My DCP Postcard arrived!

I had heard from the DCP Facebook page that they didn't send these to everyone, so I was very surprised to receive mine O.O I posted this on Facebook and received some “Not-so-friendly” comments about how “I should have just became a part-timer”, and “that Disney uses the DCP to take advantage of college students working maximum hours for minimum pay”. Both of these are farther from the truth and posted by people that have nothing to do with my life. I know what I’m getting myself into, and I don’t not need their negative influence. Then I ask myself “Why do i still have them on Facebook?” They’re clearly not my friends. They didn't congratulate or support me, but instead told me how I should be running my life. It’s hard to be excited when you’re constantly being told that you’re wrong for doing something that makes you happy. If anyone’s reading this, have you ever faced something like this?

January 3rd, 2016

January 2nd, 2016 was a day filled with goodbyes. The fall CP’s who weren’t extending had their final day at work, and we were all planning on meeting up at Steak ‘n Shake late that night for one last night out. I had worked a glow shift that night which was one of my least favorite shifts to work. Essentially a “glow shift” is where merchandise Cast Members sell all the light up toys and merchandise later in the night. Animal Kingdom was preparing for their extended hours and wanted to get the feel for how glow merchandise would be sold throughout the park. It’s a shift without a register, so you’re basically responsible for counting cash and figuring out change in your head. They gave us calculators but they were solar-powered calculators that spent the entire day locked in the dark glow cart, so those were useless. I’m not a fan of math and while counting change back became increasingly easier for me, I still dreaded the family that bought 3 $12 items and 4 $8 items with a $100.00 bill and demanded change in 5′s. When my shift finally ended, Jackie picked me up and we went back to her apartment to kill some time before the final goodbye dinner with everybody.

The clock changed to midnight and January 3rd, 2016 officially began. Jackie and I got to talking in my car and as we talked about saying goodbye the very next day, it quickly became apparent that we didn’t want to live without each other. It was definitely much deeper than a friendship by that point - and while everybody else thought we were more than that for months and months, we were completely oblivious. We told everybody we were just best friends, because we were. But there, sitting in my car in the Vista Way parking lot just outside of Jackie’s apartment, we realized they were right. We were much more to each other than just best friends. And there, around the midnight hours of January 3rd, 2016, in the back corner of a college program apartment complex, was where we made our relationship official. I had no idea how the logistics of it all would work out. Jackie was leaving to do her master’s program several states north of Florida the very next day, and I was staying in Florida to finish my program. Long distance wasn’t something either of us wanted to do, but not being together didn’t feel like an option. I’m glad we left our worries to the wind that night and just enjoyed our new found relationship. We hadn’t technically been on any dates by that point, but we knew we wanted to be together. The relationship was unconventional by most people’s standards, but we didn’t care. I’m so glad that we threw our worries out the window and played it by ear. Logistically, it appeared to be a nightmare but at the time, it was all we wanted. Today, over a year later, we’re still happily together and so thankful for the spontaneity of that night. January 3rd, 2016, was an unforgettable day that changed my life for the better.

I arrived in Florida today!!

Today was wild! I finally made it to Florida. It was a 14 hour drive for us because we ended up getting in a lot of traffic. But the best part of today was that I got to meet my friends and roommates!! We have been talking since March and I was so excited to finally meet them. We are all from different states and have different roles. We met at the Art of Animation resort and exchanged gifts. I got the cutest things!! Then we went to Disney Springs and ate dinner at Earl of Sandwich. It was so much fun!! Tomorrow is check in and I'm excited to see what my room is like and who my other roommates will be.

Happy November!

Well, it’s been a while! I’m officially a trained concierge cp at Y&B. Finally! I really enjoy being lobby concierge. Every day is completely different and a challenge and I’m finally getting to know the people I’m working with. It’s strange to think that my program would be ending in two months...if I didn’t extend. But luckily I got my extension! (Same role/same location - own housing). I’m so relieved that I’m able to stay as concierge. It’s so much learning/training and I would have been so sad if I had to learn a whole different role while I was still exploring concierge. 

I’m pretty happy with this program. It doesn’t feel like any of my other ones and it’s definitely not the same. I feel a lot older and it’s a lot less like the “college experience”, like my spring programs. And I think that has a lot to do with living off site. I love having my own apartment and I’m not having any problems (so far) budgeting myself for rent, but it just takes away from that whole “college” feel. Which, I’m past the college stage in my life, and that’s ok. I’m ok with my work location. Although apparently the Y&B doesn’t have the best reputation. And I can definitely see why everyone who gets deployed here doesn’t like it. Apparently Beach Club has a reputation for being awful. Which it is. It really has it’s days. If I make it out alive, I’m going to be proud to have survived being a Beach Club cast member. I will definitely have a thick skin by May.

No wave on Saturday so I'll have to wait until Monday to see if they are going to be doing another wave this week since the recruiting office is closed on Sunday's. To kill time I watched the Disneyland 60th anniversary special and worked on a thank you note for a fellow DCP hopeful who had made everyone who wanted a valentine hand made Valentine's Day cards! It was so sweet of her to make a hand made card so I figured a hand made thank you note was a must. I'm definitely not the best at line art or coloring but I did my best! :,) Here's to hoping I get that magical acceptance sometime this week! ✨
