I have made some lovely mugs, but I think this one might be my very favourite.
the design was a challenge, but sometimes a carving design will just …ring? like, I hate carving words, it grates, but carving all these ridiculous details (the web, the spider) made my brain hum at the right frequency
Special thanks to my friend, who made this masterpiece skull, to my father for helping with video and to all my buddies from lake fandom! I guess, I will show more photos later (or who knows)
In no particular order have some tales from the sketchbook. I am vicious to myself about the quality of my own work; I think I need to learn to care a lot less and just allow whatever I want to draw/ink to be. Not everything has to floor my community. That's a one way ticket to BurnOut Town.
I don't know where I got the idea from that people only want to share in exceptional top-tier work. That's not what art is for.
Found a perfect muntjac buck by the side of a country road but I had no space/tools. I moved him away from the road into some bushes so the buzzards, ravens and foxes could eat safely and I could return at a later date. 7 months later I returned and luckily found all of this! I need to put more time aside for skulls again so looking forward to cleaning him up.
I saw the ribs sticking up out of the leaves first and went over to check them out then saw the skull laying a few feet away. He broke off most of one tine while in velvet but there’s still enough of it left for him to count as a 10 pointer.
(I posted these before but some of them weren’t high quality pics)
I have a couple sketches for more of these, but I find these pieces in particular difficult to plan out. with this series I tend not to be satisfied with my first 5-10 sketches lol, when for most of my work it's 1-3 sketches before I'm happy. not sure why
