Choose the Right Care for Your Elderly Loved One
Do you have elderly loved ones who are beginning to have trouble with activities of daily living (ADLs)? Many families in Pennsylvania and Delaware face the challenge of selecting the best caregiving services for their senior parents and they have various options available to them: private home care agencies, retirement homes, nurse visits, moving them into homes with family members, or some combination of these. A private in-home care agency is often the most beneficial choice for numerous reasons.

Consider Your Senior’s Physical and Mental Needs
This important decision should be made by the entire family, if possible, to get the most feedback and to ensure everyone agrees on the course of action. Your elderly relative should be part of this process and be informed of new discussions and decisions.
You should sit down and ask some serious questions about the state of their health and their current ability to care for themselves:
Are they still generally able to perform day-to-day functions, such as cooking and cleaning? What tasks cause them trouble?
What health problems are beginning to appear, and how are those affecting their day-to-day lives?
Are there elements in their home, such as stairs, beginning to pose a physical danger?
What is the status of their finances? Can they pay for their own care, or will the family need to assist?
How is their mental state and their memory? Are there signs of deterioration?
What options are available in your area? Services such as elderly home care or on-call private nurses are unavailable in some areas.
Also, look at your own condition: physically, mentally, and financially. Challenges in this area can dictate some of your options.
Compare Your Senior Care Options
Depending on the condition of your loved one, you could have several different options to choose the right care for your loved one.
Finding Aging In Place Housing
In many cases, a smaller home without stairs is all a physically-challenged older adult needs to remain self-sufficient. In addition, you and your loved one may agree to find a home located close to family, so help and companionship are more accessible.
Moving Seniors Into Family Members’ Homes
This choice is often the preferred option because family members want to be able to take care of everything for their elderly loved ones. Though this option may seem less expensive and more convenient, this full time caregiving can exact significant mental and physical tolls from family caregivers.
Retirement Villages
Less restrictive than traditional “nursing homes,” these villages function more like gated communities but have specialty services on-call 24/7. However, the expense of this housing option can be prohibitive.
Full-Care Retirement Homes
When loved ones have moved beyond being able to care for themselves, family members sometimes choose this fully assisted-care environment.
Elderly In Home Care
In home care for elderly loved ones is often a good balance, bringing the level of care needed to allow loved ones to stay in their own homes. Professional home care providers can come to their homes to help manage daily task, take them to doctor visits, and provide companionship. This type of service can also be helpful for family caregivers who still work or need some assistance with their elderly loved ones’ care.
Benefits of Private Home Care Agencies
Private in-home care offers personal care services that allow your loved ones to remain in the comfortable and familiar environment of their homes, or in the home of a family member. This type of care can bring immense peace of mind to older adults and their families, relieving them of the stress and worry that often accompany the decision to seek outside care.
Here’s why private in-home care is a great option compared to other types of care:
1. Personalized and Tailored Support
With private in-home care, the services are tailored specifically to meet the unique needs of each individual. Whether they require assistance with daily tasks, medication management, or dementia care, customized care plans are implemented to enhance their quality of life. This personalized approach is a hallmark of in-home caregiving.
2. Maintaining Independence
For many seniors, the ability to stay in their own homes represents independence and dignity. In-home eldercare ensures seniors can continue their daily routines and control their lives while receiving the necessary support. This kind of care significantly boosts their emotional well-being and happiness, empowering them to maintain some control over their lives.
3. Continuity and Consistency
Working with private home care agencies offers the advantage of having a consistent caregiver, which helps build a trusting and supportive relationship. This consistency is often lacking in institutional settings such as nursing homes or assisted living facilities. Our caregiver agencies ensure that each client receives dependable and dedicated care.
4. Companionship and Emotional Support
Apart from providing physical care, in-home caregivers also offer essential companionship. Loneliness can be a significant issue among seniors, and having a friendly and compassionate caregiver around can make a world of difference to their mental health and provide them with the emotional support they need.
5. Flexibility and Convenience
Private in-home care is designed to be flexible. Caregivers can adapt to your loved one’s schedule and make necessary adjustments as their needs evolve, from respite care to full-time long-term care. This flexibility includes various services and locations, such as disability care for adults or senior home care in Main Line, PA and in Delaware counties.

Unlocking the Workforce: Tackling Childcare Obstacles for Employee Reintegration
In today's fast-paced and competitive job market, the importance of childcare in the workplace cannot be overstated. As companies strive to attract and retain top talent, addressing childcare obstacles is essential for unlocking the workforce's full potential. Employee reintegration after parental leave or caregiving responsibilities often presents challenges related to childcare, and organizations must proactively tackle these obstacles to ensure a smooth transition back to work for their employees.
Tumblr media
One primary challenge working parents face is securing reliable and affordable childcare options. The availability of childcare facilities, the cost of services, and the quality of care provided are all factors that can significantly impact a parent's ability to return to work. Employers can be crucial in addressing these challenges by offering childcare support programs such as subsidies, onsite childcare facilities, or flexible work arrangements that accommodate parental responsibilities.
Flexibility in work schedules is another crucial consideration for parents returning to the workforce. Balancing work commitments with childcare duties requires a degree of flexibility that traditional 9-to-5 schedules may only sometimes accommodate. Employers can empower parents to manage their work and family responsibilities more effectively by implementing flexible work hours, telecommuting options, or compressed workweeks.
Furthermore, fostering a supportive and inclusive work culture is paramount in addressing childcare obstacles. Employees should feel comfortable discussing their childcare needs with their employers and colleagues without fear of judgment or stigma. Resources such as employee assistance programs, parental leave policies, and access to childcare referrals can demonstrate an organization's commitment to supporting working parents.
Another aspect to consider is the impact of childcare responsibilities on career advancement and professional development. Many working parents, particularly mothers, may face challenges pursuing career opportunities due to caregiving responsibilities. Employers can mitigate this barrier by offering mentorship programs, leadership training, and networking opportunities that enable parents to continue their career growth while balancing family commitments.
Additionally, promoting awareness and advocacy for family-friendly policies at the organizational and legislative levels can contribute to a more supportive environment for working parents. By partnering with advocacy groups, lobbying for policy changes, and actively participating in community initiatives, employers can help shape the broader landscape of childcare support and advocacy.
Addressing childcare obstacles is crucial for unlocking the workforce's full potential and promoting inclusivity and diversity. By implementing supportive policies, fostering a culture of understanding and flexibility, and advocating for family-friendly initiatives, employers can successfully empower parents to navigate the challenges of balancing work and childcare responsibilities. Ultimately, investing in child care services in Central Delaware is beneficial for employees and essential for driving organizational success and cultivating a thriving workforce.

Audiobooks on Spotify Premium
Recommended by Dana Rae Davisson, Clinical Practice Director, Delaware, Teacher Prep Description/Review: I absolutely love to read!  And, as a working caregiver, I often feel limited by my time, attention, and environment.  My typical quiet time to read is after the kiddos are in bed and before I pass out from exhaustion.  That equates to approximately one or two chapters in a fiction novel.  And forget about non-fiction or autobiographies...my weary brain lost the stamina to read those genres shortly after having my first child. So it was a tremendously pleasant surprise when I discovered that my Spotify Premium account - something I've had for at least two years - includes 15 hours of audiobook listening time!  In less than a month, I have devoured THREE autobiographies including Britney Spears's ""The Woman in Me,"" Tom Segura's ""I'd Like to Play Alone, Please,"" and Pamela Anderson's ""Love, Pamela.""  I'd recommend all of these titles, by the way.  I find that autobiographies and non-fiction can be consumed in small chunks, so I squeeze it in during drive time, walks and working out, and while getting ready for the day.   I still enjoy my hard copy fiction book reading every evening.  And this service has reinvigorated my reading practice and reconnected me with two genres that I had long ago put aside. Recommended Audience: Everyone (whether or not they work in education)

Respite care is the temporary help that professional caregivers offer patients so primary caregivers can take a break. Caregivers can arrange this type of care to accommodate their caregiving duties.

This text highlights the ongoing mistreatment of women, particularly those with disabilities and non-white women, by certain individuals who identify as good Christians. Black Indigenous women continue to face harmful stereotypes, being portrayed as hypersexual and uncivilized, with little consideration for their roles as mothers and caregivers. These women are subjected to sexual assault, exploitation, and even murder.
During the 116th congress, a bill was proposed prior to the Covid-19 outbreak that aimed to reintroduce eugenics, specifically targeting women with dark skin for permanent sterilization. This proposal was based on the false notion that the high crime rate could be attributed to children with dark skin.
Unfortunately, little progress has been made in our country, and it is unlikely to change unless Black individuals cease protesting and instead take action that truly impacts America. One effective measure would be to refrain from spending money outside of the Black Community.
There are alternative ways to live independently from mainstream systems, such as power, water, internet service providers, and wireless and network capabilities. I personally own my own ISP and WISP companies and am willing to provide free guidance to anyone interested. It is crucial that we establish services for our community, reducing our reliance on external sources.
Black Women can also benefit from a venture capital group specifically designed to provide financial support for new startups or existing businesses that may be undercapitalised.

Two Cities in Pennsylvania Rank among the Rudest Cities
When considering the cities in the United States that may be viewed as impolite or unpleasant, what names spring to mind? It is evident that population, climate, and general disposition are highly correlated, and this holds true for the two cities in Pennsylvania that have made the list. Business Insider has compiled a list of Pennsylvania's most discourteous, or rudest, cities, with Philadelphia ranking 9th and Pittsburgh coming in at 23rd. It is interesting to note that the most uncivilized city in the entire country is New York, New York. Los Angeles, Washington, D.C., Chicago, Boston, Detroit, and Buffalo follow closely behind, all making the list of the rudest cities in America. However, this is just based on surveys, and it's subjective based on the people who answered the surveys. Read more.

Reasons to Choose a 24-Hour Home Care Service
When a senior loved one is in a situation where they need around-the-clock supervision, some might assume the only option is a nursing home. Fortunately, an alternative exists – 24-hour home care services. Rather than taking a senior to a nursing home, you can bring qualified and compassionate care to them instead! In-home care services can provide a better option for seniors and their family members.
Tumblr media
Five Benefits of 24-Hour Home Care Services
1 – Remaining in a Familiar Environment
As people age, leaving the comfort and familiarity of their homes can be quite daunting, especially when one has lived there for decades. The thought of having to leave behind their possessions and memories can be difficult, particularly when they are moving to a nursing facility.
In-home care allows seniors to receive high-quality care while remaining in their homes. Our 24-hour home care service in Philadelphia, PA and Delaware provides seniors the support needed to maintain their independence and sense of normalcy.
2 – Maintaining Quality of Life
Receiving in-home care is an excellent way for seniors to maintain their independence and stay engaged in their day-to-day activities. In-home care allows seniors to continue their daily routine without interruptions, which contributes to their mental well-being. Seniors can maintain their relationships and social circles, which is vital for seniors living alone or with limited mobility.
In-home care is also beneficial for seniors’ physical health. Professional caregivers can assist with daily living activities, such as bathing, dressing, grooming, and other personal care tasks. Our compassionate caregivers are continuously trained to help seniors with these tasks, helping reduce the risk of falls and other accidents common among seniors living alone. Moreover, caregivers can provide medication reminders, which helps seniors who are managing chronic conditions.
In addition, in-home care providers can help seniors remain engaged with their hobbies and interests, such as reading, gardening, or painting. Caregivers can also accompany seniors on outings, such as walks in the park or visits to museums, which can help seniors remain active in their communities, maintain their cognitive function, and reduce feelings of loneliness and isolation.
3 – Safety
When a senior receives care services at home, their home caregiver can help them with their daily activities and ensure they can move around the house comfortably. However, there are times when the home environment may pose a risk to seniors, and family members may need to make some adjustments to maintain their safety.
One way to enhance the safety of seniors at home is to retrofit their homes with safety devices. These devices can include grab bars, rails, and non-slip flooring, which can help prevent falls and slips. Additionally, installing smoke and carbon monoxide detectors can alert someone in the event of an emergency
4 – Personalized Care
In-home care allows seniors to receive personalized, special care from trained professional caregivers. These caregivers take the time to get to know the seniors’ needs and preferences, developing customized care planning schedules and routines to meet their unique requirements.
In-home caregivers are equipped to assist seniors with various daily activities, including grooming, meal preparation, medication management, and light housekeeping. Caregivers can also provide companionship, engage seniors in stimulating activities and hobbies, and help them maintain a sense of independence and dignity.
In addition to providing care inside the home, caregivers may take seniors out for activities and errands, such as grocery shopping, attending doctor’s appointments, or even just going for a walk in the park. This helps seniors maintain a sense of connection to their community and enjoy a more fulfilling life.
5 – Peace of Mind
Knowing that your loved one is receiving the best possible care and attention, you and your family can have complete peace of mind. Our team of experienced caregivers is dedicated to providing top-notch care to seniors, ensuring they feel comfortable and secure at all times.
Moreover, you are always welcome to visit your loved one in their home, allowing them to remain in their familiar surroundings. This can be especially beneficial for younger grandchildren, who may find interacting with their grandparents at home easier. Our team understands the importance of family connections. Round-the-clock adult home care services encourage families to maintain regular visits, significantly improving seniors’ quality of life.

Disgusted
I'm trying to maintain composure, especially when the person is trying to help.
Let me be clear. I have contacted everyone from 211 to Hope House, Salvation Army, Delaware Public Housing, Delaware State Service Center, The Housing Alliance, and the list goes on. I have several pages worth in my notebook of places/people I have reached out to, including dates and times as well as info I was given.
One of the most annoying things I came across is people telling me to contact so and so or such and such cus they will definitely help us. So when I do reach out I am told that they can't help us. Over and over and over again.
The state did help us for a few months out of the funding from Covid. Guess what? That funding ran out. We already received help from TANF. Again, it ran out.
There is a huge housing crisis in Delaware. Many many families are homeless not just us. The problem is that in this state, they consider $27,000/yr the poverty level. What happens to those like me who are drastically below the poverty level? We fall in the cracks. We do not qualify for low-income housing in this state. We simply do not have the income that is required. We don't even have the money to pay for the credit/criminal checks which run anywhere from $35-50 depending on where you are applying. None of that money is refundable.
Yes, I have applied to public housing here. We have been on the waiting list for Delaware Housing Authority for 23 months. When I initially applied, I was told the waiting list would be 1 1/2 to 3 yrs long.
That's the other issue. No matter where you apply, the waiting lists are 3 + years long. We are homeless now. We need help now.
Dave even tried to get a job. He's not supposed to work because his left knee is shot and he has to have a full knee replacement. He has to wear a knee brace all the time to his orthopedic doctor's orders. He cannot walk without it.
Do you want to know how bad things are? Dave applied to be a bell ringer at the Salvation Army. They told him no. They also said he was an insurance risk. Everywhere he has applied to has told him the same thing. So yes, he has begun the application process for disability, but that takes months to years to go through if it does go through.
Through all of this horror, we had to send our youngest daughter to her friend's house. We didn't want her to have to deal with being homeless. She's in 10th grade and needs to stay focused on her schooling and not have to worry about living out of a van. We didn't get to spend Thanksgiving with her not that we really had a Thanksgiving to begin with. Having our family split up hurts so much.
I would also point out that I am disabled. Due to my mobility issues, my eldest daughter, #helly-watermelonsmellinfellon is my caregiver. She doesn't have a driver's license, so she cannot get a job at Uber or Doordash. Besides, we live out of the van. There is no vehicle for her to use. Plus, the water pump on the van is going.
#helly-watermelonsmellinfellon is doing what she can with her ko-fi. It's a good thing my kid can write her socks off.
