Abhi na jao chod kar ke dil abhi bhara nahi.....
[ ram x female reader ]
Tumblr media
summary - when your husband loves you too much that it started to get visible in every action of his and the heart cherishes the feeling of unconditional and hopeless long lasting bond you both share... [ fluff lots and lots of fluff ]
-------------------------------------------------------------
No one's p.o.v.....
The sun started to set earlier than the usual in Delhi these days.
winters striked the capital quicker and the atmosphere was causing the bones to get freezed in the chilly air. it looked like mother nature was having mood swings these days.
the greenery of the distant rooftops shined because of pearl drops of dew covering them.
Green plants looked refreshed and newly bloomed flowers attracted bees in such a surreal way that the atmosphere looked heavenly .
Sun provided enough warmth but not that enough to get rid of the cold that was threatening to put the body on freeze.
Distant rooftops glowed like blush pink loaves of bread scattering the hue of reddish and orange tint across the wet pavement of the roads shined through the street lamps illuminating the wet cold roads, as if making it look like engulf in flames.
the faint noises of kids playing under the giant black sky .
and the mothers and women of houses wrapped up in warm shawls shared evening talks with a cup of chai in their hands while watching over their kids.
the capital looked quiet peaceful and it looked like everyone was contented and happy as a peaceful environment engulfed everything and everyone.
whereas the men were engrossed in talking about how the world was changing and the politics was taking place in the changing world of cultures and traditions.
the brown eyed man walked silently sighing taking a deep breath lost in the void of his mind the never ending silent thoughts of his made him get trapped inside his own head. as he came across the door of his house as he stepped inside taking a small shaky breath a sense of calm and serenity passed his quiet yet loud mind .
the smell of sandalwood and jasmine hit his nostrils making him feel very calm and relaxed all of a sudden as a big yet tired yet so beautiful smile spread across his face, as if his soul found its solace all of a sudden the smell always ready to send him in comfort providing so much comfort and warmth that he just wanted nothing but to immerse himself in it.
his exhausted eyelashes closed as his irises dilated a bit searching for certain someone he needed after such a tiring and bad day that was the person his heart craved the presence of and soul surrendered to. passing through the living room he sighed as the familiar warmth of his home the essence of his comfort zone fit in a comfortable silence echoed inside the walls of his house.
his eyes desperately and impatiently searched for his wife.. as he came inside the another room and passing through the dining hall he found her and his steps halted a bit, and breath hitched in his throat.
as if every time he saw her he fell in love with her all over again it was always visible in his actions and behavior that how much he loved his wife his ardhangini his better half and his forever.
he loved her so much that sometimes it physically hurted sometimes she was his heaven on earth and his only thing to be his everything. he always prayed and wished to vishwanath watching upon him to keep his wife safe and healthy he always prayed for her well being because she was all that mattered .
that always made sense' that only made and keep him sane no words in the world were capable and beautiful enough to describe the love Ram felt for his wife, if he could give her one thing in life it was always going to be the ability to see herself through his eyes only then she could be able to realize that how special she was for him. and what her existence meant in his life.
because at the end of the day she was the person he wanted to come home to, the person he wanted to tell how his day went, the person he wanted to share his happiness, sadness, the frustration and success the sorrows and everything with she was his comfort place after all.
they were arranged it was all just awkward and strange in the start but she was enough she was the one he always needed she was doing amazing things to him.
she had a smile that could easily change the world, that could do more than she could ever think of and more she was always more than she thought.
he knew he might not be able to tell her everyday but she meant the whole world to him the day she stepped her lakshmi like steps in his life changing everything for forever for something meaningful and beautiful .
he never realized how much she felt like home to him until he found himself thinking about ho much he wished she could be with him the times hadn't been.
thinking about how he wanted to experience every damn kind of emotions ups and downs and problems and adventures of the life, the fight he had for his land for his people for his nation with her by his side the saying -
" home is whenever i am with you" had never been more clearer to him . she as his home and he was homesick without her.
She made him feel human again, her touch, her laughter her breath everything showed him what it was like to be a person a living breathing human being.
she came into his life at a time when it looked like everything was going to be finished when everything was against him, everything would kill him. She showed him everything he had to live and fight for.
In that short period he called her his she made him feel like there were galaxies in his veins, and the stars made their home in his eyes.
He was forever grateful for the universe and the Vishwanath for bringing her to him for being his wife his better half his everything.
his hopelessly in love with my wife demeanor was factually visible in that sweet smile of his, the loose lazy relaxed walking and a calm look in his chocolaty brown eyes.
that seemed to shine even more now seeing his priyatama looking like an enchanting apsara.
she looked like a blooming flower refreshing and soothing despite coming from such a cold weather just entering in the house seeing his wife made all his senses wash away.
like a wave of sea taking away everything ready to hold him in the home of her arms kiss his forehead lovingly and hold his hands in hers never letting him go. saving him from the world saving him from himself. from the demons inside his own head.
"Ram?" he snapped out from the reverie of his thoughts upon hearing the sweet soothing voice reaching to his ear like honey being poured right into his ear drums.
he was definitely unconditionally, irrevocably, and hopelessly so in love with the woman standing there in a red saree.
he gave her a big beautiful smile of his which was only reserved for her to see. because no one else in this whole world had the capability of making ram feel such way the way his wife made him feel.
his heart swelled with joy, seeing her lips stretching in the same grin as soon as her eyes found her husband .
The one her heart and soul yearned for and the one she was surrendered to.
The red cotton fabric hugged her body as if the cloth was made only for her. increasing the vibrancy of her soft tan skin shining under the golden bulb of their bedroom.
And her eyes looked like flames engulfed in fire urging him to lost himself in those kohl decorated beautiful eyes.
putting the clothes down she was folding on the bed .and keeping the already folded ones in the closet she smiled softly at her husband.
walking towards him as he sighed taking a deep breath oh how he could do anything in his power to make her smile like that every moment for his life.
that damn smile his most favorite thing to witness in the whole world whenever she smiled it was like the universe was in peace.
" how was your day bangaram ?" he smiled softly before engulfing her in a sweet tight embrace closing his eyes taking a contended sigh.
the meaning of this hug was unexplainable as it held the emotions he was so bad at expressing sometimes, but was able to make her feel what he actually held for her in his heart.
the sweet smell of gandharraj and sandalwood the smell of her. that scent that was the reason for his peace of mind and there he stood holding his everything in his arms.
" shouldn't i be asking that question ?" she chuckled hugging him back with the same love and willingness that he did sighing in peace closing her eyes as well. The hug.
This hug... ram held her more tighter he had once read in a novel that it was just about one person . and one day there would be a person who was going to hug him in such a way that all his broken pieces would be fixed back together.
the female was sure of one thing nothing was more right nothing felt more home than being in his arms.
she had seen him she had been with him since day one . though it wasn't like same as now but still he was someone she could tell without doing or saying anything that she was blessed to have him as her partner. if he really thought that he could bear her for the rest of his life she as ready to surrender her soul that was his.
in his eyes she could see ruins of scarred heart mystery tragedies. but for her that was what made him beautiful the way he could bear replicas of his yesterdays, the way he put it in display making him present more vibrant and astonishing and as he was amidst every chaotic day. the one thing she was always fond of was his eyes.
Ram's eyes... those brown almond eyes, he had wonderful eyes not the type which always drowned her in, but the type which made her feel a little more alive.
the one's which always looked cold but deep inside give warmth they were beautiful they made her beautiful . but sometimes beneath those long lashes and brown irises she could see the emotions or the things which he never told.
some fears, and some regrets the silence narrated stories with the soft roaring waves, it held so many secrets so many lies as well which he hated to tell as well.
something that was imperfectly perfect for her she found herself falling like never before . she found something in his nothing something she needed to hold on some fears some tears and some illusions maybe that she never wanted to end.
she held him letting him take his time she knew he didn't like speaking all together but took time in pieces. so she just hugged him not saying anything letting him hold her. she caressed his hair locks running her soft fingers through them.
" had a bad day ?" she whispered softly rubbing his back soothingly while he just sighed nodding a bit pulling her more close if possible the woman in red smiled a bit " its okay you are okay everything is fine" she smiled.
her words calmed him down actually as he broke the hug holding her shoulders giving her a soft nod " what about you ?" he asked she knew he didnt wanted to talk about it, so she didn't forced him to.
that's the thing Ram admired most about her she never forced him or pestered him to do something he didn't wanted to, and always supported him in every decision of his . she knew when to stay silent when to not ask much about anything and when to just listen to him.
" working on a new article they are confiscating the plantation fields of farmers in eastern side making estate businesses for the company illegally that's what i am working on. "
she told him smiling a bit her eyes were tired but an exhausted smile still played on her lips. this was the another thing Ram loved about his wife she was independent.
and she knew to speak about bad and unjust he always supported her decision of working even when society didn't liked and let women work outside of the house.
so being the senior editor in newspaper publications . the male couldn't be more happier and proud of his wife. she was perfect in every possible way and working for better causes for their motherland in fact even encouraged other women as well .
he frowned a bit " are you tired bangaram ? is the work being too much ?" he asked in a soft tone caressing her cheek looking down at her.
she shook her head shaking her head " no i am fine don't worry " she chuckled giving him a reassuring look patting his cheek as he nodded a bit he knew she could get exhausted by working all day, and then doing the house chores as well .
Ram was never a person who acted like that dominant husband giving orders to their wives he was always so supportive and helpful.
he always helped his wife in household work and that increased the love and respect she had for him . More than she could ever imagine from cooking and cleaning to everything he always was a big help and the female couldn't be more lucky for having such a perfect man like Ram.
" you get fresh i will serve the dinner " she nodded walking towards the kitchen to serve the dinner, but he caught her wrist pulling her back shocking her through the core as she baffled looking at him with wide eyes .
" ram!' she exclaimed in surprise and shocked tone not expecting this from her usually shy husband he chuckled wrapping an arm around her waist .
" stay for a bit ?" he asked softly looking in her eyes giving her a tender smile before laying down on the bed putting his head on her lap. she looked down flushing more red sighing taking a deep breath running her hands through his hair giving him a smile .
" guess we both are tired ?" she asked looking down at him while he hid his face in her torso as her saree felt so comfortable isn't that what he wanted to live for all his life?
he felt so serene and calm . " we do" he nodded muttering softly while she chuckled " well my husband i need to prepare dinner let me go" she tried cupping his cheek .
while he looked up at her smiling looking at her with so much love and affection, that she turned away smiling slightly shaking her head as her cheeks turned a shade of red .
" god you look so beautiful when you blush " he whispered making her sigh " stop it now okay ?" she look at him as her lips threatening to break into a shy smile.
" can't help it when i got such gorgeous wife ?" he said tucking a strand of her hair behind her ear going all in awe with the beauty she possessed.
" ram please god " she looked at him giving him an amused smile " okay okay fine" he chuckled getting up sitting and looking at her . " go and get fresh i have put your clothes on the nearby cabinet of washroom" she rushed out so as to not show her blushing face making him laugh .
these small moments were the one's he always cherished . with all his might these moments were the one's that made their life more beautiful and she was the only thing that gave him a reason to live .
oh how his heart always started to throb in his chest whenever she was around and near him she was all he needed to live and survive.
" oh come on its nothing its just some vegetables i can cut them will you stop now ?"
The female put her hands on her hips shaking her head t her husband because he was so stubborn he never listened "its okay let me help its just some vegetables right ? Then what's wrong if I help?" he took the knife and plate from her as the brown eyed female huffed.
She knew he would never listen so she turned back towards the kitchen to fry the fresh pooris.
" You know I like helping you in household chores" she heard him saying as she sighed shaking her head with a smile " and you amuse me sometimes because of how good you are ?" She chuckled kneading a dough of the flour.
When a hand came to get her strands of Hair behind her ear a kiss was being planted on her right cheek. " I am no good I am just doing a normal thing and helping your wife isn't a big deal." he smiled as she turned to look at him her eyebrows raised.
The usual shy husband was acting so bold of a sudden what's wrong suddenly?
Her breath hitched in her throat as her hands stopped their moments and she turned to look at him only to find him already staring shaking her head at his antics. " there is something seriously wrong with you today "
she sighed as hearing that hearty chuckle erupted so many butterflies in her stomach she admired him for a moment. .
" I don't know just found you so pretty today" The female was compelled to roll her eyes to mask her blushing face at that moment . as she put the dough aside giving him a look and turned towards the cabinets to take some other stuff out.
" what do you mean? I don't look pretty any other day then?"
She bit down her lip to not smile as seeing his expressions changed all of a sudden she knew what he actually meant . but wanted to have some fun as well and tease him a bit.
he immediately shook his head in no " no ban-bangaram that's not what i meant" his voice was a bit shaky as the female in red chuckled .
" oh yeah ? then what did you meant ?" she turned to look at him raising her eyebrows leaning against the counter.
Ram's heart throbbed loudly against his chest this was the effect his wife had on him which always took him by surprise.
he sighed looking down opening his mouth to say something again but nothing came out that was when he heard her magical laugh. oh! that laugh he could die to hear that laugh again and again. as it felt like music to his ears.
this was the time of the day when he could easily forget the reality, the guilt, the self hatred, the disgust, all he had for himself. and just melt and surrender himself in the arms of his wife in such a way that reality used to fade like fog somewhere from where he didn't wanted to jump back in.
because that was the life he hated the reality. in which he was being a facade being something he didn't wanted to doing something he didn't had to, how much it took to be that. and how easy it was for the woman in front of him to accept him the way he was and made him feel human and alive again.
" i was pulling your leg jaan relax"
she chuckled shaking her head as a smile broke on his face as well . he didn't even remembered if he smiled as much as he as he did with her ever before.
his life was too much in a dark turmoil before her but she was there to save him to be his sun when he was drowning in rain.
she was mature, independent had a confident aura and a kind smile the most beautiful eyes and most generous and sweetest behavior he really was so lucky that he got a wife like her .
did he needed anything more when he had her ? The answer was no.
the sweet chiming of her anklets echoed in the atmosphere . as she silently served the dinner for both of them. while Ram help her set up the dinner table.
even after she said no countless times her husband was too much of concerned about her that he didn't even let her do the dishes.
all time she just wondered why he was so perfect ? and what she did to deserve someone as perfect and amazing as him.
standing near the window staring at the sky she wrapped her arms around herself .
when he came and hugged her from behind she smiled softly as soon as his arms wrapped around her waist and he put his chin on her shoulder " what is it that my wife is so lost about ?"
she leaned more on to him cupping his cheek from one hand . closing her eyes feeling all the love at the moment his arms were her home as well. whether he liked that or not but she always crave these long hugs.
" that how i got so lucky to have you as my partner of life ?" her voice so soft and slow while her heart increased its pace.
" isn't that something i should be thinking about?" his grip tightened while tone got more calm as if the universe was asleep.
" maybe we both should be thinking about that ?" she whispered turning in his arms putting her hands on his shoulder he took a deep breath before planting a sweet kiss on her forehead giving her a smile " maybe" he answered feeling bliss.
" maybe" she said back hugging him as well. and that was the moment she realized his love was visible in every action of his. and maybe she was just a little more lucky than him.

Indian rover begins to explore moon – DW – 08/24/2023
India's lunar rover began exploring the moon's surface on Thursday as part of the country's Chandrayaan-3 mission.
New Delhi's Vikram lander reached the moon on Wednesday, making India the first country to land a craft on the lunar south pole.
The six-wheeled, solar-powered Pragyan rover will explore the largely unmapped area of the moon and transmit images and scientific data over a period of two weeks. It will examine the mineral composition of the moon's surface.
Cahndrayaan-3 had to orbit the Earth several times to gain speed and took a month to reach the moon.
"Rover ramped down the lander and India took a walk on the moon!" the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) posted on X, formerly known as Twitter.  ...

Light the Fuse and Step Forth
At the Old Delhi Institute of Natural Science and Engineering, after a bit of a panic over a missing student who had merely went on an unannounced diving trip, Professor Iorvan Hal'Ahmat Garaamhan was having some trouble.
His life was boring.
He's 46, single, no kids, a cat, tenure, routine hobbies, and going bald. All his friends are about as boring as him. Except for Ruth, she usually gets the group together for an excursion to touch grass, but she volunteered to help establish a new branch of the institute in East Egypt over the next two years, and she's kind of the glue for their whole friend group.
Maybe he should take a vacation? But where... Earth is Earth - been there, done that; and he's not a fan of space travel either, too many weirdos up there, and really does not agree with all this moon cracking and harvesting business. Seeing footage of them smushing three moons together for that idiotic Death Kebab project really turned him off from all of that space and aliens nonsense.
Noticing a small notebook that had apparently fallen beneath one of the desks, he picked it up to see who it belonged to. It was an unassuming thing with no distinct markings on the outside. As he flipped the cover over, he saw it belonged to a freshmen named Cintra Valkeim, and was about to close it, but a strange line of symbols caught his eye.
"Professor? Is everything alright?" a voice suddenly interrupted his browsing. When did he get to the last page? When did he move closer to the window? Closing the notebook by impulse as he looked up at the voice, it was Cintra. She appeared a little nervous and worried. Putting his professional smile back on, he walked towards her and held out the notebook.
"I believe this is yours. I noticed it had fallen down. Be more careful next time, the cleaning drones don't check ownership themselves and simply dump anything they don't recognize as trash into the lost and found bin." he said as she took the notebook back.
"I will, thank you." She appeared to consider saying more, but closed her mouth and turned to briskly walk away.
Not thinking about it any more, Professor Garaamhan started to pack up his things and head out for lunch, when students for his next class, not due for another hour, started pouring in. Confused, he checked for the time and to his dismay found it had already been over an hour since the previous class ended. Did he really stand around for an hour, transfixed on
What was he doing for an hour?
He picked something up, then said goodbye to a student, but everything in between is hazy. Something was strange, and he didn't like it.
His stomach growled, and he didn't like that either.
Making an executive decision, he quickly scribbled an overly complex task meant for senior students, said anyone who correctly solves this gets extra credit, which immediately got almost all of the sophomores to shut up, sit down, and start working, then he walked off to have a meal.
The next day, as Iorvan was heading for the staff room, he noticed a strange light coming from beneath the closed door of an empty classroom. It was pulsating slightly, like a heartbeat. Without thinking, he put his hand on the handle, but froze before turning it open.
For the briefest of moments, every cell in his body screamed to not open the door. The fear that engulfed him dissipated just as quickly, as a student approached him with a question. They asked something, he answered, both said their goodbyes, and he could not remember what he was doing. Snapping back to reality, he went to the staff room and had a normal day.
That night, going through tomorrows assignments, a notebook with no markings seemed to appear in his stack of documents.
He opened it, noticed a student named Cintra Valkeim was the owner, looked at the scribbles on the side
He awoke in a hospital bed. He felt anemic. His eyes were burning, mouth parched, lips like sand, and a splitting headache made him wish somebody would knock him out cold.
A nurse rushed in as soon as the automated system informed the staff he was awake, delivered the painkillers, and gave him some water. She explained that they found him unconscious in his apartment after the institute and his friends failed to make contact with him for three days in a row. He had been sitting at his desk, and the muscle damage indicated he had remained almost unmoving for the entire time, but fully tensed up.
Three days? What was he doing? He couldn't remember anything out of the ordinary, and when the paramedic who arrived on the scene came by, what she described to him gave no impression of anything different either.
Over the next week, fellow staff, some students he had worked closely with on their thesis projects, and one of his friends came over to see how he is, what happened, etc. Nobody became wiser from any of this. Everything was normal.
After being discharged, he decided to not think too hard about the incident. The stress of a mundane existence got to him, is the explanation he went with.
As he went about his day back at the institute as normal, he walked by a empty classroom that had a strange pulsating light coming from beneath the closed door. He was about to open the door, but noticed he was holding an unassuming notebook in his hand.
"Open the door, please."
A young female voice spoke softly from behind.
He used his other hand to reach for the handle and opened the door and stepped forth into the light.
His world ended. The universe ended. Then it began.
Fast forward to the present.
He is underwater.
The pressure crushes him before he can recognize what is happening.
Then he is underwater again. Not crushed this time.
A voice that is not a voice, more like a decree from existence itself, embeds into his mind. His mind goes blank, and he dies, again.
Once more underwater. The voice is a voice this time.
L E A R N
is all Iorvan understands before passing out, once again.
He steps out of the dark empty classroom and greets Cintra, who was standing behind him earlier.
"I believe this is yours. Third time now, you really need to be more careful about leaving your things behind, Ms Valkeim." he gently reprimands her as she takes the notebook from him again.
"I promise I will, truly. Sorry, Professor Garaamhan. See you later!" are the last words out of her before rushing off to her next class.
Flipping through his own notebook, Iorvan jots down a series of impossible symbols as he walks down the hall to his own next lecture.

Excerpt from this New York Times story:
New Delhi recorded its highest temperature ever measured on Wednesday — 126 degrees Fahrenheit, or 52.3 degrees Celsius — leaving residents of the Indian capital sweltering in a heat wave that has kept temperatures in several Indian states well above 110 degrees for weeks.
In New Delhi, where walking out of the house felt like walking into an oven, officials feared that the electricity grid was being overwhelmed and that the city’s water supply might need rationing.
The past 12 months have been the planet’s hottest ever recorded, and cities like Miami are experiencing extreme heat even before the arrival of summer. Scientists said this week that the average person on Earth had experienced 26 more days of abnormally high temperatures in the past year than would have been the case without human-induced climate change.
Although late-afternoon dust storms and light drizzle in New Delhi had brought hope of some reprieve on Wednesday, the weather station at Mungeshpur, northwest of the capital, reported a recording of 126 degrees around 2:30 p.m. Dr. Kuldeep Srivastava, a scientist at the regional meteorological center in Delhi, said it was the highest temperature ever recorded by the automatic weather monitoring system, which was installed in 2010.
In a statement later on Wednesday evening, India’s meteorological department said the Mungeshpur station was “an outlier compared to other stations.” It said it was assessing whether that station’s recording of a higher temperature than other stations around Delhi was due to an error or a local mitigating factor.
The previous record for the highest temperature, around 48 degrees Celsius — about 118.5 Fahrenheit — was repeatedly crossed in recent days. Three of New Delhi’s weather stations reported temperatures of 49.8 degree Celsius — 121.8 degrees Fahrenheit — or higher on Tuesday, setting a new record even before the 52.3 degree reading on Wednesday afternoon.
For weeks now, temperatures in several states in India’s north have reached well over 110 degrees, and hospitals have been reporting an uptick in cases of heatstroke. In the Himalayan states, hundreds of forest fires have been reported.

I leave a small part of me in everything.
Tumblr media
In every step I take, in every word I say, in every glance, in every hidden note. I like to fantasise about the idea that one day one is willing to search all the puzzle pieces and put them into a mosaic only to discover that there was never once one red incoherent line, that everything put together creates even more question marks instead of removing them.
It may seem odd, but whenever I feel stuck in life I take a walk around the cemetery.
I look at all the different gravestones, sometimes I Imagine what kind of life they had, what kind of person they were.
What they regretted, how many times they fell in love, what kind of thoughts ran through their head in their last moments on this earth.
When I leave, I always feel strangely motivated - because will leave this earth someday, too.
But until then I am alive.
And until then I can create.
Life and death are two sides of the same coin, just as light and darkness.
Sometimes it's important to highlight the other one in order to find meaning in its counterpart.
Go get yourself that pretty bouquet of flowers today the one that makes you happy!

Princeton, N.J. — As I write this, the sun is a hazy reddish orange orb. The sky is an inky yellowish gray. The air has an acrid stench and leaves a faint metallic taste in my mouth. After 20 minutes outside, my head starts to ache, my nose burns, my eyes itch and my breathing becomes more labored. Streets are deserted. The ubiquitous lawn service companies with their machine mowers and whining gas-powered leaf blowers have disappeared, along with pedestrians, cyclists and joggers. Those who walk their dog go out briefly and then scamper back inside. N95 masks, as in the early days of the pandemic, are sold out, along with air purifiers. The international airports at Newark and Philadelphia have delayed or canceled flights.
I feel as if I am in a ghost town. Windows shut. Air conditioners on full blast. The Air Quality Index (AQI) is checked and rechecked. We are hovering around 300. The most polluted cities in the world have half that rate. Dubai (168). Delhi (164). Anything above 300 is classified as hazardous.
When will the hundreds of forest fires burning north of us in Canada — fires that have already consumed 10.9 million acres and driven 120,000 people from their homes — be extinguished? What does this portend? The wildfire season is only beginning. When will the air clear? A few days? A few weeks?
What do you tell a terminal patient seeking relief? Yes, this period of distress may pass, but it’s not over. It will get worse. There will be more highs and lows and then mostly lows, and then death. But no one wants to look that far ahead. We live moment to moment, illusion to illusion. And when the skies clear we pretend that normality will return. Except it won’t. Climate science is unequivocal. It has been for decades. The projections and graphs, the warming of the oceans and the atmosphere, the melting of polar ice sheets and glaciers, rising sea levels, droughts and wildfires and monster hurricanes are already bearing down with a terrible and mounting fury on our species, and most other species, because of the hubris and folly of the human race.
The worse it gets the more we retreat into fantasy. The law will solve it. The market will solve it. Technology will solve it. We will adapt. Or, for those who find solace in denial of a reality-based belief system, the climate crisis does not exist. The earth has always been like this. And besides, Jesus will save us. Those who warn of the looming mass extinction are dismissed as hysterics, Cassandras, pessimists. It can’t be that catastrophic.
At the inception of every war I covered, most people were unable to cope with the nightmare that was about to engulf them. Signs of disintegration surrounded them. Shootings. Kidnappings. The bifurcation of polarized extremes into antagonistic armed groups or militias. Hate speech. Political paralysis. Apocalyptic rhetoric. The breakdown of social services. Food shortages. Circumscribed daily existence. But the fragility of society is too emotionally fraught for most of us to accept. We endow the institutions and structures around us with an eternal permanence.
“Things whose existence is not morally comprehensible cannot exist,” Primo Levi, who survived the Auschwitz concentration camp, observed.
I would return at night to Pristina in Kosovo after having been stopped by Kosovo Liberation Army (KLA) rebels a few miles outside the capital. But when I described my experiences to my Kosovar Albanian friends — highly educated and multilingual — they dismissed them. “Those are Serbs dressed up like rebels to justify Serb repression,” they answered. They did not grasp they were at war until Serb paramilitary forces rounded them up at gunpoint, herded them into boxcars and shipped them off to Macedonia.
Complex civilizations eventually destroy themselves. Joseph Tainter in “The Collapse of Complex Societies,” Charles L. Redman in “Human Impact on Ancient Environments,” Jared Diamond in “Collapse: How Societies Choose to Fail or Succeed” and Ronald Wright in “A Short History of Progress,” detail the familiar patterns that lead to catastrophic collapse. We are no different, although this time we will all go down together. The entire planet. Those in the Global South who are least responsible for the climate emergency, will suffer first. They are already fighting existential battles to survive. Our turn will come. We in the Global North may hold out for a bit longer, but only a bit. The billionaire class is preparing its escape. The worse it gets, the stronger will be our temptation to deny the reality facing us, to lash out at climate refugees, which is already happening in Europe and along our border with Mexico, as if they are the problem.
Wright, who calls industrial society “a suicide machine,” writes:
Civilization is an experiment, a very recent way of life in the human career, and it has a habit of walking into what I am calling progress traps. A small village on good land beside a river is a good idea; but when the village grows into a city and paves over the good land, it becomes a bad idea. While prevention might have been easy, a cure may be impossible: a city isn’t easily moved. This human inability to foresee — or to watch out for — long-range consequences may be inherent to our kind, shaped by the millions of years when we lived from hand to mouth by hunting and gathering. It may also be little more than a mix of inertia, greed, and foolishness encouraged by the shape of the social pyramid. The concentration of power at the top of large-scale societies gives the elite a vested interest in the status quo; they continue to prosper in darkening times long after the environment and general populace begin to suffer.
We will frantically construct climate fortresses, like the great walled cities at the end of the Bronze Age before its societal collapse, a collapse so severe that not only did these cities fall into ruin, but writing itself in many places disappeared. Maybe a few of our species will linger on for a while. Or maybe rats will take over the planet and evolve into some new life form. One thing is certain. The planet will survive. It has experienced mass extinctions before. This one is unique only because our species engineered it. Intelligent life is not so intelligent. Maybe this is why, with all those billions of planets, we have not discovered an evolved species. Maybe evolution has built within it its own death sentence.
I accept this intellectually. I don’t accept it emotionally any more than I accept my own death. Yes, I know our species is almost certainly doomed — but notice, I say almost. Yes, I know I am mortal. Most of my life has already been lived. But death is hard to digest until the final moments of existence, and even then, many cannot face it. We are composed of the rational and the irrational. In moments of extreme distress we embrace magical thinking. We become the easy prey of con-artists, cult leaders, charlatans and demagogues who tell us what we want to hear.
Disintegrating societies are susceptible to crisis cults that promise a return to a golden age. The Christian Right has many of the characteristics of a crisis cult. Native Americans, ravaged by genocide, the slaughter of the buffalo herds, the theft of their land and incarcerated in prisoner-of-war camps, clung desperately to the Ghost Dance. The Ghost Dance promised to drive away the white invaders and resurrect the warriors and buffalo herds. Instead, followers were mowed down by the U.S. Army with Hotchkiss MI875 mountain guns.
We must do everything in our power to halt carbon emissions. We must face the truth that the ruling corporate elites in the industrialized world will never extract us from fossil fuels. Only if these corporatists are overthrown — as proposed by groups such as Extinction Rebellion — and radical and immediate measures are taken to end the consumption of fossil fuel, as well as curtail the animal agriculture industry, will we be able to mitigate some of the worst effects of ecocide. But I don’t see this as likely, especially given the sophisticated forms of control and surveillance the global oligarchs have at their disposal.
The awful truth is that even if we halt all carbon emissions today there is so much warming locked into the oceans deep muddy floor and the atmosphere, that feedback loops will ensure climate catastrophe. Summer Arctic sea ice, which reflects 90 percent of solar radiation that comes into contact with it, will disappear. The Earth’s surface will absorb more radiation. The greenhouse effect will be amplified. Global warming will accelerate, melting the Siberian permafrost and disintegrating the Greenland ice sheet.
Melting ice in Greenland and Antarctica “has increased fivefold since the 1990s, and now accounts for a quarter of sea-level rise,” according to a recent report funded by NASA and the European Space Agency. Continued sea level rise, the rate of which has doubled over three decades according to the World Meteorological Organization, is inevitable. Tropical rainforests will burn. Boreal forests will move northward. These and other feedback loops are already built into the ecosystem. We cannot stop them. Climate chaos, including elevated temperatures, will last for centuries.
The hardest existential crisis we face is to at once accept this bleak reality and resist. Resistance cannot be carried out because it will succeed, but because it is a moral imperative, especially for those of us who have children. We may fail, but if we do not fight against the forces that are orchestrating our mass extinction, we become part of the apparatus of death.
Stop, stop, stop believing America is great. It isn't.

Leaving Canada
After finishing the road trip, the last 2 weeks of September were a whirlwind of activities to sort out things and say goodbye one more time before leaving the country. Although I may have benefited from staying a bit longer, having been on the road for so long made me ready to close off this phase and look forward to the next one, going back home to Europe! 🤩
First priority was to clean everything that I had been traveling with (with thanks to lots of space and a garden hose😁) and then figure out what to put into storage and what to bring as luggage. Initially my intent had been to travel straight from France to Chile, however due to exorbitant one-way air fares, I ended up booking a return ticket back to TO for mid-January.... not sure how this is all going to work out but for now it means that I'm only travelling with one suitcase instead of the 3 that I had already pre-packed. Easier to carry but harder to fit my clothes! 😅
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Second key item was to get my car sold, so I got the car deep cleaned over lunch with Tara... something I've never done but should really have given myself as a gift much earlier! 😄 I thought the guy had done a great job at making my car look brand-new again, but he actually apologized to me as he hadn't managed to remove all bug residue from the grill nor the grit of the endless unpaved roads from the tires...the downfall of such an extensive road trip!
That afternoon, 3 accidents on the QEW highway meant that traffic was jammed for miles around, so I tried to wait it out by visiting the first 2 car dealers to get a sense of their offer... suddenly everything seemed wrong with my fab drive, as it needed new tires, new brakes, a chip in the window etc etc... 😯😪 I recognize the sales tactics for what they were but they still pulled me down, so by the time I got back home after taking 1.5 hours over a 20min drive, I was shaken & thoroughly fed up!
Next day, I toured a few more dealers who all basically said the same and then just cut my losses to get it over with (I must be the worst negotiator on earth! 🤣) ... I absolutely have had an amazing time driving my Rogue and I still loved everything about it, but it was time to say goodbye and move on.
Tumblr media
Being a bit emotional after signing the papers, I drove by my old house in Burlington (where the new tenants are neglecting the pretty roses I had planted 😣) and then sat on my favourite bench in Paletta Park overlooking Lake Ontario. A mere 10 minutes' walk from where I used to live, I would often come here over my lunch break or after work, a great spot to relax! 😊
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Next day, after having handed in the car & safely deposited the cheque at the bank, I was happy to go over to Priyanka & Arnie for a traditional Hungarian dish and meet again with their lovely parents. I first met Priyanka's parents at our MBA graduation over 10 years ago and we've been in touch ever since, having shared many dinners (including with my parents and in Delhi 🤗), theater plays, a powwow and ofcourse the wedding in India! 😍😍
Tumblr media
On Friday, I spent hoouuuurs on the internet and phone to arrange anything from bank accounts & medical insurance to booking flights for my travels in Europe. Felt good to clean house and try to close as many things as possible before leaving. In the evening, we had delicious pizza & craft beer in the "Shed" in downtown Dundas.
That Saturday, it was fun times at the Ancaster Fall Fair with Arpita, Navneet and his cousin Nithia. 🤩 I had never been to a farm fair, which had everything from a hot sauce contest, cow & chicken displays to nitro-chilled snacks and prizes for the prettiest tomatoes, hay bales and funny-looking veggies! 😂 Quite an experience and a great afternoon!
Tumblr media
On Sunday, I went with Heather for a hike in nearby Dundas Valley conservation area, my favourite forest west of the GTA. I've been here so often that I know most trails by heart but this time we walked in from a residential area on the side so that the forest still felt new. 😀
I spent the second week in Toronto where I lived for 11 years - my personal record of living that long in one city! 😊 - and it felt really good to roam the streets (albeit only for a short period of time before the craziness got to me 😫). For four days I crammed in as many friends as I could see, starting with a great backyard dinner with my old team. Having 9 different cultural backgrounds being represented leads to ever-interesting diverse conversations! 😍
Tumblr media Tumblr media
On Tuesday, I had cozy lunch and dinner with my two good friends Kathryn and Lynne, both a bit senior to me hence always providing me with valuable insights that help me put things in a different perspective. 🥰 They're both great examples of how we can continue to have fulfilling lives for many years to come! 😘
Then on Wednesday, a lunch walk with Dana through my old 'hood and the Riverdale Farm, followed by relaxing tea with Natasha, Lance and their mother who I've also known since coming to Toronto and by whom I spent a memorable Christmas in Trinidad & Tobago. 🤩 In the evening, the drinks were tasty as usual when meeting with a loosely connected 😅 but somehow gelling group of Real Estate friends... always a good time!
Tumblr media
On my last day in Toronto, I caught up with Harvey over Indian Roti and then had a few lovely hours at the new Love Park at the harbourfront. My final date was with my camping-sailing-drinking group of friends 😎 at the Queen Mother Café, a downtown thai restaurant where I used to go often in the first years. We're all a bit wiser (?!? 😂) then when we first met years ago but the laughs are still there!
Tumblr media
Tired & having a terrible cold but feeling blessed with all those friendships, I made my way back to Dundas, where I was grateful to spend the last day with Arpita and Navneet, working a bit in the garden and playing the cool card game Dominion at night.
On the 30th September, they dropped me off to the airport, ready to fly home! 💖💖💖

France vs Belgium: A Rivalry in International Football
The football rivalry between France and Belgium is one of the most compelling in European football, defined by mutual respect, thrilling encounters, and a shared footballing heritage. Both nations boast rich histories in the sport, and every time they meet, the clash is eagerly anticipated by fans worldwide. Whether it's a friendly, a qualification match, or a prestigious tournament, the intensity of their encounters always delivers drama and excitement.
Historical Background of the Rivalry
France and Belgium have played against each other over 70 times since their first match in 1904, making this rivalry one of the oldest in international football. Their first-ever encounter ended in a 3-3 draw in a friendly, setting the stage for what would become a century-long sporting rivalry.
Belgium and France are neighboring countries, and their footballing cultures have developed in tandem. Over the years, both teams have witnessed periods of dominance and decline, which has only made their head-to-head battles more intriguing. Belgium has often been viewed as the underdog, while France, with its global footballing stars and major tournament successes, has frequently entered matches as the favorite.
Key Matches in France vs Belgium Rivalry
While many of their encounters have taken place in friendly matches or qualification rounds, there have been a few standout moments in major tournaments that have defined this rivalry.
1. 1986 FIFA World Cup: Third-Place Playoff
One of the first significant clashes between France and Belgium on the world stage occurred during the 1986 FIFA World Cup in Mexico. In the third-place playoff, France, led by the legendary Michel Platini, triumphed over Belgium with a 4-2 victory after extra time. This match saw some high-quality football from both sides, but France's experience and superior skill set ultimately made the difference.
2. 2018 FIFA World Cup: Semifinals
The most notable recent clash came in the 2018 FIFA World Cup semifinals in Russia. Both teams entered the match with incredible form. Belgium had just knocked out five-time champions Brazil, while France had a young, dynamic squad filled with stars like Kylian Mbappé and Antoine Griezmann.
The match was a tense and tactical affair. Belgium controlled much of the possession, with Eden Hazard and Kevin De Bruyne leading the attack, but France’s defense held firm. In the 51st minute, France's center-back Samuel Umtiti scored the game's only goal with a towering header from a corner kick. Despite Belgium's relentless efforts to equalize, France’s defense remained resolute, and Hugo Lloris, France’s goalkeeper, made several key saves. France advanced to the final, where they went on to win their second World Cup, while Belgium secured third place by defeating England.
The 2018 semifinal was more than just a game; it was a tactical masterclass that highlighted the strengths and weaknesses of both teams. France's pragmatic approach, combined with Belgium's flair, made for a fascinating contest that further deepened the rivalry.
Tactical Differences Between France and Belgium
1. France: Tactical Discipline and Defensive Solidity
The French national team is known for its tactical discipline and defensive prowess. Under manager Didier Deschamps, France has developed a well-organized, counter-attacking style that leverages the speed and creativity of its forwards. Players like Mbappé, Griezmann, and Karim Benzema (when available) are key to France’s success in breaking down opposition defenses. France’s solid midfield, often anchored by N'Golo Kanté and Paul Pogba, provides balance, while their defense has been bolstered by players like Raphaël Varane and Presnel Kimpembe.
France’s ability to defend deeply and hit on the counter-attack makes them a dangerous side, especially against possession-based teams like Belgium.
2. Belgium: Attack-Minded Football
Belgium, under manager Roberto Martínez, has cultivated a more attacking and possession-based style. With world-class players like Kevin De Bruyne, Romelu Lukaku, and Eden Hazard in their ranks, Belgium often dominates possession and looks to break down teams with intricate passing and clever movement. Their use of wing-backs and a three-man defense has allowed them to control the width of the pitch, making them a potent attacking force.
However, Belgium’s defense has occasionally been their weakness. Despite the presence of experienced players like Jan Vertonghen and Toby Alderweireld, they have sometimes struggled against teams that are quick on the counter, which France exploited in the 2018 World Cup.
The Golden Generation: France and Belgium
Both France and Belgium are currently experiencing what many refer to as "golden generations" of football talent. For France, the rise of players like Mbappé, Kingsley Coman, and Jules Koundé has ensured their status as a global footballing powerhouse. The team’s blend of youth and experience has made them formidable in every competition they enter.
Belgium’s golden generation, led by De Bruyne, Hazard, and Lukaku, has also achieved remarkable success, consistently ranking among the top teams in the world. However, while Belgium has excelled in reaching the latter stages of tournaments, they have yet to secure a major international trophy, adding a sense of urgency to their future campaigns.
Conclusion: A Rivalry for the Ages
The France vs Belgium rivalry is more than just a battle between two football teams; it's a clash of styles, tactics, and national pride. With each match, the rivalry grows stronger, producing memorable moments that captivate football fans worldwide. As both nations continue to nurture world-class talent, future encounters between these two footballing giants promise to be equally thrilling, with the potential to define new chapters in their storied history.
