There are several options for why death got its braid . It is worth starting with Ancient Greece, where the god of death Thanatos was portrayed with a sword, wings and a cloak. With his sword, he cut off a strand of the dying man’s hair and carried the soul to the realm of the dead. According to one legend, death comes with a scythe only to ordinary people. To the representatives of the upper classes, she comes with a sword. 1️⃣The Angel of Death, 1890 (oil on canvas) by Morgan, Evelyn De (1855-1919)2️⃣ Death and the woodcutter Painted by Jean-Francois Millet (1859) #glypoteket #copenhagen #denmark #art #travel #artistsoninstagram #artoftheday #explore #instadaily #travelgram #museum #painting #history #story #facts #knowledgeispower #unidals (at Copenhagen Denmark) https://www.instagram.com/p/B51pKaAp3Zm/?igshid=jkqlmm0nrz9j

STUDIO PRACTICE
The main themes I develop on my Studio Practice at Level 6 are Social problems. I focused my attention on the exploitation people at work, hard working lower class and man relationship with nature. The main project of my practice is painting ’’The ghosts of forest’’ which represents forest workers in they daily tasks.
The key word for all practice is ALLIENATION.
All three works represent a different contrast.
First and the most time consuming work of my Practice is painting ‘’The ghosts of forest’’. The characters are painted in hues of gray and white to emphasize border between society and nature. The color of figures symbolize the past and affiliation to the system of forest industry.
None of the workers pay attention to the beauty of nature around them or even talk to companions but only focus on future earnings and to fulfill the duties. The painting is kind of homage for my hard working parents especially for father who worked as woodcutter through nearly all his life.
The painting shows landscape of pine forest in early morning. The black and white contrast not only distinguishes working society from the colorful nature but show the materials that has already been cut off, destroyed.
Second work developed on my Studio Practice is Adobe Photoshop collage of forest industry since early axe usage until advanced machines. By doing this project I would like to show the process of simplifing our work for the prize of destroing the nature.
As in another works I used black nad white characters contrast. This contrast symbolizes transience and lack of human respect to the nature in gradual industrial development.
’’ We have forggotten how to be good guests, how to walk lightly on the earth as its other creatures do’’.
-Barbara Ward
Both works painting and graphics symbolise the man dependence from nature but also lack of respect for the environment.
Third work is cement and plaster cast of building with mini figures placed in the rooms. The alienation and contrast in this work is depicted by separating rooms with walls and the role of individuals varies.
Each separate situation depicts contrast that the viewer can imagine and preceive in their own ways. The artwork shows different attitudes of life and how different we are.
The sculpture shows extreme problems and emotions of individuals like: happines, hate, loneliness, joy, labor, sadness, desire or death.
For some of my friends the sculpture is associated with a dollhouse where someone set the role and position of each character.
TECHNIQUES AND PROCES
PAINTING
I started my painting from drawing characters of forest workers. Then I placed them in appropriate places on the poster of the forest.
The poster with sticked drawings were placed under the transparent plexi glass which is the main surface of painting. That practice gave me opportunity to develope simliar colors, shadows and perspective of landscape.
I refine details step by step to complement whole landscape composition. Subsequently I painted the characters in balck and white tones to emphasize contrast.
Next I painted whole composition with wood warnish that sharpened the colors and protect main surface.
At the end I cutted corners of the slats and fastened frame.
CAST OF BUILDING
As a base for my cast I used wooden tool case. Using cement, wooden boards and cardboards I formed the walls of the lower part of sculpture.
To carve some elements I used knife, nails or grinder to equalize edges.
The most of single elements like furnitures, figures or walls has been formed and painted by hand.
The top part of the platform in contrast to the lower one, was constructed without the use of cement but only from pieces of wood.
PHOTOSHOP COLLAGE
I created this collage using downloaded pictures of forest workers and CS6 Adobe photoshop program.
Using layers and pen tool i cutted working characters and pasted them into picture of the forest.
Then I manipulated the scale of objects to fit it on the panorama and blured difference of landscape using eraser tool.
REASERCH
The first inspiration to do my painting was the works of Jean Francois Millet and paintings ’’The Gleaners’’ 1853 and The Wood Sawyers 1850 (below)
Czesław Wasilewski and ‘’The woodcutters in the woods’’(above) reminded me place in which I grew up and was part of my inspiration for painting.
This picture (above) has been used as a basis to begin work on the painting. I also used pictures of workers searched on internet to draw characters (below).
Making sculpture of building I modeled on architecture art, artists making mini architecture models and railway figures.
I also searched 3D drowings of Mathew Borrett (below)
Satoshi Araki (below) and some of his tutorials gave me few ideas to create details of my cast.
Artists making miniature figures were good inspiration to create my characters. Below art of David Gilliver, Tanaka Tatsuya and Kim Lenenberger
Edward Hopper’s art gave me new look for privet life of ordinary people (below)
For my graphic collage I used pictures of workers, machines and environment copied from internet. I also searched articles and books about history of forest industry.
