Yknow, like it was fated that I’d get specifically these two or something

Out of character, unrelated to the world of the Paranaturaverse, I just want to talk about The Traveller for a little bit. They're a character I've had at the back of my mind for years, but have only recently put onto paper, so to speak.

I don't think there's a single character that isn't inspired by something I love, whether it be a song, a particular time period's aesthetic, or what have you. But the inspiration of The Traveller is a very impactful one to me.

The main two inspirations of The Traveller are the Vashta Nerada from Doctor Who, and the Astronaut from Scriptwelder's game Don't Escape 3. The Vashta Nerada were one of the most unsettling Doctor Who monsters for me, skeletons in spacesuits puppeteered by shadows, looping the last echoes of the person they used to be. And to a degree that's what The Traveller is, a spacesuit controlled by the echo of what was once a human being.

But it's the inspirations from Don't Escape 3 that, whilst less obvious, are the ones that mean the most to me. There's a moment late in the game where you enter the bunkroom of the spaceship, previously inaccessible, and upon turning the light on you're face to face with your own spacesuit, covered in blood and standing empty in the middle of the room.

That moment has stuck with me for eight years, ever since I first saw it. There's something so unnerving about that moment, especially as you initially think you're facing a person who's killed the rest of your crew. But... no. It's your own empty suit.

The emotional weight of that scene is what inspired The Traveller, as well as the concept of travelling to other worlds through unorthodox methods seen in Scriptwelder's other games. To this day those games are one of the few things that continue to unsettle me years after the initial experience, they hit right where my deepest fears are.

The Traveller is intended to be a tragic character, not a scary one, even though their inspirations come from horror. But.. the implications of their existence certainly lean into the cosmic horror spectrum a little. I'm not the best at writing horror, but I absolutely adore it, especially the more inventive medias, and it often finds a way to creep into my work in one aspect or another.

Estabas buscando algas con tranquilidad cuando sentiste como algo nadaba por encima de ti, entraste en estado de alerta y te preparaste para pelear cuando algo o mejor dicho alguien apareció delante de ti, era kai, te calmaste e ibas a irte cuando Kai te sujeto del brazo y rápidamente te extendió algo, bajaste la mirada y viste como tenía una concha rosa en su mano, te quedaste en shock ante eso, no esperabas que te entregase una concha rosa ya que según lo que habías visto él estaba cortejando a Cora, al recordar a Cora volvieron a tu mente las palabras que había dicho de ti y los motivos por los que se te había acercado a ti, sin saber qué hacer y con sentimientos confusos preferiste huir de ahí, asi que mientras huías con la mente confusa y con un leve sonrojo surgiendo en tu rostro no notaste la expresión que tenía Kai en su rostro, si tan solo hubieses notado la escalofriante mirada y sonrisa que este tenía, el ya no estaba dispuesto a soportar más rechazos por parte tuya, serás de él, tendrás a sus crías, serán una pareja y serán una linda familia, oh ya verás.

Había llegado la temporada de apareamiento y aunque la mayoría de sirenas se encontraba afuera buscando pareja para reproducirse o formalizar una unión ahora te encontrabas en tu nido de algas, estabas hecha un ovillo mientras te sumergías en tus pensamientos con respecto a Kai y su intento de darte una concha rosa, admitías que aun tenías sentimientos  románticos hacia el realmente lo sentías como una experiencia maravillosa, el estar con él fue realmente lindo y aunque fue con otros motivos te había hecho feliz pero  también tenías dudas sobre el seguías con ese dolor en tu corazón por lo que había dicho sobre ti.

Mientras te encontrabas en tus pensamientos no te habías dado cuenta de cómo alguien  había entrado en tu cueva y ese alguien era Kai estaba dispuesto a que por cualquier medio pasaras esa temporada de apareamiento con él para que asi una vez que resultases embarazada permanecieras a su lado ya que en ese estado serias muy vulnerable para los demás depredadores y se te sería muy difícil el moverte para conseguir comida, pero descuida él te protegería y te brindaría comida deliciosa.

Ingreso con mucho cuidado para no alertarte y cuando estuvo cerca de ti se abalanzo encima tuyo haciendo que te sobresaltaras, trataste de3 librarte pero no podías su fuerza de tiburón blanco era admirable y superior.

Él te hizo callar y trato de tranquilizarte con los suaves chillidos que emitía, lo cual funciono, una vez ya calmada te voltea para que estuvieras cara a cara y hablaran con tranquilidad.

Antes de que pudieras decir algo Kai comenzó hablando de lo mucho que te amaba u admitió que aunque en un principio se había acercado a ti con otras intenciones y el hecho de que te había usado para mejorar en sus tácticas de cortejo, cada palabra que te decía te hizo revivir ese dolor que sentiste el día  que te enteraste de todo, mientras te consolaba con mimos no dejo de hablar, siguió contando el cómo comenzó a sentirse vacío después de que te alejaste de él y como comenzó a extrañarte, para por fin darse cuenta que te amaba, mientras él hablaba soltaba sus feromonas para que te rindieras ante él, comenzaste a sentirte mareada hasta que en un momento dado sentiste como tu visión se volvía negra para asi caer inconsciente.

Había pasado un tiempo y te encontrabas con una gran y redonda barriga, estabas próxima a dar a luz, al final kai había ganado logro dejarte embarazada y establecer un lazo contigo, ahora se encontraba cazando para ti, él se aseguraba de tu bienestar, se encontraba muy orgulloso por ser padre y a pesar de tu rechazo inicial hacia él no te dejo de otra que quedarte con él y amarlo.

Kai vuelto te trajo peces deliciosos, mientras el te rodeaba con sus brazos y te llevaba al nido donde ambos dormían, ambos se encontraban en la que era tu cueva como era grande la habían modificado para que pueda albergar a su futura y gran familia, ya en el nido Kai comenzó a darte de comer una actividad que disfrutaba hacer con gran deleite.

Kai se sentía muy feliz con su vida actual y aunque a veces pensaba en que no querías esto no estaba dispuesto a dejarte ir; algo que Kai no sabía es que lejos de detestar tu vida actual no estabas más que satisfecha con como resultaron las cosas porque estas muy segura de su amor por ti después de todo ese cuerpo destrozado de sirena pez ángel que encontraste en estado de descomposición hace algunas semanas te demostró hasta donde es capaz de llegar por ti.

Ape Vs Cosmic Pie

Context under the fold.

There comes a time in the AI-assisted comics production process when you have to figure out what the robot can do.

When re-making my Hostess Fruit Pie Ad parody style transfer collage-comic into a AI-illustrated collage-comic, recreating Judge MenTaul tearing into the cosmic fruit pie was a process.

For example, the word "pie" overrides the context of "hostess fruit" in prompts, so if you type in "hostess fruit pie sitting on a white table" you'll get something far, far more upscale:

And not remotely accurate. Dall-E 3's are even more surrea for having the packaging with semi-accurate branding, and the implication that the hostess is part of the filling (probably due to DE3's bias-correcton method of "Add a person descriptor randomly to the end of prompts):

If you want a Hostess Fruit Pie, you have to prompt for an empanada. (I went through a lot of pastry terms figuring that out.)

Going for the full shot in one prompt is almost always a fail, though the malformed concepts from the attempt make it worth it. for the final shot, the hands, pie, filling, ape, and head all came from different gens, with a lot of modification to each.
