into life here, and go with Aaron, Eric or Daryl when pertinent to talk to survivors.
Only thing was, you hadn’t gotten any new survivors yet, so wall duty and supply running and some babysitting was what filled your days.
But it is nice that yours and your husband’s jobs are connected. He recruits, you welcome.
“Say, sheriff, what time is it?” you called down when you saw Rick taking Judith for a walk.
He looked at his watch. “They’ll be back in about two hours, Y/N,” he let you know you with a smile.
The thought of waiting two more hours got you weepy again.
Although, maybe you could manage to squeeze in another nap after your shift was over.
Tumblr media
The place had like 7 copies of that book! Would it be a dick move to take all of them?
Fine, it would. Okay, he’d just take...four—no, three. He shouldn’t be greedy.
That new-looking one was a no-brainer, so that one was coming. Aw shit, and that one had a creepy cover. That one was his, he called dibs. And...shit, look at the really old one. Book people like old copies, don’t they? Aw shit, it’s got pictures in it, too? Damn, these are good-ass drawings.
This is the one. It’s perfect.
Once those were tucked away safely, Glenn helped him find all the other things on her list.
Meanwhile, the rest of the supply runners browsed for stuff like zip ties, tape, and toilet paper, and were getting very distracted by all the books and magazines. And since there weren’t that many walkers in there, it was a good time.
He even remembered the title of the other book he’d ever really liked. It was another he’d read in school, called ‘The Giver.’ He liked that one because the kid mans up big-time and saves the baby’s life. Carl would probably like it, so he packed that up, too.
Then, Glenn popped up from the books-on-tape and DVD section and held out what might have well been a gold bar. Turns out, the British made a whole damn TV series about Jane Eyre six-ish years ago, and this library had the box set.
“My baby sister loved this one. She was in the stage version of it in high school,” Glenn shared with him quietly. “It’ll be nice to watch it again, and Mags will enjoy it.” He coughed a little. What was that smirk for? “That is, if it won’t be intruding on you and Y/N’s private time.”
“Shut up.”
You
...zzz…zzz…zzz...zzz...
Him
It was fine, he could wait until morning. Unless she woke up and wanted a really late supper or something...?
...But Y/N was sleeping like a log.
He slumped his shoulders.
Denise insisted that his wife was fine, checked her blood pressure, all that. He’d been real worried, is all.
Y/N did give him a “Why hello there, Daryl darling” when Denise woke her up to check on her, but she went right back to sleep after, and very happily, by the looks of it.
He knew she needed the rest, but he was also bummed that she was asleep when he got back. Really disappointed, but it ain’t like it was her fault. She had their baby in there, that’s gotta take a lot out of somebody.
He looked at the wrapped present on the nightstand. Eric did him a solid by finding a bow for it.
Then he looked at the copy of Jane Eyre he’d decided to keep as his own, the one with the spooky cover.
And then he felt only moderately like a dick for being excited that he could crack it open and reread it without any interruptions.
Like a kid finding a toy they thought they’d lost, he opened it up, flipped to the first chapter.
Oh yeah, there was the good stuff: “There was no possibility of taking a walk that day.”
That’s right, no long walk for you today, Jane, you get a break. Don’t worry, kid, I remember: you don’t like long, chilly walks ’cause it makes your toes too cold. I don’t like cold toes, neither, that shit ain’t no fun. Just sucks that your dickhead cousin is about to fuck shit up. It’ll be okay, you’ll get out of there.
Okay, kid, let’s see if we can’t get you out of Gateshead by the time I need to hit the sack...
You
When you woke up at 2:32 a.m. and needed to use the facilities like nothing else, you only knew that your husband was asleep in his clothes beside you on the bed, and that he’d apparently borrowed your booklight.
This didn’t phase you, and you went about using the toilet, washing your hands and face, brushing your teeth, and primping your hair as you normally would before bed.
What you learned after you came back was that he’d fallen asleep reading (and had rolled onto the paperback slightly).
That hadn’t happened yet in all five months you’d shared a bed and all of the two years give or take that you’d known him. It was also quite alluring to you, to say the least, and you felt delighted to have found one more thing to love about him as you grabbed the glass of water on the nightstand and took a few gulps.
But what made your panties liable to fall off right then and there was that he’d fallen asleep while reading your favorite book.
Jane Eyre!
Still floored and frozen in place when his groggy “Hey” reaches your ears, you blink out of it, remember to swallow the gulp of water that you’d forgotten about in your shock, and smile back at him.
“Good evening, Daryl,” you are able to respond, returning your glass to the nightstand and crawling back onto the bed.
He’s got an arm around your waist in seconds and has his lips on yours right after. “How you feelin’, gorgeous?”
You make the executive decision to crawl onto his lap and straddle his hips rather than crawl to your side of the bed.
“I’m feeling fabulous.”
“You hungry? I can go grab food, there’s leftover—”
“—Stay here with me, sweet man.”
“Done.” It was dark, but you could see a lazy, shy grin light up his face nonetheless. “I, um, brought ya back somethin’.”
But before he could say or do anything else, you have to kiss him again. And a second time. Might as well do a third for good measure. And by  the third, you realize: he brought you ‘back’ something, not brought you ‘up’ something.
As in, he alluded to having brought something home, not to him having brought a snack upstairs earlier, as you initially thought he’d meant.
“You brought me back something from the supply run, you mean? Other than yourself alive and well?” you coo, nuzzling his neck, content to simply feel his heart beating against yours.
That explains that copy of Jane Eyre. How on earth he knew that was your favorite, you cannot fathom. Unless Carol remembered and told him at some point?
He must have been trying to read it before giving it to you so he’d be able to talk about it.
Your kisses get more frantic.
“Babe, hold up, let me grab the damn thing,” he giggles as you kiss that ticklish spot by his ear.
“It’s right here, handsome,” you let him know, intending to lean back and grab the book for him. That is, until he presents to you a lovely little wrapped gift with a bow on it.
What on earth?
Him
The surprised look on her face was reward enough, and she hadn’t even unwrapped it yet!
She looked almost bashful (Y/N, bashful! That in itself was something!) as she unseated herself from his lap and settled down beside him, taking the package and turning it over in her hands.
“I sense a book in here, I’m already thrilled,” she told him, and looked back into his eyes with that same surprised, almost kinda confused expression.
Finally, she began to unwrap it, so he was finally able to start telling her all about it.
“It’s this really old copy of this book. The story is damn good, I’m tellin’ ya. I even, um...” he trailed off. Shit.
All she was doing was staring at it. Hadn’t even unwrapped it fully.
Why was she just staring at it? Oh shit, and she’s crying. Shit, man. He knew she was hormonal and stuff, but shit, um, okay, what could he do to fix this? What did he do to cause it, though? He was such a fuck up—WHOA, never mind, now her lips were on his.
Kissing her was one of his favorite things, sure, but now he was the kinda confused one. She was crying while she was kissing him.
Over a book?
“Gorgeous, hey. Tell me what’s wrong,” he murmured into her ear when she stopped for air.
In response, she looked at him as if he’d just spoken gibberish.
“Wrong? Abs—absolutely nothing is wrong, you sweet, silly man!” She sniffed again and wiped her eyes before hugging the book to herself. She started kissing him again, too.
He was trying to gather the wherewithal to pull away and ask her again what was going on, buuuut he didn’t want to, not when kissing her was one of the best damn things.
Lucky for him, she ended up pulling back.
“Darling?” She broke out into that gorgeous smile and rested her forehead on his. “I had this exact edition. My, my mother bought it for me as a college graduation present,” she explained, slightly out of breath as she sat back up. “These are happy tears, don’t worry. Though, maybe a few unhappy tears because I miss her and dad but, oh my goodness, I’m so... I feel like I’ve got a piece of her back!”
For all that she just spilled, the best he could do was blink and ask “This same one?”
“The Collins Clear Press, E. Stuart Hardy Illustrated Edition. Oh, Daryl, I am feeling so many things right now!” She hugged it to herself again and sighed. “I had every work of the Brönte sisters, but no less than five copies of Jane Eyre. It’s my all time favorite.”
Okay. Okay, he felt better. So much damn better, shit.
But just to make sure, he had to check, “You like it?”
Yet another kiss was her first answer, followed by “Darling, I adore it.”
She then swallowed and pushed her hair behind her ears. Exhaled heavily, then drew herself onto her knees and—oh, okay, lovin’ this—straddled him again.
“Now, if you’re up for it, handsome, I would like to make very slow, long, drawn-out love to you?”
He made an unintentional groan by way of response, his jeans were getting tight. Oh right, he forgot to put bed stuff on. Pajamas, whatever you call them.
To which Y/N bit her lip and laughed softly. Tossed her hair the way she knew he loved so damn much. “But before I relieve us of our clothing, first I would like to know the mystery behind this.”
She leaned back to grab something…
Oh, his book. She’d grabbed his copy of—aw shit, had he fallen asleep on it? The pages got all bent.
Damn.
You
“If I have this copy, what is this one?”
“That one’s mine,” he tells you shyly. Or maybe he wasn’t speaking shyly as much as he’s getting out of breath because you’re lightly grinding your pelvis over his.
“You have your own copy, Daryl.” Not a question, more of a declaration, but you’re just proud you managed not to moan as you said it. Cool down, mama, let the man talk, you remind yourself.
“Just got it today. I took,” He cracked up and bowed his head as if embarrassed. “I took three of them. The old one was for you, there was a new one that I figured could go in your library, and that one I wanted to keep for me, I dunno.”
Perhaps you’re panting a little right now...“Oh, I think you do know,” you whisper back, endeavoring to slow yourself down. “Now, please tell me how on earth you came to want a copy of your own?”
He makes a shy little shrug. “It’s a good story. The book, I mean. I just, um, read it a bunch of times back in high school—mm, fuck!” he lets out an appreciative groan after you can’t help but buck your hips.
Ah, it's about time his hands found their way under your shirt.
“But, um, yeah, I just really liked it. ’Specially for an autobiography, those are usually so damn borin’—h-hot damn, Y/N,” he chokes out. Okay, you may have done that one on purpose...
You help him take your shirt off. “Everything that is coming out of your mouth, darling, is making me so hot.”
“I h-had a hunch,” he murmurs back with what’s almost a self-satisfied chuckle.
“May I finish removing your clothes, Mr. Dixon?
“Yes, ma’am.”
You’ll tell him that the book is entirely fictional and not really an autobiography later, because right now, you need to press your lips to his along with everywhere else that you can on his body.
Him
Judith was up real early today, he heard her squealing. She was almost walking on her own now, ain’t that wild?
Call him soft if you want, but he was so damn excited that another one was gonna be running around with her soon enough. His own kid, too, how insane was that? And maybe Glenn and Maggie would finally have one, too...
Hot damn, was he feeling soft this morning.
Kinda hard not to be. Y/N was still fast asleep with one thigh wrapped around his middle—oh, he’d just made a pun, didn’t he? Hard-not-to-be-soft. Wait, was that a pun or something else?
Y/n would know, is she awake yet? He looked away from the pages to check on her.
Nah, she’s still asleep. And shit, man, she was damn gorgeous whatever she was doing, just look at her.
Anyway, while his wife was still recharging and while neither of them had to get up just yet, he had gotten Jane all the way through her boarding school years and she’d just met the kid she was nannying.
It’s cool that this copy had footnotes, because he’d forgotten what the stuff the little French girl spoke meant. How do you even pronounce that stuff?
You
As you stretch awake, you have to make a little mmhm in appreciation.
“The first thing I see when I wake up is my husband reading our favorite book. Today’s going to be a very good day, I can tell.” You’re still exhausted today, but that’s alright.
The corners of his mouth prick up and his cheeks redden. “The first thing I got to see was you naked, so it’s already a real good one.”
Oh, how fabulous! He isn’t usually as forward as that, even in private. You’d say he even sounded proud of himself, which is in itself a triumph.
And after last night, oh, he has every right to be proud.
You reach behind you to grab your water glass from the nightstand and take a long, refreshing sip, then hop out of bed and saunter your way to the bathroom. Slowly.
When you turn your head back, you’re pleased to see him staring and adjusting his legs to hide the excitement you just caused.
After freshening up and using the toilet, you slip on some clean undies and pajamas, then pick up the copy he’d given you and clutch it to your chest before snuggling back into bed with him.
“So, how far did we get this morning?”
“Jane just asked Mrs. Thornfield-lady is there are any ghost stories about the mansion they live in.”
“Getting to the juicy parts.”
“Hell yeah.”
“Are you meant to head out again today for your official job?”
After a signature grumble, he closes the book and pulls you to him closer. “Can I bring this with me?”
“I won’t snitch that you’re reading while you’re out there.”
“I meant you, Y/N.” He pauses. “But I should take the book, too, s’good idea,” he grunts, almost as if to himself.
You lightly kiss his cheek. “Let’s get up, sweet man. All three of us need breakfast, and you, as much as I hate to say it, need to put on,” You roll your eyes and sigh in mock-disgust. “Clothes.”
Him
Not that he was good at it, but he was doing his best to try and flirt with her. She deserved all that romantic stuff. Part of him was just still in shock that she was into him at all.
“You sure you want me to put clothes on?” he teased under his breath. That was flirting, right?
He nervously glanced over and saw that she seemed to enjoy it. “I certainly do not. But I have something in mind for later. Would you like to hear what it is?”
Try to sound manly for her and shit.
“Y-yeah.”
Way to go.
“As soon as we’re both home, I would like to bring you back here...” Her fingers were trailing down his chest...then down his stomach…
...to where his book lay in his hands, upon which she tossed her hair and asked in the cutest damn way possible: “Then we can read for a few hours?”
He didn’t expect her to go in that direction, and he was so damn in love with that woman at that moment he thought he’d fucking burst.
“That sounds perfect, gorgeous,” he chuckled. “It’s a damn good book.”
She bit her lip and and giggled, taking one of his hands into hers and kissing it. "Especially for an ‘autobiography.’”
"'M goin' back out today. That okay for ya?" Daryl asked, while buttoning up the last few buttons of his black shirt and rolling up the sleeves. You smiled at him, stretched and stood up; leaving the cosy bedsheets behind. "Of course." You said, stepping closer and watching him slip in his angel-winged vest. Both your hands found their way on his chest, softly tugging on the cold, smooth fabric of the famous leather vest. "As long as you're coming back to us..." You whispered with a smile; your eyes never leaving his beautiful blue-greyish ones.
Us... The word hit Daryl like a ton of bricks - in the best way possible, though. It caused the ends of his nerves to sizzle. An overwhelming feeling of warmth and love flooding his veins. Us... He couldn't stop himself from smiling that signature sweet, small, boyish smile. "Ain't gonna ever leave ya two alone," he stated, shaking his head. One hand settled on your left hip, while the other found your yet non-existent baby bump. Although Daryl always stated, that he was already able to feel the tiny, innocent life. Despite the fact that you were barely eight to ten weeks along - according to Siddiq. Whenever he said that, you'd just giggle and shake your head.
"'M always goin' to come back for ya. 'Specially now." Your smile even widened; one hand reaching up to brush a chestnut brown curl out of his handsome face. "I know." You stood on your tippy-toes to brush your lips against his; eyelids fluttering shut.
"I can't convince you to let me join you, can I?" Daryl scoffed playfully, shaking his head. "Absolutely not. Ain't lettin' you walk around out there." You sighed, but giggled. "Thought so... Take care out there, yes? Be safe." Your boyfriend nodded. "'Course. Promised." "Good." You kissed him again. "I'll be back 'fore the sun's goin' down."
Daryl grabbed his crossbow then, his knives and took one of the pick-up's. His bike would've been a bit too small for his task ahead. With a last look at you and a soft smile, he left Alexandria; off to find and scavenge stuff for the baby.
Tumblr media
Around midday, Daryl was already several miles away from home, searching every square inch of a few smaller cities around D.C. Daryl knew that it probably wasn't the best idea to be close to such a big city, but that didn't scare him.
Now he was sneaking down the streets of a rather very small city he didn't know the name of. Not much houses, only a few shops. His eyes landed on an old building. Not big and plain. Unimportant, unnecessary. He was about to walk past it, when he recognised the small sign over the old, rusty door... 'Smith's Baby Store'. Wasn't that exactly what he was looking for? "Finally," he muttered to himself under his breath, drawing his knives. With his foot, he kicked against the unstable door, listening for any signs of walkers. Nothing.
Carefully, he opened the door. It didn't budge at first, but with a little more strength, it finally gave in - as if someone was inside it before him. Looking around to check the street for any stray walkers - which wasn't the case, he stepped inside the small house. Daryl noticed immediately, that this house was constructed very... strange. The door didn't lead straight into the shop. It led into a long, dark hallway - with only three other doors. One on the left, one on the right and one at the end of the hallway. Daryl sneaked on quiet feet down the squeaking hallway; the old wood creaking underneath his weight. He checked the two rooms on the sides first, but found nothing. One room was already scavenged. Not much things were left. Most of the items useless and broken. The other room was nothing more than a broom closet with dusty cleaning supplies.
Daryl let out a slightly annoyed groan, before he made his way to the last room. The sparse wooden door wasn't locked. It was slightly ajar, making it easy for the archer to open it. The door led into a big room, full of shelves and cupboards, in which several baby things were. A smile twitched at the corners of Daryl's lips. Jackpot. But just a moment later, his expression shifted into a frown. The building had been clearly scavenged already, so... Why leave this room out? Why not take these things as well?
The answer got the archer only seconds after the thought had crossed his mind. He took a few steps inside the room - and immediately felt the floor giving softly in underneath him; bending under his weight. The wood was rotten, dilapidated and more than unstable. Daryl walked backwards again, biting his lip and weighing his options. Should he risk it? Should he not? He didn't know what was beneath the floor. Perhaps the basement? He could've sworn he had seen a small stair in the other room, leading down to a door. The basement couldn't be that bad, could it? And perhaps the floor held him, so... Daryl had been way too long on his way today and the past days - weeks. He didn't want to go home once again empty handed.
So, he took the risk - and paid for it almost immediately. The old wood held his weight the first time and also the second time - but not the third. It gave in underneath him, creaking and aching, causing the archer to fall - like he had predicted into the basement. With a thud, he landed on his back, groaning. "Shit." Only a tiny window let the sunlight in and illuminated the dark, dusty and... smelly room. His ears were ringing from the fall, his senses blinded for a moment, causing him to not realise instantly, what he got himself into.
Only when the sounds of low snarls and snapping teeth urged slowly but surely to his ears, he realised. Daryl's eyes widened in shock and surprise, before he scrambled to get up from the cold ground. The window didn't let much light in... But enough to show that said basement was filled with more than just two walkers... Way more than two. Daryl grimaced - in pain and frustration. "Damn it!" The walkers noticed him, of course, immediately and went straight at him. Daryl reached for his knife to get rid of the first undead, attacking him; all the while scanning the room for the door. He had to get out of this.
Unfortunately - just in that moment, while he was fighting the undead, started his walkie talkie to give forth some static hissing, before Rick's voice echoed across the basement. "Daryl?!" The archer got rid of another walker, plunging his knife into its rotten skull, before retrieving the weapon again, and reached for the walkie talkie attached to his belt. He thought it had been the last one, but just as he was about to answer his brother, another walker lunged at Daryl from behind, with such an impact that the little, black device slipped from Daryl's hand, along with his knife. A grunt left his lips as he tried to get the undead man away from him. He turned and stumbled to the ground with the walker landing on top of him. Its foul breath hitting Daryl's face; rotten teeth snapping at him, mere inches from his neck. "Daryl?! Do you copy?!" Rick's voice called out for him again. Daryl gritted his teeth and used all his force to shove the undead away from him. Quickly he reached for his knife and killed the walker. Panting, he fell back on his back, catching his breath. "Come on, Daryl! It's urgent!" Rick sounded almost desperate by now. Daryl took a deep breath and stood up to get the walkie talkie. "Rick? Rick! I'm here." He panted, wiping some blood from his face. "Sorry, man. Had to get rid of a few walkers."
Rick answered instantly. "Thank god. Daryl, you gotta get back here! Quick!" The man frowned, making his way to the small door of the basement. "Why?" "Y/N's in the infirmary! She-" Rick's voice broke and Daryl's heart dropped. You were in the infirmary? Fear and panic immediately started to rise within the archer. "Rick?!" He literally screamed into the walkie talkie, "Rick!" but all he got in return was static hissing. "Fuck's sake!" The archer cursed and slammed the device on the ground, before he literally run up the stairs and out of the house. Something was wrong, if you were in the infirmary - and whatever it was, he had to get back to Alexandria as fast as possible.
Tumblr media
The gates got opened immediately, as soon as Daryl approached Alexandria. The archer didn't even bother to park the pic-up on its rightful place. He jumped out of the vehicle and slammed the door shut; seeing Rick already running his way. "Daryl!" The archer met his friend midway. "Wha' happened?! What's wrong with 'er?!" "You better see for yourself...," was all Rick said - a sorrowful look on his face. Daryl didn't let himself tell that twice, of course. As fast his legs could carry him, he sprinted to the infirmary. Without even knocking he ripped the door open and stormed in - attracting Siddiq's attention. "Daryl." "Where is she?!" The archer walked up and down the room like a wounded tiger; tried to push past the doctor - but Siddiq stood firmly in his way and tried to calm him down. "Daryl, calm down. Y/N's in the last room down the hall. Let me explain first, okay?" The black-haired man lifted his hands as if in surrender. Another try to calm the worked up man across him down. Daryl's chest heaved, as he grunted and gave the doctor a short nod - which Siddiq returned. "You... You might want to sit down for this." "Nah, 'm good. Tell me wha' happened." The doctor took a deep breath. "Alright, I... Y/N came to me a few hours ago; said she had cramps. Usually nothing to be worried about, but I checked on her nevertheless." Siddiq swallowed hard, lowering his head. "When I went to check, I... I saw that... There was blood, Daryl."
The archer's eyes widened and he felt his heart drop for the second time that day. Deep down, he already knew what it meant, of course, but he didn't want to believe it. Not until Siddiq spoke the dreadful words out loud. "Y/N, she... I'm afraid she had a miscarriage. I'm sorry." Daryl just stared at his friend blankly. The news - the shock was just too overwhelming. Without saying a single word, the archer walked past the doctor and straight down the hall, towards your room.
Gently opening the door, he found you laying on a bed, curled up into a ball. Your back towards him. He could hear the soft cries and sobs, which left your lips - breaking his heart. Daryl whispered your name, trying to hold back his own tears. You stirred immediately; hearing his voice. Shifting to face him, he saw your tear-stained cheeks and red, puffy eyes. "D-Daryl..." You sobbed, causing more tears to fall. He was immediately at your side, pulling you against his body. "'M here, love, 'm here. 'S alright, 'm here..." Of course, he knew that nothing was alright, but what was he supposed to say?
Daryl felt your body shaking against his. He wanted to scream; he wanted to cry - but he couldn't allow himself that. He needed to be strong for you. For the both of you. But the harsh reality hit him nevertheless. A few hours back, everything was alright. His little world was perfect. And now? Now it all came crashing down. The happiness ripped out of both your hands - within the blink of an eye. "I-I am s-so s-sorry, I-I-I..." You stammered, hands clasping on his vest; holding onto him for dear life. Daryl immediately shook his head. "Stop that, please... You have nothin' to be sorry for. This ain't your fault, sunshine." "It h-has to b-be! I-I must've done s-something wrong, I…" "Nah, you didn't. These things just happen sometimes." You looked up at him with hooded Y/E/C eyes. "B-But why to u-us? W-We were so happy about it... Looked forward to meet this baby and now... Now they are gone..." The words caused fresh tears to run down your cheeks. "I don't know, sunshine... I don't know..."
Tumblr media
The most important thing was, that you had each other. It was going to be a tough time, but you knew that with Daryl by your side, you would overcome the grief. Scars were going to heal with time and sooner or later, you would welcome a new life in this world, where happiness was most precious and family was the most precious gift. Yes, it wasn't going to be easy, but you knew from all the things you've been through that everything works out in the end. After all, light couldn't exist without darkness, could it?
The next days Daryl spent the whole time at home with you. He didn't leave your side. Not even for a minute. The both of you spent most of the time in your house; secluded. Everybody understood that, of course and gave you all the time you needed to process the loss. Losing a child was never easy. No matter if born or unborn.
You had to admit that holy shit, it was nice to be out in the fresh air. It was cold as fuck, but you were bundled up in the coat that had been brought to you all those weeks ago. It sucked to keep it situated for easy gun and knife access but it was enough. Your feet were warm in your boots, two pairs of socks since they were a little big to accommodate any swelling of your feet as the pregnancy progressed but that only meant that your toes were nice and toasty. Leggings under maternity jeans were a hindrance when the baby decided to drop kick your bladder, but otherwise, necessary to ensure you didn’t get frostbite in very inconvenient areas, as well as your legs.
You had been walking through the snow for about an hour before coming across any walkers. There were two, both women. One a little older than Beth and one about your own age. They moved slower in the cold, you had noticed. After putting them down, you became aware that their skin appeared to be freezing solid.
“Walker popsicles. Huh.” You muttered, storing that information to share. Another fifteen minutes went by and you had still seen no game, so you decided to stop and rest. You weren’t necessarily out of shape but you were growing a human inside of you. That tended to take a bit out of the energy department. You had swiped a canteen and some of the jerky, partaking of both to make sure you could carry out what you came to do.
“Alright, Thumper. Let’s see if we can figure out daddy’s weapon of choice. Can’t be that hard, right?” You promptly came very close to shooting a bolt into your own foot. You blinked at it and looked around as if there had been anyone else to see the incident before putting a hand to your belly. Thumper rolled as if just as shocked. “Let’s just keep that between us, okay?”
It was the operation that hindered you. Once you figured out the mechanics,—with about forty-five minutes of tinkering—aiming and firing were things that came naturally to you. Daryl was going to murder you when he had to fix everything you had fucked with in your exploration of the weapon. Collecting the bolts you had used for practice, you froze, eyes narrowed on the small indentations in the snow. Rabbits.
Small game was your specialty. You always hunted rabbits and squirrels when it was just you and father. There was nowhere to keep an abundance of meat in your small home. No smokehouse. It had been different when the family would come over, your aunt and uncles. They loved their venison and you never had to be concerned with wasting anything.
The smile that lifted the corners of your mouth was one born of bittersweet longing. You wished your father could be there to meet his grandchild, but you were—at the same time—thankful that he wasn’t around to see what had truly become of the world, that it would never go back to how it used to be.
Still, you chuckled as you wiped away a tear. Your father would have had one hell of a time getting used to the idea of Daryl being the father, but in the end, he would have been the first to see through that rough exterior to the man hidden underneath. And he would not have wasted a single second before calling the archer out on it.
“If you’re a boy, I could name you after your grandad. Maybe after your uncle, if your daddy wants.” Daryl still hadn’t revealed much about his family. Maybe once he was better, you could sit with him and just talk, quid pro quo. You ask a question about him, and then him about you. He seemed to be okay with that sorta thing. He never liked being the center of attention.
He also appeared interested in learning about you in every way he could. It hadn’t taken you long to notice the way he picked up on things and filed them away. He knew how you liked your meat cooked when it was being eaten outside of a stew. He would take it from Carol and do it himself, usually. He knew how things touching the front of your throat made you feel uncomfortable, like scarves or the top buttons of a flannel, stopping Maggie from wrapping a rather pretty knit fabric around your neck one bitterly cold morning.
Daryl also knew just how to touch you, how to curl his fingers inside of you and how much pressure you needed when his thumb would graze over your clit. He excelled in making you shiver by wetting his digits with your own arousal before dragging the tips over your skin to stimulate your nipples. He did all this while pressing soft kisses just behind your ear or over your pulse, everyone sleeping around you being none the wiser. It was always so incredibly erotic to be brought over the edge knowing that any of them could simply open their eyes and see that he was working you over.
Maybe you could show him what you knew he liked while he recovered. You knew for a fact that he would groan if you lapped and nibbled at a specific area just above his collarbone. He would never admit it but you had noticed the way touching his nipples made his hips jerk when he was inside of you. The first time you’d gone down on him back in the woods, you had kitten-licked at his tip and pressed your thumb against the vein that ran underneath, dragging the digit up his length. He had clawed at the tree behind him so hard that you were certain he’d be picking splinters from beneath his nails afterward.
It took a soft thump to the cranium, snow falling from a branch overhead, to bring you from your pleasant thoughts. With an ache between your thighs and the prospect of maybe getting some alone time with your boyfriend—you still needed to clarify what you could call him, if anything—while he wasn’t trying to evict his lungs from within his chest, you whined quietly. You kinda wished you had stayed there and were curled up in bed with him. Was he okay? Were the meds helping? Was Carol whacking him over the head with the bedpost to keep him from chasing you?
You had nearly convinced yourself to turn back when you saw the first rabbit, a decent sized cane cutter that would make a nice stew to last a couple of days. It hadn’t seen you and taking it down was easy since you had not yet shouldered the crossbow.
“One down, Thumper!” You took one step and then paused. “It’s kinda insensitive to call you Thumper when I’m hunting rabbits, isn’t it?”
Tumblr media
You had two rabbits by the time at least three and a half hours had passed, a little disappointing but it was freezing and you did have to make periodic stops to put down walking corpses and even more stops to pee. You were feeling a little nauseous as well, so it was likely beyond time to head back. Maybe Daryl would rest just as well the next day and you could come back out since this excursion would show everyone you could handle yourself out there.
Wiping your knife across your thigh after yet another slow moving walker, you had barely secured it into the sheath before you noticed the tracks.
Deer.
A single deer, young but more than a year. Based on the depth of the tracks, you could likely manage to haul it back on your own if you could take it down. Chewing the inside of your cheek, you glanced at the way back to the house; back to Daryl.
This was all for him, after all. The more food you could secure, the longer he could rest and recover. The decision was simple after that. Ensuring a bolt was loaded, you set out to do what you once did best.
You were still her.
The only differences were the people in your family were no longer an aunt and two uncles, the main man in your life was no longer your father, and you were 11 or so weeks away from having your own baby. You had never needed to be provided for, always the provider. There was no reason you and Daryl couldn’t share that responsibility. When the baby came, you’d adjust and adapt, providing differently and that was okay. The longer you could nurse Thumper, the easier it would make things. You’d step back then, let Daryl take over. It would be even more important to him then, the need to provide. You’d be a team, each caring for the baby in your own way.
The prospect was equal parts exciting and terrifying. New parents in a dystopian world. It wasn’t impossible. It was just dangerous. Daryl had done so well, thinking ahead when he had cleared that Wal-Mart. So much that would be needed already secured, ready to carry with your group when moving from place to place. With a small, tender smile, you glanced at the bracelet for morning sickness you still wore. It likely no longer worked, but you couldn't really bear to part with it.
You wanted to search out a baby store eventually, or make a request for a run. Cloth diapers would be a lifesaver once the disposable ones had been used. Infant and children’s medications needed to be stocked.
Thumper gave your ribs a jab, earning a hiss in response. “Okay, okay. I’m focused. Jeez, kid, can you be any more like your father?”
The tracks were getting closer together in clusters, the deer stopping to check out areas in search of food. You were catching up, the falling snow not yet filling in the prints. In the back of your mind, you maintained an active regard for the time you’d been gone, one eye on the sun to ensure you’d make it back before dark. You would be late and you’d steered off course but you were confident.  You’d need to circle around and place yourself downwind soon if you wanted to stand a chance. This is what you knew.
You’d meet up with the search party at the very least on your journey back. That is if Carol hadn’t grown anxious and sent them earlier. Or Daryl— dear god, if Daryl hadn’t somehow managed to drag himself out of that house. No, they wouldn’t let him. You had to believe that. It would be Rick, Glenn, and T-Dog. Maybe Maggie. They’d likely be sore at needing to come find you but if you were hauling a deer, that disgruntlement would likely be forgotten quickly. You just needed to ensure you succeeded and that you stayed safe.
Just as you continued to track, you muttered a curse at a slow shuffling walker. One bolt needed to remain untainted for hunting and, so far, your knife had been sufficient but you were closing in on your target. Using the crossbow would be ideal for the dead at that juncture. Nearly silent kills. The crossbow was level with your eyes when you saw it.
The doe’s head perked up just beyond some snow-covered shrubbery, ears twitching. “Fuck.” You whispered. You had to take the deer first or risk it running from the walker. It had already spotted the threat, getting ready to move. There was no time to think. The deer went down easily, your muttered apologies and gratitude for what it would provide for your group were unheard as you dropped the bow and sprinted for the corpse.
Loading another bolt would take too much time, the deer would be lost to the walker. You were already cutting it close this way, the snow and the off-centered weight of your belly slowing you down. Just as the dead man began to fall on top of your kill for the unearned feast, you tackled him. There was a jolt of pain in your midsection but your knife was already sinking into an eye socket, the deed done.
“Ow,” you muttered. Scanning the area for threats as you unzipped and moved clothing, raising your sweater to look at the deep red mark on the side of your belly, just below your right rib cage. “Fuck.” A knee or elbow must have been angled just right to jab you on impact. “You okay in there?” Your sweater still rolled up, you laid your knife on your thigh and caressed the taut skin with both hands. “Come on, Thumps, need you to move.” A foot or hand pressed firmly into the injured side. “Okay, okay! Point taken! No more tackling walkers. Ouch, you little gremlin.” With a huff, you adjusted your clothing. You’d have Hershel look you over and check on the baby when you returned.
Wiping your knife on your jeans, you secured it on the sheath and crawled over to the deer. It remained unsullied and perfect to feed your family. It was a clean, quick kill and it didn’t suffer. You were always thankful for those.
“Alright, let’s get this back—” No time to register what was happening before you tilted over to retch violently. “Shit.” You panted, looking away from the mess of bile, water, and undigested jerky. Of course this couldn’t just go smoothly. Once again, the world had decided to fuck you. “At least Daryl beat it to getting me pregnant.” You laughed at your lame joke and laid back against the belly of the deer to catch your breath.
“Fucker.” You growled, angling your leg to kick the man's corpse. The baby moved as you laid there, the slightly ripple showing beneath your coat and sweater. “Oh, hey. I could see that.” You smiled, rubbing your very upset stomach. “Your father is gonna skin me right along with this deer.” You nodded to yourself. Closing your eyes, you took deep, calculated breaths in an attempt to gain control over the nausea.
But when they opened again, it was dark, the sun having fled and the moon bright in the star-filled sky. You groaned as you sat up, checking yourself and the area around you for any signs of walker activity. No bites. Your deer was frozen but whole. Shaking off the snow that had gathered on you, you rubbed your hands together, digging through the pockets of your coat with numb fingers in search of your gloves.
“You good in there, Thumps?”
Nothing.
You had just finished pulling on the second glove before stilling to stare at your round stomach hidden beneath your coat. “Thumper?” You had grown so accustomed to the baby reacting when you spoke that to feel such stillness made your chest tighten. “Baby?” Swallowing hard, you adjusted your clothing again, shivering when the chill of the night air struck your belly. “Come on, baby, can you move for mama?”
What if the baby had died inside you? Does the virus affect a fetus? What if you carried the baby only for them to be born a walker?
Then there was movement, gentle ripples below the skin. Some that you could see, some that you couldn’t. But the thought remained, a very real terror that your baby could already be dead and just trying to get out.
You couldn’t breathe, couldn’t move. You could only jerk your eyes back and forth at the sound of footsteps getting closer.
“Whatcha sittin’ in the snow for, Peanut?”
Now you definitely couldn’t breathe. There, bathed in moonlight, standing on two very there, very functioning legs, was your father. “Dad—daddy?”
“Hey, there.” You sat stock still, sweater still rolled up, eyes still frozen on him as he approached and crouched in front of you. “Let’s get you all fixed up here.” Gentle hands fixed your clothing, zipped your coat, and ruffled your hair.
“Am I dreaming?” You asked with the slightest wobble to your voice.
“‘Fraid so, Peanut-butter.” When the sound that punched out of you was like a painful sob, he was ducking to find your eyes. “Hey, hey. None of that.”
“I miss you.” You sniffled, letting him pull you close with his chin on your head. “There’s so much—”
“I know, baby girl. I’ve been watching.” He pulled back, thumbing away your tears. “Gonna be a grandpa, I see. Daddy wouldn’t have been my first choice but he surprised me.”
“You like him?” You smiled, lopsided and silly, giggling when he rolled his eyes.
“No father thinks any man is good enough for his little girl, but this one? Well, he keeps surprising me.” He offered you a hand, pulling you up with him as he stood. “He needs you. He’s always needed you just as much as you’ve needed him. So you need to get you and my grandbaby back to him before he loses his mind.”
“But the baby—”
“Is fine.” He chortled, gently stroking your cheek. “You’ll be an amazing mama, Peanut.” He was starting to fade right before your eyes. “You’ll see.”
“Don’t go.” You pleaded, hands passing through his shoulders when you tried to pull him back.
“I’m so proud of you.” His voice was echoing, distant even when you could still see his face. “You’ll be fine, all three of you. But now you need to wake up.”
A tear was frozen to your temple, pulling at your skin there when your eyes opened. Snow peppered down from the dark sky, the moon barely visible beyond the clouds. You felt no panic, breaths coming calmly and the baby kicking periodically, even if it did smart when the little extremities connected with the sensitive injury.
You winced pulling yourself away from the deer you knew would be at least partially frozen. The meat would keep, at least. You’d let the men handle the thawing and prepping anyway. The area was dark, no signs of flashlights or sounds of voices. They had either passed you by or never came at all.
It wouldn’t matter in the end.
Because you were going back to them.
Getting to your feet, you gathered your things and prepared to drag the deer. It would likely be about 115 pounds so carrying it was unlikely. You wouldn’t risk leaving it for later retrieval, not when 45 to 50 pounds of meat was likely from that single kill. Hell no.
You had once dragged Daryl while he was soak and wet and he had at least 60 pounds on that deer. This was doable. You just needed to think. Eyes darting around, you let your fingers drum on your tummy while you pondered. With a deep breath, you started to believe you’d just be dragging the damn thing by hand but then you noticed the walker you had put down. Grabbing your knife, you grinned like a damn fool and set to work.
Tumblr media
Lori was pacing in front of the door, watching the men prepare to leave. “You should have already been out there hours ago! Before dark, Rick!” When the deputy stood with a sigh, she didn’t back down. “Do you remember when the decision was made to leave Daryl out when he didn’t come back? Who went to get him? What shape he was in when she brought him back?”
“Yes, I remember, okay! I was just trying to give her the benefit of the doubt! She seemed like she had something she wanted to prove.”
“She said four hours. Carol came to you before that because we were about to lose Daryl on a crazy quest to find her.” Maggie was looking at Glenn but then sent a pointed glance to each of them.
“He’s gonna have a lot to say when he finds out you waited, especially after what we had Hershel do.” Carol said from her spot on the top of the stairs.
“What did Hershel do?” All eyes turned to you in the doorway, dropping the straps you had made from the walker’s overalls. It was Lori that made it to you first, her arms winding around you awkwardly with two different sized bumps barring the way.
“Carol told us you had left to hunt and all I could think about were the things I said upstairs.” The other woman’s eyes were wet and sincere. With a smile, you pulled off one of your gloves and wiped a thumb below her eye. You didn’t say anything because what could you say? She had been incredibly insulting to Daryl and you wouldn’t speak for him. Maybe she would get the hint and talk to him eventually. Maybe not.
You looked past Lori toward Rick, T-Dog, and Glenn. "Got a deer and two rabbits." Then your next smile, wry as it was, aimed up the stairs. “What did Hershel do, Carol?” Carl and Beth came thumping out of the kitchen, throwing their arms around you. You hugged them close while your eyes flitted over to the old veterinarian himself walking along the banister from Daryl’s room. You were gentle when pulling away from the kids, tossing a kills are on the porch, have fun at the men while you began your ascent.
Carol fell in step with you.
“Before anything else,” you started, unzipping your coat, “I had a literal run-in with a walker. Hershel, can you—?” You rolled up your sweater, the skin already bruising.
“Has the baby been active?” He asked immediately, probing the area with tenderness while the other hand struggled to place his stethoscope in his ears.
“It’s Nascar in there, I promise.” You felt the baby squirm slightly before they settled again, your eyes on the old man’s face, watching for any concern. You found none and let out a breath when he straightened.
“Seems like all is well. Heartbeat is just fine and it is indeed the Indy 500. You were lucky.” There was a bit of a reprimand in that last statement, one you couldn’t say was unwarranted. Nodding in agreement, you made up your mind that as long as the meat could last until Daryl was on his feet, you wouldn’t venture out alone again.
You then turned to Carol. You had told her to do whatever it took to keep him there, even knock him out. If Hershel was involved, you assumed the knocking out was of a medicational nature. He wasn’t dead, they would have been smart enough to tell you that around people that could restrain you. “Okay, what’s the damage?” You asked from just beside the doorway, afraid to look inside just yet. “Is he tied down?” Carol shook her head.
“He was determined, Y/N. He pulled out the IV, only made it to the stairs before collapsing. They couldn’t get him back into the room, weak as he was, he fought all three of those grown men.” Hershel sighed. “I gave him a very small dose of morphine. It was enough to sedate him without compromising his respiration.”
You groaned. That man was going to verbally rip you a new asshole, but you’d take it with grace because it was going to keep him safe and give him more time to recover. As long as the meat was prepared and rationed correctly, it could last a while. Maybe that would give you a chance to get back on his good side.
He needs you. He’s always needed you just as much as you’ve needed him.
“Okay, so what do I need to do?” You asked, finally rolling your back against the wall to place you inside the room. Daryl was out. You had never seen the man so unconscious, and you’d seen him nearly die. That was a frightening thought. The plus side was that his color was so much better and the rattle in his chest couldn’t be heard until you were much closer. He didn’t stir in the slightest when you sat down next to his left hip, all the way around toward the wall, avoiding the arm with the replaced IV.
“You won’t need to do much of anything. Monitor his breathing and fetch me if it gets too slow. It shouldn’t with the dose I gave him but his body has been fighting a horrific illness, so we can’t be too careful. It’s been a couple of hours so it will likely start wearing off soon, regardless. When he wakes up, make sure he drinks and encourage him to cough. Coughing and keeping the lungs free of mucus and liquid is crucial.”
You were nodding almost robotically, your fingertips just brushing his hair back and forth with no particular rhyme or reason. Just touching him.
“His fever has yet to break but it’s lowered dramat—is she even listening to me?” Hershel finally asked Carol, who chuckled and leaned across Daryl to clasp your shoulder until you looked at her.
“Watch how he breathes, don’t let it get too slow. Only for an hour or so. Get him to cough and drink when he wakes up. Fever has come down but hasn’t broken. I’ll come tell you when to give him more tylenol. Okay?”
You smiled, both embarrassed and grateful. “Okay.” With a nod to Hershel and an eye roll at Carol’s wink, you watched them shut the door.
Your hand on his cheek had to be freezing. They had just said his fever was down but he felt like a furnace to you. Shit. You were still in the clothes you had been wearing out in the snow. Coat, boots, jeans, and one pair of socks were quickly shed, you were in your sweater and leggings with your thicker socks still covering your feet. You’d been gone long enough and couldn’t seem to wait another second to crawl onto the bed with him. He shivered once but settled, his head turning toward you. You thought for a moment he might wake but he remained still.
With a deep breath, you settled yourself against his shoulder so that you could look up at his face. “I know you’re going to be mad as fuck at me, and I get it. You have a right to be and I won’t tell you otherwise. I was careful, I promise.” Your palm settled on his chest, feeling his heart lazily thump against it. “I have a—well, it’s just a bruise. Hershel looked at it. Thumper’s okay. I’m okay.” Why were you even talking? He was sound asleep. “I didn’t like being away from you while you were so sick. I don’t think I would have liked it even if you weren’t sick.”
Your hand left his chest for your fingers to dance along his jaw while you admired just how peaceful he looked. No lines of worry or pain. Just resting, fully relaxed. Seeing him like that just made your own exhaustion compound into something nearly unavoidable. With a large yawn, you snuggled closer and placed your hand back on his chest, counting his breaths like sheep. You knew you were losing the battle to stay awake, a tinge of worry sparking to life in your chest until you felt him move, nuzzling his cheek against the top of your head. He wasn’t so sedated that he couldn’t move.
Sighing, you smiled and finally let your eyes drift closed. “I love you.” You whispered, too far gone to react when the hand sporting the IV came to rest on top of yours.
“Me too, crazy girl.”
I can't
Tumblr media
It's been 3 days since you had seen Daryl since the argument. You were starting to believe he hadn’t really cared since he hasn't showed up. You hadn't told anyone about the situation because if you did you'd cry. Not knowing what to do you got comfortable on the sofa and started reading 'Desire Unchanted'.
After a couple minutes of reading there was a sudden knock on the door without giving it thought, you opened the door to be faced with Rosita and baby Socorro. You immediately light up at the sight of them. "Hello mamas, how are you?" You say in a sweet baby voice to Coco. "I wish you would greet me like that everyday" Rosita chuckled. You laughed and hugged Rosita letting them in.
" How have you been, I haven't seen you outside like you usually are?" You sighed "I've been through hell for the past couple of days" . "Why, what happened?" You raised your brows and blew air "oof well let's start with... I found out I'm pregnant 2 weeks ago..." "WHAT, oh my god, congratulations! Does Daryl know??" She said with a smile beaming on your face but seeing your not so happy expression it slowly faltered. "How do you feel about it are you happy?"
"I am but.., when I went to go see Daryl a couple of days ago", tears started swelling in your eyes as Rosita got up to sit next to you, Coco instantly reached out for you as you lifted her to your lap. " I had the box to give to him but before I could he told me had something to tell me" your voice hitched at the thought of it, "he basically told me he cheated on me, a whole argument broke out but it felt like I was talking to a wall, so really I was just arguing with myself, before I left I threw the box over to him and just left.
Your face was now stained with hot tears. Rositas face was in disbelief, " hijo de su puta madre (son of a bitch), how could he- why would he!?" "That's what I said but he told me nothing, I told him to come find me because I was done, it's been three days since, and I blame myself because I feel like I wasn't good enough" . "Hey! Don't say that he's the stupid one who wasn't good enough for YOU, he was to blind to see the best woman for him so don't blame yourself for his actions".
You looked up at her with a sly smile "Thank you Rosa" you say leaning your head on your shoulder, "anytime I'm always here when you need me" she assured resting her head atop of yours.
After sitting for a couple of minutes she got up picking up Coco from your lap "you know what instead of just sitting here let's do something, how about we cook?" You beamed with joy at the mention of food "ooo yes, we have to ask Carol for her book".
Tumblr media
Walking out the house you bumped into something hard, looking up you saw it was none other than Daryl. Your body tensed as you made eye contact with him. "Can we talk?" You turn to face Rosita as she's making daggers at him, "Rosa how about you go get the stuff ready and I'll come and get you?" She nodded her head , walking forward slightly nudging Daryl in the shoulder as she left.
You nodded your head to let Daryl in. You stared at him waiting for him to speak. "Can we sit?" "Mhm" . As you both sat across from each other he handed you a bag, you looked into to it and seen it was baby items, a small smile appeared on your face "thank you".
"Y/N I jus' wanna start of with I'm sorry for what I did t' you, I'm sorry fo' what I put yea' through the last couple of days. Wha' I did has no ex'cuse, but that night was meaningless t'a me. It was a huge m'stake riskin' what we have. I can wait as long as yea' need me t'a. I want t'a make it right I want t'a make it work fo' our kid and us I kno' it's gonna take time but I can wait as long as yea' need me t'a hope yea' can f'give me. Because I still love you."
You sat there for a second tears threatening to spill but not falling. Taking in a shaky breath, exhaling with a big blow you spoke.
" I know you're sorry Daryl I know you are, but what you did, it did mean something because there has to be a reason to why you did it. That's something I still want you to explain to me. And you don't have to worry about having to make it work for our kid because we are going to no matter what. And yes it's going to take a while but Daryl I can't..."
"I can't forgive you just yet because, it still hurts, although I'm hurt, I'm not going to deny the fact that I still love you because we have together for years"
" I jus' needed somethin' at tha' moment an' she was there, I don' kno' any other way to say it was jus; in the momen' "
With a nod you took in a deep intake of breath and got up, Daryl doing the same, walking outside closing the door behind you. "I appreciate it a lot Daryl so thank you. "
" I couldn't jus' leave yea' withou' n' explanation."
Looking up at him you gently wrapped your arms around his neck as he wrapped his arms around your waist just holding each other for a moment. Whispering to you he said "im gonna' make it up to yea'. " " I know you will." Pulling away, you asked " so how do you feel about the whole situation?" You said moving your hands around your stomach.
"I'm alrigh' sorta excited to meet lil bean" "Little Bean?" "Mmm wha'ever" "No no I like little bean" you said giggling, " As much as I would like to talk about 'little bean' I have to go to Carol's."
"mhmm, yea' think I can come by later in the week" "Yes you can Daryl it's still your house." "mk I'll see ya' then" " alrighty bye" you said waving. Turning to walk the opposite direction he was your heart was still aching, but glad he finally spoke to you.
Hope Part.3🧟‍♀️
Summary: After Daryl was taken away by Negan, y/n is trying everything she can to get him back, but being pregnant and depressed makes it harder
•Masterlist•
Tumblr media
I heard a knock on my door so I heaved myself up and answered it only to see the whole gang waiting, Michonne, Rick, Carol, Rosita and Sasha
“Can we come in?” Rick asked
I nodded and moved to the side to let them in, we all sat around the living room awkwardly waiting for someone to speak
“We’re worried about you y/n” Michonne spoke breaking the silence
“You can’t stay like this, it’s not good for you or the baby, we miss you, we miss talking to you” Carol stated
I huffed feeling the emotions well up in my chest
“I need him” I whispered as the tears bubbled into my eyes
“We will get him back y/n” Rick stated
“That’s all I’ve been hearing for 7 months, he’s missed basically all of my pregnancy and he’s alone and hurting, I need him back I need to be with him” I cried as I rubbed my belly feeling the baby kick my hand
That’s when another knock rang on my door, I got up again struggling and answered the door as I wiped my tears
“Jesus what are you doing here?”
“You all need to come with me…now” he said smiling
We all pilled into two cars and followed Jesus to Hill top
Once we arrived we got out of the cars, Michonne helping me out, it was hard with such a huge belly
“What are we doing here Jesus?” Rick asked
Jesus smiled as he motioned at Maggie who then motioned to something behind a trailer
That’s when I saw him, my Daryl, he was really here
I almost collapsed on the ground but thankfully Michonne still had a hold of me
I collected myself and quickly made my way over to him, I could see the tears welling in his eyes and his lip quivering
“My baby” I cried as I threw my arms around him, finally feeling his touch, he gripped me tight, holding me close, his tears collecting on my shoulder
“I’m so sorry, I tried so hard” I cried, basically screaming
“I know baby, I’m here now, we will be okay” he said pulling back and looking at my bump, placing his hands around it
“How is the baby?” He asked
“Good, I haven’t had a check up in a while though”
“Come he can check on you now, and Daryl with be able to finally see the baby” Jesus said waving me over to the doctors trailer
I held Daryl’s hand not wanting to be away from him for a single moment
I sat on the bed with Daryl sitting right next to me
“So how are you feeling?” The doctor asked
“I’ve been good, the baby abs been very active though”
“Well let’s see how they’re doing!” He said as he rubbed the gel over my belly and used the wand to spread it around and soon we heard the heart beat, of course I’ve heard it before but Daryl never has
I looked at him and he was crying all over again
“There she is, looking healthy!”
“It’s a girl? We’re having a baby girl?” Daryl cried hiding his face in my hand
“We’re having a girl Daryl! I’m glad you’re finally here with me, this whole pregnancy all I wanted was to have you with us”
“Im with you now, I can’t believe this is real, I hope she looks like you, she’ll be so cute” he smiled as he took a cloth and wiped off the gel for me
“Awe I want her to look like you, dark hair, beautiful blue eyes, she’d be beautiful”
Everything was whole now, everything was right
