Loving Deacon felt like empty spaces. In the moments they stole together, when it was just the two of them, it was electric. Warmth spread from even the faintest touches. MacCready tried so hard to be understanding. Deacon was a spy, he knew that going in. Secrecy was kind of a big deal, and MacCready was far from subtle. Everyone at Goodneighbour knew the merc, and his name spread far across the Commonwealth. His signature look made him easy to pick out in a crowd. Deacon had explained it to him several times, and he really did try to understand. However, it still ached whenever he’d reach for Deacon’s hand, only to have Deacon stuff his hands in his pockets to prevent that from happening.

MacCready loved so openly, yet Deacon could only love behind closed doors.
