Going back to think about the Devil Survivor series, and I think that one of the things that it does best is the (sometimes not so) subtle way it talks about responsibility.

In DeSu1, the fake ending of escaping the Lockdown before the last day just gets everyone killed by a Smite. And Yuzu's ending explicitly makes the bad things extend outside the Lockdown and get worse. With her extra day giving you the chance to sort of help patch things up, but letting you screw up again.

In DeSu2, following Daichi without direction gives you a hollow version of the Kingmaker ending. The universe is free from Polaris, but now reality is just a handful of islands and an endless sea with nothing in it. With Record Breaker suggesting that the Triangulum would appear to fill in the spot anyway. And since the fate of reality itself is in your hands, you cannot advance to Record Breaker with any other route but the base game perfect ending (sort of, I know it's a separate playthrough). Which is a combination of the Kingmaker ending (the opposite of the hollow world ending), and Daichi's true route of everyone surviving thanks to your effort and having everyone's bonds be strong enough to unite against the administrator.

Additionally, the "prophets" of each game are my favorites. Both Amane and Saiduq's mindset of "I'll play my role be it with or against you" really compliments the game. Especially in how your goals almost never oppose theirs, but they still believe things have to happen in a certain way.

He felt the rise of embarrassed heat run up his face. The hero eyed him carefully. It felt as if he was trying to get a read on Izuku. Izuku hoped his face wasn't giving away his nervousness.

Unfortunately for him the man noticed immediately, "You don't have a home. Do you?"

Izuku immediately wanted to deny that he was homeless. Technically he did have a home. It just wasn't one the man would approve of.

"I have a home," he tried unsuccessfully if the way the man raised an eyebrow was any indication.

"Really?" He questioned, "Then lead the way."

Izuku froze. He didn't move and neither did Eraserhead. They just stared at each other for several long moments. The urge to reach for his phone was strong. To do so would end poorly for him however. Eraserhead and Tsukauchi had seen his face. They would be able to identify him and using his phone would reveal him as Rabbit.

Then the tension broke and Eraser gave him a knowing look, "Didn't think so. Where were you going to go kid? It's not safe for you to be out on the streets alone."

"I'm fine," he insisted, "Besides I'm not alone I have Alcor."

"Who in fu..." started Eraserhead before another voice this one amused cut in.

"You called, Shining One?"

Perfect fucking timing.

Playing devil survivor 2 and thinking about the concepts and plot points it introduces in the game. Mainly the Akashic Record.

It makes me think about like. The universe’s creation in Pokemashe and makes me want to incorporate the akashic record especially with the multiple timelines.

I might do a full write up about Arceus’s role in the universe, how it was created, and the record sometime soon it’s very interesting to think about worldbuilding wise.

what would be the ryu number for the Anguished One from smt devil survivor 2? (including record breaker rerelease if that helps)

i'm mostly wondering how long it would take to get to joker - or if there's a different path. my first thought would be via jack frost but i figure as a species he comes under the same rule as pokemon species; in desu2 at least you can definitely get multiple of most demons, only a few are unique (and if you have a unique one then they won't show up in fights they normally would) i'm also wondering if you'd class (ignoring species clause for example's sake) jack frost as a demon and jack frost as a persona as the same being? i personally would, but curious as to how you'd go about it - if you don't, it might be a lot more difficult to get into persona territory, but once you get to anything from p3 onwards it's easy from there (thanks q)

As a Deity, I believe Osiris should be a Unique Demon and meet the eligibility criteria.

As for Demons vs. Persona, I'm also slightly inclined to count them as the same being thanks to a greater chance of visual continuity and a mechanical requirement that only one of each Persona ever be present at the same time, but given what a Persona actually is in-universe (discussed in some detail here), it's iffy getting them involved in the first place, which is why if at all possible I prefer to avoid using them in routes.

I just finished Devil Survivor 2!

Both the game and anime. It was so fun!!!!!!! Def prefer the game, but the anime gave Daichi and protag sm chemistry soooooooooo its also pretty good lmfao (but also mad the anime made Daichi incredibly weak... When it game his character arc was about becoming brave, not strong. RAAAAAAAAAH) I forgot there was a whole second arc in record breaker... so ill have to play that soon... Too busy with uni rn tho, so I might not play it any time soon. BTW THIS IS BASICALLY A SCREENSHOT REDRAW... So ofc it's semi traced (I cant draw folds so ofc i semi traced it asajkskj)

I know about her, on account of @loopingpyre shilling the series to me a while ago. The character designer for DRRR also worked on the Devil Survivor games, my favorite MegaTen spinoffs.

Three DRRR characters make a cameo in Devil Survivor 2: Record Breaker (3DS), as DLC "Demons" to summon. It was unfortunately Japan exclusive.

Gunvolt is very fast-paced and frantic, kind of like the upgrade in speed from Mega Man to Mega Man X to Mega Man Zero pushed another step further (it's by the same company that developed Mega Man Zero). Shovel Knight is very old-school style with modern design and polish. I also highly recommend Shovel Knight and Gunvolt, as /u/ErrorEra mentioned.

The Pokemon and Fire Emblem series both have a 2D pixel-style overworld with 3D graphics for the battles, not sure if that's what you're looking for. The Legend of Zelda: A Link Between Worlds has 3D graphics but mimics the style of A Link to the Past very closely, if you enjoyed ALttP I highly recommend getting LBW. With a small SD card, you can fit a lot of really nice, quality digital titles! Hope that helps! There is more, I am sure, but these were just the ones I could think of off the top of my head! I know physical games were preferable, but I highly encourage you to check out some of the eShop releases.
