First of all, this is incredible. Mason Alexander Park's voice is ... sex on toast.
But also.
Desire singing a song like this - someone performing this song seemingly in the background of a page and then the performer steps into the spotlight and it's Desire, for example - seems like exactly the kind of dramatic irony that messy bitch goes in for. It's perfect.
I'm almost sorry it exists in real life because that means this isn't some sort of weird teaser that @neil-gaiman and Netflix cooked up for s2. But only almost sorry, because holy shit that voice.

Thinking about it, I don't think we've ever actually considered the impact the original Despair dying may have had on Desire. I mean, that was their twin, their other half... Whether or not this new being is still Despair, they come back different. The first Despair is shown to be similar to Desire in having a much more outgoing, talkative, confident personality. They were most likely more of an equal/partner for Desire. The second Despair is passive, quieter, more contemplative and seems to be, if not quite dependant on...(Honestly Despair seems to have the most common sense of the two) Then happy to let Desire lead. Their dynamic intrinsically shifted.
Did the death of the original Despair have an impact on how Desire views and treats mortals/humanity?
Did they become more possessive or flippant in regards to the things they love?
Does their new role of protector rather then confidant of the younger Despair cause them to close off, become harder, colder?
Do they view death with less gravity then they once did? We've played Desire trying to kill Dream as not really intentional. Something that went to far... But what if that was their aim? Maybe they thought, after what happened to Despair, if their relationship with Dream seemed unrepairable. They'd just 'reset' him instead.
There's no way the death of their twin didn't leave a deep impact.

Hi could you do something about desire where the reader stayed a sleep while morpheus was imprisoned then desire invaded the readers dream and they fell in love similar to what happened to unity in the show I’m curious to how life with desire really was while she slept
Desire is not my favorite character of the endless (But well...Let's give him a chance for once.) And first, English is not my first language, I hope you don't mind. And second, I'm a wh*re for fluff/angst.
Words: 753
Warnings: Drama/ Fluffy/angst
Characters: Desire x F!Reader
Tumblr media
1.
Dearest desire
I knew you were there, in the shadows, with eyes tawny and sharp as yellow wine, watching me silently, while I washed away the dirty on my favorite dress.
I was twelve years old when the sickness hit me one night… You know how it goes, right?
A lonely little girl, living in a dreaming world she learned to call home.
2.
I was nineteen when you give me my first kiss.
There was no love in your eyes, or warm in your touch,
but I was in heaven anyway.
I still remember the thing you said to me after, when your hand caressed my right cheek and my body felt like Jell-O:
"Dear mine, what a sight for sore eyes."
If I wasn't the foolish woman
That I am… I would have asked you why.
Maybe, you would have answered me then.
3.
I was twenty-one when I missed my real parents.
Sadly, I haven't been able to tell the difference between the fake ones in the dreaming world.
And that night, I begged you to hug me for a little while.
Dearest Desire,
Your bright yellow eyes finally… were kind for once.
And I understood at that moment why you have a sin for a name, when your skin met my skin and ours lips searched for one another.
Love was what we did.
I refuse to believe otherwise.
4.
I was twenty-five when the house that my parents gifted me
felt too damn big for me alone.
I asked you to live with me.
But Desire belongs to no one, I should have known better.
"Don't make that face, butterfly." you pouted before kissing me.
Not even two days later, you accepted my request.
I still don't believe you really did that, not even now.
5.
I had all of you to myself for five more years.
Day and night.
From breakfast to dinner
again,
again,
and again.
But all this time, you,
my dearest desire
stayed the same.
The one getting old was me.
I was a foolish woman, remember?
I Should have dreamed of me being immortal, too.
6.
When I was thirty years old
and the new things were no longer new things
sex became a routine.
The house bored you to death,
and my kisses did too.
That was when you have the idea of having a kid.
So I said, "No more than two."
7.
When I was Forty-seven,
and our daughter, seventeen
you, my dearest Desire
still young and beautiful,
confessed to me for the first time
how much you love, and cherished the things we did
together in all these years.
"Why are you telling me…"
"Shh… It's a secret between you and me, butterfly."
It felt like a farewell.
Hell, It has one, at least for a while.
8.
I was fifty-nine when you came back.
All my angry yells,
throwing out plates and fury, passed too quickly
for my own good.
Perhaps it was because the house felt too empty
without our daughter here.
Perhaps I missed you a ton.
I don't know, dear...
I'm not the same as I was before.
You kissed me then, softly,
and I felt in heaven.
Exactly the same way years ago, when I was nineteen,
and you kissed me for the first time.
"It's not fair" I said looking at you.
"Desire never is, butterfly."
And dammit, I missed that childish nickname.
9.
We made love one last time.
You embraced me like I was your whole world.
I was old and wrinkled, but you didn't seem to care.
My dearest Desire,
people may say it wasn't love,
that It was a funny experiment…me and our daughter.
Doesn't matter.
I will love her for the two of us, if necessary.
"Goodnight." I murmur on your ear at last.
"Night, butterfly." You kiss my front head, and close your eyes.
10.
I'm sixty-five years old when the dream is over.
And you, my dearest Desire,
is not here to take my hand on the awake world.
Strangely enough, I have a real daughter,
and grandsons to love.
But sometimes, when I'm alone
and I hear nothing but silence,
I feel eyes tawny and sharp as yellow wine
on my back…
Longing the same way I do.
However, when I turn around, there's just shadows and walls instead.
"Where I touch, things want and need and love…" Desire said to me a long time ago.
And maybe, them felt the same with my touch too.

So, as I’ve said on this piece, in the actual Endless Heirs AU Daniel and Wish are platonic, but there is a variant AU where they def have a little Romeo and Juliet thing going on, and I thought I’d share the rest of the doodles I’ve done of that, ranging down in spicyness 😅

The Sandman - Quickfire Thoughts
Tumblr media
So after a series of sporadic binges between Netflix tussles I've finished The Sandman. Having gone into the adaptation of Gaiman's comic fairly blind I had barely any expectations, but here's what I thought of it
Spoilers for the show of course, you were warned
As much as I don't want to invoke the wrath of Gaiman - who also frequents the tumblr - negative points for not fitting Enter Sandman in the entire show.
A strange observation but, is it me but ever since Game of Thrones Charles Dance seems to only do small or low-screentime roles now; Godzilla King of the Monsters, Dracula Untold and now Sandman, he's great but because he's great it's curious that he doesn't do many long-term roles
Dream's casting was great, and props to Tom Sturridge for carrying an aura of menace and power in the first episode while butt naked
One of the very few things I knew of The Sandman comics was ol' toothy eyes, The Corinthian, and boy howdy was Boyd Holbrook fantastic, he's one of the five characters, including Sturridge as Dream, I feel dominates every scene they're in, he's a great charismatic but manipulative villain
The Gregory stuff made me sad, the show did have a fair amount of moments where it's meant to be sad and uncomfortable, but at the same time I don't want to be that sad or that uncomfortable
Liked the river scene, it's super artsy and dark. I wish we had more of that from this series, stuff like in this gif where Dream is as chilling as any nightmare he created, would've liked to see more of the Fates too
I do love some Jenna Coleman, been a fan all the way back since she debuted on Emmerdale, but, it didn't feel like her role in her episode was enough to necessitate the Constantine nod. Jenna could've been a regular sorcerer, or even an immortal Johanna. I dunno I think I just kinda hoped to see Matt Ryan reprise as John, especially since DC is killing the Arrowverse. Maybe DC didn't wanna play ball or Neil has S2 plans for her, but we needed more of Jenna to establish Johanna.
Speaking of potential Season 2, Hell. The Hell Episode was great, mainly because of standout no.3: Gwendoline Christie as Lucifer. Tom Ellis' Lucifer series wasn't something I quite got into, I heard rumblings of it ending dumbly, but Christie's Lucifer is amazingly sinister but in a quiet way, they know who they are so they don't need to threaten, but there is that twinge of sadness and longing that Dream exploits in their Oldest Game
Though 'anti-life' felt like a cheat, I did like the Oldest Game. The wink nudge of Lucifer picking a direwolf but then, by my interpretation, Morpheus choosing hope to corner Lucifer into submitting rather than become something that would diminish their own hope. Matthew the raven gets props as well for giving Morpheus the inspirational pep talk
24/7 was one of those cases where it was a great episode but one I was greatly uncomfortable with, sometimes my own fault like forgetting that Bette's son is in college. But this does explore why John Dee's views on a perfect world is twisted and the Ruby is not safe in his hands, I did feel especially bad for Bette
Oh, John Dee is no.4, David Thewlis man. As much as Dee was unnerving, apathetic, and calculating, Thewlis did a great job in showing the childlike innocence that had been contorted by his sheltered life and manipulation, there is poetic irony that he wants a world of honesty but consistently deceives himself.
Episode 6 was perhaps my favourite, among my comic knowledge was the presentation of Death in Gaiman's story as a joyful punk rock girl who is full of life, Kirby Howell-Baptiste did a great job. I did of course feel extra sad when she approached the cradle, instant thoughts of 'no, not the baby!' in my mind, I don't know enough of her character to wonder if she still feels burdened by the abruptness of some people dying but there can be time for that later
What made it my favourite though was the Hob storyline, it was just nice and wholesome really and it explored more of Morpheus' ever-shrinking distance from humanity
The Vortex storyline I wasn't as sold on as the 'Morpheus reclaims his powers' storyline, it was still good but it did sit in the real world more than the fantasy
I enjoyed the whole house of people and Lyta, and how they all supported Rose in her search for her brother, plus the connection with Unity to merge the storylines together
Probably what made me not so connected to the Vortex storyline in spite of it having the Corinthian be the main villain is the nature of the Vortex, we're told very little about its nature and the 'I don't know' answer does feel weak, she is powerful just because
Morpheus also seems to take two steps back on his character development too, to go from Death telling him that they are not better than humans, should learn to take people's help and him accepting that he and Hob are friends to 'I will use this Vortex, a threat to the dreaming and waking world entirely just to bait some rogue nightmares' and also dismiss Gault's suggestion that even nightmares can change and want did feel like he was undoing his own work
Didn't quite like the Rumpelstiltskin vibe he was giving out with saying he'd come for Lyta's baby too, there could've been at least a bit more compassion or explanation, instead it served as a 'misunderstanding' trope to distance Rose from Morpheus
The ending was solid, albeit one which could've used a bit more explanation. Desire was a character we saw so little of - much like Cain and Abel, whose dynamic reminded me of Hilda and Zelda in Chilling Adventures of Sabrina - and even though we have them outright tell Despair that they are the mastermind of Morpheus' imprisonment and the Vortex arc, we don't actually see any of their actions, just an off-comment by Unity that clocks Morpheus in on the deception.
I feel like, while Gaiman may've intended to keep the audience out of loop, it may've served better to see Desire perform at least one action that guided the plot around, even if it was just to twirl a fake mustache, and explain how they intended to use the Vortex to be Morpheus' undoing, since there seems to be rules for not killing an endless' kin not established in the series (that I recall anyway) was the plan, but since I don't understand what that would lead to it's hard to understand the threat.
Overall I liked it, going in mainly blind I do have my questions but we had a great cast all doing really well, and I want to see more of it, so it laid some strong groundwork we can hopefully build towards.

The love of the Endless
Tumblr media
i’m sharing here what is meant to be the first chapter (out of gods know how many). for now, you may expect angst, alternating POV, soulmate AU undertones and reincarnation related themes 👀👀
gender neutral reader ofc ❣️
for more details and upcoming chapters, hmu on A3O!
~~~~~
A stinging pain where one’s heart should reside, but could the mighty Desire have a heart after all?
What is this feeling, this tearfully painful fire burning from within, begging to be let out, begging not to be suppressed. To scream.
You’re as beautiful as the day they left you. The hair slightly different, clothes suitable for the current human era and yet somehow completely unmistakeable. Completely you.
And you just passed them by, down the street in a pouring rain, just like that, and yet completely knocking Desire of their rhythm. As if time on Earth never existed, as if it never touched you, not even once.
Unaffected by the centuries that passed you both by. Hundreds of years of what should have been only longing and loneliness.
Or maybe you’ve been blessed with the sweet oblivion, leaving your heart free and your mind curious and bright. Just the way you were when they’ve first met you, when Desire crashed right into your conventional little life.
In the darkest of ages, you, a mere mortal, too smart for your own good, too captivating for Desire to resist you.
But could it really be you, after all this time?
After so much time, so many centuries. You should have been… dead.
„Oh! Excuse me sweetheart, didn’t see you there.” Another pedestrian too polite for Desire’s liking. The person was even as blatant to continue speaking but the Endless dismissed their presence entirely.
In the midst of all this astonishment Desire’s powers somehow remained intact. And yet their golden gaze was glued only to you, following your footsteps on the cold damp pavement, persuasive as ever.
But still, they couldn’t draw your attention.
Those piercing eyes were now also a reflection of unfamiliar and undesired desperation.
If their siblings could only see them now, stripped of usual confidence, smirk washed off their face, speechless while their skin burned from within. A sight for Dream’s sore eyes, Desire would think.
Maybe it’s their sibling’s vile trick after all? What if they all teamed up in a cruel payback for the times they’ve been fooled by the power of lust? Did Dream have something to do with this? Were you just a projection, another project of his?
Your pace is fast, you’re in a rush, but where are you going? Do you have a spouse, are you married? Desire should know but feared the answer all the same. You’ve probably been in love a thousand times already ever since they’ve left you. How could they’ve left you…
 That fateful night it was also raining, but the rain was much heavier, practically blocking out any other sound with its monotonous hum. Curtain-like walls separating people from one another on the streets, those who dared to walk outside at least.
Desire’s just exited another one of the feasts held by a local nobleman after they planted another successfully spreading scandal in high society’s circles. It’s always been easy to play with people’s darkest desires just to sneakily smuggle them into the spotlight. The public will boil, there will be more and more lies spreading around. That part has always been enjoyable for the young Endless, but suddenly Desire’s attention crumbled into dust with the most captivating pair of eyes they’ve ever seen.
And those eyes stared right back into their golden flaming ones with such intensity and adoration that the infamous Endless, having handled their business already decided to stay on Earth a little longer.
 It started off simply, with lust and Desire’s charm - their eldest trick of all. But from the very beginning something felt different than all the other times with all the other ones.
You didn’t even seem to need those tricks, their magic, the hypnotic look in their eyes. Enchanting, but unnecessary. Because the desire was already there.
Then came love.
Nothing can ever be too easy for too long, not in this world. You had dreams, undeveloped potential, desires you were too shy to reach out to.
Desire felt like they were stopping you, holding you back with their endless life and duties. They knew that eventually you’d start asking questions, you’d think that they’re cheating or hiding something from you. And Desire just knew that, cause they've grown to know you, they've grown attached. You were too smart not to notice things.
Just the way you would notice how others stared at them in awe as you walked together. And soon enough you started to recognize the lust and adoration in people’s eyes when they caught Desire’s gaze. Your Desire, your love.
And then came the preachers, the envious who’d spit in your general direction, who’d send rocks flying through your window in the middle of the night, all the threats. Those would call you satan's emissaries, sinners. But is it ever a sin to love?
Desire knew back then that being with you, having you, was a privilege that they were abusing. It was no longer a game, nor was it harmless. Not when you and your life were at stake. Not when your heart was at a knife’s distance.
A day like that had to come, preceded by long nights of fighting and even longer periods of hiding away in their realm, away from you, thinking, seeking solution that wouldn’t require letting you go. Until one day they didn't come back anymore.
“Why are you following me?”
And there you are. The present day you. Close enough to touch. You look healthier, nourished, maybe even a bit younger perhaps. Features smoother somehow, but it suits you. Everything does.
Even your frown when a glint of confusion flashes in your gaze. It’s been so long, so long, and Desire cannot help the soft smile that graces their face. Of course you don’t understand, it doesn’t make sense at all, even to them! It’s impossible and yet…
Their brows twitch in an attempt to explain. But how does one explain so much.
“I-“
So pathetic for someone who belongs to the Endless, but what could they say when they’re so at loss for words. And you’re right there, in front of them, breathtaking just by being you.
Impatience and a dash of anger lingers in your voice when you speak again.
“Who are you?”
A heartbreak.
The amount of fun and intrigue to be had with Desire and Unity's time in the Dreaming... I mean there's so many questions!
Did Lucienne just miss there was a Dream Vortex and an Endless running round the Dreamling? Did Unity or Desire keep them hidden? In an untouched little patch of the Dreaming while the rest crumbled? Or were they in 'The Land' with the remnant of Alianora playing happy families. A place complete outside of Dream/Lucienne's remit. Was the Dreaming so utterly destroyed because Dream was cut off? Or was a lot of that the fact there was a Vortex running rampent? Because Rose seemed to make quite a destructive impact every time she entered. Was Unity and Desire having a child the only thing that stopped reality as we know it from crumbling? Or did Unity's Vortex powers stay latent because the Dreaming was in shut down mode? Is the Vortex's destructive potential only an issue if Dream is there to 'kill' it...Because if so that's some funky ass universal law right there.
Unity was dreaming for a century. Was she aware it was a dream or not? Did time pass normally or not, did life progress just like the real world... Did they age? Did the random dream logic stuff just get dismissed as you do in a dream. And then you wake up and realise that's why there were mythical creatures frolicking round the supermarket. Or was she lucid Dreaming? Was it pretty evident Desire was some kind of supernatural entity early on and they were living in magic land? Did Unity just call Desire 'my man' because she didn't have a word for what they are... You can't blame a turn of the century girl for not knowing correct gender pronouns after all.
Netflix has added an entire new generation due to extending Dreams imprisonment to 2022. We now have Desire and Unity's 'beautiful baby girl' mother of Miranda. I mean, did they accomplish what Hector and Lyta Hall tried to do and have and raise a baby in the Dreaming? Was the baby born in both the Dreaming and reality? Because Unity seems distinctly aware of her on a personal level. Did this daughter spend her days with adopted parents and nights with Desire and Unity? What happens when thier little girl dies in the real world?
Did they get married in this dream life? Is it cosmically legally binding? Was Despair invited?.. I mean, obviously Destiny would know. Did he come? He seems pretty up on formalities. Wait... Did he marry them? Do they have some weird little group pact going on not to mention it because they know how serverly in deep sh*t they are if Death ever finds out. 😆
And how does it end? Desire has settled into this dream life, Has this lovely little, utterly intriguing human, descendants, is merrily playing happy families in big brothers realm. They're possessive of them... If not, dare we use the word attached...Even possibly, 'loves' whether they admit it or not. Then one day, completely out of no where... Unity wakes up. Dream's free. It's over. No warning, it's ripped from them. The moment Dream gets everything back, Desire looses it all. And they can do absolutely nothing about it, unless they're prepared to admit to a whole lot of wrongs and beg forgiveness. Worse, Unity is now back in the real world and her time is officially counting down toward her meeting their sister. You can just imagine how Desire in this emotional situation is going to act...There's so many ways you could read their following actions. How do they go about getting their happy ending when it so heavily relies on Dream?
This is such an unexplored part of Netflix's lore with so much potential!
