Okay, so funny story... I've kinda known we had a database down here since day one, but I don't remember WHY we have it.
Is it, like, to keep tabs on what we do? I've only seen Jerry mess around with it, so probably not...
But I'm getting ahead of myself... Hey hackers, I'm Gage. Though, if you've been here before, you probably know me by my other name; Green Lightning, the leader of Team Hot Wheels! I hear Jerry's gonna start posting one of our old missions here soon. ...Which one was it again? Meh, I forget. We've gone through so many last year, even I can't remember them all! The only thing that comes to mind is all the awesome speed records I've broken since then. Oh, that reminds me...
Well, it doesn't really matter what you choose (pick speed), as long as you love what we do (seriously, pick speed), and who we are (I made a bet with Wyatt that speed's gonna win hands down, and if it doesn't I have to carry around his stuff for a solid week, PLEASE pick speed)then there's always room for you here at our database!

psa: maids!!
when accepting your maid's application process, do remember to cross-reference their cv with the Known Maids database. maid parasitic behaviour can look perfectly innocuous and you'll only know they're up to something if you've read their resume!!
don't make the same mistake i did!!! i adopted a maid once and while it was perfectly good at taking care of my two dolls, its inaction led to their relationship falling apart so spectacularly you could have based a classic of gothic fiction on it.

also, before i go to bed, i love how the liberation database just fucking lies to you. i wish that had been a mechanic that stuck around as the series leaned more into the abstergo-as-game-company angle. if templars are writing the database entries, then they should be unreliable! biased! liberation makes such good use of the concept of abstergo as an evil video game publisher between the doctored database entries and the cutscenes spliced up to hide critical information from you that everything that comes after feels kind of disappointing!
#as a rule i dislike abstergo’s twist into evil video game company rather than ‘vaguely pharmaceutical but also Overreaching entity’#BUT. that being said. liberation does the concept so fucking well.#abstergo is actively lying to you the entire game! it’s great!#and they’re not just hiding stuff about the templars but about the characters themselves! they take words out of aveline’s mouth! silence#her anger! you have to work to see all of her!! it’s fucking great!!#god what a fantastic game. liberation my beloved#the database entries in syndicate are written by shaun again but i *am* imagining now a version of that game closer to liberation#that takes henry’s backstory and uses it to paint him in his database entry as untrustworthy and unreliable.#i think i just really wish they’d kept doing that. what a fantastic way of manipulating the player. in-universe and out.#assassin’s creed

#genuinely this shit is like downfall of humanity to me#what do you mean you have a compsci degree and are having chatgpt write basic code for you#what do you mean you are using it to come up with recipes#what do you mean you are talking to it 24/7 like it’s your friend#what do you mean you are RPing with it#what do you mean you use it instead of researching anything for yourself#what do you mean you’re using it to write your essays instead of just writing your essays#i feel crazy i feel insane on god on GOD#i would have gotten a different degree if i knew that half the jobs that exist now for my degree are all feeding into the fucking gen AI#slop machine#what’s worse is my work experience is very much ‘automation engineering’ which is NOT AI but#using coding/technology/databases to improve existing processes and make them easier and less tedious for people#to free them up to do things that involve more brainpower than tedious data entry/etc#SO ESPECIALLY so many of the jobs i would have been able to take with my work experience is now very gen AI shit and i just refuse to fuckin#do that shit?????

Omg I just spent like 2 entire days trying to figure out how to access my shop again after it wouldn't let me just re-install it in my webspace because of changed php requirements. My old version store requires an outdated php version which my provider doesn't support anymore. How it even worked up until May is beyond me, but I digress.
So! Made it work finally by installing older versions of everything locally on my pc (also on Linux, I honestly applaud myself for that feat XD).
Now. Since I can't just go back to the older version because of the php problem, the question is how to go about getting all the info from my old shop into the new version. The issue is that the databases aren't compatible anymore either 🙄 So do I transfer everything manually via good ol' copypasta (takes ages, but shouldn't cause any issues) ooor do I try to upgrade the locally installed shop gradually to the new version and then transfer everything to the live shop (could be quicker, but the risk of breaking all sorts of things is pretty high tbh... Prestashop is not for the faint of heart (but it's free so I chose it anyway)). Decisions, decisions...
#random stuff#online shop#I'm kinda leaving towards the copypasta version#not exactly in a hurry anyway since I'm not comfortable getting the shop live again anytime soon#but the amount of time and energy 🥲#then again it might still be faster than the riskier method IF that one would go wrong...#so yeah#also I probably can't use my old theme anymore that I spent about a year on configuring at the time 💔#not doing THAT again for sure#will just use and tweak the classic theme I guess#if it really doesn't work anymore#maybe I'm lucky tho??#we'll see#edit:#manually copying all the database entries WILL take ages#and I have to be mindful of all sorts of things#but just tested it with an old test order and at least it shows up in the new back office so I'm hopeful#just not looking forward to the tediousness of it all XD

going to complain about cataloging stuff for a second but yesterday I was cataloging a Spanish work for the first time and I was looking up how to do that and it listed the things that had to be written in the item's language and what is written in the cataloging institution's language which all well and good, but they had subject headings as supposed to be written in the institution's language??? how does that help retrieval at ALL.
#i ended up doing it in both#but it was kind of hard since i don't have access to the controlled vocab in spanish (you have to pay to be able to access the database)#so I just used an uncontrolled entry#but yeah that rule was so fucking stupid#if you're searching the catalog for spanish titles why would you put an english word as the subject#edition/publisher/quoted info (like summaries)/titles were in item language which all made sense#and things like the dimensions and format make some sense...#but subjects??#personal
