i could write an entire dissertation on how similar devil's minion are to bella and edward from twilight 😭 daniel would tell armand they NEED to watch these super ridiculous teen romance movies about vampires that his daughters liked back in the day, because he thinks armand will find the vampire lore funny and they can mock it and talk shit together. cut to them sitting on the couch hours later, four movies in, well aware that bella openly loves being stalked by that weirdo, keeps begging to be turned to spend eternity together, how edward feels religious guilt about turning her and tries to erase all physical proof that he ever existed when he dissapears to "keep her safe". armand and daniel keep clearing their throats as the awkward silences grow longer, shifting on the couch and throwing each other quick glances until daniel finally whispers "oh come on! you have to be shitting me!" as they watch edward take bella to a private island for their honeymoon.

Thinking about all the alternate intertextual versions of Daniel’s story, how Lestat swoops him up and gives him ”the choice he never had” at the end of the 1994 movie, how he befriends and sides with Louis at the end of S2 of the AMC show, and how he’s caught up in this fucked up yet fascinating whirlwind romance with Armand in the books.

And the more I think about it, it feels like Louis, Lestat and Armand are romance options in a visual novel, and Daniel’s the protagonist. A visual novel I’d play religiously if it existed.

On the subject of "why did Armand turn Daniel, if not out of spite?" My prediction is summed up perfectly by this quote from the movie Last Life in the Universe:

“The lizard wakes up and finds he’s the last lizard alive. His family and friends are all gone. Those he didn’t like, those who picked on him in school, are also gone. The lizard is all alone. He misses his family and friends. Even his enemies. It’s better being with your enemies than being alone. That’s what he thought. Staring at the sunset, he thinks. 'What is the point in living… If I don’t have anyone to talk to?'"

I do think at this point in the story there is genuine animosity between them (whether or not DM has already happened). But faced with the possibility of being alone - really truly alone - for the first time in 500+ years.... Armand decides that it's better to tie himself to a rival than to have no one at all.

Need someone to write a Devil's Minion Rope (1948) au. Could be a human au, a 1940s au, or just them trying to pull off the perfect murder at Night Island in the 80s. Ofc I'm assuming they don't end up caught at the end because Armand has been successfully murdering people and getting away with it since the 1500s, and even if they did Armand has the mind gift. But maybe they do, who knows.

Either way, I just need the homoeroticism and tension of Rope put into DM.
