Set in the late 1920s, Unity is a young bohemian whose upper crust family has recently disowned her over her artistic aspirations. Not to be discouraged she packed a bag and traveled across the pond to Manhattan. There she finds herself in a bustling burlesque club headlined by an alluring performer known only as Desire, Almost immediately Unity is bewitched by them. Their purring voice, Their golden brown eyes, Their..long, long legs..

But with Desire having sworn off love completely and being forced to escort for the wealthy playwright Eramus Fry in order to secure his sponsorship of the club will Unity ever win their heart? Or are these two star-crossed lovers doomed to a tragic ending?

Oh man. I mean, it’s Desire! So I feel like they would be particularly strong with Physical Touch and Receiving gifts. Right?? Those seem the most connected to their function to me. If they did an Acts of Service, I suspect it would just be in bed and that defaults to Physical Touch. 😆 (or maybe not? 😳 either way…)

So yeah, I totally picture them seducing Unity by having an “uncanny knack” for knowing just what kind of gift she wanted in a particular moment. Maybe being a bit forward with their advances (holding hands in public unchaperoned…that sort of thing). And then doing things in the marital bed that would make Calliope blush. (Because of course Unity would insist they get married: she’s the one to hold Desire to account on all fronts.)

I picture Unity existing in her dreamworld with a bit of a static understanding of etiquette and social relationship norms as they existed when she fell asleep in 1916. Unless Desire was able to help influence her understanding of current social events. Perhaps the remaining dreams and nightmares were already doing that for her before Desire entered in on the scene. (So as much as I picture them dating in the 1920s cabaret scene and all the art deco outfits that would entail, it might not fit? I’m going to make it fit.) It certainly would give a bit more consent to the situation than could otherwise be implied. I love them as a pair, and it really only works if Unity is able to grow up naturally in her dream world.

So yeah, Unity’s love languages might be Quality Time and Acts of Service to fall along the 1916 social norms for relationships. I see her doing things like finding excuses to spend time with Desire and then help them. Utterly domestic fluff once they’re married.

But man, can we just pause a moment to think about how awesome a courtship set amid the 1920s Berlin cabaret scene could be? Maybe I do headcanon Desire influencing Unity’s perception of time and culture to allow her to grow up a bit. I mostly just want the decadence of fashion and music out of this scene. I want them dancing to 1920s jazz and switching off who leads whom. I want glitz and glamour and finger waves and Art Deco embellishments on their clothes and jewelry. I like the idea of Desire being the gender-fluid icon of the time they would be, and Unity being a bit of Desire’s slightly more traditionally feminine arm candy who gets to wear stunning flapper gowns and gorgeous headpieces. Coupe glasses for all of the cute cocktails.

was talking to @lucienne-thee-librarian about desunity and started thinking about a spy au where desire is supposed to honey trap unity but they slowwwwly start to develop genuine feelings and goes ohshitohfuckohno and like. they’re DESIRE. emotional intimacy makes them hiss and spit like a cat exposed to water. but after a lifetime of dodging and ducking, they can’t deny how they feel towards unity.

Pezzotaite: She’s a healer and a stats buffer, she can improve and make any gem better, that’s temporary though, but it’s very useful

Kornerupine: She’s a ring master, responsible to organize gems made for entertainment in order and also use her powers to make spectacles for elites gems

Moonstone: She’s a fusion of a Sea Glass and Angelite, her powers are related to dreams and psychic connections, there’s way more to it but she’s always sleeping

Focusing on Unity Kinkaid, I can't emphasise enough how much of an impact changing Unity's ethnicity has to her character.

Can you imagine how much determination and fortitude the Kinkaid's must have had to make their buissness a success in the early 1900s! To make themselves a foothold in the world predimantly ruled by the white, male middle/upper classes... And stay there! How much prejudice they'd still face despite that success? In the comics, Unity is described as privileged rich girl who had a mundane life before she fell to Sleeping Sickness. But Netflix Unity's early life must have been one of tribulation, despite the families financial security. Having to build a strong character at an early age to stand above the prejudice and exclusion they must have faced from their upper middle class peers. To hold her head high and carry on with positivity regardless. This adds so much to who she is.

And we see this shaped a woman who is fearless. Who is loving and selfless despite everything. And faces life (and death) with positivity and vigour.

This woman is not a victim! She's a benevolent warrior! And whether or not you ship Desunity, or however you view their relationship... Refuse to see Unity as a woman who would just bow to Desire's whims. Believe she was one of the greatest challenges that fickle little Endless ever faced. I like to think that something more came from it. Because Unity deserves happiness, love and peace! And Desire deserves a chance to be better. And if anyone's got it in them make Desire a better personification... It's Unity. But either way. Let's put some respect on her name!
